I traveled to the UK (Cambridge, Oxford, London) before COVID because I was interested in doing a PhD in Computer Science in the UK, and after my trip I decided that Cambridge would be the best place. But I haven't contacted the professor I'm interested to work with (Prof. Cecilia Mascolo) and the admission process (colleges etc...) seems pretty complicated for me as International student(not European), also, there is no way I can pay such a high tuition during my whole PhD. Would you recommend me to contact the Professor first? Or where could I get some advise about the application process? Thank you so much!!!

Well It is quiet different from a DIL of a working data scientist . I'm currently enrolled in my last year of master's in Data Science. Which road would you advise me if I were in your shoes ? Also, Is it that hard to integrate Cambridge uni for a phd knowing that I am not based in UK . Thanks !

    • @trapbois4573

I can only speak on behalf of a bachelors degree in cs. Typical primary classes related to the major is OOP, Data Structures and Algorithms. Since CS is an umbrella term to define many niches, other classes cs majors can take are database systems, data analysis and management, computer architecture and theory, AI and ML, operating systems, computer network, computer graphics and vision and a lot more classes that are usually considered as electives. Once again a CS student will usually focus on a specific area of study within CS that they would like to explore professionally. Artificial intelligence and machine learning are a focus of many students especially for pursuing masters and PhD.
Other than the core classes, your son will take imo irrelevant classes except for the math classes which I would say are useful because all schools are required to provide a diversified education regardless of the major they choose.
