I’ve watched a lot of reactions but I haven’t seen such genuine passion for this masterpiece. I’ve listened to you guys throw around ideas for the video and I don’t doubt that you guys would’ve produced a masterpiece as well. E-man thanks for your honesty. @@NotJustAnimeOfficial For the record, I haven't seen anyone beating you up...at least not more than you guys beat up the artistic choices of the director, Jimin, set designer, etc. You are getting good feedback from people in no more forceful terms than what you guys did in the video. I think we WANT you to be honest...but we also want you to be okay with US being honest with you about what you weren't understanding and where we think you went wrong. I honestly got positive vibes from you guys for the SONG and sort of for the video, but it was really overridden by the negativity about everything you all thought they missed, did wrong, could have done better, etc. Imagine a woman having a spouse who said to her when she asked how she looked for a night out on the town with him: "Your hair looks like a bird's nest, your shoes look like you walked 1,000 miles in them through muddy streets, your jewelry is gawdy, your lipstick is smeared, and your dress looks like a pair of 70's-era curtains. But I really LOVE your belt, purse and earrings." That's kind of what your video felt like to me. 🤷♀ So absolutely be honest, but don't play the victim or say we're beating you up when we disagree.

You were not presented with "bullshit" as what one of you mentioned. The MV is telling the story of Jimin wanting and deciding to be set free from the stereotypes and coming into his own person. The concept is PANOPTICON which is a circular prison with cells arranged around which prisoners could be observed at all times. The MV is full of meaning and stories. That's why it's a music video with a full set, lights, and camera angles. I think you should know by now that BTS MVs are full of symbolisms and intelligent interpretations. Dance practice is plainly showing choreography. No storytelling, no depth.

The video is about him and his internal struggle… which is not specifically spelled out in the song. It’s a mantra to be set free from internal torment that is often aided by the faceless mob of haters and obsessed people. The video chose to focus on his smaller movements in the choreo so you can see his struggle to free himself from the opinion of others as well as depressive thoughts. He is the visual. The way that the video is “simple” is a way to set him free from the expectations of always having to be over the top like in other videos/performances.

If he’s the visual why is the camera 20-30 away from him. 80% of tge time the rehearsal was more up close and personal - I’m a creative exec for ten years with videos under my belt - if you saw the whole story watch the rehearsal video that’s where the passion and intimacy lives this is the story you speak ove without so racial effects or quick camera cuts - it’s my opinion and I’m entitled to it - if you liked this more than the rehearsal much respect to you.. but my experience tge beautiful rehearsal gave me true art- and Jimin is a master at expressing his body movements.
The dance practice was closer for sure, the practice room was only so big. The video brought some of the coldness and used the space well to highlight how he must have felt when he was going through a hard time. I also like the dance practice and the video equally. I love how Jimin used his face and hands in both the video and the practice to show his struggle to break free. I also love how his costume and the dancers costumes were the same in the beginning because they were his thoughts. Then it changed to shirtless with the poem about change/metamorphosis to show that he is fighting back against himself and whoever else points negativity at him. To finally in the end when it looks like the horde has won and engulfed him he comes out at the end in all white with a zoom in to the facial expression to show us that he’s won. I think all of this worked together with the choreo to tell the story that he wanted to tell
It’s a real back ground they actually build this stage from scratch specifically for this mv.

The set design was intentional. It is actually a replica of an ancient prison or panopticon. The spiral formation the dancers were in is called "the Golden ratio" based on philosophy and mathematics. The writing on his chest is a poem by Rainer Maria Rilke. The set is real. And every detail, tho seems minor, was intentional.
Jimin is telling the story through lyrical dance, the art of choreography to express emotions.

This is Jimin's story. Why would they focus on the background dancers? It's exactly why they are called such. Lol! The lighting is adding to the drama and the theatrical effect that this mv is presented. It's what you call art! The mv itself shows a lot of meaningful connotations to the song and the artist which is the main factor of the mv. The reason why you clearly see the intensity in the dance practice is only because it was well lighted so you can see everyone's dancing and expressions not only Jimin's.

