My dad knew Super Mario World like the back of his hand. As I played it, he would point out all the secrets and clues hidden throughout the game. It really shows how much of an impact these games had on his generation, they were a massive part of many people's childhoods, and I'm lucky they were also part of mine
Just a perspective of someone who was around in the 80s when the US Super Mario 2 came out. No one really felt like something was off with it. It was just as common for a sequel to have completely different game feel (look at Zelda 2 for example) as it was for a sequel to be a quick level pack/asset flip. So, no it just felt normal really.
It's also worth noting that, ironically, Doki Doki Panic started its development as Super Mario 2. Nintendo really was just trying crazy stuff back then.
I played the original Mario NES games on virtual console as a kid, and before I knew the Doki Doki Panic story I just assumed Nintendo experimented with something different for the sequel. The "Mario formula" wasn't established at that point.
Street Fighter 2, Sly Cooper 2, Metroid Prime, Yakuza: Like a Dragon, Kid Icarus: Uprising, Castlevania: Symphony of the night, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time AND Breath of the Wild. Some of the most loved games in history have come out of a total change of mechanics.
SMB2 is only really weird in retrospect because most of the games play like SMB1. If all the games after had picking up enemies and other SMB2 stuff as main mechanics, then everyone would think SMB1 was weird.
This order makes sense to anyone approaching these games today but back in the NES days after only playing the first game, Super Mario Bros 2 was incredible. Just the fact you had multiple characters, could go in doors and pick things up, levels that scrolled vertically as well as horizontally, the fact it was less linear, the mystery of it all. Everything felt like an expansion on the first game...of course as soon as I played SMB3 it took it to another level but still after all these years I cannot consider SMB2 anything less than a classic. The Lost Levels was more like SMB1 DLC and personally I loved that too.
@@shiver8082it's not underrated, we just aren't caveman gamers anymore. Judging the game as history might provide it a better rating but from unbiased video game standards, it was meh. Just a reskin pretending to be Mario
Y'know, I think another reason Super Mario Run is extremely low (asides from being a mobile game that many people probably glossed over) is that the full game is only available for people who paid to unlock the other 6 worlds and extra features not available right from the get-go. I feel a lot of people react negatively to having to pay microtransactions in a free-to-download game with it dangling the rest of the content in front of you, but are fine with paying for the app upfront if it means getting the full experience
I dunno, to me it didn't feel like a microtransaction fest. The game really only asks you to pay once, so the whole thing feels more like a "demo before purchase" instead.
Yeah, getting a Mario game for free is really nice plus it being in your phone, since we have it on us most of the time and could help with time killing on a bus, and after getting the game it feels WAY too simple. Mobile games for Mario are hard because using Joysticks for movement on a phone is really bad since it takes up space, and if you just make him move by himself and jumping by tapping the screen, it kind of feel like the player has very little action because even if the game has different mechanics than jumping like backwards jumping, hanging, wall jumping, etc. youre still just tapping the screen. After expiriencing that you get the sad pop-up of you needing to buy the game, so it isnt necesarily bad, but it breaks the news that it was (indirectly) free.
@@RickWhitechest for me I was kind of happy since it was a "free game" and after playing I got the notification that it had to be paid, and all that time I thought it was free.
Mario 2 didn't feel off until we had Mario 3. We just thought each sequel was going to be quite different from the last. But then Mario 3 and then Super Mario World all had a bit of a unified aesthetic.
I totally agree. I used to play Mario 2 at my friend's house for who knows how many hours, before Mario 3 ever came out. It wasn't weird to us, it was just the next Mario game, with a bunch of new stuff. I loved it.
Same! I put out the survey before I saw that video, so I was really happy that we lined up very closely on our "what counts as a Mario game" opinions!! The only difference was that I included Mario Run, which I kind of only included to see how low people would rate it :p
The best part of SMO for me is the movement. It's so complex it's actually crazy, with all these different jumps, wall-jumps and cap-jumps that can let you get to crazy places in crazy ways. It just feels amazing to have all these options you can string together as opposed to mostly just a run button and a jump or two.
Yeah, after playing the game, I left it for a while. I then discovered crazy things people were doing with Mario and Cappy, and it opened my eyes from tunnel vision and I discovered a bunch of new combos other than jump, throw cappy and jump in him. Its so amazing how your awareness, timing and movement can come together so beatifully. When people say that adding double jumps is lazy, I think SMO is one of the best examples of proving it false. Nintendo is improving so much with their games and its outstanding... just wish Sonic had better luck with Sega lol (no fr, Sonic had so much potential...)
Definitely agree. I don't think it deserves the top spot here for the overall game, but Mario feels better to control in Odyssey than in any other game by a landslide. I'm really hoping they follow it up with a sequel that pushes his mechanics further with more complex levels.
Mario may feel fun to control in Odyssey and some cap captures may be fun or funny, but the game's core loop of slogging through MOUNTAINS of filler moons just to smack underwhelming world bosses until you finally get to the end puts the game lower for me than American Super Mario Bros. 2 I'd take a Galaxy 1 or 2 ten times over before going through that again.
As a person who was in the 80s I can tell you nobody thought there was something off about SMB2 because there was no established Mario feel. There had only been one game. And SMB 1 had been pretty different from the other Mario appearances to that point, such as NES Tennis, Wrecking Crew, or Donkey Kong.
I think it's safe to say most people thought it was a weird turn and wished it had been more like SMB 1. I wasn't coming up with a conspiracy theory of it being some other game being reskinned as a Mario game, but when I heard about that it made all kinds of sense to me. But you make a fair point. Before Mario 3 came out and was more of a return to a Mario 1 feel, for all we knew each Mario game would be radically different/innovative.
Yeah SMB2 was just another Mario game. I was there, can confirm. It was only really in the 00's and the internet really shining the light on that game as being a bit 'weird'. In the 80s and 90s it was completely accepted as a legit Mario game. And in my opinion, it still is. The whole 'SMB2 not being a proper Mario game' thing is a bit of a revisionist take on history. For us kids, it was Mario. It introduced a heap of mechanics (for instance, Mario holding onto things and throwing them) and brought in multiple new characters into the Mario universe who are now staples of the franchise too (the most notable ones being Shy Guy, Fuzzies and Pokies, as well as the option to select from four hero characters not just Mario). And the music was excellent. SMB2 was awesome.
@@kentmartin9289 Mario 3 was the biggest departure of all... The power ups, the strange worlds with all sorts of new enemies, the inventory, the overworld map, the framing device of the whole thing being a play... that was a weird game.
@@yawnberg but SMB 3 felt like a progression from SMB 1. It was still a side scrolling platformer where you play as Mario and break bricks and hit ? cubes for power ups. Collect 100 coins for an extra life, you have small Mario, big Mario, fire power Mario, gumbas, the same main villain, etc. SMB 2 you chose which character to play as and they had different characteristics, you were pulling stuff up from the ground instead of breaking blocks. Isn't there a health system in SMB2 also? So there were lots of innovations in SMB3, but it felt like a sequal to SMB1. SMB2 always felt like a huge departure, even before SMB3 came out. At the time I passed it off as bold choices that didn't pay off very well.
My heart almost dropped when I heard the Bianco Hills theme playing at number 18, thank goodness Sunshine wasnt ranked that low. You really tricked me with the music 😂
True I don't think there is truly a "bad" main series Mario game. Personally while lost levels is my least favorite and more frustrating than fun, it's more of a personal thing as it's definitely not my type of Mario game.
@RevolvingWorld that's why the U.S got the mario 2 that we got hah..the lost levels was supermario2 in Japan. We got a totally different game. Its actually a game called "doki doki panic" but they changed the character skins to mario characters lol
@@revolvingworld2676i agree honestly especially with what you said about lost levels like it’s not even a fun difficulty either it’s more just repetitive bs
Doesn't even matter how old they are galaxy and galaxy 2 are in no regards better then 64 for odyssey there could be made a point if its as good but the other two never ever
I'm assuming most of the people who chose the older mario games never played the new ones, and vice versa, so they just choose the best ones out of the ones they played. Which kind of makes this sort of poll hard to gauge because most people havent played every single game on the list. For me personally the most recent game I've played on the list is sunshine lol.
