Vultures 1 is a good album. It’s more focused than Donda, so atleast it has that advantage, but bob was even hung up on lyrics with this album so yeah Vultures reaction is cooked
@@teenxtcydonda was named after his mother, not dedicated to her at all.Even dababy had to clear that up in an interview as he worked with Kanye on this album
@@jynx464 im not saying youre wrong i just dont know how someone going into the album called donda with tracks that include her name in the title wouldnt come to the conclusion the album is mainly about her
@@teenxtcyIt's clear that this was a tribute to his mother, 808s and Heartbreak was the album for his mother's passing. The notion that this was going to be primarily focused on Donda could be immediately cleared when playing the first track, and seeing his album rollouts. It was his tribute to his mother's influence on his life and his ascension to a better path to a christian life.
hes gonna absolutely hate all of vultures 2 lol. depending on how he feels about ai i feel like he will hate or like sky city and 530. fried he’ll either hate or not mind. i feel like the only songs that he is going to like from the album are river and my soul
in the second half of the album he’s almost entirely talking about the album’s lack of stylistic cohesion and not really paying attention to the tracks themselves! there are some amazing tracks that were glanced over because they didn’t fit his preconceived notions about what this album *should* sound like.
The theme of Donda is loss. The loss of his family, friends, kids and everything else around Ye at the time. A lot of the features also talk about their own personal experiences of loss with Durk on Jonah and Andre on LOTP for example. This is also further proven with the tributes to Kobe, Pop Smoke and DMX The outro of Jesus Lord is talking about the loss of time that he (Larry Hoover Jr) and his kids went through with his father being in prison. Ye on Never Abandon Your Family also talks about the loss/lack of presence from his father during his youth and him not wanting that for his own children. The pitch black album cover further emphasises loss and mourning. And to tie it all up. Donda was Ye’s biggest loss and his biggest dedication by naming the album after her. It’s clear that you really didn’t manage to have the open mind that you ”intended” to have for Ye. Your assumption of the album pre listen really influenced your experience and you went off about the confusion repeatedly instead of trying to put the pieces together that Ye intended. The fact that you say the album doesn’t feel like Ye is ironic since Donda has everything you love about TLOP. It’s the most Ye album.
@@AngelRivera-de1lq It's bloated, unfocused and unfinished. It was the start of Kanye's current run of unfocused and unfinished projects. The production is stale and uninspired and clearly suffers from having too many cooks in the kitchen, like much of his work after the College trilogy and 808's. But to the worst extent of his solo catalogue. It takes left over demos like 'hurricane' and transforms them into souless generic husks of the original. It has some of the most poorly written lyrics and worst performances of his discography (before he somehow outdid himself on vultures). Many of the songs are heavily carried by the features but even then there is no kid Cudi on gorgeous or Kendrick Lamar on no more parties level features on this. The only bright side of this album is Kanye's much improved singing performances. The only truly exceptional tracks on this project are pure souls and life of the party. The best part of this album was the rollout. The actual music itself falls very short.
@@Jdjd-tk9dl honestly very agreed, as an experience Donda was the weakest on release, although i would say that the "too many cooks in the kitchen" got pretty much solved on Yeezus and no other album after 808s. people give shit to f*ntano for giving MBDTF a 6/10 but i agree with that rating and his criticisms, although i disagree on many of his other takes (Yeezus and Graduation are 10/10 albums to me). people say the production on Donda is generational, most of it is basic stripped down Trap beats. id also add Come to Life as the exceptional track from Donda though.
Knowing Bob’s background in having a love for ambient music, I am very shocked at how he called tracks on here “barely songs”. I’m not even a massive fan of Kanye anymore but the production is amazing
Felt like there was an expectation going in and when it wasn’t met he was completely taken out of the experience. Interested in the additional thoughts though
and considering he says TLOP is his favorite Ye album, he strangely had a big problem with Donda not being "focused" in comparison. Idk who would describe TLOP as focused lmfao
This album is supposed to have this minimal ominous sound that keeps ascending with each track till it reaches come to life / no child left behind, it was more apparent during the listening parties and with the themes that Kanye was looking to pull off a spectacle in honour of his mother however the tracklist was indeed bloated
Look I’m not a Kanye stan nor am I a huge fan of this album but I think you weren’t fully open minded here. I think you had an expectation and as soon as it wasn’t met you started focusing on certain things and kinda disregarded some great songs because of it. Again not a huge fan of this album but I do think you went overboard. Excited for the additional thoughts.