The dancers were supposed to disappear because Jimin is the focus...no attention should be given to the dancers outside of the story they are helping him tell about being trapped and imprisoned by expectations, haters, etc. Also, you all look at the dance videos as if they are intended to be used for the MV. The dance practice is for the Live shows. Yes the choreo is included in the MV, but the MV is about the story not just the choreo. Also, the set is built it not CGI and it's not the director, it's Jimin and the director. I get what you all are going for with the dance practice to figure out the MV, but it's not's going to work that way with BTS. Their stories are in the MVs and there performance is on stage...the dance practices. Nothing changed in the choreo from the practice to the MV, it's just more story in the MV. You all watch Blood Sweat and Tears, had you watched the dance practice for the stage performance, you wouldn't get the story in the MV because it's sooooo different. BTS performance and MVs are separate.

I agree with what u were saying with the energy in the dance practice was on another level.... but u have to keep in mind that we are meant to watch the MV before the dance practice because that is how they are always released.... and we dont always get dance practices either so.... and because this wasnt the title track it makes sense that this music video was actually a performance video. Like Crazy was the title track which normally gets the an actual music video....but normally(there are exceptions) if it isn't a title track there wont be an actual MV.
This video is full of symbolism, from the way the dancers start a formation, the spirals, the black and white clothes and the writing on Jimin's bodie: The words inscribed into the singer's body are from a German poem called "Ich lebe mein Leben in wachsenden Ringen” by Rainer Maria Rilke. This translates to “I live my life in ever-widening circles” in English. He is talking about the heaters, his internal insecurities and finally he letting go and being free of all of it.Just remember that in the majority of BTS MVs nothing is as it seems! Every little thing needs a little bit of research. I read somewhere that " to be a ARMY you have to be a good at research, literature, mental health, art, Korean politics and current affairs", so yeah, some ARMY are highly intelligent and intuitive people who let us, less bright ARMY, know.

I think the problem here is that you watch dance practices first, to be honest. The impact of this song and this choreography is what hits you - so it hit you hardest and deepest when you saw it first...which for you was the dance practice. The video didn't "copy" the dance practice - the dance practice was literally the practice FOR the video, and the performances use the same choreo. But even so, I couldn't disagree with you more about this official MV. It is absolutely amazing, and while I love the dance practice it's not better compared to the story told here. It's only different.
Also, the ideas YOU came up with had absolutely nothing to do with the story of the song. The song was Jimin's story. It wasn't about angels, his bosses treating him badly (if you don't know that didn't happen, you should go back and re-learn the story of Jimin/BTS), etc., so of course the focus here was on JIMIN. Not on anything you dreamt up, and certainly not on the dancers equally to Jimin. You may not have understood the story being told, but it was there in the choreo and artistic video elements (which is how Jimin communicates, by the way). How about start with what the tattoo on Jimin's chest meant, what language it was in, what was its context? Next, what is the room? Also, what is the maze-type shape called and what does it represent? What does the butterfly reference in both the song and the choreography mean? Is that special to Jimin? All of that was just too deep for your conversation. The story was in the choreo, the symbolism, artistic choices. Jimin CHOSE not to tell the story the way you wanted it. And to not like what an artist presents because it wasn't what YOU wanted? What YOU interpreted? What it meant to YOU? Nope. That's not it.

