New subscriber here. I love the way you’re funnelling ranges street by street. You also seem to have a great attitude regarding tough spots and possible mistakes you make. A+ poker
I like the the 1/5 river bet bc it will if anything allow your opponent to think about bluffing. The all in sizing is crazy giving the action esp when you check back turn then 2x jam river. Small bet hope to get raised and maybe gets called light.
Vs a reg on the river in position I don't like using sizes less than 66%, and generally no less than 75%. I want to play my range, and my bluffs like using an all in size there. Plus live poker players don't bluff raise rivers
Sam, Excited to see you played 5/10 and it was not a struggle bus wreck..Lost $1K, psst education is never free and dues have been paid…Congrats for playing and wining what money cannot buy and that is experiance…..You swing into La be sure and find peace of green when leave LAX..,
What study material would you recommend for a 10bb per hour $1/3 winner looking to move to $2/5? Decently experienced with solvers and such. Would love to shift my thinking more towards how you think through each hand.
I use Upswing Poker, a lot of my thought process is intuition, I just remove parts of my opponent's range based solely on presumptions/how I've seen them play other hands.
Too tough to know what the correct play is, you'd have to node lock on piosolver, and make giant assumptions about your opponent's range, especially when they vary their raise size a lot, it makes figuring it out difficult. I don't minimize my living expenses, I book nicer airbnbs and eat out 2-3x a day
Sam, on the A10 hand in the 4 bet pot would you still go 66% on a river brick? Are there any rivers you’re checking back? Assuming you plan on calling a river bet to reasonable sizing if it’s a brick instead of a 10?
If the river is a complete brick, I'm happy to just check this back and get it to showdown, we're not getting value from worse, and will likely value own ourselves too frequently to be a +EV bet. If opponent leads the river it depends on sizing, I'd either be folding, or turning my hand into an all in bluff. On club rivers I'd turn my hand into a bluff and overbet shove.
Hey Sam, been following you for a few months now since you are from Vancouver. I just wanted to say that sometimes making a small bet isn’t always about trying to sneak a few extra dollars from someone, but it also gives an opportunity for your opponent to bluff. Specifically in your AA hand you mention on the river about having to go all-in to try and maximize your equity, but this is very linear thinking. You were correct to assume your opponent doesnt have much, so why go all-in? Sure you maybe get a hero card from very specific hands but the range of those hands is very narrow. I think you were better off with a 1/3 or 1/4 size bet and hope for a bluff raise. Even if you disagree with that line, I’m not sure you even considered it. Anyways, best of luck and look forward to the next video.
I've seen a river bluff raise maybe once in my 650 hours of live poker, as much as I'd love to induce a raise, I just don't see it happening. Big bets also means I can bluff a lot more frequently which I do enjoy doing from time to time. Vs regs, I try not to get any lower than 66% OTR in position.
Sam be careful my guy. You have been going up in stakes like crazy! Just a few videos ago you were playing 1/2 now 5/10!!! Keep up the good work but don’t forget about your bankroll management
@@logansmith4690It's a time-raked game. It's probably a very marginal open. Also he can also open very wide from the button, especially if he believes Sam isn't 3-betting a polarized range in the BB vs BU. I feel that is very true in live poker.
Just so you know, his lead on that board was strategic because it effectively blocks most of your higher flushes. The only higher flushes in your range are Q9, which he blocks, and Axhh, which both he and the board block. You do have several middling flushes in the HJ. While I'm not certain if he considered all this, it was an excellent play on his part. I wanted to mention this because you later said that he would always lead out with his flushes, but that's not necessarily true in this case due to how the board interacts with the flushes in your range.
Idk if I like the lead with a hand as strong as a flush, like you said it blocks a ton of my continue range, and even a hand as strong as 2 pair can just be sent straight into the muck. I do have a lot of nut flushes here though.

What do you use to study spots to know what the correct play is?
Also, any advice to how to minimize living expenses while on the road?