Bob I don’t know if your going to see this but what makes this album so great to me is the atmosphere and the production it sounds like you’re in empty cathedral a dark void just lost with Kanye while he struggles with trying to grasp himself before he looses himself again
you hit the nail on the head. and when you see the stadium live streams where he plays it you really get that vibe especially. its not a cohesive album. its a diary of thoughts and kanye trying to find himself as he struggles with everything. the album cover is black. its not cohesive really at all.
24 is obviously a tribute to Kobe, but it’s also pretty clearly meant to be a song about lost ones in general. It could apply to anyone. Kanye saying “never the right time to go” could very easily apply to Donda and Koby. Honestly I think you got pretty hung up on your conception of how this album should be and that minimized your scope of this album. He’s not directly invoking Donda often, but he relates other’s situation to Donda ,her teaching, and passing. This album has issues and is unfocused at points but I think you overblew it a bit.
Yeah you psyched yourself out with thinking it would be some fully Donda themed project imo. After TLOP, I see a lot of Kanye’s albums as sort of compilations of whatever specific era he’s in. Opposed to a tight knit cohesive body of work.
Man, its def an album that grows on you as you go. Sometimes you overthink structure of albums, this one has an order that sometimes seems odd, but I think the focus on this album is the mix that he had in his life and the sounds. Individually.
@@TeeepKick this was peak for the rollout at the time. as I fully experienced Vultures 1, so I'll always have that one in a different optic. jesus is king and donda has a longer life, I trully believe that.
yeah, i think donda was a moment in time where you had to just follow it’s rollout and it’s immediate release to really connect to it. i understand why it would be weird to go into the album years later not understanding how iconic it was
Kanye fans are in a bubble. This album had very mixed reception on release. Yes, it was very hyped, yes it was relevant when it dropped, but no not everyone loved it. Deal with it. Lots of people were disappointed, that's not even close to a hot take.
Bob, i apologize for how long this comment is going to be, but i think the length is necessary. It may sound like cope for the issues you mentioned, but i promise its more than that. There's no way for me to explain the feeling you must have currently or have had previously that is required for this album to fully click. The only way I could describe it is a spiritual readyness. I'm not a religious person, but that's what I would describe this album's feel as. It works in mysterious ways. With other albums like 808s and heartbreak, i wouldnt necessarily say theres a specific thing you have to feel or know in your heart for it to hit you the way it's intended to. Same thing with something like Blonde; both of those albums may be enhanced by one being in a specific point in their life, but it's not required to understand the album. That's not how Donda works. The biggest reason that a lot of people arent big on this album is because they haven't listened to it at the right time. I have no way to explain what the right time is. I don't think you'll ever know. But it's there, and that's when this album will hit you. I find it incredibly fitting, for this reason, that the album cover is nothing, because what is a spiritual experience if it cannot be defined personally? It's nothing, it has no real inherit meaning. Its only through the fact that they come to people at the right time that we understand what they are and what they can do. Just like this blank black square, completely open to be defined, and it is defined by your experience when you hear this at that right time. Donda is not one of my favorite albums, not even something i would say is in the top 50% of what I've heard, but the feeling i got when it finally clicked was like no other. It's like a spiritual awakening of its own. I feel like Kanye channelled that energy of that undefined spiritual experience and put it into music. If you hear it before or after your being is ready, it won't work, just like a spiritual breakthrough. Again I know all of this sounds like major cope, but it's more me explaining what I believe is the intended purpose of this body of work. It's like a wise traveler on some road that everyone walks, and not everyone who listens to what they have to say is going to understand it, because that part of the road may not be the right part of their personal journey. But when the time is right, if it ever is for you personally, I promise it will click.