The one member who used a whole lot of negative drama to stir the soup should keep a few things in mind. The dance practice was released after the mv so if he had been forming an opinion of the mv when the mv was released he would not have had anything to compare it to. Further, the dance practice was for actually performing the track live on stage. Like it, dislike it, that's fine. But the use of the word hate as trivial as this conversation is reinforces how people feel accentuating differences to the max in even insignificant cases is becoming overly pervasive in our culture. As BTS Suga put it exercise your freedoms but be careful not to be self-indulgent.
The army must stop giving views to people who are simply there to create buzz. they are not interested in bts they are just there for the notoriety of listening to bts.
Oh when you said "prison" in the dance practice I wanted so bad to say you were right! This set is made to resemble a panopticon, which is a circular prison with a tower in the middle. The prisoners cannot see the guards, but the guards can see the prisoners. I think it's a commentary on how it can feel to be stalked by reporters and toxic fans, never knowing when they will show up, knowing they are always watching.
Love the reaction videos from you guys! Its been interesting to watch your journey. I know you guys are probably just glossing over these comments at this point thinking that people are being haters- you are totally entitled to your opinions, but peoples frustration isn’t coming from a hateful place. I wish you guys would turn on the lyrics- you’ve said how amazing the dance is- but without the lyrics turned on, you haven’t realized the integral connection between the dance, what he’s showing us, and the story that he’s singing to us. Its literally acting out the lyrics more so then any other BTS song before. Jimin is a dancer, and this video is personal to him, and about his struggles- of course he told it to us by dance.
You said you didn’t understand the concept of the video- the concept is that he is literally trying to express his struggle to you through his dance- which trust me, if you looked at the lyrics and compared it to the dance moves they are doing, you would instantly see the connection.
He’s said many times how this is about a hard phase in his life - which isn’t being shot by angels or locked up in an actual prison, or working a lame day job with mean rich bosses. Its about his internal battles with his own negative thoughts, and opposition that he’s faced- people that have tried to hold him back, mock him, cage him with their perceptions of what he should do and who he should be.
At the beginning he talks of Hennesy and night. He’s shared with us before about how sometimes he would struggle after a big show- how after the highs of a big performance, he would often go back to his hotel room and drink, feeling depressed alone- the immense high from the show having an inevitable crash that leaves him feeling at rock bottom.
All throughout the video he’s trying to break free of the maze of the backup dancers, the spirals they create for him- it says that in the lyrics and shows us that in the dance. They aren’t supposed to stand out individually- they aren’t individuals. They are an amalgamation of his problems. He breaks free from the spiral- like a butterfly.
1:08 He says look at me now and they point at him in condemnation, they surround him on the wings with their arms open as if ready to lunge in and grab him at the first sign of weakness.
1:12 He covers his face but then says I won’t hide any more, even if it hurts .He says raise your hand for the past me, opens his fist and says- now set me free
The dancers are constantly surrounding him- there are moments where he breaks free to the front, but they are constantly recircling him, surrounding him, and pushing him back. Its not often that a dance with tons of backup dances has them consistently surrounding the ‘main’ person of the dance- normally they are literally to the back or the sides to not take away focus from them. The fact that they are constantly fully surrounding him is clearly intentional.
1:40 He raises his hands up, palms clasped together, as if in supplication, while the dancers in the back stretch out their arms and then make grabbing motions towards him as if trying to pull him back. He runs from them but they follow and pull him back.
2:24 They push him back, and now the people pointing fingers are raised up, they’re larger then ever- but he says, I wont stop even if they mock me
3:14 The very hands that raise him up claw towards him and frantically try to drag him back down, until you cant even see him. But he rises. All through the video hes been asking set me free, even in the background vocals hes been saying- wont you set me free, please set me free. But now he stands, alone, having finally freed himself.
And lets talk about that german tattoo on Jimins body- we saw from behind the scenes that that was his idea, even to specifically put it on his skin instead of wearing a shirt that said it.

