This was an excellent video my Dude. Well done! Liked and subscribed 👍🏻 Syphon Filter is a criminally underrated game franchise for the PlayStation. I’d love to see this get a complete reboot on the PS5
Also I hope if a remake happens that the lock on system is kept. The game felt very cinematic since you could get some awesome camera angles and enjoy the animations. + it felt balanced since you had plenty of situations where you had to head shot with manual mode

Man I feel the same way bro I think Gabe Logan should be up there with Sam Fisher and Solid Snake! Maybe one day they will remake it. AWESOME VIDEO BROTHER!
This was the first game my Pops introduced me to. At the time, he worked at a place called KB toys and was able to buy the OG Playstation and a copy of the game and it's strategy guide. For hours on end, I'd watch as he played the game. When he finally beat it, I shared in his excitement as he said "Now it's your turn!" This game will always hold a special place in my heart, really hope someone remakes it or does a soft reboot for it.
I was stuck in the catacombs in this game and then I finish that game It was the very last game I finish before becoming 18. I can’t stop remembering how much I love that game
I loved this game as a kid. Was hard because me barely understanding English but hey... coming to think of it i need to finish it haha. Great reminder, thanks.
@@joethealternativegamer3935 yeah i think furthest i got was the warehouse but couldn't understand what to do xD but yeah this game is no walk in the park for sure. But rather have this over all the handholding in games these day.
Haven’t even watched the video yet but I’m subscribing just on the fact that you committed to making a whole documentation on one of my favorite game series ❤❤
I remember that you could basically just commando-roll everywhere and use the triggers to change direction. It didn't slow you down at all, so you could just do it continuously to make yourself a harder target to hit!
This was one of the main games I played back in the day, this is always one of the top games I think of when I think about OG PlayStation. I still remember the Biz-2 gun absolutely slapped! I loved, Syphon Filter, MGS, Gran Turismo 2, Tenchu, Colony Wars, and all of the Demo disc free games on the gaming magazines 😂😂
There's a 4th way of aiming that very few know of, but is actually extremely useful. Aim without lock on or 1st person, use the character movement and point at your target, especially with the crouch feature. I found this was actually more consitently hitting enemies than the lock on fire and much faster than the 1st person aimming, but takes a bit of practice. One technique that I used a lot, especially in the excellent mutliplayer mode, was this combo - head towards a target, roll at mid range, repostion yourself with the character movement stick so that the enemy is 12 o'clock to Gabe, hold crouch button to stay down after the roll finishes - then open fire!
I'd say there's also a third aiming mode, which is to shoot roughly into the direction of the enemies, without selecting any of the mentioned aiming modes. It'll kind of auto aim, and it's pretty useful sometimes if you wanna save time. Great video, by the way
Great video. The look of SF has always been so great to me, something about it drews me in. Seeing this videos reminds me how much I love and miss SF as lately I've almost forgotten about it till now. Although I love SF I've never completed the original trilogy 2 I've gotten the most in so soon I want to play and complete them, I haven't played the PSP ones so really want to play them as well, Dark Mirror or sometimes one of them where called. And as I said before this series really does deserve a Remake or a new sequel. Maybe a spiritual successes of Syphon Filter as that has happened with so many other old games and a lot if the spiritual successes have been great like Two Point Hospital, Grip and Wreakfest.
I wish syphon filter would make a comeback, I know the same people that made syphon filter made Days Gone, and Sony kinda screwed the pooch by denying syphon filter a comeback for a Last of us remake for ps5 that doesn't really need to happen in my opinion, it came out the other day, meanwhile syphon filter hasn't had a game out since Logan's shadow.
