Good to see you finally stamp the flow direction on the side instead of a sticker that falls off before you open the package. Only took about 8 years to figure that out but keep up with the groundbreaking improvements

Where in the system should the filter be inserted?

Add it to the return line.

@@defmud80 and where exactly? I don't see how you could fit it to either end of the hose.

@@t.t7225 one simple way to do it is to simply cut the return line right before the fluid reservoir and simply splice it in. Or in the same location, remove the return line from the reservoir, plug the filter into that line and add a length of 3/8 (or whatever your size is) for the filter to the reservoir. That method would help if its cramped and a little extra line will help get the filter where you need it. It all can be right there at the fluid reservoir. Oh and a couple of good clamps if the filter doesn't come with them.

My '05 Subaru Outback P/S belt makes noises and the belt squeals/slips during cold starts, even though it has the proper tension. The noise goes away after the system warms up. I already replaced the return hose and the O-ring (the typical issues with these cars).. but the noise remains. Next I'm going to check the mesh filter in the reservoir to see if it's dirty. Any other idea what it can be?

This is HILARIOUS! Thanks for the laugh. The clowns took CLEAN power steering from a NEW bottle for a system that uses ATF type fluid, and sprinkled some crap on top and then compared it to non ATF type power steering fluid that is clearer. Funny stuff. guys.

The “debris” on the old fluid kinda looks staged. Imo

Staged AF. Guy basically shows some brand new and CLEAN dextron ATF fluid (red) with garage dirt dropped on the top and the other fluid is a totally different type. More over mesh filters are included in almost all OEM steering fluid reservoir. So if you wanna have good filtration, you just have to go with a "clumsy designe" filter which actually includes paper filter+magnet. Paper will filter out the micron small particles too, what you can not see.