A poem about growth, about how our lives are not some linear thing, but how we grow in circles that touch those around us, how we grow outward with our experiences like the rings of an old oak tree.
And a self introspection- what are you in this life. Are you the falcon- a wild creature that nonetheless, returns to the falconers tether? Are you a storm- powerful and unleashed? Or are you a great song- something joyous, something that moves people, that connects us. He’s still trying to find that answer for himself.
One last thing to consider. Most people stumbling on a video like this, if they aren’t a BTS fan, are only going to see the MV. They aren’t then going to go hunt down a dance video. It’s a three minute video. And if the MV is mainly big epic shots of this or that battle or opera or prison or showing a story of him stuck at his sucky 9-5 job and trying to escape it- that’s all most people would see for this song. You’d see 1/3 of the dance at most, like most MVs. They’d never see the entirety of this epic choreo- one that as you guys said, is some of the best you’ve ever seen. I think the goal was to make sure that the largest amount of people possible saw the full, epic dance- since anything else would have honestly been a disservice to a piece of art that is at that high a level.
Its funny. Your guys reactions would literally have been so different if you had watched this, then the dance practice. But that’s not your fault. I know you guys have fun making your predictions. But sometimes that can lead to disappoint when those predictions fail, or when you start trying to tell their story, instead of letting them tell us. Even one of the guys said they ‘hated’ this video because it didn’t live up to what you were building in your head. Its hard not to be disappointed when you start a video hoping it will fall under a certain narrative.
I would honestly suggest watching the MVs first (with the lyrics on), then dance practices or live performances. Because they do have another dance performance video for a song with an epic dance like this that might disappoint you again if you watch the practice first. Practice vids are always more raw and have a more frantic, less polished energy- so they are a nice treat after watching the more ‘official’ version thats made to catch the more mainstream eye. If you still want to make your guesses, you could watch the MV teasers first, then guess and watch the MV after. But - this is your channel of course you should do whatever brings you the most enjoyment. Thank you for watching and sharing with us!

I definitely appreciate your comments although I disagree with your perception of what you feel the video represents….there is so much symbolism that got lost on your views….this song was created during covid when everyone was separated and alone and trapped within their thoughts and this was how Jimin expressed his angst and struggles to be set free from all the negativity within himself and around him….the fact that you genuinely try to understand is key, you just need to dig a little further to truly understand…. I see a lot of ARMY have already broken some aspects down for you and it’s all done with love …. I love that you guys all have different perspectives abt the video. It's normal, eveyone is gonna like different things. Thanks for keeping it honest. The MV is always released before the dance practices, so ppl usually do see the MV first.
It's not uncommon for ppl to enjoy the rawness of the dance practices more, MVs do tend to be more polished, not just for BTS, but "kpop" in general.
I think the live performances will have the same type of reaction from you guys bc they're not so far off from the MV. IMO the best one he did was for inkigayo.

Watch the explaination of the video on bookish theories. There was a lot of symbolism in this video. The setting is modeled after the panopticon which is the perfect prison design and jimin represents a prisoner and the guard monitoring the prisoners in the tower since it about him being in a mental prison where he is torturing himself. The tattoos on his chest is a german poem called widening circles that talks about the concept as well. This is a pretty deep video and choreo. Many of bts videos and even performances have deep meaning. The cold colors are intentional because he is in the cold dark prison in his mind.

Ima be real with you. BTS and the members release their music videos first then the dance practices for a reason. That very reason why you feel like they arent giving that "ummph" in the music video. Jimin explained the reason and the meaning behind everything. He wanted to keep it simple. Maybe try watching the videos before the dance practices to understand idk. Plus some of the videos dont have dance practices. I wish yall good luck

Sometimes music videos don’t have to be over the top. I personally love the simplicity of this video. Moving forward, it’s probably best to watch the MV 1st, then the dance practice. That being said, I too often times like the dance practices more than the actual MV’s so I get it. It’s a shame that some of you have such a negative, visceral reaction to the video, saying you hate it and that it’s bullshit, that’s a bit harsh. No offense, but as Jimin says, “F all your opps” 😂 but seriously, thanks for being honest

I think they forget the main purpose of a background dancer. They are used to support the center, in this case, Jimin. Background dancers, specifically are nothing more than movable props, and this is coming from a dancer. The dance practice is just that, a practice, so obviously they're going to have a bit more individuality when it comes to their clothes (it's like going to the gym, we would wear work out clothes for that). It sucks that yall didn't watch the mv first. The choreography is art, and mv was served exactly what it needed, which is to support Jimin and his message, which includes the use of the set, the lyrics, production of the song, and the choreography. I highly recommend yall watch some of the behind the scene videos to understand the point in BTS's mv's, because all they create is art. Everything has a meaning, and I mean everything, including Jimin's body art that is written in I think German, which comes from a poem.

