Wayna Picchu Stairs of Death

- Me climbing some 600 year old stairs over a cliff on my way up Wanya Picchu, the small mountain overlooking Machu Picchu, Peru. It actually looks safer than it is because the bush below me is growing out of the side of the mountain. Here's a better picture:

I'm not sure why this video is so popular, but if you like this sort of thing, here's a video of my wife and I rock climbing 1000 feet up:
• Video
When he did that little “eughh” in the beginning…I FELT that. 😰😥
He was just yawning 😅
I am totally afraid of heights and my stomach flipped just watching you!
Jesus Christ. This makes me queasy just looking at it in a video. You've got some serious balls, man. And nikeman, that guy must have been seriously lucky to get away with "a few scratches". When I was a freshman in high school, one of my fellow students fell 200 feet off a cliff and died.
Damn... what's the zoom on that camera? You can pretty much see the Sun Gate.
No es peligroso, hay cuerdas pra agarrarse y ayudarse a subir. Fui la semana pasada y hasta mayores de 65 años subian!! En los videos se ve difícil, empinado, pero no es asi, es el efecto de video o las fotos! Animense!!! Es magico, maravilloso y unico. Me agradecerán el consejo!
im not really afraid of heights but fuuuckk thaaaat duuuude
I have a pic of myself on these stairs which was taken on #3 and I about pissed myself. Thumbs up to everyone who's climbed Wayna Picchu! Definitely not a walk in the park.
I just came back from there 3 weeks ago and that part is roped off and closed to the public. I remember it clearly because I wanted to check it out as I believe that is where human sacrifices were performed.
We did make the mistake or at least were unprepared to go a different way back to see the caves and temple of the moon. Had no idea it was a 4 hour climb up and down stairs...we were on the mountain for a total of 6 1/2 hrs and ran out of water. If you go the back way, be sure to bring plenty of water and food even though they tell you not to bring food into the park. Only 20 out of 400 people that day went the long way home and 4 were in our group.
I think it's about 1,000m from there down the cliff to the river below... no way I was going to step out on those steps! You're braver than me.
Brave is not the word i would have chose but to each his own i guess
Breathtaking!!!!!
I was leaning to the right in my chair!!!!🤣👍
I came back from MP last week. I climbed Huayna Picchu and didn't even see those stairs. The way up is very safe. There are lots of ropes to hang on to. You should definitely do it. The view is amazing.
I was at MP 2 months ago and also did the stairs of death. These steps are when you are hiking back down the mountain (close to the top) the steps are off of the trail but visible. Also the 26 mile Inca trail is a workout for darn sure.
Hi, are the stairs steep going up and down? I am not great at this stuff so a bit nervous to do it.
There are a few steps going up that were hard for me ngl. The way down was a lot easier because it's a different route. I guess it depends on how much you suffer from heights. @@rabbitnitasha
@baixinho7 ohhh fair! Thank so much for sharing! glad you got there, might be one I have to think about.
no worries, mate! hope you can do it. The place is stunning. @@rabbitnitasha
That is crazy. Hard enough without a camera in your hand. A base jumpers dream though. Great video!
I remember hiking those great trails before, but didn't have a video camera. Thank you for posting this. It brings back great memories for me and is a super video.
I appreciate the pacing and angles of your videotaping; forgot I was in my own living room for a minute - good job.
I’m more disturbed at how loud that camera zoom in feature is
Those steps are not part of the track u don't need to step on those
The are on the side
They are very interesting to see and u could step in u want to
However u won't go by these steps to get to the top of
Wayna Picchu :)
Thank you for that little bit of information not provided in the video. lol. Seeing those spaced-out steps without a visual bottom was definitely a deal-breaker for me. :)
@@AnthonyWaara they are virtually at the top of the climb, just to your right as you emerge from the cave/tunnel that brings you to the summit.
They don't look that scary when you stand in front of them but when you step up onto the first one, that changes...
Finished the hike in the summer, really not a big deal.
What an awesome view
Saw a guy fall off of these steps on Sunday. He fell 275 feet and only had a few scratches. I decided that I was going to pass climbing them after I saw him fall.
That fall looks much further?
Is that for real? 275 feet and he survived?!
Probably slid down most of it.
nikeman689 you mind that the Incas calculate a fall damage when they built this?
I climbed this dude. I wanted to cry and I pretty much crapped my pants.
He doesn't seem that tall. Why were you climbing him in the first place, though?
My Son and his Girlfriend are planning a trip next August and they want to do this. I am terrified for them, is it really as dangerous as it looks?
Betty Jo Glaros Its quite dangerous, but there are railways and stuff and no one has ever died there fortunately :)
Did they do it
wow thats amazing, im glad you filmed it as ill never go there, it looks a lethal drop.
Looks absolutely amazing! Great video. Don't know if I could handle those stairs though
:14 that little squirm got Mr laughing immediately