@@jacobnicoletti1235 yeah, since the Days gone game performed "poorly" according to the people that made the game( they are the same people that made the syphon filter games) there was one of the developers that came out and started badmouthing the fan base and I think he either left the company or got fired, don't quote me on that, but one thing leads to another and we don't get a new syphon filter, meanwhile last of us wasn't a bad game, but it came across as very bland in my opinion, at least the second one did, and even if it was as good people say it is, it came out not that long ago, porting it over to ps5 is not a big deal and Sony is trying to make a big hoopla out of it, I couldn't care less about last of us, syphon filter hasn't had a game out since 2007ish, no metal gear solid and syphon filter? This is a sad world we live in right now.
@@jacobnicoletti1235 I didn't even think about that, completely went over my head, I was just thinking about a new game because there's a gap between the history of syphon filter and the transition to day's gone, but that's a good point, a remake of the original 3 would be great, dark mirror and Logan's Shadow is optional I guess, but Logan's Shadow history is super underrated
I have been playing through this series in full after dabbling with it in the past and these games are great. It feels like you are playing an action movie with how intense the combat is and I love all of the settings the developers came up with.
I literally just downloaded this and started playing this game this morning on my PS5 from the new classic collection. My nostalgia is at an all-time high right now.
Omg Syphon needs a comeback!! They introduced a level where I never saw before.. I was crossing a pipe above 2 factions fighting below.. you could stealth..or fight on either side.. wasn't perfect but it blew me away!! Taser..headshots..grenade launcher.. exploring large levels for a ps1 was amazing!! I still play it today!! First is my fav!!!
Bend has such a great sense of level design even as far back as Syphon 1. Syphon 2 has too many cheap 1 hit death moments and frustrating stealth but great set pieces and a fantastic story. 3 felt bland but still really fun. Omega Strain is the only one I'd call bad but it wasn't Bend's fault- Sony forcing them to tack on single player to a multiplayer-focused game. Dark Mirror is my favorite. Even if it has one of the weaker plots it's told in such an entertaining way and the characters shine so well in it. Logans Shadow has the best story and presentation, ending the series in such a sad but impactful way. I miss the series so much, can't stand people who call it a MGS rip off cua it's nothing like MGS
One of the few games where you played it once to beat it then you played it several more times to get better at it. You could get flashy and creative with the kills on every level. The unique sounds of each individual gun were great.
Brilliant Video! I remember aages ago I made a Video stating I strongly believed Syphon Filter was a superior Game to MGS. It's awesome that these same developers made Days Gone! I just love their work. Looking forward to going through you backlog and future content
Days Gone actually has a reference to Syphon Filter in it, apparently you can find a file that mentions some characters like Lian Xing and some others, even has the taser apparently
i remember playing the entire game using the taser. (except where I wasn't allowed to) it was a blast. I still remember how fun it was . whipping the taser line on snipers like an electrified spiderman.
Excellent review. One of my all time favourite ps1 games I remembered, UA-camd it and found this video. I play this game on my Xbox one through retroarch emulation. Now, to solve the clunky movement u experienced with this game. The left and right top bumpers help u move left or right respectively. This makes it easier to move in combat and makes the game a lot less stressful. Make sure u use those buttons for ur next review. I’m also thinking of reviewing this game. It’s just too iconic but doesn’t get enough credit because it’s old now. Great music, iconic level design and boss fights. Pulls u in the action instantly and wastes no time with quick time events or boring cutscenes which we hv in today’s games. Just true gameplay. In my opinion syphon filter 1 and 2 were the best. 3 was ok. But the music wasn’t as good and sum of the level design was very slow. Other then that. Great review 👍.
Mate! Im going to subscribe for this video alone! I grew up in that era and Syphon filter definitely does not get enough love!!! Over shadowed by MGS! For sure but with equal standing in my opinion!
Hands down, this is one of the greatest PS1 games ever!! This is the game I wanna see be remade the most. Game was way ahead of it's time with it's storyline and gameplay. The Spinter Cell series took a page out of Syphon Filter!! And that taser was a game changer!! The good ol' days where you could take the hell out of your opponents and not get a M rating. The main reason I love this game is because the first mission of the game featured the DC Metro it in. Me being from the DMV area, and this being the first game to feature the subway of my hometown, it warmed my heart. I jumped up and cheered when I saw the map of the DC Metro in the game. Fun Fact: The Georgia-Ave Petworth Station which the subway station in the game was based on, wasn't even open at the time of the game's release. Would love to see a full remake for the PS5!! In my top 5 of greatest PS1 games ever!!