The thing about the "he's trying to convince himself of this" in pure souls is so funny because have you considered that instead of convincing himself of that, that he is trying to become that? He is trying to find God in his life by reassuring himself that he is on the right path? Finding God is not a destination you get to, it's a leap of faith that requires a lot of battle against the self and reminding of the self to stay on the right path. He repeats it so much because he is tested (and fails) in his life a lot and the fact he repeat it so much is actually admirable is that after all of his tribulations he is still clinging to God to help him get on the right path. Matter of fact, him repeating this message and coming to it again and again is a way bigger sign to me of someone who is spiritually alive and transparent with his flawed journey (Wich is very real) instead of someone who states that he found God like it's a final destination and something he achieved. You don't have to like Kanye, but he is saying the truth when he is says that he says what people think in their head, and I'm afraid some people are afraid to accept actual true raw unfiltered emotions because it reminds them of their own mess.
I think you’ll like this album more and more over time. When this first dropped I wasn’t into a lot of the songs. About 3 years later I love every song except like 2 lol. If not it’s ok everyone doesn’t have to like what I like.
I'm always going to remember my experience with this album. Came out during a really weird time in my life and a weird time in general (middle of COVID). It may not be objectively better than most of Kanye's other work, but it's definitely in my top 5 Kanye albums. I could go back and listen to almost any of these songs.
@ yh I think I was just wanting more of kids see ghosts/ye era type Kanye and got something different. Now I appreciate the fact that every era of Kanye has its own sound so whatever the mood is you can choose a diff album to listen to.
maybe wait even abit longer before more ye, I agree with your points but you came off abit predisposed in this one to me bob. I dont blame you i just think its more fun to watch you when you seem excited to be listening to the artist
Man this reaction was hard to watch as someone who remembers donda as one of Kanye’s greatest works. I get basically all of the points you made but I can’t agree with 95% of it. Come to life, Jesus Lord, Life of the party, Moon, 24, Pure Souls etc are all beautiful and are some of the greatest highlights on any Kanye album ever. And even the bangers like Off the grid and Heaven and hell are insane and shows where Kanye was in the process of making the album. Donda is an album about loss, it doesn’t matter what it is. He touches subjects about his mother, his wife and more. And the way it feels empty only makes it better with the feeling of Kanye being so lost.
@@Z33Nwa for me the album has helped me so much in my way to find myself. So for me this album is possibly the most important album Kanye has made for me except for maybe TLOP
@@nonlmao I mean yeah TLOP is better but if you knew anything about the rollouts for TLOP and Donda it's easy to see how similar they were. I think the chaos and variety is both of those albums' strengths. Also calling the production mediocre should be a sin.
@@Russum1 just like the white album is too messy. Just like Mr. Morale is too messy. Just cause it’s not as focused doesn’t mean it bad. He should relisten. It’s a spiritual masterpiece with some bloat in it.
The reason Fivio Foreign's verse on "Off the Grid" was so long is that, initially, he sent Kanye an 8 bar verse. However, Kanye kept asking for more, and Fivio kept adding to it. That’s why it sounds like he’s about to end the verse at certain moments. Fivio told this on an interview.
It really feels like you didn’t understand what the point and message of this album especially with how you constantly mention how it’s an album about his mom or dedicated to her, It’s neither the album is named after her and the point of this 10th studio album was tackling his entire life and having a massive album to let it all out. I don’t blame you for this reaction though because I felt very similarly on my first listen in 2021, but 3 years later I hold this in high regard and consider it a 9/10 record. There’s bumps, but overall it’s amazing. All I can say is try viewing it as a whole.
The album is about the collapse of everything he had been building up since 808s, that's what the haunting, hollowed tone is. That's the eeriness you feel throughout the record. Like you said he was SO close to getting away from everything, living in the countryside. It all had an inconclusive, depressing ending. I love this album and I think with your personal relationship with Kanye's music, you should listen to it again-- or skim it again, with that lens. It's a 2 hour long Pinocchio's Story.
@@SteepWriterwell that’s your opinion but the production def is meant to serve that hollow feeling. The whole album feels like a dark empty cathedral to me and creates a really cool overall feeling.
@@chinesechupacabra9407 Or it is unfinished like so many of his previous LPs, having to go back and release future versions that are listenable. I honestly just think he is too mentally ill and/or lazy to finish a project nowadays.
@@rsacozy Probably not in the eyes on Kanye, but at least in his past he had the self awareness to revise clearly undercooked ideas. I genuinely think he just got lazier as a songwriter overall.
I disagree with your view on the album's concept. It is very well defined: Kanye's mental health, his faith, a message of overcoming in the face of the pandemic, and also a tribute to his mother. The album is not just about his mother, the name Donda was also chosen later, as there were other names considered beforehand. That said, Merry Christmas!!!
Brother in the time span of this vid coming out and you posting this comment you could not even be done with the closing thoughts unless you skipped like 3 minutes of them
