I was stopped at a red light and a woman slammed into me from behind; she was ticketed but when the insurance company called me she said the light was green and I was stopped on a green light. I told the insurance guy that I had a dash cam with a rear cam as well and the arguments stopped when I sent them the video. You need both front and rear dash cams and mine cost $125
What a dumb argument. So what if the light is green? Literally can't be at fault even in that situation. No one just gets a free pass to slam into someone in front of them because the traffic light was green.

I just got one for my daughter’s car. She protested at first. I said fine. If you don’t want one you don’t have to have one. You just have to get your own insurance and get off our policy. She is now used to the cam. lol.

Unfortunately, there are scams where they deliberately cause an accident. This is why a dash cam is useful. There are cheap and expensive ones out, so do your homework researching it before you buy one
I have 2 dashcams. one the front and one on the back window. When someone starts tailing me they soon notice the dashcam and pull back 😂
I need to rig up a little blue blinking light next to my rear window cam - just bright enough some one driving the correct distance or closer can see...
The camera's parking feature you mentioned is usually only available when you wire it into your fuse box or buy a separate power source. I'm sure I don't have to tell you this, Scotty, but your cigarette lighter/accessory port is typically solely powered when your vehicle is running. You need to buy a separate kit and tap it into some of the fuses that are always powered.
My truck has two lighter ports, one always on and one on when the car is on.
I got a 500w power station to resolve that problem cheaper than taking it to the dealer to get it working and if we ever lose power I got 120 🤷♀️
If your accessory port only works when the car is turned on. You have the wrong car. The accessory port/cigarette lighter on every car I have ever owned since 1978, worked without the ignition switch being turned on.
My truck never shuts off power to cigarette lighter.

It's funny, dashcams didn't become popular till we started to see dashcam videos in Russia.
They were the front runners.
That was due to so many Scammers faking collisions and injuries to extort money from innocent drivers.

@Scotty: The ThinkCar unit can only reset your "oil service lamp" 5 times over the life of the unit. That would cause most DIY mechanics to pass on it.

Why aren't these built into cars by manufacturers? The reason people hate these aftermarket dash cams is the Goddamn wires running across the windshield, you can never tuck them in quite right, and the drain on the car battery, because people forget to unplug them. Also the damn suction just fails sometimes, and falls on your dashboard while you're driving, super dangerous.
They're built into all Teslas.

Have one that has a screen that replaces the rear view mirror, it's good to have a wide angle rear view and with no more super bright headlights blasting in the mirror.
Plus with the cam inside the rear window it's always clear. Front and rear recording, adjustable screen view, very nice

An absolute device that every car should have no matter the age. I was driving a 20 year old POS. For the age of the car I bought just for the front. I now have a newer car so bought a front and back. People lie, dash cams can't.
It is strange that in some countries no matter what evidence you have, when in front of a corrupt judge you lose either way. But yes, very useful when two citizens get into a Tim Tam. Good to see you've come back from death again Scotty boy.
I personally like Garmin because of the voice commands. I don’t have to reach over and press a button. I have the cheap one and it does a good job.

Even a bad dashcam is better than no dashcam! We have forward/aft cameras in every vehicle. They've already earned their keep from a rear-end accident in May.

I have an Autel OBD2 scanner already, but this Thinkcar BD6 seems like a good choice for quick diagnostics and the updates are free, which my Autel has a paid update service. Thank you for the work you do. If you had not held this thing up, I would have not found it since I am having to go by the looks.

Reminds me of Yield to stop on a busy 50 mph entry. The guy gave me his info and fessed up, but Geico (his insurance) wanted me to total the car because the repair was just about the cost of the car! 🦓🐴🐎 They did right and rental car.
There ought to be an option on new cars to have a couple cams with a semi- independent battery power source that charges when the car is running but isolates the main starting car battery from being discharged by the dashcams while the car isn't running. Perhaps they could even make the auxiliary battery pack (lithium- ion? MgNm ?) able to support all of the off idle draw instead of the main lead acid battery.
Even a small solar strip would help keep the battery from totally discharging.
A regular phone power bank should probably work. Most have 2 connections so you can keep the bank always plugged into the cigarette lighter and the cam plugged into the bank. I haven't tried this so don't sue me if it doesn't work.
my front and rear cams work 24/7 and ive spent days without using my car and the battery still worked fine.
I have dashcams in all my cars. I have had a great experience with my cheap POS Biuone camera. It has front and rear and I caught it on sale for $30! It’s bulky and ugly but works OK and was cheap enough that I don’t really care. I don’t make the kind of money to buy a $200 camera but $30 is fine. Easy to install too.
How's it supposed to prevent car thieves? If they steal your car w/ a cam, they'll just rip it off and trush it. Where is the proof?

Garmin Dash Cam Mini 2... got two in my car.. almost invisible....everything is recorded in 1 minute intervals or voice command when you need 3 minutes of video proof.. smart phone needed to view anything or micro-usb adapter and download right to your computer...

a) you don't mention the theft risks for the camera itself, so probably not a good idea to leave it connected/up in an unattended vehicle.
b) you've advised (in the past) to not stick "cheap Chinese plastic crap (devices) into your OBD port", and I think I'll stick with that advice.

He advises against plugging in things that stay plugged in all the time like those insurance OBD plugs that track your driving.
The OBD device he plugged in is essentially a scan tool not a cheap device.
The best tool for your car is the tool to maintain the manual transmission.

This is for pacifically ohio and anybody in any big city area , me particularly from joliet illinois knowing this situation on hand 30years ago. The old school cats told me that during that era. They knew more than I did for sure.
Leave it in your car all the time. NO ONE WILL SMASH YOUR WINDOW AND STEAL IT.
Is a gas station liable for pumping a bunch of rust into my gas tank and clogging my pump/ fuel filter? Is this something that full coverage car insurance can take care of? My proof is that the spark plugs are now all coated red and it’s not from my own car because the gas tank is plastic.
Some gas stations have a guaranteed gas policy, meaning if you can get a mechanic to prove it was their gas that caused the damage, the gas station will pay to repair your car for you.
While it probably is their fault, good luck proving it. You'll spend more on lawyers than just buying a new fuel pump.
If you pull into a gas station and you see a fueling truck pumping in gas to the underground tanks don't put gas in your car . When they're pumping fuel into the underground tanks it stirs up any sediment on the bottom of the tank .If you pump that gas it goes into your car's tank You don't want that in your car .Just an FYI ...
A station with a clean filter can pump 8-9 gallons per minute. As they get crud in their filters, the flow slows way down. If you see the pump barely pumping, stop and go to another station.
Did you loan your car to someone? Someone who has access to off-road diesel and filled or partially filled your car with diesel? That stuff is RED.

2 things I just got. The plug in to diagnose my car and 2 dashcams. I'm actually surprised that car makers aren't installing them in their cars. I bet it does happen one day.

@@bobbiellison4315 It has to be connected to the internet and unless the vehicle comes equipped with an internet or phone connection that is unlikely. The only thing Scotty hooked up was UBS power. I took a look at the price of this jewel of a camera and who knows, maybe it will connect with your brain or mine at that price.

Yes there are many but the main thing is you need to connect it to a power source that is always on.