that is crazy!!!! i was there this year but i did not see those steps. nice!!! i love peru and machu pichu was a great experience
That is really good photography
nice video camera - what kind is it? just got back from Machu Picchu, but I think we (luckily) missed these stairs of death on Wanya Picchu.
If you think this was hard ask the locals about climbing Putu Cusi. That is really dangerous :)
Susan Lindwall no way worst that this?
Hi. Nice video!! Quick question, is this an alternate route on the climb up or is it part of the actual climb?? Thanks
When I went to the Huayna Picchu's entrance, I couldn't pass through because I needed a reservation, but you could only have one if you reserved one on a 3-4 months span before actually going there (Before, you could go free, as my dads told me).
But after watching this, I'm glad I never made that reservation.
good view there, there is an ancient trail that seems to lead to other sites too cut into the mountains.
Jak dla mnie coś wspaniałego!
I felt like I was falling out of my chair the whole time I watched this!
Holy! They are above the clouds!
i wonder how could you get back? so safty?but very beutiful scarely🌟thank you for your force
Dear Friend!
I would like to make a compilation of Top-5 World’s most dangerous paths and kindly ask you to allow use a fragment of your video in this compilation.
Surely, I will place the original link of your video in description of the compilation.
Thank you in advance.
Holy crap! Do you have to climb those stairs to get to the top or are there alternate stairs?
Thanks for post.
So scary route!!!
Wonderful vieus of the top
Far out mate! I was trying to decide if I should include Huayna Picchu in my ticket or not...and this video answered my question almost straight away....I wonder how many people die doing that....it doesn't take much really...
Anyways, I'm not very fit and heights like those make my knees shake just to watch, would you say it's best I keep away from it?
Imagine the worksrs who built it ?
What if you step on the stones but they crack and break off, it's is haunting to even imagine it.
just did these steps... good stuff
It’s only 3 steps cmon 😂 I seriously was expecting a staircase! Yep I’ll be happy to do that. Great views
That's a freakin sweet hike.
Imagine experiencing an earth quack while climbing
In an earth quack, just duck
Are these the steps just after going through the tunnel? And is climbing these steps "optional" or a necessary part of proceeding with the hike?
No flipping chance! Going in 2 months.
If that 3rd Rock step breaks you’ll be gone just like that
screw that.... my hands are sweaty just watching
FragranceView jajajaja
FragranceView laughing in English hahahahaha
how long did u have to hike to get to that point?
LOL I thought the camera was sideways the first several second of the video. Now my plans are sweating
We I was there in 2015 that little part was closed
Great filming 👌
Yeah, this is the real stair of death... most people who claimed to have climb the stair of death doesnt even show this stairs
These stone steps are not part of the "Stairs of Death" that most tourists traverse.
Hey there! We wondered if we could have permission to post this onto our page please? All credit and links would be given :)
Balls of steel!
You fail to show the rope that marks these stairs off limits clearly asking people not to disturb said 600 year old stairs. This is why we can't have nice things...
There was no rope barrier there in 2009
wow that is amazing, so beautiful
I really want to go there
Oh hell no.
>optical zoom
> I was there Gandalf. I was there three thousand years ago…
hats of to you m8 i would be on the verge of a heart attack
Dale pues! Que chevere 😎 You are super brave dude ✊🅿️‼️
Thanks for the vertigo 👀
As of 2017, Stairs of Death are closed to tourists.
Wow, incredible.
Noooo way!!! I´m going to next month can´t decide about steping into that or keeping safe down!!! F*** Please tell if that´s the most dangerous steps to do or exist even most of ????? Thanks
Too brave !
Is there an alternate way to get to the top without climbing these steps?? It looks pretty freaky.
One bad step = gg
The adrenaline you'd get with every step.

Sure
Why is that camera so loud? It’s like Blade Runner.
Fuck. That.
good job though, I wouldn't have the stomach for that!
It looks extremely dangerous but people are usually really really cautious and it probably doesn't happen.
The same architect probably built every building in star wars.
Amazing
I wounder what camera that is with the egg beater zoom?
Panasonic DMC-ZS3
You don't have to climb those steps!
Angela Hey nope if you take a chopper
Nice video, Thanks !!!
Anxiety attack commences!!
haha its hard to believe your looking at what your seeing isnt it. when did you go?
Not without a safety harness.
Awesome place to take a piss.
This is fun
i shit my pants even watching that
Is this the only way? Or you can go on the path? Will go there in OCT. This is really scary
It was not off limits in 2009
+bmdhacks
lol, newb.
I physically cant watch that.
отчаянно и....здорово!
small mountain???
Dude, could you not see that there is an abandoned city or some shit down there?
is Wayna Pichu :)
Would make a boss Base jump that
*God damn.*
Cool!
Palm sweat
WHAT THE FUCK . . !!
Never.
As someone with a crippling fear of heights: HELL TO THE FUCKING NO
dommage filmé trop vite
But is it really necessary to stand on the edge 🤢
