Sadly there are so many scammers weighing in here. Educate yourselves so you don't get conned by these "special" financial advisors and get rich quick scemes. Listen and read people like Guy, William, Housel, Vogel and many otgers who invest, not trade. The turtle beat the hare.

17:20. Agree on the point of surviving the wilderness and sharks infested seas. A balanced, even keeled portfolio will be hitting the region of sub-ten returns.

I've seen quite a few clips/interviews with Guy and I think he's one of the good ones, but I admit I wasn't aware of his fund's performance so was a tad surprised by the annualised return being 'only' 9%. When factoring in the fee the fund will no doubt charge I imagine the reality is that most of it's investors would just have been better off investing in the S&P 500.

Right. What other industry do you get rewarded for underperformance? 9 out of 10 of these guys consistently do worse than the market. It's all smoke and mirrors. People want an 'expert' to take control for them, only to pay for underperformance and have their returns whittled away by fees.

Well.... based on my experience, Aquamarine having $350m AUM and delivering 9.5% average annual return is a very solid performance. Certainly in the top 5% of midcap/ large cap investment funds and more likely higher still (I started investing in 2001).

Telling the truth is challenging but essential in every facet of life, especially considering our biases and stereotypes. In personal relationships, honesty fosters trust and deepens connections. In the workplace, transparency leads to better collaboration and innovation. In social interactions, being truthful helps break down harmful prejudices and promotes understanding. In politics and leadership, integrity is crucial for building public trust and ensuring fair governance. No matter the context, embracing honesty, despite its difficulties, is vital for personal growth and societal progress.
    Thanks Guy

Beating the S&P 500 after fees and taxes is very difficult. You can take on too much risk, not enough risk, too diversified or not enough. Trading a lot will cause high taxes - which is NOT disclosed in most funds because these taxes are paid by the investor (and not the fund).

You may not like this, many people don’t, but bitcoin has improved my purchasing power beyond the sp500, and all I do is DCA long term

It can be done if you know how to time trades you can put 50% of your portfolio into single trades of s&p companies. You might say that’s crazy risky but you have a stop loss, you’re not risking it all so to speak, unless the company goes bust overnight which is rare for mammoth companies, I’m willing to take that risk.
