That moment you realize Sun and Moon was the last DS main series game and that the champion theme may have been a tribute to all the years on the platform...
Oh no, it’s more than that. It’s their last game on the GAMEBOY line. The last Pokémon game for Nintendo handhelds. They moved to the switch after this,(I consider the switch a console) so this is the end of the handheld Pokémon games.
Anita Paulita true, i am the same opinion that it would rather sound like that for Kukui when he's getting his ass wrecked by the most powerful champion to have ever existed
Anita Paulita Oh I know I love it too, I was just saying how a lot of people said Megalovania was the player's theme as well, but yeah, this theme is AMAZING
Kukui wasn't the champion. The player character is Alola's first champion, and the battle with Kukui is simply their first title defense. Which means that this theme? That's your theme.
Kukui was the one who created the alolan pokemon leage. Even if he's not the "champion", he is the one who determined if you really deserved to become the champion
It does. You, the protagonist, already became the Champion of Alola the moment you defeated the Elite Four. Kukui was the first person to challenge you for the title, that's why in-game he was still referred to Professor Kukui, and not Champion Kukui.
Considering Sun and Moon were made during the 20th anniversary of Pokemon. This theme hits so fucking hard. 20 years of Pokemon and you're the champion defending the title. Takes you back to your first pokemon game ever and you challenge your very first champion. Roles reversed is really something!
The best part of this fight for me was the mid-way realisation of where I was standing in relation to Kukui. I every other Pokémon game you are always standing closest to the entrance of the room and facing the champion but this time you are standing on the opposite end of the room, facing the entrance. At that moment I realised the music playing wasn’t Kukui’s, it was mine. Kukui wasn’t the Champion... I was!
@@Fishy-Squad9 I'm not trying to Defend *it* because *it* or this inhumane object what we nowadays call "9 year old" is truly cringe. But, this comment is from 1 year ago so chill man.
I love that the intro is from red/blue/ yellow, considering that your character is originally from Kanto, it really does make it YOUR theme as it takes from both your past home and your current one
@@mparagames I'm doing that too. The part that he is refering to actually makes a reference to the theme that have been in all of the games' introduction.
XD that'd be awesome I wonded if Game Freak/Nintendo would ever make a pokemon game/part of a pokemon game where you are the Champion and the main focus is to defend your title while experiencing challenges along the way o3o
@@Gamian8 Me too,bro...Me too...Every fan of Pokemon in that moment(in my opinion)was waiting for Ash's victory in the Kalos League, but the writers ruined everything!Until now i still hate what happened in that episode

joshua kim My turn one experience: We both pull out Daytime Lycanroc, both use Stealth Rock. WHELP. Thankfully mine seemed to be tankier than his so he withdrew and I later got to finish it off as his last Pokémon with my Azumarill.
You finally know the reason why Hau has the weaker starter when battling Kukui. I was spamming health items when my team was getting spammed with brave bird. No revives were used. Like the old saying goes. "You don't get to be champion of the Pokemon League without knowing how to spam Full Restores!"
Honestly, I even acted like an AI Champion would- I limited myself to exactly two Full Restores. He's challenging me, I've gotta take pity on the inferior trainer in the room.
I picked this up in the beginning of 8th Grade and have now graduated. Almost cried over the first memory I had of the friendship mechanic actually saving me. I had trained up a Rowlet the entire game and not once did it like me as much as I loved it. Not until I was out of Revives, out of Pokemon, and put against Kukui's Incineroar "Decidueye listened to your shouts and dodged in time!" I actually beat Kukui at the last possible moment and I had never been so proud of a victory in Pokemon. Now, I get reminded of it every time I listen to this song.
I played this game when I was in 3rd grade now I’m in 9th this really makes me sad to listen to this because i realize how much fun I had playing this game
ShulkFeelingIt Every time i ever talk about pokemon i forget that Fairies exist. I Played Gen 4, and loved it. Played Gen 5 and hated it , stopped like half way. Didn't play Y until 2 months ago and i keep forgetting the existence of fairies.
Also, the Professor being the final battle was a nice touch. Something tells me fans had a dream of the Professor being the final battle for a while now.
@@supernerd4245 I've always wondered what Oak's lineup was like in his prime. hope we can eventually fight him when he's going all out, he's supposed to be one of the best trainers before retiring.

@@jettlucashayes8508 Ash post gen 4 doesn't deserve a theme song, he does not deserve a cool champion theme at all. After his BW reset he's like below Youngster Joey on the badass scale now. He lost his cool guy privileges. Being the default champion of the smallest region where he only fought his lame school friends doesn't count as an actual champion win for him honestly, in gen 3 he almost became a Frontier Brain and in gen 4 he went against a hacking Darkrai user and almost won lol.
bigblue999 if he really wanted to be mean: Chesto, Rest, Recycle, Curse, Crunch/High Horsepower or Heavy Slam (because chances are pretty decent youd have more than two Pokemon susceptible to the one attacking move)
Another pokemon video someone said they had a problem with killing that sandcastle for the ghost types. I just used my Ludicolo Level 54 and used surf. Done.