I was big on this series. Still have the demo version of level 1. The follow-up 2 & 3 were equally as fun imo. The Omega Strain was fun, but felt a bit different. Good times! Nice video 🖒🖒
To new players; enemy armor can be destroyed with sustained fire, you're not required to aim 1st person, it just takes about 3x more bullets to chew through armor. The BIZ-2 is particularly fun to rain bullets with.
Yes yes yes, i loved this game. I never played 2 and 3. I used to have trouble as a kid in the catacombs. I couldnt figure out how to initiate the came to continue after following the doctor
And as someone who also speaks russian, I was laughing my a$$ off, bc of the plot of the second game and russian voice acting, it was brilliant mess. I miss that era of games.... 😼
Loved the series as a kid. Recently just dusted it off and had another go at it and man those controls make you feel as if you’re playing as a drunk secret agent
I remember back in '99 not having enough money to buy Metal Gear so I had to settle for a game that was on sale for $39.99 at Toys R' Us. I wanted a game that was very similar to Metal Gear so I stumbled across Syphon Filter's Ps1 case and thought to myself this is the one plus I was already taking interest in firearms at an early age and ever since then Syphon has been my favorite Playstation franchise.
SF2, it was first game I ever played at home. With zero gaming experience and basicly no english it took me months to complete it. Since then I finish all PSX SF game countless time on hard and every time I go back its challenge again. Most nostalgic game for me
Syphon Filter died around the same time that Halo was hitting its peak. I switched to Xbox around that time also. A new Syphon Filter is probably the only thing that could get me to buy a PlayStation again.
When I was like 10 I got this game as a present (otherwise my parents wouldn't have let me play it) and I remember thinking it was so messed up how you could taze bad guys until they caught on fire lol. Shit stuck with me for life. Great game.
Headshots aside, I remember using either that awesome G-18 smg/pistol to waste people with flak jackets. The bullets were not armor piercing, but the high fire rate and damage per second would reduce any flak jacket to shreds. You could should auto-aim and expend some ammo, and destroy the armor and enemy within the same magazine. There was also that other SMG with armor piercing rounds. The sound of that one wasn't as satisfying, but having enough rounds for those would help you finish selected enemies using auto-aim.
This game was great. I remember i was staying with my cousins, and we had this and metal gear solid. It was my turn playing syphom filter, .we couldn't figure out that elevator like mentioned in this video. I was the one that eventually figured it out, so I was the man for a few minutes but I was killed a few minutes later lol What a great time to be a gamer. I'm so glad that the ps classic is so easy to mod hahah
I can't believe these guys literally made Bubsy 3D. Syphon Filter has the weirdest control scheme I have ever seen. Such a relic of its time. And that taser. That always stuck with me.
Not sure why Syphon Filter gets lumped in with MGS. It’s designed to be a run and gun. The parts that require the first person shooting are awful (so many flak jackets). The bumper strafing and lock on aim makes it feel more like Grand Theft Auto than Metal Gear.
I miss these type of games. No BS microtransactions, No lengthy tutorials that hold your hand, good single player story, and most of all just fun to play.
I was captivated by being able to shock that dude to death in the opening of level one, original Syphon Filter. I must've shocked that dude to death and restarted a dozen times before moving on with the game. Thankfully I didn't grow up to be a sadistic serial killer, but I did cackle like a crazy mofo as a kid doing that. Just like I did sticking my dog to bite asshats in the nuts in slow mo playing Dead To Rights, another fun damn game from that era.
