It'll probably be good. There's still a whole lot of source material they can use, and the first one was decent (I haven't seen it, but I've heard it was a good movie.) A sequel definitely makes sense.

I just Googled it and there's like 20 books in whole bad guys graphic novel series so there's a lot of room for inspiration for a sequel

Are there even any more content from the original Bad Guys books, that can inspire Dreamworks to make a sequel? They better do it fucking right dude, we’ve had two bad sequels in the span of less than a month. Third time is just adding salt to a very bad wound.

I’ve said this far too many times to count, but people need to stop treating megamind 2 as a dreamworks movie sequel. It’s not by them. Its by their television animation department. I don’t think it should count in the discussion of dreamworks sequels because it really isn’t a true sequel

The sequels are pretty good but I feel like the more recent story plot with Mr. Snake being evil is kind of dragging out to be way too long and over complicated. It can be a little hard to follow

In some way they will, so again I'm going to be in an argument about the show while most people are like "but it's mostly good!" while I fret over "the details" otherwise known as major plot point and artistic flaws.

Fun fact: the movie is VERY different from the books. It’s one of those adaptations that pulls from multiple books and adds its own ideas.
Yeah! Also the main titled group characters were technically, animal men in black.
Bad Guys was very innovative as a movie, and I think a sequel can work really well if they put effort into it and don't just do it for the sake of having a sequel.
Another sequel from DreamWorks, well at the moment it is not doing very well with its sequels, but Bad Guys could be the exception. I hope they don't ruin it.

Puss In Boots The Last Wish currently is their only great 2020’s sequel and Kung Fu Panda 4 looks pretty and sounds great yet is such a mediocre followup to such the average Kung Fu Panda 3

As much as I have the speculation it MIGHT go down that route, I have a feeling that with the right kind of people, it could possibly pay off.
Unless I missed it, you haven't talked about the synopsis of The Bad Guys 2 where the titular gang is having trouble getting acceptance by the crowd, but then an all-female gang of criminals ropes them into doing "one last job". Granted that may be all we know about the plot so far but I think a better plot would be that the Bad Guys still have trouble finding acceptance, but when Mr. Wolf hears that Diane got recruited by the International League of Heroes from the seventh book to do a special mission, he makes a plan for him and his gang to complete this special mission themselves in the hopes that it will get them recruited into the International League of Heroes and ultimately prove they are no longer bad guys.
I feel like the sequel is going to get the Kung Fu Panda 4 treatment. Where Wolf is the only character, and the other Bad Guys will be in like 5 minutes of screen time...
That wouldn't make sense for it to get the kung fu panda 4 treatment since the other crew are a crucial part of the character development.
I'm Optimistic actually, the premise certainly has alot of room to grow and won't compare it to megamind, that movie had such a wide gulf from inception that it was always going to be tricky to make it good, Bad Guys being much more recent helps, along with the natural flexibility of a group of scoundrels continuing adventures)
Monster house is also getting a sequel.

Honestly, here's how I feel about a Bad Guys 2: As long as the plot isn't absolute trash, and the don't screw up the characters, I'm going to enjoy it. Especially if they're basing it off of the books, it should be at least pretty good. Either way, what brings people back is well developed characters, not a perfect story, and I don't think we can deny that the characters were VERY well done. Personally, I adore them all, and would love to just simply see more of them in general.

It’s going to be a big competition for two Furry movies
Zootopia 2 is up in the air for me and my love for the film has cooled in years since coming off that high from 2016 but seeing just the cheapness and dirtiness for Disney over the last several years is concerning me
My only hope is it stays as fun. Not every movie has to be great, and I like that animation is getting to a point that a gorgeous movie can be middling plot-wise.
As long as it's fun, I'm in.

If Dreamworks had to cut corners for KFP 4 and Megamind 2, then I wouldn't be too optimistic about a sequel here.
KFP 4 was actually good, I just really felt the absence of the Furious 5.