If your Kanye journey wasn’t so well-documented, I’d honestly think this was your first time ever listening to one of his albums. It’s really strange. Maybe you’re not as open-minded as you think, but I’m not sure. Your review feels pretty weak overall-no disrespect intended, of course. Also, the fact that you think this is set during the Nazi 'era' unintentionally gives off a sense of unfairness. How is the album's concept not defined? I’m genuinely baffled by that.
It really feels like a complete reset. idk why he'd view this album in a different light than any other Ye album. It feels like he's not trying to understand the themes and feeling being expressed but rather trying to find what he thinks should be there and arguing with what is rather than trying to understand and analyze
This is Kanyes most impressive album in my opinion. Yes, the lows (3-4 tracks) are pretty low but the highs are comparable to his best albums. Songs like 24, Come to Life, No Child Left Behind, Believe What I Say, Life Of The Party, Jesus Lord, Pure Souls, New Again, Moon are absolutely otherworldly and have never been seen in hiphop before. And delivering this album that late in his career is also special. These songs are lifechanging for a lot of people including me. I advise you to revisit this album in a few months or so, your opinion may change. I feel like you were not in the right space for this album.
I do have to push against the whole "disjointed" criticism you have for this album when you could say the same for Life of Pablo yet that's your favourite kanye album. I'm interested in knowing what you like about Pablo despite it being so messy that doesn't apply to Donda.
52:12 LMAO the slight pause after the music ends and simply saying "I don't like Baby Keem" has me crying. I totally get why people don't like him but I actually enjoy his stuff. I do agree that the Praise God verse inda stinks though.
@@pdxjets3104nah I think it can easily be my favorite , I just don’t like picking a single one as my favorite since all his projects are very different and unique
2:32:35 I feel like it isn't fair to give a song like Orlando by XXXTENTACION all the credit in the world when you reacted to it, and then call No Child Left Behind "barely a song" when both of those songs are hitting the same mark of minimalism in production.
Also this album was really about the rollout, it spanned multiple months, had huge listening parties and was a major spectacle. It was a massive event the summer of 2021. plus "clb vs donda"
It's named after his mother, not dedicated! I would recommend further listens, checking out Prof. Skye's vids on Donda, watching listening parties. That was a performance art in itself. This was about isolation, loss, liberation, remembrance of the loved ones and to end it all. Pain! Again, NAMED after his mother. Not DEDICATED!
@@revowowI’m going to compare Donda to TLOP because they are more similar than people like to admit. Both albums blur the lines between gospel, rap, and experimental sounds. They use features, abrupt tonal shifts, and larger than life production to mirror Kanye’s thought process. On Donda, Kanye isn’t solely mourning his mother. Instead, he’s using her legacy as a lens to explore his own aspirations, fears, and shortcomings. Both albums feel more rough around the edges rather than polished, neatly packaged works of art.
He didn’t talk about his mom in 808s either what are you saying??? Like this is the reason people hate Kanye fans because they are so rude and pretentious about everything, maybe he just didn’t click with album at first it’s not that deep
This reaction was kinda sad to see cause Donda is probably one of my favourite Ye albums ever especially considering the rollout and I think yes it's not as structured as MBDTF but I feel like it's closer to TLOP in terms of its maniac vibes. I feel like Donda does grow with time and it's a album that only Kanye could make.
The first track Donda Chant i read somewhere that it is an emulation of Dondas final heart beats on the monitor somewhere. I feel like people didn’t understand that but that’s what it represents
"Read somehwere", yeah you were on twitter bro. Everyone on twitter spread this theory. Lol tryna act like its some hidden knowledge when posts explaining this got hundreds of thousands of likes....
I personally really enjoyed so many songs on this album, but your reaction to it was completely understandable and valid. It is all over the place, and yes, I also agree Kanye is lying to himself about being free and having God in his life. This album represents a breakup and trying to mask your emotions with friends and "God," but deep down, you're a mess and don't know how to handle it all. So he just locked himself in a stadium and made this.
@janno7214 Idk, i have loved all of this reactions to all kinds of music, he actually delves into them and talks and makes points and other stuff. Much better than anyone else i can find on youtube who just smile and say good or bad.
@janno7214 not really. Just cause he listened to great artist last week, doesnt change the fact that donda is mid. it just highlighted the flaws on this album
Damn this reaction was pretty disappointing. Should have sat with something else this week…I dunno why you were so convinced it was about his mom. Multiple themes going through this album.

