@@mrvlsmrv Friedrich Schleiermacher's approach to Christianity established two important principles that were to have great impact. First, there was his disengagement of the content of faith from historical witness to events which could have a controlling or guiding result. This led to the second principle, the implicit notion that one could legitimately detach Christianity from its historic matrix of Scripture, creed, and doctrine and still have a valid claim to being a Christian. What Schleiermacher accomplished in reality was to promulgate a new religion altogether, while calling it "Christianity."

Beau was really interesting today. I actually wrote a few of his quotes down. I like how he describes the Democratic Party as a coalition, and for that reason it’s hard to achieve unity. And his definition of the Republican Party is on the mark. New ideas vs No ideas. Tradition vs Progress. Fear vs Hope. Beau does such a great job breaking things down and making things simple. He never fails to teach me something I didn’t know before. And I feel sort of honored to stand with him as we all try to live and push through these tumultuous times.

I think a lot of concepts from my grandpa's time make sense - half the population not working and focusing on raising kids and being active in the community, people getting paid enough to have a house and a family car, the rich getting taxed some 75%, social security when you retire....
The only distinction is I don't care about what the color or gender of the people in the society is.

That's partly just a feature of "othering." Any "othered" group, or outgroup, is viewed as all the same.
You catch people doing it all the time, mostly white to nonwhite people (but negative stereotypy is a game that all can play 😡). Then said people get offended when you point out they're thinking in a racist way. "It's just the truth!" 🤦
Human groups always have internal subgroups and contradictions.
What I worry about is the fact that they're willing to other us so severely that they consider us to be not-quite-individuals... because that boils down to dehumanizing us a bit.
Most humans have to dehumanize people extensively before they can engage in massacres of them...

To debunk John Smith (who was silly enough to admit they are a paid republican troll, and for that reason I never reply directly to anyone I even suspect of trolling), I am replying instead to OP..
Here are the 14 Characteristics of Fascism (Interestingly, John has supported all of them at some point).
      1. Powerful and Continuing Nationalism - Fascist regimes tend to make constant use of patriotic mottos, slogans, symbols, songs, and other paraphernalia. Flags are seen everywhere, as are flag symbols on clothing and in public displays.
      2. Disdain for the Recognition of Human Rights - Because of fear of enemies and the need for security, the people in fascist regimes are persuaded that human rights can be ignored in certain cases because of "need." The people tend to look the other way or even approve of torture, summary executions, assassinations, long incarcerations of prisoners, and the like.
      3. Identification of Enemies/Scapegoats as a Unifying Cause - The people are rallied into a unifying patriotic frenzy over the need to eliminate a perceived common threat or foe: racial, ethnic or religious minorities; liberals; communists; socialists, terrorists, and the like.
      4. Supremacy of the Military - Even when there are widespread domestic problems, the military is given a disproportionate amount of government funding, and the domestic agenda i s neglected. Soldiers and military service are glamorized.
      5. Rampant Sexism - The governments of fascist nations tend to be almost exclusively male-dominated. Under fascist regimes, traditional gender roles are made more rigid. Opposition to abortion is high, as is homophobia and anti-gay legislation and national policy.
      6. Controlled Mass Media - Sometimes the media are directly controlled by the government, but in other cases, the media are indirectly controlled by government regulation, or sympathetic media spokespeople and executives. Censorship, especially in war time, is very common.
      7. Obsession with National Security - Fear is used as a motivational tool by the government over the masses.
      8. Religion and Government are Intertwined - Governments in fascist nations tend to use the most common religion in the nation as a tool to manipulate public opinion. Religious rhetoric and terminology is common from government leaders, even when the major tenets of the religion are diametrically opposed to the government's policies or actions.
      9. Corporate Power is Protected - The industrial and business aristocracy of a fascist nation often are the ones who put the government leaders into power, creating a mutually beneficial business/government relationship and power elite.
      10. Labor Power is Suppressed - Because the organizing power of labor is the only real threat to a fascist government, labor unions are either eliminated entirely, or are severely suppressed .
      11. Disdain for Intellectuals and the Arts - Fascist nations tend to promote and tolerate open hostility to higher education and academia. It is not uncommon for professors and other academics to be censored or even arrested. Free expression in the arts is openly attacked and governments often refuse to fund the arts.
      12. Obsession with Crime and Punishment - Under fascist regimes, the police are given almost limitless power to enforce laws. The people are often willing to overlook police abuses and even forego civil liberties in the name of patriotism. There is often a national police force with virtually unlimited power in fascist nations.
      13. Rampant Cronyism and Corruption - Fascist regimes almost always are governed by groups of friends and associates who appoint each other to government positions and use governmental power and authority to protect their friends from accountability. It is not uncommon in fascist regimes for national resources and even treasures to be appropriated or even outright stolen by government leaders.
      14. Fraudulent Elections - Sometimes elections in fascist nations are a complete sham. Other times elections are manipulated by smear campaigns against or even assassination of opposition candidates, use of legislation to control voting numbers or political district boundaries, and manipulation of the media. Fascist nations also typically use their judiciaries to manipulate or control elections.

Conservatism was never supposed to be regressive. It was never supposed to be anti progress. IMO true conservatism, in the Burke-ian sense of the word, was about caution. It was about slowing down. Looking before you leap.
A real conservative would look at someone wearing a "Move fast and break things" t shirt and ask them to pay attention to the things that might break. Because some of those things took centuries and a whole lot of blood, sweat and tears to build. Hell, by that definition, I'd say a lot of the people watching this channel (me included) are conservatives!
The GOP is conservative in name only. What they are, what they really are, is theocratic fascists.

@@rachelpontillas5901 No, they aren't. You can claim that all you like, but reality disagrees.
What you described has a word: egalitarian. I am one.
      Feminists are not.
Feminists are interested in raising up women, not equality of sexes/genders.
This includes putting women ahead of men, pushing for an equal number of women in places where the inequal numbers might be explained by differences in gender, and in solving problems that they can't demonstrate exist, like the "gender wage gap" which doesn't take into account what kind of fields men and women enter and _want_ to enter.
AOC belongs to an organization that has a rule requiring that there be a minimum of 50% women on the board.
There is, so far as I can tell, no rule requiring there be a minimum of 50% men.
That's feminism, not egalitarianism. That's the difference between the two, right there.
(Note, this is not a comment on AOC in any way. I was curious about the organization and I found this rule irritating. Also, I might be slightly misrepresenting the rule, but the concept is there. Minimums for some people who are not men, and none for men.)
Here's another. I've heard multiple times that we need more women in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) fields.
      Why?
I mean, if women want to be in STEM, they should be allowed, and they shouldn't feel uncomfortable or discouraged. I'm all for that.
I am _not_ for pushing for women to be in STEM simply because there's an inequality of genders in STEM... unless or until someone can demonstrate that an equal number of women want to _be_ in STEM.

In 1962, there was a free community college within a few miles of many people's homes--indeed, having one was a serious plus for property values. Thank about it. How much further ahead we might be if we indeed invest our tax dollars to "make America great again" or "build back better"--I don't honestly care what it's called, just DO IT already so we can get on with our lives.
