- A D-Day veteran was surrounded by love as he traveled with his family to Normandy to pay tribute to his fallen comrades in arms. Frank DeVita and dozens of family members and friends traveled to the French beach for the 75th anniversary of the battle that shifted the course of World War II. The New Jersey native, who was a gunner’s mate 3rd class on the USS Samuel Chase, said he still has vivid memories of the battle. He was 19 at the time and brought troops to the beach. #InsideEdition
The story about the kid, really got me. It’s very very sad, made me cry.
Same I can't imagine good bless you
Yea got tear eyed. So terrifying.
A good number who fought just wanted to be with their families.
And sadly, this happening is a fairly common occurrence from many testimonials of war veterans.
They really were kids that’s the sad part. Most were 19-22 years old.
He was a true hero
I started crying thinking about that boy who wanted his mom during his death😥
He is not a boy he is a MAN much better one than you and i will ever be.
@Trend101Warrior given what was at stake, I probably would have too. I'm 18 now, but still
Puking Dino Thank you for your comment and service, sir
*HIS MOM SHOULD HAVE TAUGHT HIM NOT TO ENLIST*
@@SUGAR_XYLER Dont think they had a choice back then.
“Treated *LIKE* a hero.”

It's just a shame what they have to go through to become that.
Nice comment but I suppose he'll beg to differ❤
Grandad died in Normandy this made me cry
Joe Bartholomew your grandad is a hero.
My granddad lived but died after the war in a boat accident in James bay his body was never found.
God bless your grandad he gave his life so that America was free God bless him and hope you feel alright
My great uncle did as well, Rip to all those who have fallen.
Same
He looks REALLY good for being that old. Holy cow what a man. Coming from a military family, this is hard to hear.
JustAlpha No way he’s 94.
@@DaciaProject Wait what?
Davin Ellicson ?
That's what I was thinking🤔
He looks like a man in his 60’s to me, woah.
I'm not even American but thank you for your service
@@DaciaProject What a petty, and unnecessarily antagonistic comment. He sees "Humans" suffering and pushing through the worst hell i can imagine. You might want to brush up on your vocab, if you're insulting someone with a word (i coldn't pick one more apt) that describes your entire attitude in comment. Just don't post, no one wants to listen to someone trying to somehow improve their 'cred' by just whining like you're on the rag.
Well, you have made my day sir.
@@DaciaProject the only stupid comment I see here is yours.
@Random Entertainment I am from an Axis power country am I a bad person?
Stalin Is Disappointed in your recent decisions No.
It's incredibly humbling to listen to the stories of men like this. So much respect to this man and every man to serve our great Nation.
Fallen or not, your service is appreciated 🙏
Especially if fallen. Just being able to move at ALL, let alone, towards the pill-box bunkers with machine guns capable of firing 1200-1500 rounds a min.
I was standing just in front of him when he told the story about the boy (You don't see it in the video but he also talked about another boy with them who was hit in the stomach, and miracurously survived). I've never really met WW2 vet before (which is why I came to Normandy) and watching him reviving those memories and crying just in front of me is a really moving and humbling experience I would never forget... Thank you Mr. Devita.
Edit : I used the word "boy" because he himself called them kids (He said "Because that what we were. Kids.")
My grandfather and his 5 brothers were all ww2 veterans. What they suffered through is unimaginable. They almost never talked their experiences until the last few years of their lives.

You can hear the pain in his voice, man its very heart breaking.
Sir, or to anyone who served in the allied forces, your work is beyond appreciated, this world would be extremely worse if not for your honorable actions those years. Thank you.
He looks like he’s 65
No he doesn’t. He looks about 80 or so
@Ryandal Gilmore
Correcting someone doesn’t mean they’re starting an argument.
Thank you frank for your serving our country and god bless you.
This man is a lot like my relatives who served at D-Day. I can't respect him or them enough.

I’m currently serving in the US Army and I would like to Thank you for your service. My great grandfather was a paratrooper in the 82nd, same as me. He passed 4 years ago, not a day I tell myself “These guys fought long and hard”
Glad I'm not the only remembering this

God bless this hero and the many sacrifices of our soldiers. Heros 🇺🇲🫡❤🤍💙
I can't even fathom going through this at the age of 19, just absolutely insane to think about
I'm from Bangladesh 🇧🇩
& I'm die hard fan of Saving Private Ryan...in the last scene literally I'm already cried when Captain Miller & sarge mike die😭
He looks remarkably fit and healthy for a man of 79 - he evidently led a good life after his dreadful experiences at Normandy . Even though you had no choice in being there , I totally respect your and your comrades Bravery
It’s sad he had to see what he saw, on that beach… I pray for his fallen friends, and his health. God bless him!
