Same here but i always played virus with a friend until all npcs were infected then we had our last stand on the plattform at the edge of the map. Good times
had this on my ipod touch when I was little, this game introduced me to so many music genres. still hits. if you like this you might enjoy Ruiner by Bignic, similar relentless industrial vibe, and also OST from an obscure awesome game.
The strategy is to simply ignore them and use both the speed power ups around the center of the map to capture all the bags you can...plus dodge their fire.

80% of our multiplayer was on this map with remote mines only. Great map. Awesome music.
Rockets too. I enjoyed shooting the moon(?) Cause the missiles would actually make contact eventually