Feels like most people werent able to vote on the first few games as they are too darn old. The oldest Mario game I have ever played is new super mario bros 1, and I have very few memories of it.
I like how looking at the results of the test can tell you about who took the quiz. It was probably people in their early to mid twenties, seeing as the highest voted games are from the wii era and the most recent game.
@@johmami4825 they are very good games, but I think someone born in the 80s would remember games like Mario World and Mario 64 more fondly than Mario Galaxy or Mario Odyssey
@@ronnieyates8527 That’s true, but Mario Galaxy still holds up. I replayed the first 3 3D marios when they came to Switch a year ago, and Galaxy really is the best.
I can understand the younger generation picking Odyssey and the galaxy games, but when Mario 64 first came out, it was a brand new experience. Never before did we get an athletic platformer experience out of a 3D game, and it was amazing. The idea of Mario in 3D jumping around and exploring radically different worlds was amazing.
I think 64 is still a good game today even as someone born in 2005. I’d still pick the modern titles over it tho just cause it fits with my idea of fun.
I still remember my first fifteen minutes of the game, just walking around in circles, watching the trees and listening to the birds😊❤ and also trying to show my father how amazing it was, but he wasn't much interested😂 a lovely memory and an incredible game at the time.
A lot of younger people still have very fond memories of mario 64 from the DS remake and 3d allstars, and it definitely holds up a lot better today than Mario Sunshine imo. That being said Odyssey is basically just Mario 64 perfected. The movement is even more intuitive but also has a higher skill ceiling, and the worlds are even more brimming with secrets.
Ive never had access to new games sadly, but i used to play lots and lots of 80's and 90's games like mario bros, super mario bros, super mario bros 3, super mario world, super mario 64, yoshi island and much more
I actually kind of liked galaxy more than odyssey but both are great. Galaxy was more linear but a lot of times it felt thrilling like you're on the move and there's action everywhere unlike Odyssey's more open, chill, walking and finding things along the way.
If Mario Wonder was longer, it would be #1. But it's a short game compared to the likes of Odyssey. Mario Wonder 2 in the "Switch 2" will probably be the best Mario game of all time.
I knew the top 3 were gonna be some general combination of the Galaxy games and Odyssey. All three of them are absolutely fantastic! Nintendo really pulls out all the stops for the console they were on every single time they create a 3D game and it shows.
I’m so happy Super Mario 3d World is finally getting the praise it deserves :) I think the multiplayer is amazing in that game and I love how linear and simple it is, it doesn’t feel as overwhelming as most 3d mario games
I love and the Sunshine. I hate it only because I am REALLY bad at it 😆 like, when I had to defeat the paranah plant as an early boss, I died so many times, I could not for the life of me jump on his stomach or aim my water in his mouth. But, that said, it is a neat game and maybe one day I can finish it!
Sunshine is one of my favorite Mario games, but it undoubtedly lacks the pristine polish that other entries have had in one way or another. The seemingly random difficulty spikes in missions being the most obvious. But at it's core Sunshine is really well designed and feels so different from any other game.
Must have been a fairly young audience responding to the survey as I'm certain people in my age group would have ranked these games very differently. Also, that is a sin how poorly Super Mario 2 scored.
@@quarterzillion Lost Levels is really casual-unfriendly, a game that certainly seems like it was made for SMB1 pros. If most gamers are casuals, then it's not going to be anywhere near the top. It doesn't help, though, that this survey was likely completed mostly by younger gamers. Really stacks the deck against Lost Levels when its game engine is low tech and it's the hardest game in the series.
I’m actually quite curious to see how the games would be ranked from an older audience perspective coming from a younger consumer who only experienced the Wii and DS era. do you mind if you were to give a list here?
@@Vicky-fi3yr Having not played anything newer than Mario 64, my list would be incomplete. Of the games I've played, I would rank them as follows: 1 - Super Mario 64 2 - Super Mario 3 3 - Super Mario World 4 - Super Mario 2 5 - Super Mario 1 6 - Super Mario Land 2 (6 Golden Coins) 7 - Super Mario Lost Levels 8 - Super Mario Land And for the top 5 in this list, there's very little difference. On a different day, I may order them differently.
Agreed. In general, the newer games ranked much higher. 3D games also graded much higher. I'm 41 and there's no way I'd put Galaxy and Odyssey ahead of Mario 3 and Mario 64. Those games were legendary and groundbreaking.
Mario 3D Land being that low is a shame. I played it for the first time this year and I love it. Short and sweet levels, creative use of the 3DS' slider, and I also love the little animations between worlds of Mario looking at the letters. It doesn't come across as forgettable to me.
Great video! Would be interested in the data that wasn't directly shown here. For instance: which game got the most or least responses? Which game got the most of each category, especially if the most 1s isn't actually Run and the most 5s isn't even Odyssey (though I expect it is). Also the rest of the rankings, but particularly 3: which Mario game was the most 'meh', which is just 'one of the games ever made'?
Judging by the ratings and my own experience, I would wager that it would be the latter new soup entries. They’re perfectly good games but there’s simply nothing new in them. Enjoyable enough to play but not original or very memorable Scott the Woz made a good video about the games as well. If I were to describe them in three words it’d be bland, uninspired, enjoyable.
I don't know about the second question, but you can probably find a pretty comparable number to the amount of responses each game got by looking at the sales number of each game. And the most "meh" game was new super mario bros 2 since it had an average rating of 3.00 and the responses said stuff like it was fun, but forgettable and more of the same.
Sales numbers wouldn't be very helpful, as the amount of survey responses are inevitably going to be skewed towards the newest games and by the age of the average viewerbase of the channel. I'd wager Sunshine or NSMB DS onwards had more players and thus would have significantly more responses because the folks that grew up with that generation of mario are probably the people drawn in by the channel (assuming the instructions to not respond on games that weren't played were followed)
Watching people play Odyssey, so many get emotional at the big musical number. It has a feeling of grandeur and pure love for the series, a big moment of fun and adventure. I really hope they're considering a sequel! We loved that game!
@@master106 I respect your opinion even though I disagree. I understand that people have different taste in games and that a very popular and good considered game might be horrible for somebody.
Odyssey is good, but the game have a lot of missed potential (Cloud Kingdom, Ruined Kingdom, etc). Also, It's just so easy to have the number required of Moon to finish the game, because there is too much of them lol.
I really liked that the title is about "least popular mario game" and you started at the bottom of the list answering the question immediately :) capitalized on a negative title, and followed through instantly
I loved Super Mario Odyssey, the art direction and visuals are amazing, the controls super clean, and the music is bombastic and really suits each area you go to. However, the first Galaxy game will always stick with me. Especially the music, some of the tracks have this quiet sadness that is really great when you feel alone.
It’s amazing how galaxy can nail the music, level design and graphics so perfectly, yet fuck up the movement so much that I would unironucally give it a 5/10. Talking about missed potential right here.
@HarambaeXelonmuskfans no, I might still be bad, like there was one time I fell of a bridge because even moving straight is fucking hard, but in my opinion, Mario games shouldn’t be hard because you have to go out of your way to make sure you are moving straight forward or because it feels there’s a whole ass second between pressing A and actually jumping. They should be hard because the levels are hard and the controls are there to keep you having fun. Just look at Luigi U, sure the controls might be a bit slippery but the controls feel respinsive, if you want to make a triple jump you can do it on your first try, if you want to turn around you will do that, even if it takes a bit longer than avarage it still consistently takes the same amount of time to do so, but the game is still hard because of the levels and time limit. Also, I really don’t like how the wii joystick controller feels in my mouth I mean hands
Mario Galaxy 2 holds the candle for me. I adore the first game's atmosphere but it felt to me like the devs had a stronger grasp on the gameplay which resulted in more memorable and fun levels. Yoshi was a ton of fun too :)
@@TechTchno I think he is making something up. As far as I know, Galaxy 2 wasnt in 3D all stars purely because Nintendo either forgot about it, or didnt want to package 4 games into it. Maybe technical limitations, but I doubt it. Galaxy 2 was made because of how enjoyable Galaxy 1 was, even to the point where they didnt bother with a new story, and just repackaged the old one with a new spin. The devs clearly had fun with it, because they just wanted to remake the game right after release.