They won't be able to walk their daughters down the aisle, or be there for their grandkids graduation, But they died so you could be there for yours. Absolute heroes. Rip
I hardly cry to anything, but listening to this guy for just the first 5 seconds I teared up.
Imagine what they've been through, especially this old vet for always remembering this horrors he'd been through.
Wow. That guy Frank looks great for his age!
Right?
Yeah. I thought he was in his late 60s or early 70s. And even if he was, he still looks good.
Poor dude
i broke down when he told his story. An absolute hero and an absolute legend. They truly don’t make em like this anymore.
Respect
Thank you Mr. DeVita. I only hope at my age of 40+ now, I can ever aspire to be half the man you were at 19.
God bless you and the Greatest Generation. We owe you everything.
His line about “These kids didn’t have to die so young.” as he points to the crosses. It’s just too powerful for me
No, they didn't need to die so young. But they got on that boat, armed to their teeth, knowing what was waiting ahead.
Just like that other kid on the shore, in the bunker, armed to the teeth, knowing what was coming to the beach.
In the end, everyone is the driver of their own fate.
No one needs war.....no one needs to die that young.
I wish Americans today had an ounce of the courage and strength this man has. Godspeed
1944: You storm Omaha Beach under fire, and all your friends die.
2020: You hide in your basement because you don’t want to get sick.
Brent Torrenga People back then would’ve done the same thing if they were born today
imagine having to relive this day for 75 years. :(
I just want to hug him 😢😢 this poor man has seen stuff no one should 😢
Oh my goodness.
PTSD doesn't go away. This poor man was just a baby when he seem these things. This was real for some people.
I'm sorry my friend. I'm so so very sorry. I know how you feel darling.
I'm sure you very much sympathize with him greatly, but I reckon anyone that wasn't there, then, knows how he feels 'exactly.' Sorry if this comes off as combative, I know you meant what you said, but I can't (and would never want to) have all of the events of that day seared into your thoughts, dreams, permeating everything. The story of the dying soldier's wailing for his mother's comfort, was probably just 1 of countless equally soul-rending episodes he wintnessed. Cheers BubbleGum. Anyone who shows the empathic qualities as you do, help make people, and the world, better.
1:26 The lighting got a bit darker when it get a bit sad.
A hero and God bless him and all who served.
This is the last decade they’ll be with us, thank them while you still can
I'm the toughest guy on the planet, and I definitely felt like crying when he mentioned the guy crying for his mom 💯
You can hear the heartbreak in his voice. I just want to hug this man, say God bless you, and tell him thank you.
As a Coastguardsman serving now, we thank you for your service.
God bless this man and this generation, real heroes
I feel bad for this man he must have flashbacks to the day I really wish none of these wars ever happened
well welcome to ww3 and its gonna happend anytime now
War is hell.
Perhaps the good thing that can come from those wars is a horrifying lesson. May humanity never forget the absolute hell that was 1914-1945.
That lesson hasn’t gotten to America’s head apparently, since we continued and continue to start stupid, illegal, long, and unnecessary wars, or more accurately Police actions.
No one can fathom the terrors these men went through. God bless to all those who've served.
These veterans would turn in their Graves if they saw the current state of America.
You can blame your average Republican voter for that.
@@marcoanonymous8434 from what the world sees it exactly the opposite.
They were dropping left right and center and he kept doing his job at 19 years of age respect from canada
Why would someone even dislike this video. Thank you all for your service
Yes, *Saving Private Ryan* had so many memorable scenes. Scene I couldn't bear to watch was *Doc's (Wade) death scene* when he calls out for his mom. ua-cam.com/video/XOUJPBziUQw/v-deo.html
Yeah, a lot of those. A very real and true war story, just like so many that have never been told so well, by person, book or film.
I rarely tear up. This did it. No human should have to go through this...
Cherish your loved ones, it’s not forever. 💙
To think these men died to make America what it is today makes me sick. We dont even celebrate them like we used to America is full of woke culture it makes me sad to see the military today what ever happened to reserved for you ? I feel for these veterans and those that gave there lives
These made the ultimate sacrifice and should never be forgotten.