You should watch the first two album listening parties on UA-cam, I think it will help you understand and enjoy the album more, but they are also some of the most incredible pieces of performance art you’ll ever see. Professor Skye called these two of the greatest and most important moments in performance art history. Very powerful, gripping and emotional pieces.
The comments section is a perfect exemple of the world we live in. people keep asking for a thing, and if that person don't like that thing, a legion of people come to tell how you don't understand the message and bla bla bla. Hope bob don't give to much attention to the comments for this one, because you CAN not like something that a lot of people like. And to be honest, probably most people don't like Donda than people do. hahahah
Man - feels like a disconnect is there, maybe not being there with the rollout/release? But there’s definitely more to it than you’re pulling out. Fantano even gave the album a 7 enjoying the tracks. Hopefully some relistens or shortening the album into a playlist helps. Appreciate you sticking through and listening while sick!
The first listen of Donda is like that, a sort of confusion, but as time passed and you revisit the album you're come to realize how deeply touch the human soul. For me, now is top 3 Kanye's album
Opinion on music is subjective but if a large majority of people say they enjoyed Donda, I believe it is quite worthy to believe it has value to people. You are in the minority, Sir.
@Jarjar2270 Again his opinion and the majority of people liked it, you don't like it? its your opinion but don't cry if people like something you don't
One thing about the donda album sounding slapped together is how donda actually was more happy and upbeat sounding compared to the more deeper church organ sound. Like alot of unreleased stuff Kanye himself shown off had much happier sounding songs, like hurricane used to be more bubbly, 24 hours had more of an afro style beat, if you wanna you can find these unreleased donda songs that had a more flushed out sound
Bob calls TLOP one of his favorite Kanye records and describes it as "very focused". How is it any more focused than Donda? He says Ye is one of his least favorites and to me that is the most "focused" Kanye's been in years. Ye had a consistent message throughout and kept the same style through each track. Donda and TLOP both feature wildly different styles and messages. I don't think Bob came into this as open minded as he claimed he would be.
while it's not classic, his expectations for what it should sound like can ruin an album experience, while not a great album you should always go into an album with an open mind instead of placing judgment before it begins.
I feel you Bob. This album has aged like milk for me. The biggest problem with this album is that it really doesn't feel like a Kanye album. I know he likes to work with other people on projects, but this time it went too far. Most of the project is written by other people, most of the project is produced by other people and there are so many features. It honestly feels like Ye didn't write a single bar (even with any help) or make any of the beats. So whats the point of a Kanye album if it doesn't sound like it was made by him.
first time commenting, I disagree very much with your opinion bob :/ i will definetly wait for additional thoughts. this album is very long but it makes sense since he brings a lot of different thoughts and different feelings on the table. donda is not his best work, but its up there for me. Life of the party, 24, come to life and jesus lord all hit very hard if you lost someone you shouldnt have lost in the first place
FINALLY!!! I think a huge part of this albums reception was the rollout. It was extremely hyped up and he had multiple visual LIVE listening concerts leading up to the release and we heard the development of it as it went along. Another thing is the backstory with a lot of the songs, with most of them being taken from Yahndi. I can't imagine the reception being as positive after missing all of that during release. I admit I hardly listen to this album anymore but at the time I couldn't stop playing it at the gym lol
??? there was 1 song (Hurricane) on this album that was ripped from Yandhi and maybe one more you could kind of argue (Life of the Party) i missed all of the donda rollout and i still think the album's great