What’s funny is this series reminds me of the 80’s Cloak and Dagger movie with Dabney Coleman minus the campiness.. I wouldn’t necessarily say Bends games are underrated.. I’d just say they’re an all around underrated dev.. Uncharted Golden Abyss was actually one of my favorite games ever and this was the title that made me a huge fan of that series.. I suppose they’re the talk of the town now due to fans petitioning to have their latest IP Days Gone continue which is seemingly unprecedented..
@@joethealternativegamer3935 i wish they would Remake this game for the playstation 5 in xbox and also metal gear solid and hitman as well I still have my old playstation and all those games but it's really hard to play that nowadays I don't even know where it's sad I think it's in my attic
Ive always wondered if a game like the original syphon filter could exist in a post 9/11 world, especially with this game's first subway lvl, even the boxart for the third game had to be censored on release. If we ever did see the day where the trilogy got a remaster (perhaps similar but much better executed than the gta trilogy) i do hope there would be more improvements rather than changes that would otherwise go against the games core identity
Just some trivia, if you played this game a lot when young and to this day you play with inverted aim, this game may be why, as it's inverted by default. 😄
I was beyond excited seeing this on the ps store when the first set of ps1 games got added to ps plus and the first thing I did was taze an enemy until he caught fire somethings you carry into adulthood
I may primarely be a Nintendo fan nowadays but I have to admit that the PlayStation 1 had some of the best games of all time which has some of my favourite series ever. Series like Syphon Filter, Metal Gear Solid and Tomb Raider were at their peak on the PS1 and no new Sony franchise has ever even been close to matching the quality of these three series to this day. I'd love if they made new Syphon Filter games with the PS1 graphics and design philosophies as they weren't able to touch the quality of the first 2 games in later consoles. Syphon Filter 1 and 2 will always be timeless masterpieces and while 3 isn't perfect it was still great.
@@joethealternativegamer3935 I personally only would want more if it was with the graphics and gameplay style of the first 3 games. I don't see that happening officially but I could see something similar to what happened to Super Mario 64 and the old Tomb Raider games where entire fan games are spawning from ROM hacks.
I’d say the seminal 3 were MGS, Thief and Tenchu All were pretty big before Syphon Filter, Hitman and Splinter Cell Good vid tho. I’ll have to try these, I skipped them in the day because I never heard anyone talking about them and when I saw who developed it my first thought was “the Bubsy 3D guys? Pass!” I hadn’t really heard they were all that good until recent years

Syphon deserves it!
Man I feel the same way bro I think Gabe Logan should be up there with Sam Fisher and Solid Snake! Maybe one day they will remake it. AWESOME VIDEO BROTHER!
Thank you :)
This series deserves to come back!

I was stuck in the catacombs in this game and then I finish that game
It was the very last game I finish before becoming 18. I can’t stop remembering how much I love that game
This first thing I remembered was the catacombs. Such an awesome game
I loved this game as a kid. Was hard because me barely understanding English but hey... coming to think of it i need to finish it haha. Great reminder, thanks.
Time to finish it!! It is hard!
@@joethealternativegamer3935 yeah i think furthest i got was the warehouse but couldn't understand what to do xD but yeah this game is no walk in the park for sure. But rather have this over all the handholding in games these day.
Yea this game had some engaging problem solving
Hello fellow people who grew up without the internet. Thank you for making feel less lonely.
Haven’t even watched the video yet but I’m subscribing just on the fact that you committed to making a whole documentation on one of my favorite game series ❤❤
Thank you very much! I’m a big fan!
I remember that you could basically just commando-roll everywhere and use the triggers to change direction. It didn't slow you down at all, so you could just do it continuously to make yourself a harder target to hit!
Yea and essential for some areas
Now is the perfect time for a new entry or a visual remake like with Medievil. Outside of Hitman, there’s a lack of stealth action games
My brother and I used to call the levels with the monastery, monks with machine guns. The most absurd enemies you’d ever have to kill in a video game.
Omg lol! I love that name!
One of my favorite series that sadly died off. They really should do a proper remake with today's tech imo.