I think the release of Odyssey really helped everyone (including myself) really see the charm of 3D world. As someone who lived through the great Wii U drought after being spoiled by the Wii, I probably would’ve ranked 3D World out of the top 10 when it first came out in 2013. It’s no easy feat to follow up on Galaxy 1 & 2, and everyone was experiencing a bit of Mario fatigue at the time. 3D world was the 6th main-line Mario game in the span of 4 years (2009-2013)
This is so true. It came right after NSMB2, NSMBU and Paper Mario: Sticker Star, all of which were uninspired and derivative. We were all fatigued by the same art style, the same powerups, the same structure, the same... lack of anything new. 3D World also didn't bring much new to the table, especially on the surface, so was quickly overlooked. But it really is amazing at what it's trying to do, which is traditional linear obstacle courses.
the galaxy series was one of the biggest parts of my adolescence. i remember the feeling of waking up on a saturday morning with only having plans to play super mario galaxy all day. the starship in the first game always felt like a second home to me.

Galaxy takes it for me. And you bet nostalgia has a part in it. Every single model, object, or anything in that game reminds me of a simpler time. Coming home after school and gaming out in galaxy. Dying like 500 times, but still loving every moment. If I see footage from that game enough, you bet I’m crying.
anytime i tell someone galaxy is my favorite mario game and one of my favorite games of all time i have to preface it by saying that it's 80% nostalgia
@@salemisjuucy Idk man, I grew up with 64 and Sunshine as the ones I played the most and I'd still put Galaxy above both of them. The only thing I didn't like about Odyssey was the camera movements giving me slight motion sickness, but that doesn't take away too much from the joy I felt while playing it overall. You can really tell how much love and creativity went into every aspect of it. Edit: In hindsight, I think I moved the camera around manually way too much when playing. So the motion sickness was pretty much entirely on me.
I personally never found anything wrong with Odyssey's camera. Galaxy on the other hand... it's a near-perfect game but sometimes the camera can be absolutely nauseating

Mario Land 2 being that low feels criminal. I honestly find it to be a contender for the best 2D Mario alongside World and SMB3. And you can't go wrong with the game that brought us Wario. SMB2 being low is also weird, it's still a perfectly fine game even if it feels like another beast due to being a reskinned Doki Doki Panic(which was made using a Mario prototype anyway). -Lost Levels is right where it deserves though, maybe even a little too high- My personal favorites are the Galaxy games(2 and then 1) followed by 3D World, so I'm happy with their placement here. Mario games have story? I thought it was just "ooga booga man have hot girlfriend" "hot girlfriend captured" "ooga booga man mad" "ooga booga go rescue"
I think the reasoning behind Lost Levels' baffling level design was that many of the levels were designed around the difficulty of an arcade game- several of them were designed for Vs. Super Mario Bros (an arcade version of SMB1) then ported over into Lost Levels afterwards since Nintendo wanted you to be able to experience these new levels at home, even though at its core Vs. SMB1 was still SMB1 but with less repeated stages.
I always take a little issue with the most recent entry topping lists like these (recency bias), but by the same token I do think Odyssey is one of the best, so I'm not that mad. Also, I know it was sort of an add-on to the 3D World Switch port, and I don't know if it would qualify as a "mainline" Mario game, but I would have been curious to see where Bowser's Fury placed. That game is really clever and interesting, and I think whatever Mario game we end up with next will take a lot of inspiration from that game (I think it was a bit of a test). It proved that open world Mario works (as opposed to open area Mario like 64, Sunshine, Odyssey, etc.), and there's a lot of potential for a full-scale game of that style.
To be honest with you. I think you’re biased to Galaxy because it is widely praised. Mario Odyssey is a far more enjoyable experience (compared to the gimmick filled Mario Galaxy), because of how seem-less the gameplay is to pick up and just enjoy each nook and cranny. Mario Galaxy will never be my favorite Mario game, in fact, it will never really be able to uphold the status of what a regular Mario game should be. Mario Galaxy is a wonderful beast in its own, and that series deserves to stay that way. Fun, but yet an outdated trend from Mario’s past that people still haven’t moved past. It will never be horrible or undeserving, in fact it is still quite amazing, but it will surely go down as one of my least favorite entrees whenever people decide to bash Odyssey or 3D World for going back to what made 3D Mario games nearly flawless. Galaxy embodies what Mario needs once in a while, a game separate from the norm. It is perfectly executed as a game that should stand off on its own sub series, but people need to stop glorifying it, because it will just create unrealistic and unfair opinions.
Very different for sure. Rescuing different characters to play as with the power ups. Starting with Yoshi as the starter character while rescuing Mario, Luigi, and Wario to continue completing every level.
My opinion: Nice game, great music and a manageable difficulty … until the FINAL LEVEL, where it is an extreme increase in difficulty which I could only beat with save states (I played on 3DS Virtual Console).
I know I'm in the minority here but Sunshine has always been my favorite 3D Mario. I got it about a week after it came out and have sooo many good memories of it. Played through it again when 3D All Stars came out and it was still my favorite, I really thought Odyssey was gonna beat it to me, but nope.
odyssey depressed me so i went back to sunshine and I found it's one of the few games actually like as an adult even more than as a kid, aesthetically it's just so great and has so much soul, plus controlling mario feels so goddamn silky