This album may not be the most consistent, but Come To Life will forever be my favourite song of all time. The emotions it showcases through Kanye’s flawed but amazing singing, diverse and intricate instrumental, song depth and dimensions and gospel samples make it a once and a lifetime experience. Words can’t describe what the song feels like for me.
@@Vader_vgc He said they put it out without jail pt2 on it. Either it was because of dababys label not clearing his verse in time or the controversy of him and Manson being on it. That was what he was complaining about, not that they put it out at all because all the tracks were finished.
@ “Universal put my album out without my approval and they blocked Jail 2 from being on the album” he says they dropped without permission and also blocked jail 2
@ he also said da baby’s manager blocked the release. What he meant was is that he wanted jail pt2 on it but they told him the manager wouldn’t clear it. The manager then came out saying the wasn’t contacted so the label lied to him hence the without permission part. Pusha t, consequence etc were all posting on the day prior to the release teasing the album. If you really think that it got put out early and is still unfinished to this day with only one poorly worded ig post from Kanye to back that up, I don’t know what to say to you.
This album was basically the album she wanted Kanye to make it took 10 years to make and he never cursed once and brought out the best of every artist apart of this now that’s a tribute . 🙏🏾🔥
I understand what you mean by Kanye isn’t a great rapper or lyricist. He’d acknowledge that himself tbh. On College Dropout and Late Registration he had traditional rap verses and flows, since then he’s moved beyond that. So even though he’s not a great technical rapper, he’s definitely one of the best overall artists hip hop has ever seen. Maybe the best.
You talk about being open minded but it felt like you latched onto hating this album wherever you could especially with that annotation about kanye listening to feedback on the album. The annotation clearly stated it was a fan THEORY not confirmed. And the extent to which he listened to fan feedback did not change the message of the album or even really verses it was more the mixing of songs and slight aspects of the production. You can critique that but this album would’ve still come out very similar regardless of fan feedback.
I'm sorry to say Bob but this really doesn’t feel like a legitimate open minded reaction as you normally do. For some reason you managed to give JIK a fair shake but it seems you allowed something to cloud your judgment here. This felt more like an argument or debunk rather than a reaction. idk why you'd view this album in a different light than any other Ye album. It feels like you're not trying to understand the themes and feelings being expressed but rather trying to find what you think should be there and arguing with what is rather than trying to understand and analyze it. This was just really uncharacteristically close-minded of you. You allowd yourself to be boxed into a singular false perception of the album and that dictated the whole reaction. This caused problems all throughout the reaction. Many highlights of the album were quickly glossed over because they didn't fit your made-up theme. You were looking for your perception of the album to be confirmed rather than trying to put the puzzle pieces together like you usually do and that is always my favorite part of your reactions and what makes you stand out as one of the best. The fact that this was missing here is severely disappointing. This was just overall a huge shame to see
This was albuam of the year for me when it came out, and tbh still hits hard. It's too long, but it has a good 14 tracs that are among the best pieces of music in the 2020s so far.
Bob u hit it on the head perfectly. When listening to Moon you said the album represents a sense of "where am I"? That is exactly where Kanye was for the album, still grieving with his lost of his mother, struggles with god, and turning to him, in the wake of controversy, as well as losing his family. The album, being a jumble and a mess , is the album, and perfectly illustrates the space Kanye was in at this point of his life.A mess, but a beautiful one, revealing vulnerabilities similar to 808's. I hated this album, but man has it grown on me, and is personally my favorite Kanye album arguably of all time. I believe Bob, that it will grow on you as it has on me, and many more.