Wow, he looks really young for being 94!!
😥😭😭😭😭😭😭 I'm still crying for when I watched saving private Ryan I cried for 2 hours strait God bless these men who gave their lives for us I'm saluting for America 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 I'd rather remember those men who died then anyone who is a celebrity God bless these men I can't stop crying it's been two days
Yeah, me also. I knew of three+ guys in my high school class who died in Nam. I'll never forget them, and they and I were not friends. Doesn't matter. They served our country.
My father was in the 752 tank battalion of the big red one, the 1st armored division. He trained with Patton in Indio, CA. He landed in North Africa concluded in Tunis, went on to Anzio, Rome, Pisa, the Poe Valley and was at the foot of the Italian Alps at the end of the war. He had a bronze star. My mother told me when they married in 1949, he would would yell, struggle violently, and sometime try and hit or choke her in his sleep. It subsided over the coming years. He never said much about it, but I was able to get some of his story late in his life. And some precious pictures he got along the way. Such was the greatest generation.
So much pain & sacrifice.
Proper men. I have so much respect for these veterans.
Thank you kind sir for fighting for your country and risking your life.
Still shaken up 80 years later
Dear sir thanks for your service to us and your country r.i.p to all his buddys that does trying to bring him home
I would rather meet this vet than any celebrity.
This is a man that know it needed to be talked about. Talk about the men. Horning their memory. That’s passing on living history
WOW I viewed 750 th viewer WOW thanks for you service
Frank's experience on D-Day is probably the most heart wrenching to here. What I think goes through his head is that he sent those 32 men to their deaths just doing the job he was ordered to do.
War is a terrible thing
It rlly hit when he told the story abt the boy crying for help after getting a part of his head blown off
I couldn’t imagine the pain these vets live through. No one should have to live this. Those soldiers never came home after the war. They carry that in their heads for the rest of their lives.
Almost cried when he started to speak
That's a big red one on his arm. My grandfather James Hall was also 1st marines but he was PAC theater, Guadalcanal and Iwo. He earned a silver star, two purple hearts.
The chaos and carnage he described was unreal. I think Saving Private Ryan touched on it well. There's so much chaos that you can't even care for yourself, let alone someone dying who needs help. Even that number of people that need help escalates too rapidly to comprehend. Among all the other danger your brain probably shuts down, and you're strictly in animalistic survival mode.
God he looks healthy
just watched the movie, tears were shed.
Now a days people don’t understand what they had to go through to get the world like this god bless
Its really moving walking 1 by 1 looking at every cross in the cemetery. Remembering every single one had dreams, friends, a father, a mother, a career.
This guy is a true hero, thank you tor your service
LIKE a hero? Inside Edition, he is a hero.
I can’t believe the horror that he went through
God forbid we had a draft in this day and age. This country would fall like the month.
My dad did survive Guam & Saipan in WW2 as a Marine in the Pacific. His best friend was killed as an Army medic on Omaha that day. Dad lost six guys from his High Scool class in the war.
They were waiting offshore of Japan ready to invade when the bomb was dropped. Then near Nagasaki for 3 months right after. He would have turned 100 this year..Miss him so much.
Thank you Mr. DeVita for your service.
God bless that man...
Whoever disliked this video I will find you and I will... I will do something but I don’t know what I’ll do yet
This man is a war hero, being there must’ve been hell.
Thank you for your service sir
I got a bit emotional
😢😢
Poor guy. Can't imagine how awful it would be to have to remember and live with all that trauma. All sides suffered, and all sides deserve to be supported.
"3 men got off the boat" makes me feel so small
I never realize the Coast Guard played such a big role in D-Day
I did cry when he said that young man died at his feet, he did not die alone and this was horrifying. My father was a door gunner in Vietnam and my grandfather was a warrant officer on the Missouri when it was in service, my grandfather was in world war ii, Korea, and Vietnam.
When dying men cry for their moms, I can’t help but tear up. That’s the ultimate fear, and shows how these were just kids going to fight and die.
man i can't keep a straight face with his story about that kid dying in his arms, what a sad day
Yes, pray, God bless him.
Still mourning on the 78th anniversary of D-Day, may all the lives lost both enemy and Allie, Rest In Peace.
Thank You For Your Service.
Thank you for your service. If it wasn’t for the brave men who fought we would’ve been doomed. R.I.P every fallen soldier your bravery will always be remembered.
This guys is a million times stronger than those that come out the closer.
