  • Alberto Giubilini (Research Fellow, Uehiro Centre for Practical Ethics) and David Jones (Director, The Anscombe Bioethics Centre)
This unusual debate sees Alberto Guibilini and David Jones adopting the other's position on conscientious objection, arguing for the opposing view in an attempt to explore not only the subject, but the very nature of disagreement and discussion. Audience members are encouraged to explore their views on conscientious objection in the same way.

One quick observation: Healthcare is not only about "treating diseases". It also involves prevention, and it also involves the general care of a person's health, that is, his or her physical, psychological and social well being, even out of the scope of diseases.
For example a therapist might help you even if you don't have a mental disorder.
Or a doctor might help you plan and optimize your sleep schedule, your diet, your exercise regime and how you take care of your body.