An issue I had was you mentioning how he was always trying to “convince himself” of things. If it’s not how you take in art I understand but I think it’s much to the benefit of this album if you just look at it in the context of it being raw emotions, every song will make much more sense hopefully.

he ain’t wrong with the 2nd part donda starts to get boring around that time

@@BrainETR he gave come to life a good amount of praise
Curious to know which tracks you thought were worth paying attention to in the second half of the album?
The theme of Donda is loss. The loss of his family, friends, kids and everything else around Ye at the time.
A lot of the features also talk about their own personal experiences of loss with Durk on Jonah and Andre on LOTP for example.
This is also further proven with the tributes to Kobe, Pop Smoke and DMX
The outro of Jesus Lord is talking about the loss of time that he (Larry Hoover Jr) and his kids went through with his father being in prison.
Nah the album is just mid bro
@@Jdjd-tk9dl wow, such a nuanced take with clear explanations and good examples to back them up
@@AngelRivera-de1lq It's bloated, unfocused and unfinished.
Not to mention the “rip to juice”
@@Jdjd-tk9dl honestly very agreed, as an experience Donda was the weakest on release, although i would say that the "too many cooks in the kitchen" got pretty much solved on Yeezus and no other album after 808s. people give shit to f*ntano for giving MBDTF a 6/10 but i agree with that rating and his criticisms, although i disagree on many of his other takes (Yeezus and Graduation are 10/10 albums to me). people say the production on Donda is generational, most of it is basic stripped down Trap beats. id also add Come to Life as the exceptional track from Donda though.

I just think he got tired of it, which is fair because it's so damn long
and considering he says TLOP is his favorite Ye album, he strangely had a big problem with Donda not being "focused" in comparison. Idk who would describe TLOP as focused lmfao
This album is supposed to have this minimal ominous sound that keeps ascending with each track till it reaches come to life / no child left behind, it was more apparent during the listening parties and with the themes that Kanye was looking to pull off a spectacle in honour of his mother however the tracklist was indeed bloated
wtf? what about Jail and Moon? they dont fit into this metaphore at all

Kanye fans are in a bubble. This album had very mixed reception on release. Yes, it was very hyped, yes it was relevant when it dropped, but no not everyone loved it. Deal with it. Lots of people were disappointed, that's not even close to a hot take.
I'm ngl the build up and roll out were also dissapointing. The constant delaying and changing of the album last minute was annoying asf
“Finally sitting down with Donda” wow I didn’t expect Bob to be able to pull off this kind of witchcraft. Thank you Bob, very cool
Idk why he has a problem with Kanye preaching something or trying to get a message across if he’s open minded and unbiased

I like keem but that was pretty funny
bob analyzing lyrics on off the grid 😂😂 most sound heavy track but what could paintings in her living room mean 🤔
spot on 🤣🤣
The thing about the "he's trying to convince himself of this" in pure souls is so funny because have you considered that instead of convincing himself of that, that he is trying to become that?
After you sit with this album for a week you’ll understand

I disagree with your view on the album's concept. It is very well defined: Kanye's mental health, his faith, a message of overcoming in the face of the pandemic, and also a tribute to his mother.