I’d agree! Besides Hitman there are no major big budget stealth games! We need syphon more than ever! Perfect time to come back!
Did they really cancel a new SF for Last of Us?
@@redchris97 I agree with you. I’d like to see the original trilogy remastered.
Well said!
I literally just downloaded this and started playing this game this morning on my PS5 from the new classic collection. My nostalgia is at an all-time high right now.
Enjoy :)
I got the platinum for the PS5 version.
Some of the levels allow for a lot of playground like fun!
@@joethealternativegamer3935 yes.. I mean it was a shock to see a battle below and I had options.. in 1999 it was amazing!!
Thank you so much for bringing Syphons legacy back to relevancy!!!
You’re welcome :)
I’d like to eventually cover each one!
Btw: I'm newly subscribed!! Awesome work bro!!
This one deserves a remakes
I remember this now, thanks for the reminder that it once existed.
One of the few games where you played it once to beat it then you played it several more times to get better at it. You could get flashy and creative with the kills on every level. The unique sounds of each individual gun were great.
Exactly. This game is just fun to play.
Brilliant Video! I remember aages ago I made a Video stating I strongly believed Syphon Filter was a superior Game to MGS. It's awesome that these same developers made Days Gone! I just love their work. Looking forward to going through you backlog and future content
Thank you :)
Days Gone actually has a reference to Syphon Filter in it, apparently you can find a file that mentions some characters like Lian Xing and some others, even has the taser apparently
@@lastpringle8904 oh very cool!! They also had a Syphon Filter Themed Bike as well 🤓
I love how boss fights in SF forces the player to use strategy to defeat the enemy as opposed to health bar.
Yes
989 studios!
Man what nostalgia
Haha
Syphon Filter is always the first thing I say when asked what game would I want to be remade.
Me too.
i remember playing the entire game using the taser. (except where I wasn't allowed to) it was a blast. I still remember how fun it was . whipping the taser line on snipers like an electrified spiderman.
Very well researched and presented! Thank you
Thank you :)
Thank you :)
1 and 2 are the finest ones on the ps1!
Mate! Im going to subscribe for this video alone! I grew up in that era and Syphon filter definitely does not get enough love!!! Over shadowed by MGS! For sure but with equal standing in my opinion!
Thank you :)
Yea there definitely is a lack of Syphon Coverage!
I had no idea that devs that made one of my childhood's favorite games are the same that made Bubsy 3D, wow.
Yea I didn’t know it either until I did research for this video!
I was big on this series. Still have the demo version of level 1. The follow-up 2 & 3 were equally as fun imo. The Omega Strain was fun, but felt a bit different. Good times!
Nice video 🖒🖒
You won't believe how many times I beat sf 1-2-3.... I played them for years on mu old Ps1.... Destroying my friends in deathmatches 😁
They need to remaster these!
@@joethealternativegamer3935 yeah... PSP ones were good, but way slower and less action packed, and the ps2 one was meh... 😐
I really enjoyed Dark Mirror! Very impressive on psp!
SF2 is bloody hard with all those enemies that can insta-headshot kill you.
Just picked up a physical version of the game and playing for the first time. Really enjoying the game.
Awesome!
How did you find a physical copy of SF?
@@vanhalen4life1I mean it’s sold cheaply on ebay.
Also don't forget about 3rd person Spec Ops series on Ps1, those were my gems 😎
So many gems on ps1!
Once again great job man
Thank you! And thank you for watching :)
Syphon filter was the reason I came to PlayStation. With the way games are developed nowadays, this game would literally dominate!
I wish they’d revive it
Bro, I LOVED this trilogy as a kid. Beat them over and over again.
I hope I did a good job with this then :)
Best game for ps1 ever in my opinion story telling controllers not to hard but not to easy ether great gane
It is one of the greats!
To new players; enemy armor can be destroyed with sustained fire, you're not required to aim 1st person, it just takes about 3x more bullets to chew through armor. The BIZ-2 is particularly fun to rain bullets with.