Belief in Messiah alone is not enough to get you into heaven - Matthew 7:21-23, John 3:3, John 3:36 (ESV is the best translation for John 3:36). Contemplate how the Roman empire fulfilled the role of the beast from the sea in Revelation 13. Revelation 17 confirms that it is in fact Rome. From this we can conclude that A) Jesus is the Son of God and can predict the future or make it happen, B) The world leaders/nations/governments etc have been conspiring together for the last 3000+ years to accomplish the religion of the Israelites C) History as we know it is fake. You don't really need to speculate though because you can start a relationship with God and have proof. Once the last Western Roman Emperor was removed from power in 476 AD, the Pope was given civil and ecclesiastic authority over Rome; healing the deadly head wound of the beast in Revelation 13, as they took the Emperors title of Pontifex Maximus, leader of the church and state. “We may according to the fullness of our power, dispose of the law and dispense above the law. Those whom the Pope of Rome doth separate, it is not a man that separates them but God. Pope Leo XIII declared, “We hold upon this earth the place of God Almighty.” (Source: Pope Leo XIII Encyclical Letter, June 20, 1894) The antichrist sea beast of Revelation points to the office of the papacy, the Popes of Rome, who controlled the Roman beast for 1,260 years, from 538-1798 AD. They reigned for 1,260 years, from 538-1798 AD. during which they caused tens of millions of saints to be killed. I love challenging games, and I really want to see a poll on which mario game is the hardest. Including all mario games, like mario maker, all of yoshi’s island, all mario rpg games like superstar saga (which I found really hard), and even obscurities like mario is missing, dr. mario, mario tennis, etc. And I’d love to see where other games including mario end up in the list too, like mario kart, smash bros and mario party.
Ngl, I MAY have rage deleted Mario Rush. One of my favorite parts of the Mario platforming games is the ability to either rush through or take your time and go back. Mario Rush felt like it punished me for missing a collectible simply by mistiming a jump, forcing me to restart and just hope I get the jump right. Eh, what do I know? Probably a skill issue.
It plays very differently, yes, but Super Mario Run (the game I assume you're referring to) requires a different mindset to play. It's designed to be played with one hand, but one can put extra focus on the game with two. It's more of a rhythmic timing kind of game. It's quite satisfying to pull the jumping combos the game intends you to pull off if you can figure them out!
I wonder how much Mario odysseys popularity here is recency bias. Don't get me wrong, it might be my favorite Mario game of all time but it's surprising that Galaxy didn't edge it out. My personal favorite though has to be Mario 64 because of the freeform movement and deep mechanics as well as the game structure itself being so infinitely replayable. Aged game but still a blast to play every time.
But Super Mario Odyssey lacks Nostalgia from childhood. Nostalgia is a massive bias that can hide massive flaws in games. I am surprised super mario odyssey won. I think if this video was done 2 years ago it wouldn't of won due to the game growing on people and them realising how good it really is.
To me, playing Super Mario Odyssey created a feeling in me like I used to get playing new games as a child. I grew up with the Mega Drive and PS1, so interactivity with the environment was limited at best. But I would always try stuff out. "What if I hit this tree with this fire ability?" "What if I jump up onto that high rock?" Super Mario Odyssey actually rewards so much of this silly little fooling around with the odd coin here and there, and it's always a joy to think of something to then find out the developers were thinking about it too.
@AndrewWithEase11 11 Yeah, I hated odyssey. Felt weird compared to the other games and collecting moons got old quick. I try not to compare it to 64 but it’s hard not to, seeing as how I think the creator considered it the “spiritual sequel” to 64 or something.
5:42 when I heard “inside the castle walls” song I was like there is NO way Mario 64 even the ds version would score this low but was relieved when it wasn’t
Not including Bowser's Fury as an option here is an absolute sin, it's one of the freshest and most joy filled Mario games we've had in years and people forget about it because it was bundled with 3D World on Switch.
Bowser's Fury was great and enjoyable, and I haven't forgotten about it, but it's far from the most enjoyable to me. Ever since I 100% the game in February of last year, I haven't felt the need to return to it since, and haven't touched it once. The gameplay is fun, but there's not much to see, and barely anything to come back to. I like what it seeks to accomplish, but it could've been accomplished better. Also Fury Bowser is great in theory, but falls apart in practice. it just works to add time management to the game. (or waste your time if you have nothing else to do and don't have a bowser Amiibo out.) I'm not complaining about it because I'm too dumb to understand it or anything, it can just get annoying at times and would've been a better, more fun experience without it. (or if it was handled differently.) These are all just nitpicks, though. It's still a good experience beginning to end. there's just no reason for me to go back to it. (ME specifically, if this is your single favorite Mario experience of all time, that's valid, I just have no personal reason to return to it.)
@@jonathanwest8415 Oh yeah I’m not saying it was the greatest Mario game ever made, just that it deserves a spot on this list like any of the others. It’s a stand alone title that flew under the radar here.
@@mweeee It’s a small campaign, yes, but it’s so wildly different from 3D World that I consider it to be its own game. It’s got it’s own equally sized spot on the main menu, so I feel like Nintendo wanted to push it as a “two in one” package with each game standing on its own.
I refuse to count Super Mario Run as a "mainline" mario game and as such will consider Lost Levels as the *real* unpopular game according to your survey. I like that you covered everything in the video instead of just the first and last. Looks good
I love these survey videos, but I do have one suggestion. Could you start saying a couple of the negative reviews on the more popular games? I'd love to hear what few negative things people had to say about the highest rated games. Edit: this wasn't meant to be an excuse to nitpick Mario Odyssey in the comments. I don't care about everything that made you dislike the game. I wanted to know what the negative three-word responses were to the most popular games, not just Mario Odyssey. Please stop complaining about the game in the replies.
i can give you a review of oddyssey: i hate it. sure, objectively, it's good. the movement is good and all. my problem is the same as with most of the switch. the music. i DESPISE jump up super star, i'd rather listen to the crazy bus menu theme. and it lacks smth i need, motivation to do stuff. yes, i'm a massive downer
I'll give another negative odyssey review! obnoxious, repetitive, condescending, infuriating, grating I had to mute the game often because the music was so annoying. awful. horrible. But the story, characters, settings, graphics, movement, it was all actively miserable
Another negative review: Cappy never shuts the hell up and gets annoying really fast, and the game lacks a good story. Some kingdoms like cloud and ruined also had huge missed potential with just a few power moons in each kingdom
My biggest problem with odyssey is that moons feel worthless. The game rewards you for talking to an NPC, for doing a single ground pound over a specific spot, for carrying a seed across a huge featureless desert, for buying them in a shop, and even for kicking a literal rock. This makes moons not feel like a reward at all. I prefer games like Galaxy where your goal is clear: a shiny golden star, all the way off in the distance, and now it’s up to you to get there, overcoming any and all obstacles on your path. In odyssey, I never feel like I’m working towards something, and as a result I don’t feel any sense of achievement when the game throws me a moon. This isn’t helped by how easy the game is overall, all the little platforming rooms are really short, and outside those rooms the overworld doesn’t integrate platforming into it very much.
