They were 19 years old when they recorded this and Neil wasn't with the band yet. The original drummer John Rutsey was replaced due to health issues (diabetes) as they were scared he wouldn't survive the lifestyle as a touring member of the band. A Cleveland DJ, Donna Halper started playing this a lot and the response was so positive from the fans in Cleveland it led to them getting a record deal in the United States and they were on their way.
I like how in that doc the radio station lady in Cleveland said that when they put this song on, it just immediately resonated with everyone. She said, "Everybody felt like that! ...I bet they did!
Awesome reaction! I love seeing people fall in love with my favourite band! However, this was not Neil on drums. This song is from their debut album and John Rutsey was the original drummer. Neil replaced him for health reasons just before they started their first tour in the States.
I just can't help but say that watching a gorgeous woman rock and roll with great music because she knows and loves what she's listening to, is beautiful!
Fantastic song, fun reaction video. They've been doing this to me for so long, you'd think I'd be numb to it by now, but I'm not. I just wish I could get Alex and Geddy's attention and write them a new version called Retired Man, to keep it relevant to my life. 😇☺
Tasha what a great reaction. This band never disappoints. Rush is my favorite band. You have a huge catalog to choose from. Looking forward to the next one.
Rush's first album, and it is much like their early touring days when they did Led Zeppelin covers. This is also pre-Neal Peart Rush. Very different and hard rocking sound! John Rutsey was the drummer on this song and the entire first album. If you think this song was great, react to the entire first side of 2112. It is an epic masterpiece with a deep story and lyrics. IMHO it is Rush's best!
Yes! RUSH in their hard rocking infancy, announcing to the world, here we are and this is just the beginning. This was just as crushing live. For another banger from their early albums, try Anthem from their 2nd album, another mind blowing track from one of the best bands of that, or any other era. Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎹🎶
They have so many good songs that it's hard to choose. They were a band for over 40 years so the easiest way would be to choose a favorite song by the decade. I seen them live in 08. My favorite band of all time

You are correct that it’s always important to pay attention to the lyrics in a RUSH song, EXCEPT in this song it’s not quite as important. That’s because (drummer) Neil Peart, who wrote the lyrics for nearly all their songs, did not join the band until the next album, Fly By Night. On this album John Rutsey was the drummer. So, the deeper more meaningful lyrics don’t come in to play until the next album.
This was from Rush's first album from 1974. Drummer Neil Peart wasn't in the band until the next album who wrote all the lyrics from then on mostly. Rush never returned to this straight ahead early metal sound and went prog rock forever afterwards
Thank God they did move in from this simplistic/straight ahead rock considering their talents. First album is rocking and gave them their start, but when Mr. Peart came along, they became a Hall Of Fame band.
@@carlgibbons5777 yeah to me the Fly By Night and 2112 albums are the essential ones. Caress Of Steel has it's musical moments but was too far in left field overall. If this OG Rush sounds does it for you, check out Need Some Love, also from this album, Anthem, from Fly By Night, and Lessons, from 2112. Those first few albums are definitely Alex driven (until 2112 when he honestly was eclipsed by Neil)
@@magnuswettermark8293 RIP to both indeed, but coming from a drummer perspective, there is no comparison. John played simple beats/fills and was a timekeeper. Kudos to John for giving Rush their start though.
@@magnuswettermark8293 It's easy to tell the difference too. Don't know how so many non-drummers can think this is Neil Peart.