Yea that is a correction! Lol maybe I’ll do a redux video! :)
This is great content, your videos are pretty good definitely got me to sub,
Keep it up !!!!
Thank you so much :)
3:14 very unique commercial concept
God, I LOVED using the taser in the first game. I just love watching enemies get burnt to crisp while they scream in agony.
Taser is king!
A great era!
How would you rate the Russian voice acting?
Loved the series as a kid. Recently just dusted it off and had another go at it and man those controls make you feel as if you’re playing as a drunk secret agent
i played 1 and 3 back then amazing games ( at that time ) great review
Thank you!!
Seeing you use the shotgun about 2/3 through the video when one of your hazmat buddies was in the potential crossfire made me nervous lol.
@@calelsun lol
The Catacombs is the first thing that come to mind when I look back on this gem
what a great game
Great game.
Lol

Taser is king!
@@joethealternativegamer3935 I spent a lot of time tasering every enemy I could to a crisp.
Freaking loved this game. I am not a gamer and was 14 when this came out. I think about how awesome this game was often.
Not sure why Syphon Filter gets lumped in with MGS. It’s designed to be a run and gun. The parts that require the first person shooting are awful (so many flak jackets). The bumper strafing and lock on aim makes it feel more like Grand Theft Auto than Metal Gear.

Metal Gear ?

I miss these type of games. No BS microtransactions, No lengthy tutorials that hold your hand, good single player story, and most of all just fun to play.

Thank you for reviving this great series. I ended up playing the first two of them. Very memorable indeed.
@@amundbisgaard7295 trying to give it some love!
The original Dead To Rights is awesome!
Awesome video, well done :)
Thank you! Come back Gabe, we miss you!
I played it and beat it on the PS1 when it came out it was a lot of fun
What’s funny is this series reminds me of the 80’s Cloak and Dagger movie with Dabney Coleman minus the campiness.. I wouldn’t necessarily say Bends games are underrated.. I’d just say they’re an all around underrated dev.. Uncharted Golden Abyss was actually one of my favorite games ever and this was the title that made me a huge fan of that series..
I suppose they’re the talk of the town now due to fans petitioning to have their latest IP Days Gone continue which is seemingly unprecedented..
That is true, they are an underrated dev!
loved that game so many good memories as a kid in the 90s and early 2000s playing ayphon filter
Love it now too!

Great video
Thank you :)
What happened with that gta remaster lol!?
Just some trivia, if you played this game a lot when young and to this day you play with inverted aim, this game may be why, as it's inverted by default. 😄
Amazing game, the SF2 PVP mode was incredible.
Bring it back
22:12 That's an enemy gunship. A single burst from its machine guns can cut a man in half.
I was beyond excited seeing this on the ps store when the first set of ps1 games got added to ps plus and the first thing I did was taze an enemy until he caught fire somethings you carry into adulthood
How did you play the game? The image looks very sharp and clean.
I washed the footage!
@@joethealternativegamer3935 Was the footage obtained from play on an actual Playstation or an emulator?
I def want more SF
@@joethealternativegamer3935 I personally only would want more if it was with the graphics and gameplay style of the first 3 games. I don't see that happening officially but I could see something similar to what happened to Super Mario 64 and the old Tomb Raider games where entire fan games are spawning from ROM hacks.
My first bought game for PS1/ I didn't even own PS at that time, so I would go to the internet cafe, and bring the game to play it.
Syphon Filter was a masterpiece. I would play it now if I could.
It’s on ps4/5, or if you have a pc through other means…
I’d say the seminal 3 were MGS, Thief and Tenchu
All were pretty big before Syphon Filter, Hitman and Splinter Cell
Good vid tho. I’ll have to try these, I skipped them in the day because I never heard anyone talking about them and when I saw who developed it my first thought was “the Bubsy 3D guys? Pass!”
I hadn’t really heard they were all that good until recent years
