The album is Glover talking to his newborn son; telling him stories and giving him fatherly advice about the world and love in particular. Pretty cool.

Alec Perez Agreed. He's my favorite reviewer. He is able to do a good job of describing the feeling each song gives him. He knows what makes a song good imo. Respect him as a music listener and critique-er
You know in most of the songs, it is him singing, he just used a voice changer-ish autotune lol. Nice reaction though. Tired of seeing all these people on Twitter and other sites hating and saying the album is trash, just because they either don't know good music, or because they only like Gambino for rapping. He's an artist, but he's a person. He'll do what he wants to do, if you miss "old gambino" listen to "old gambino" it's still on the net. It's funny all the people under here that were trying to tell me I can't call this "good music" cause it's opinion based, but after people actually fully listened to the album and digested it for what it is, everyone's come to realize its a modern day classic

Dunno if you've ever listened to Funkadelic, but I can see Donald took a lot of influence from their music for this project (mixed w/ some modern elements). Even the album cover reminds me of their '71 album Maggot Brain. ..Some heavy Eddie Hazel vibes on this one.
Is anyone that astounded by the fact this is Childish?!! There are great musicians, but to sing and have your voice be this good??? I thought he was great already. Shawn Cee, you probably won't respond but I think this album has a very euphorically healing and creative work of music. I listened to this at like 2am, and I felt energized and relieved. Not in a way that is about motivation heavy way but the "feeling". Feeling of fear, love, and spirit. And the passion carries throughout the time of it. And finishing it, I stayed up letting the first impression soak in. And I just had so much of a new feeling, I stayed up to the album and heard Stand Tall while watching the city sunrise. Went out and to work early. I had so much drive and everything was reminding of the tracks on it from people to the radio at work. There is something special about this album. I can't wait to feel more this and understand it more deeply. I just wanted to know if you had the same impression after your first.
The music is so largely styled after all these old school nostalgic feels and I think it's because it's because the concept is about the people who came before us and the messages they want to impart to us. This Album is about our parents, how they met, how they loved each other, how they made us that things they did and tried to teach us to make our lives better... so when you listen to this album, I try to remember my parents and smile when I can.

@@treygarner7100 I love how ppl miss that what Shawn also said was that the album needs *time*. It's not about how amazing OP's music taste or listening ability is. It's about digesting it and sitting with it, if you're used to Gambino's older stuff

My theory for the concept of the album is that he's talking to a child or his son maybe. And he's telling him about life for example how he met his mom, warning him about life's issues and how he wants to be. Hence the tracks like zombies, boogieman, have some love etc. Just a theory
I genuinely will say this is my favourite Gambino album with Camp behind. I've only listened to Because The Internet a few times and it hasn't grown on me as much
70s funk heads could be able to digest this album. The album is hugely influenced by Funkadelic, with a bit of Sly, yet of course, with a modern touch. Also, the front cover bears a resembles to Funkadelic's 'Maggot Brain'.

i love bino and this album because it shows a different side of him that many people failed to see which might be the reason why they were dissatisfied, not because the album was bad but because they didnt understand what he was really getting at
i heard childish gambino actually dedicated this album to his new born son, which makes sense when you re-listen to it , "awaken my love" = welcome to the world, zombies = this how people are. me and your mama = your description of the moment they met and how his son was born and also . baby boy the title itself being a reference to his new born son, when you re-listen to it knowing its for his son the album does become a little more meaningful and enjoyable, my opinion Gambino is the most underrated artist in the game he never gives you the same material, mostly because he could care less about #1's he's more free to take risks unlike one of my other favorite artists ,Drake who watered down his music so damn much for it to be trendy.
Omg. You are too cute. I felt the exact same way as far as this being a moody album. It makes you feel, it's so raw. I'm amazed. I thought this was going to be yet another shitty reaction youtuber but you had good opinions and insights. really nice job!
I personally loved this album. it reminded me of Funkadelic, Prince, and "Me And Your Momma" reminded me of "I Want You" by The Beatles. Which is a good thing in my opinion! I have so much respect for Gambino for trying new stuff. and he did it really well. Also gotta love California that shits gonna be playin nonstop on my summerbreak!!!
