James Allen, Martin Brundle, Mark Blundell, Jim Rosenthal, Tony Jardine and of course Murray Walker on ITV F1… this was the dream team I loved during my teen years!
The moment i becane a Kimi fan. The fact he saw the trail of oil rrom Panis' exploding engine and moved to the left and remained at full throttle while blind. Thats why hes The Iceman
Watch between 2:34 and 2:35 if you can....that was car control, skill, balance and that "talent" Raikkonen was reknown for. Just a lift and back on the throttle. Rear sliding perfectly 100% commited.
@Mitchell G You don't know what your talking about. Freeze it @2:34 & you will see half of Kimi's car is over the racing line and onto the kerb. And if you observe very very closely he's actually corrected with the slightest of opposite lock, meaning he slid all the way through that..something only Raikkonen can do at those speeds with that level of precision.
Exactly, he looks like he's actually sliding even on entry (very slightly) even before he's over the kerb, but that's the brilliance of Raikkonen, we need to freeze it to see his work. As you say @ 2:34 you can see the slight opposite lock when frozen. In real time you can barely notice it and looks like he never even backed off- just beautiful to watch. I'm no professional but that exactly how I like driving.
His engineer told him on the radio to keep left. It was not bravery or stupidity, just using his ears. People love to throw in the first idea that comes from their smooth brain smh.
You’re a douche. 200 mph into smoke trusting your radio guy, not know if there’s any debris or oil on the track. That takes stones, no way you would have done it so stfu.
@@cbrend22 @cbrend22 If there was the SLIGHTEST doubt of oil leak, than Kimi would've been told to abort the lap since we know how serious they take safety in motorsports. And ofc I cannot drive an F1 car as fast as they do because I am not trained for it. Also taking into account how CALCULATING Kimi is, it is not very sensible to call it pure bravery. Ofc bravery is involved the moment you step in the car, this case is much more of a calculated risk.
Ciaron your unbridled love of raikkonen may sometimes be misplaced, but you're doing a service to f1 fans by uploading all these old clips and I thank you for it
@@srxt6758 he has won le mans and the world championship in sportscar. pushed senna to the very end in f3 only lost by a few points if I remember correctly.

Talking about going thru the smoke at Spa. He was doing ridiculous speed, is there many places on the f1 calender when they will be going faster than on that straight? (is it the kemmel straight?) . It makes me think of Dan Wheldon (God bless him). He was as brave as anyone but, well we all know what happened. Rip.
I'm just gob smacked that only once the commentators mentioned quoted him as saying " he saw the oil line down once side of the track and went to the other side".. They should be giving him full credit as a Racer who is aware of what happening , even if there is a risk it's a lot less for someone as aware as he obviously was to notice in that situation.

Kimi how did you feel driving through the smoke?

On the onboard of Kimi you can see the oil on track and you can see that he changes sides when going through the smoke

Idc what his engineer told him, doing 200 mph through a blinding cloud of smoke takes balls
Well thats the reason why he is still one of the best. Kimi knows how to drive.