He caught the brainrot
This is Kanyes most impressive album in my opinion. Yes, the lows (3-4 tracks) are pretty low but the highs are comparable to his best albums. Songs like 24, Come to Life, No Child Left Behind, Believe What I Say, Life Of The Party, Jesus Lord, Pure Souls, New Again, Moon are absolutely otherworldly and have never been seen in hiphop before.

No it's pretty mid lmao
@Jarjar2270 notice how they said 'for me'
@@jacksyrett3132 He is objectively wrong.
You gotta relisten to this one bob, the more the video progressed the less open minded you felt
29:44 Bobby’s introduction to ny drill is killin me
We need an additional thoughts video asap I feel like with more listens you’ll like it
Bob being a little too harsh on a Kanye album and Kanye fans getting offended and defending it like it’s a classic😂
while it's not classic, his expectations for what it should sound like can ruin an album experience, while not a great album you should always go into an album with an open mind instead of placing judgment before it begins.
@@dingowaffle5700Donda is a great album are you kidding me? This shit was iconic when it came out
@@Jay-pd9kcit has a couple of great songs and then like 20 average songs. That's not a great album

I admit I hardly listen to this album anymore but at the time I couldn't stop playing it at the gym lol
this is spot on lol. the stans in the comments are crying when this is the honest truth
??? there was 1 song (Hurricane) on this album that was ripped from Yandhi and maybe one more you could kind of argue (Life of the Party)
i missed all of the donda rollout and i still think the album's great

This album may not be the most consistent, but Come To Life will forever be my favourite song of all time. The emotions it showcases through Kanye’s flawed but amazing singing, diverse and intricate instrumental, song depth and dimensions and gospel samples make it a once and a lifetime experience. Words can’t describe what the song feels like for me.

bob btw it sounds unfinished cause the label dropped it without kanye’s permission cause he was taking too long
Not true
@ kanye posted that himself lol
he swore a bit and the features swore a LOT. its just censored

I’ll wait for the additional thoughts before having thoughts on Bob’s thoughts

Nothing about his personal life is “beautiful”
idk what bob was expecting listening to one of the most boundary breaking artists
He expected Donda to be good which it’s not. Saying it’s boundary breaking is hilarious
@@forestfire1231i have no feelings for kanye or this album, i said kanye boundary breaking in general, that is what he is most credited for. any album from him you should expect him to experiment, which is how i see this album. it’s average kanye so this album matches my expectations

Great! You finished Kanye's discography... What an amazing journey has been. Unfortunately there's nothing after this, but oh well. It's better to end things here I guess... Anyways, Good job, Bob!
cant wait for your additional thoughts! this album grew on me so i wonder how different will you view this album after more listens
im sure this album will grow on you
An issue I had was you mentioning how he was always trying to “convince himself” of things. If it’s not how you take in art I understand but I think it’s much to the benefit of this album if you just look at it in the context of it being raw emotions, every song will make much more sense hopefully.
It's like you're back to square one.. Feel the sound, it's Kanye west ffs

@@marshlake74 "feel the sound it's kanye west ffs" is just nothing. It's music. He listened to the music. He "felt" the music. He didnt like it. It happens
@peterumathum4903 you didn't explain how that doesn't mean anything. And if you were being honest, you would agree that if he listened to this album a year or two ago, he would have been much more open minded, and would have appreciated the instrumentals and collaborations much more.
@@marshlake74 you explain what it means first, you're the one who said it.