I'm hoping you do more survey videos in the future. Even though I usually have only played a handful of them for each series, it's fun to see what other people's opinions are. I think another good topic might be what is the best Pokemon game or the best Sonic game.
yeah, I think best Pokemon game is inevitable since recently he's done quite a few Pokemon videos though I'd say to wait for Scarlet and Violet to come out first, since it'll be great for them to be part of the ranking as well!
This world is rapidly passing away and I hope that you repent and take time to change before all out disaster occurs! Belief in messiah alone is not enough to grant you salvation - Matthew 7:21-23, John 3:3, John 3:36 (ESV is the best translation for John 3:36) if you believed in Messiah you would be following His commands as best as you could. If you are not a follower of Messiah I would highly recommend becoming one. Call on the name of Jesus and pray for Him to intervene in your life - Revelation 3:20. Contemplate how the Roman Empire fulfilled the role of the beast from the sea in Revelation 13 over the course of 1260+ years. Revelation 17 confirms that the beast is in fact Rome. From this we can conclude that A) Jesus is the Son of God and can predict the future or make it happen, B) The world leaders/nations/governments etc have been conspiring together for the last 3000+ years going back to Babylon and before, C) History as we know it is fake. You don't really need to speculate once you start a relationship with God. Can't get a response from God? Fasting can help increase your perception and prayer can help initiate events. God will ignore you if your prayer does not align with His purpose (James 4:3) or if you are approaching Him when "unclean" (Isaiah 1:15, Isaiah 59:2, Micah 3:4). Stop eating food sacrificed to idols (McDonald's, Wendy's etc) stop glorifying yourself on social media or making other images of yourself (Second Commandment), stop gossiping about other people, stop watching obscene content etc. Have a blessed day!
Mario 3D Land is great ! I think it really managed to capture that feeling of exploration that the original games had. So many secret zones to find, so many replayability and references. The Zelda reference in the sand dungeon level, the Mario Bros 3 music remixes, the Mario Bros 1 pixel art levels, the 3 crowns (or 1110 lives), the cutscene before the World 8 Bowser Fight, which is a reference to Petey Pirhana's intro in Sunshine. And if you want to 100% this game, you have to know what you're doing. You can unlock stars by doing various stuff in the game (like reaching the 1110 lives), but these stars can become shiny stars if you never make the white Tanuki suit appear (lose less than 5 lives per level). If you don't know that, it's easy to make the 100% completion impossible to reach. Also I saw you showed the Giana sisters when speaking about Mario Bros ripoffs. The Giana sisters have become their own series, and they have a lot of potential, like giving a more important role to girls than they'll ever have in mainline Mario games. Do they use this potential ? Eh not really, but it's there, and if I could, I'd make a Giana sisters fangame, but nobody cares about me and my ideas anyway so that ain't happening.
I own Galaxy 1 and 2 and can't be bothered to play too much. The pace is always broken when you're sent back to the slow moving overworlds and have to sit through some text before you have to walk back to where you were and load up the next level. It's in that in between time where I lose attention.
Mario Galaxy 2, as the first Mario game I ever played, holds a special place in my heart, as well as already being a fantastic game. I'm glad to see it placed pretty high!
Apart from mariokart wii mario galaxy 2 was the first game I played as well, I prefer it to one cause instead of the dramatic orchestral music its a lot more "mysterious" with its wobbly space sounds
@@lyrahaltechtjetzt I disagree. The first one is definitely more memorable in both its story and its galaxies. Galaxy 2 is missing a lot of the charm that the first one had
@@300bottles2 I think that the Gameplay is better in SMG2. In the first part, the gameplay feels weird and slow sometimes. But this is ok, opinions are of course different.
@@lyrahaltechtjetzt I felt the bosses of Galaxy 2 were lacking though, especially when compared to King Kaliente, Megaleg, Bouldergeist, Dino Piranha, and Kingfin (I know some of those are in Galaxy 2 in the Boss Blitz Galaxy, but I'm only really gonna count Galaxy 2's original boss fights. Ripping them straight from 1 is cheating). Even the final boss of Galaxy 1 I feel is a lot more fun to play than Galaxy 2. Sorry, just needed to get that out
3D World is the best Mario game I have played. At the end it can get extremely challenging. It is just overall the most fun. I would love to see a sequel in the series to bring new and old power ups to the game. It is also the game that gave us Captain Toad mini games. I absolutely loved those mini games and so glad that Nintendo brought a full game out.
Yeah. As a teen and child, 3d world had a huge impact on my life. I can agree that the galaxy games are more creative, but 3d world is more fun to me. Also I think the big band music suits Mario better than orchestra. This was proven in oddessy.
Its more appreciated than it was but its still very underrated. Its my 3rd fav after odyssey and galaxy. As far as classic mario level design goes its second to none. The creativity w the cherry power up, truly peak 2d/2.5d mario.
Galaxy 2 was my game. Yes I've now played Galaxy, yes it's good, fantastic and awe inspiring even, yes I still like Galaxy 2 better. Galaxy 2 just has a different feel to me, a little more polish here, different mechanics there. I adore the game. As for 2D mario? Super Mario World deserves the spot it got. Sad that Mario land 2 ranks so low but I guess less people have played it (heck I first played it through an emulator on my calculator)
yeah, Lost Levels made me realize i'm actually pretty good on gaming skill compared to the average gamer considering Nintendo itself gave you a medal for beating it back on 1993 i think
Galaxy will always be my favourite. Just hearing about that game brings tears to my eyes, which is remarkable for a platformer. What a beautiful, wonderful adventure.
I’ve scrolled through the comments quite a bit and haven’t seen a mention for super Mario sunshine. Now I’m not a gamer myself but I grew up watching my older brother play it and watching gameplays on UA-cam for it. Despite me not playing it, it became one of my favorites. I know the music like the back of my hand for each course and know where to go for each mission and what to do. I love each world that the game gave.
I'm not all that into Mario but I still remember fighting Mechawiggler in Odyssey with one of my cousins as Cappy, it was probably the most fun I've had in the game.
I love how the game's just teeming with secrets. Every time you think you're done there's something else that surprises you. Like when you end up in new donk city, but then are shocked to then go to the moon, and then finally unlock the dark side of the moon. Even then there's still so many moons you'll never have noticed like the hidden taxis in the sky
I feel the opposite. 1-5 is too many options for a lot of people. One of the reasons why UA-cam went from a 1-5 star rating to Thumbs Up/Thumbs Down was because too many people defaulted to 1s and 5s while rarely using the intermediate values. That just gets worse when you add more options; like really, what's the difference between a 3 and a 4 on a 1-10 scale? You're already saying it's below average if you consider 5 a median score, or it's really bad if you're using a school-like ABCDF where F is 59 (5.9) and below.
1-10 is really just the same as 1-5. Because in our day and age, you'll never see a game rated anything from 1-5 out of 10. You'd thing 5/10 would mean that it's average, but we've come to think of that as "a bad game".
Top 10 1. Super Mario World 2. Super Mario Odyssey 3. Super Mario Galaxy 4. Super Mario 64 5. Super Mario Brothers 6. Super Mario Sunshine 7. Super Mario 3D land 8. Super Mario Galaxy 2 9. Super Mario Bros 3 10. The New Super Mario Bros
Super mario world on SNES will always speak to me in a really nostalgic way. I have really fond memories of my mom and I taking turns playing it in the 90s. She loves mario games and it really sparked my interest in gaming overall.
It's one of the cutest looking/sounding Mario games with the graphics and music. Gameplay is excellent too, but very difficult later on. I never got far into the game (yet).
@@frizzyrascal1493I think land 2 is exponentially better than land 1 but I actually think land 1 has the better soundtrack lol. it's the only thing I like about that game