I am now the happiest girl in the world. Not because this announcement surprised me, but because I WAS RIGHT!!!
I always knew there was a sequel in the works! I knew it since 2022! Okay, it was more like hoping before I found little tidbits from various posts made by crew members. I deduced that a DreamWorks sequel usually comes out 3.5 years after its predecessor. Said predecessor would also have to be successful, which "The Bad Guys" was in its initial run. With this evidence, a sequel was pretty much in the bag. I even started a prediction sheet about it around this time last year!
I have been a fan of "The Bad Guys" ever since I first learned of the movie's development in October 2021. I was charmed by the books and became even more so by the movie. I am not into the heist genre, per se, but the characters absolutely won me over! I fell so much in love with them that I stomached watching "A Very Bad Holiday", which I admit is lackluster in certain areas (but, hey, I still quote it from time to time). Even if the TV show (which according to a few sources is also in production) has the same quality as the special, I would gladly watch it as well. That's how passionate I am about the franchise.
I do understand your concerns about the quality of "The Bad Guys 2". I'm also concerned about how it will compare to the first film. I did, however, notice a pattern with DreamWorks and their sequels. It's usually the immediate sequels (AKA the "2"s) that are a step up from the originals. Usually. Sometimes, those sequels can be misses, but it's often the "3"s and/or "4"s that are more misses than the "2"s.
While I can't say that the franchise will always be faithful to the book series, I do admit (and hope) that the crew can take elements from those books.
All in all, VERY EXCITED to see what the sequel will become! A little scared, maybe, but excited all the same!
If Wolf and Diane dont hook up, ill ask why even bother?

Year of the sequels
The Bad Guys is my favorite movie (doesn’t mean I think it’s the best movie) so I’ve been waiting for a sequel to be announced for a while. Very excited!
I do think the bad guys was a fantastic movie I loved it very much and it has a TON of sequel potential and I’m actually excited, yet I’m a bit skeptical after kung fu panda 4 and..megamind 2

I literally grew up with the book so I was shocked and jumping off the walls when I saw a movie was coming out and now a secound one!? I know they have a chance at blowing it but I still can’t help but be excited cuz it could still work out if they do it right

As someone who never heard of the books and just saw this movie last week, I'm amazed how under the radar it seems. The only animated movie I can even think of having seen in theaters in the past few years was The Boy and the Heron, most other studios have just been putting out stuff that looks underwhelming. So I really hope that this is an opportunity for them to make another good one.

Recent failures in animation from all studios is mostly in the writing department. Maybe gutting the studio *also* kills the visuals, but if they can't even get the writing right, no amount of rockstar hypercompetent animation will save a project. I'm... not hopeful on this one, but we'll see.

I am pretty keen on this sequel! Frankly I think one of the main reason dreamworks has been flopping is because of megamind 2 since it’s made by the guys that make their t.v shows like the bad guys holiday special and I think we’re going to see a bigger development in dreamworks next year

Dreamworks outsourcing their animation to other studios seems interesting, I would pay good money to see Dreamworks and Aardman shake hands again like they did when they made Chicken Run and Wallace and Gromit the curse of the were-rabbit.

For the record I wasn't really a fan of the first movie but I did think it was good I really liked Diane foxington as the Crimson paw and quite possibly that was a Twist that I did not see coming personally I think they're going to bring Diane back for the sequel and if they do I'm interested to see what she'll do in the movie my theory is that Diane is now a member of the bad guys and she basically lives with them now I'm interested to know what's this movie is going to be about and I'm also interested to know if we'll get a brand new villain for the sequel it would be kind of lame if they just had marmalade as the villain twice so I'm interested to know if we'll get a brand new villain for the sequel

Going by the ass quality of Megamind 2, I think it was supposed to be a spin-off movie of the series and not an actual sequel. There's no way that Dreamworks would do Megamind that dirty as an official sequel.