The dude in the quilted vest doesn’t know what he’s talking about. You really have no idea what the members of BTS are about - full of symbolism! There was nothing complex about that video - it wasn’t supposed to be complicated! it’s one scene and it was built to look like a prison. It’s the dancing that tells the story, not a whole bunch different scenes! The floor wasn’t hardwood because the video was not meant to be all warm and fuzzy.
The dancers were meant to look the same - they ARE back up dancers. Your friend needs to learn the purpose of back up dancers - they make the artist and his story look and feel better; they are not the co-stars. I think you need to learn the meaning of this song. The camera work was awesome, because you could see him navigate the scenes from the top that were important to see. Of course, it’s going to be essentially the same as the practice…that’s what a practice is - a carbon copy of the of the actual performance!
Sometimes LESS IS MORE when it comes to visuals! Strangely, you’re the only reactors who criticized it, saying the practice was better? You should have watched the video first and THEN the practice! In fact, they don’t release the practices until some time AFTER the mv has been released.

On the behind the scenes Jimin said he saw this set as a prison so Eman got that! I love the camera angles on the video. I think the practice and the video are great in different ways. I think the energy of the practice was because they were so tired and were doing it one last time and gave it their all. Also, your first impression should have been the finished work. When making a movie they don’t put out rehearsals first and neither do BTS. Because you had both to choose from they were watched out of order, which uses up your first impression. Live and learn. I think by watching a choreography first you build ideas for a MV which ends up being disappointing if it doesn’t match your idea. We only get to see the MV first so we see from a fresh view and are surprised. Then a few days later they release choreography. I like both and I can’t pick a favorite. But I can tell from all your other reviews how you get disappointed if your guesses are wrong.
y'all might understand their artistic direction more with the lyrics turned on in the mv. I'm suggesting this respectfully of course cause in the end it's your channel so you can react how you want. I just see yalls frustration with the direction of some of the videos and I believe some clarity could be found when you know what they're saying. It can be hit or miss to completely understand the video concept when you don't know the lyrics, since they're in a different language. I believe most of their music videos have them. Anyway, I enjoy you guy's reactions in general. Borahae

Ok I see the spicy comments and I understand. I also understand yallz perspective. You are also coming in as new fans/new viewers of bts so it's understandable that certain things might get overlooked. Most of us saw the mv, dance pratice then the behind the scenes so the mv had more of an impact and then the making of it gave it a lot more meaning. This video is my fav bts mv and I've been a fan for 7 yrs. A diff perspective/taste isn't bad just as long as it isn't degrading for no reason at all. Thanks for your honesty.

Anyhow, there is an entire market for the practises, performances videos (see JK Seven Explicit version and 3D.) BTS management is reaching out wide and wider. I respect that everyone has their opinions, but to call this MV “bullshit”??? You liked the dance practice cuz it was simple yet you are wanting more in this MV. And the dance practice is FOR this MV, not the other way around

This reaction is hilarious. I've seen so many reactions to this video and everyone really has something passionate to say. This song really inspired strong reaction since day one. Reddit had a long discussion why they hate/love this song, but this is the first time someone said the MV let them down😭
I'm not even mad even tho for me the MV is amazing, no distractions, no unnecessary effects, just Jimin dancing to the choreography expressing the song beautifully. the set is built from the ground, the lighting perfectly timed to the choreography, the camera works doing good job capturing the necessary shots. The set is inspired by a panopticon, a circular prison and that's why they're dressed uniformly like that. Jimin is basically dancing inside a prison while singing set me freeeeee.
I prefer this than any other type of MV. You guys looking for something more raw, I'd take that as a compliment because you already saw the other raw material (dance practice) before this version (MV). It's a matter of taste i guess.
But one thing is for sure, for a lot of us this is Jimin's version of bohemian rhapsody, the song in his discography that got the most divisive reaction lmao. You should have seen everyone's reaction when this first came out, it was trending in YT #1 worldwide for days, it has so many reaction videos because random UA-camrs decided to react because it's trending. Twitter flights erupted, reddit discussion got heated. And reminder that this is Jimin's pre-release, so this is his first song as announcement to his album. And boy he did great in catching everyone's attention with this song and MV 😂