I'm so shocked to see Super Mario Bros 2 at almost the bottom of the list. It's probably the most played Mario game of mine. The Gameboy Color remaster version of it is amazing. Just like the video says, it had more influence on Mario than people realize.
Mario 3 is the GOAT for me. It’s hard for younger generations to appreciate what a transformation it was. Especially when you look at level design and powers. AND THEN you realize you can fly up and there is more stuff up there to explore! Mind blown.
my dad loves super mario bros 3, it came out when he was 12 and he played it all the time, i bet a lot of people from the 80s have a similar experience.
I'm about a year younger than that & it was similar for me. It was WAY more enjoyable to play that game, than the other 2,it seemed like. Mostly, because there were SO many more levels & because of all the secret areas/tricks... It was also easier than the other 2 Mario games(most didn't count the "Mario Bros." arcade game, even w/ there being a port on NES of it). So,that made it less-frustrating to play. Not too mention, the save-file system encouraged you to play it,even when you didn't have much time for gaming. Also, many games erased your progress once you "lost" & the idea that you could make mistakes & just reset to a save-point,was still VERY special to us,back-then(about the only games w/ save files, were RPGs,back-then)... To compare tho,SMB2 was an interesting/unusual game. But,MUCH shorter than SMB3 &,actually, quite a bit harder(I always felt). It was also considered the hardest to play(of the 3 SMB games),by most. Since, you couldn't just jump on enemies & had to pick-up objects, then throw them /just-right/,to hit them. Also, having to find "keys" & unlock doors at the end of a level, meant a steeper learning-curve. So,SMB3 was a refreshing return,in a lot of ways,to what MOST had familiarity, with. As,nearly EVERYONE w/ an NES played it,at some point. Even, those w/o it packed-in w/ their NES would find a way to "check-it-out" somehow(it was literally considered THE must-play game on the NES,until SMB3 became the pack-in title, that replaced it)... Anyway,I always had many different games to play,back-then. Thanks,to my parents giving me 1 almost every B-Day & X-Mas. Also, weekend rentals(usually 2 games)& friends w/ their own collections(most would trade, for an agreed-upon time). So,the fact that I can say I played that game a LOT more than anything else, reveals how special it was,to those of us who were able to be there when it 1st released & EVERYONE talked about how it was 1 of the greatest games EVER & THE reason to own an NES... I remember ppl being surprised that ANY game could be considered more most-popular/loved than SMB was. It was THAT impressive,at the time... -Peace :)
@@user-ni7ct5vr8u Really??? Been a LOOONG time since I've played my cart of it. Could've sworn it had save files... Maybe I'm just forgetting??? I played about 5 yrs. or so ago(I actually don't have an NES emu,yet)... Anyways, thanks 4 correcting, been too-long since I played it,I guess... :D -Peace :)
As someone who grew up with Mario, from Donkey Kong and Mario Bros in the arcades back in the 80s to the most recent Mario Odyssey, I think I can say without a doubt that Mario is the most consistently great series in the history of gaming. You won't be able to find a period where Mario was 2nd best to any other platformer. Also, I agree that Odyssey is the best one, despite being the most recent. It's an absolute masterpiece, one which will likely never be beaten by any other franchise other than Mario's next instalment, just like Galaxy.
Something I have learned is that instead of apologizing, one can thank others for waiting. For example, instead of apologizing for taking so long, try to thank them for waiting and being patient. You’ve done a great job and deserve no less than respect and admiration. Excelent video!
I still love Super Mario Bros. 3 so much, with Super Mario World being a very close second favourite for me. I also love Super Mario 64, for how much it still holds up, and Super Mario Odyssey for how much freedom it gives you, along with how great the music, gameplay and overall atmosphere is.
I don't know if Mario Odyssey will hold up as number one but I have to say its charm is unique, beyond the creativity of the levels the story is actually a blast. The premise of Bowser wrecking havoc around the world 'cause nothing is too good for his wedding is just hysterical. To me while they tried in Sunshine and Galaxy, Odyssey definitely has the strongest plot, very light but just fun enough to go with the Super Mario vibe compared to the curveball that was Baby Bowser in sunshine and the kind of melancholic storyline of Galaxy.
@@CorneliusFractogram Just giving kuddos to a Mario 3D plot that managed to do just that in my opinion, a plot that give some flavor without either distracting from the game. I'm not blaming Mario 64, I prefer to see no plot than what we see in Sunshine and Galaxy, Odyssey just managed to hit a sweet spot.
galaxy 1 will always take the cake and the deepest mario game with the best story, no chance can odyssey take away from that. The depth of rosalina and the observatory is nothing like anything else in the series
I freaking love Super Mario World. Honestly one of my favorite 2-D Mario game of all time. I hope to one day show my future son/daughter the games I played as a kid. Would be a blast to see the reaction cx
every time i hear the jump up super star music i get chills. odissey is by a long shot the best 3d game and it's such a shame they didn't feel like creating a sequel. it just seems like it's always scratching the surface while presenting new ideas at the players. truly one of the greatest games of all time, and my all time favourite
Aw man I really like nsmb2 it was one of my first Mario games (within 3d world and 3d land which I both also love) I really loved nsmb2, Ik it wasn’t groundbreaking but the game itself I really enjoyed, it had a nice artstyle when playing on a 3d or 2ds I loved the levels and nature of the game 😭 (It might be nostalgia for me it doesn’t compare to a lot of the other Mario games :p)
Super Mario galaxy is my personal favourite. The soundtrack, level design and overall quality is just incredible. But Mario odyssey is still a great game
Yeah I love Mario 64 but it can just be so clunky at times. The camera that never cooperates, the random books that happen, and it can just feel really clunky overall. I really hope Nintendo does a faithful remake of it since 64 ds didn't fix its problems
Mario 64 is not fun to play in this day and age. I tried slogging through it in the anniversary rerelease and I die to bad camera more than my own mistakes. It's miserable.
Yeah, I think how Mario 64, Mario 3, Super Mario World and Odyssey rank are really a product of the audience. A game coming out at the right time in your life - or the wrong time - makes a big difference in how you feel about it. The 64 and Odyssey backlashes haven't really kicked in all the way yet.

It really shows how much of an impact these games had on his generation, they were a massive part of many people's childhoods, and I'm lucky they were also part of mine
My older brother did the same for me, even though i was too young to really play for myself
I had a snes christmas 91, my dad didnt even know how an atari worked
My dad played the original NES, and he’s a huge Mario fan.
my response on the survey for SMW was "played with mom"
My mom does that with Mario 1, 2 (US), and 3.
Yeah, like... look at the transition from Mario Bros. to SUPER Mario Bros. You can see some elements that carried over but radically different game.

I don’t think it’s hurting anybody, and nobody HAS to play it. Just a fun challenge for those who wish to face it.

That's why speedrunning/challenges are so popular with it.
@@thegreatprimoyt3519 Sonic Forces moment? :V
I'd take a Galaxy 1 or 2 ten times over before going through that again.
Yes and similarly Zelda 2 was totally different from Zelda 1, so it felt in step with what Nintendo was doing.
Hearing you say NSMB2 was your first Mario game hit me like a brick
Mine was Wii! I’m 24. Late bloomer to video games. Odyssey is by far my favorite.
Yeah. Even as someone who’s first was NSMB I felt really old hearing that haha
That was my second game, I played 3d land first. Then I played sunshine and I was blown away

Well than I’m gonna hit you like a truck. My first Mario game was super Mario sunshine. I’m 20 now 😂
My heart almost dropped when I heard the Bianco Hills theme playing at number 18, thank goodness Sunshine wasnt ranked that low. You really tricked me with the music 😂
It’s a testament to the series that even the lowest ranked games on this list are still pretty fun
True I don't think there is truly a "bad" main series Mario game.
Personally while lost levels is my least favorite and more frustrating than fun, it's more of a personal thing as it's definitely not my type of Mario game.
I don't get any fun from playing lost levels

Same here. It seems like it was mostly younger people who voted on this.
It's mostly because they're better games.

@@ronnieyates8527 18, so yeah I did in fact grow up with it.
It was innovative but that doesn't make it the best. I think games like Odyssey took what 64 did and perfected it.
I'd love to see a poll on the Sonic series, probably one of the most dividing game franchises ever.
Now that I think of it, both Mario and Sonic had games where they became furries

It'd be interesting to see how Super Mario Bros. Wonder would affect the rankings nowadays.
I think Wonder would be #2 only to Odyssey. SM Wonder is so amazing.
Funnily enough I think it’s my favorite in the series 😅
It'll probably crack the top 5 for sure, top 3 maybe and top 10 AT THE VERY least.

@@quarterzillion Lost Levels is really casual-unfriendly, a game that certainly seems like it was made for SMB1 pros. If most gamers are casuals, then it's not going to be anywhere near the top.

4 - Super Mario 2
5 - Super Mario 1
6 - Super Mario Land 2 (6 Golden Coins)
7 - Super Mario Lost Levels
8 - Super Mario Land

@Ethanmcbloons Not if the people are anonymous.
Agreed. In general, the newer games ranked much higher. 3D games also graded much higher. I'm 41 and there's no way I'd put Galaxy and Odyssey ahead of Mario 3 and Mario 64. Those games were legendary and groundbreaking.
Yeah this doesn’t really work since not everyone has played all the games
@@John6-40 They may have been "groundbreaking" but super mario odyssey is overall better.
I’m 17 and I know mario 64 is the best mario game
Would also be interested in the data!
Judging by the ratings and my own experience, I would wager that it would be the latter new soup entries. They’re perfectly good games but there’s simply nothing new in them. Enjoyable enough to play but not original or very memorable
Scott the Woz made a good video about the games as well.
I expect Mario Run got the least responses because it's on mobile
Watching people play Odyssey, so many get emotional at the big musical number. It has a feeling of grandeur and pure love for the series, a big moment of fun and adventure. I really hope they're considering a sequel! We loved that game!

Repent and follow Jesus my friend! Repenting doesn't mean confessing your sins to others, but to stop doing them altogether. Call on the name of Jesus and pray for Him to intervene in your life. - Revelation 3:20
Revelation has been unfolding since Jesus died. The Popes have claimed to be equal to God and set themselves in Jesus' place (antichrist(s)). Vatican City (Which is its own nation BTW) have risen up to fulfill the role of the false prophet
Regarding the man of lawlessness or antichrist, 2 Thessalonians 2:4 says “Who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sits in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.” The restrainer that the Apostle Paul was referring to in 2 Thessalonians was the Western Roman Emperor, who held back the Popes from taking power.
For the Pope holdeth place on earth, not simply of a man but of the true God.” (Source: “Decretals of Gregory IX,” Book 1, chapter 3.)
Pope Pius V blasphemed, “The Pope and God are the same, so he has all power in Heaven and earth.” (Source: Pope Pius V, quoted in Barclay, Cities Petrus Bertanous Chapter XXVII: 218.)
Pope Leo XIII declared, “We hold upon this earth the place of God Almighty.” (Source: Pope Leo XIII Encyclical Letter, June 20, 1894)
The antichrist sea beast of Revelation points to the office of the papacy, the Popes of Rome, who controlled the Roman beast for 1,260 years, from 538-1798 AD.
Daniel 7:25 says “And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time.” The Popes of Rome spoke against Elohim and proclaimed to be God. They reigned for 1,260 years, from 538-1798 AD. during which they caused tens of millions of saints to be killed.
The Pope’s title is Vicar of Christ, which in Latin is ‘Vicarius Filii Dei’, and equates numerically to the number 666

I don't think it was recency bias. Odyssey goes for a formula similar to 64, while Galaxy was very linear.
That was my thought about Galaxy 2. It just seems way too high up for a sequel that mostly reused the mechanics.
Yeah, the game is super mediocre and not that good. Galaxy was the best Mario game.
@@master106 POV: You have never played Mario Odyssey. Nah I'm joking lol. You can have your own opinion and Mario Galaxy is amazing.
To me, playing Super Mario Odyssey created a feeling in me like I used to get playing new games as a child. I grew up with the Mega Drive and PS1, so interactivity with the environment was limited at best. But I would always try stuff out. "What if I hit this tree with this fire ability?" "What if I jump up onto that high rock?"
Super Mario Odyssey actually rewards so much of this silly little fooling around with the odd coin here and there, and it's always a joy to think of something to then find out the developers were thinking about it too.
Fr my dad bought it for me and I was skeptical since newer games hadn’t hit me hard but Super Mario Odyssey is literally amazing I love it so much
@AndrewWithEase11 11 man someone must have an unlucky upbringing
@AndrewWithEase11 11 gr8 b8 m8
@AndrewWithEase11 11 Yeah, I hated odyssey. Felt weird compared to the other games and collecting moons got old quick. I try not to compare it to 64 but it’s hard not to, seeing as how I think the creator considered it the “spiritual sequel” to 64 or something.
I have never played it as I don't have a switch
But I've watched Zack Scott's playthrough and it looks epic
(or if it was handled differently.)
These are all just nitpicks, though.
Is it really big enough for its own spot? It's more of an extra to 3D World Switch than an entire game imo
@@mweeee It’s a small campaign, yes, but it’s so wildly different from 3D World that I consider it to be its own game. It’s got it’s own equally sized spot on the main menu, so I feel like Nintendo wanted to push it as a “two in one” package with each game standing on its own.
@@jonathanwest8415 What the problem with games being short. I dont understand Those people What matters most is if the game is fun
I refuse to count Super Mario Run as a "mainline" mario game and as such will consider Lost Levels as the *real* unpopular game according to your survey. I like that you covered everything in the video instead of just the first and last. Looks good
That sounds like a YOU problem because it is a mainline game
I love these survey videos, but I do have one suggestion. Could you start saying a couple of the negative reviews on the more popular games? I'd love to hear what few negative things people had to say about the highest rated games.
Edit: this wasn't meant to be an excuse to nitpick Mario Odyssey in the comments. I don't care about everything that made you dislike the game. I wanted to know what the negative three-word responses were to the most popular games, not just Mario Odyssey.
Please stop complaining about the game in the replies.
i can give you a review of oddyssey:
i hate it. sure, objectively, it's good. the movement is good and all. my problem is the same as with most of the switch. the music. i DESPISE jump up super star, i'd rather listen to the crazy bus menu theme.
and it lacks smth i need, motivation to do stuff. yes, i'm a massive downer
I'll give another negative odyssey review!
obnoxious, repetitive, condescending, infuriating, grating
I had to mute the game often because the music was so annoying. awful.
18:09, Love that introduction to Mario Odyssey!
I'm hoping you do more survey videos in the future. Even though I usually have only played a handful of them for each series, it's fun to see what other people's opinions are.
I think another good topic might be what is the best Pokemon game or the best Sonic game.
what about best Kirby game?
yeah, I think best Pokemon game is inevitable since recently he's done quite a few Pokemon videos though I'd say to wait for Scarlet and Violet to come out first, since it'll be great for them to be part of the ranking as well!
It’s so cool to see other peoples views on different Mario games
when is it not?
Of course but 3D Land isn't a Switch game ^^'
3D world did it better
Mario World: "I'm the best 2D Mario game"

I'll probably maintain my entire life that Super Mario Galaxy is the greatest game of all time. It's just so beautiful in every possible aspect.
YESYESYESYESYESYES
Too bad about the motion controls, really puts a damper on it for me, still a fantastic game though.
But 64?!
Certainly the best Mario game. Odyssey is a superb game too, but doesn't reach such level of magic.
Super Mario galaxy 2 is better than Super Mario Galaxy, and the Soundtrack is also better in SMG2, idk what he means

It's truly amazing to hear all of the ways Mario has played such a big role in all of our lives through the games we grew up with!

I love these polls, but would appreciate if the rating went from 1 to 10. I find voting from 1 to 5 very limiting
as much as i agree i also think 1-10 is too much
I feel the opposite.

Part of me is surprised that Mario 3 isn’t higher on the list, but that just goes to show how many amazing Mario games there are!
Mario 3 is the GOAT for me. It’s hard for younger generations to appreciate what a transformation it was. Especially when you look at level design and powers. AND THEN you realize you can fly up and there is more stuff up there to explore! Mind blown.
Wish you collected data like ages for this list. Would help give context to the data as well (rating games higher due to nostalgia etc)

my dad loves super mario bros 3, it came out when he was 12 and he played it all the time, i bet a lot of people from the 80s have a similar experience.

I have no idea what the person who said the original didn't age well is smoking. That's almost 40 years old and is still not only playable, but fun.
Something I have learned is that instead of apologizing, one can thank others for waiting. For example, instead of apologizing for taking so long, try to thank them for waiting and being patient. You’ve done a great job and deserve no less than respect and admiration.

Plot? Storyline? Who cares, it's a Mario game. It's not interactive drama. Less is more.