This theme to me is the perfect celebration of 20 years of Pokémon. You aren't challenging the champion you ARE the champion. This music is for YOU. because darn it you've been trying to get here for 20 years and now people have to challenge you. This music gave me " chicken skin"
He meant goosebumps, sounds like English isn't his native tongue. Goosebumps is literally "chicken skin" in French and presumably other languages as well.
Not gonna lie, the first few seconds got me pumped more than I ever have been in a Pokemon game. Literally shouted "LET'S DO THIS!" then promptly got a noise complaint from my upstairs neighbor. Worth it.
I know this music is great! but the thing is, its not kukui's theme. He isnt the champion, there was no champion. This is our theme. we are the first champion of alola and we are defending our title. when we battle the elite four again. its the same theme. its our theme and thats why i love this theme
Congratulations! You've claimed the throne of the Pokémon League! But don't rest just yet. Because others are coming for that throne, too! It could be your friendly rival. The punkish loner on a mission. The region's top professor. A mature young lady with a toxic touch. An electrifying young inventor. A steely but kindly programmer. A down-to-earth but strong-as-land traveler. A draconic rock star. An egotistical jerk with high aspirations. Or...some little boy (who admittedly trained a helluva lot more than other little boys his age).
Yeah, and I didn't like Diantha's theme that much lol, same with Gym Leaders (elite four was cool though). Diantha also isn't as story related as the champion of SM, you only see her a few times, then instead of Sycamore you see Diantha lol XD
IrishDroid Agreed. The whole twist that Diantha was the Champion just didn't go well for me and for those exact reasons you mentioned in your comment. Plus by that point of the game, the Elite Four and the Champion are so easy, you literally steamroll their team (EXP Share in X and Y was so broken, I already had level 70 pokemon by then). You could argue that Lance was kind of the same in GSC/HG and SS but given the fact that he is one of the most recognizable trainers in Pokemon, it's very forgivable. At least with Lance he actually did help to bring down Team Rocket. Once I realized that all of the Elite 4 were four Kahunas you encountered throughout the game (except for Kahili who we had never seen before), I knew then and there that the Champion was the Professor himself which is a good thing. Who better to be your opponent than the one who helped you start your journey from the beginning. Plus unlike the previous professors except Sycamore, you know that Kukui is a very adept trainer having fought in Kanto. Whilst I will still say Cynthia is still the strongest Pokemon League Champion I have fought, Kukui is definately not a pushover like Diantha. I'm very thankful that the fights were much more scaled up. Game Freak clearly realized that was a huge flaw with the last generation and rectified it with this one.
Dr. Madd Huh? What do you mean? You should've had a mega on your team well before then. Like after you beat the third gym leader (the one who uses fighting type who then gives you the Mega Ring after you beat her Mega Lucario).
I adore that we finally got the Professor Oak fight that never happened in Gen 1. A solid enough team line up, and the starter that wasn't chosen being a part of it. Things like this is why I love Game Freak.
yeah the Professor oak fight is only triggerable via glitch, and he's supposed to use Gen 2 pokemon, FUCKING GEN 2 POKEMON to hype you for the future the fight was scrapped cause the removal of the 32 pokemon that are part of gen 2 happened and didn't have enough time to replace them so they cut the fight
Is it just me or is the AI for this battle MUCH more intelligent than anywhere else in the game? I remember he made a lot of strategic switches (like switching out Snorlax for Ninetales against my Kommo-o), leading with Stealth Rock, and so forth. I still found Totem Lurantis and Mimikyu harder though...
considering my team was full of rather slow pokemon i relied heaps on Toxic stalling to make my battles easier. Boy i never expected the full heals whenever they came up from the AI and it turned it into a nightmare.
For me: Hardest: Kukui (Dude made me use up almost all my healing items. Motherf***ing Snorlax and Magnezone...), Totem Lurantis (Motherf***er nearly made me run out of revives. And that f***ing Castform was a PAIN), Totem Vikavolt (Paralysis is NOT FUN) Easiest: Totem Kommo-o (Toucannon+Zygarde=2HKOed that fool), Totem Raticate (Makuhita was a boss), Totem Wishiwashi (Eat my Razor Leaf), Totem Mimikyu (Magneton and Decidueye, Baby!), Hala (Say hello to my little Trumbeak), Olivia (Slowpoke+Dartrix+Hariyama+Magneton=Sayonara, Rock types!), Hapu (Slowbro and Decidueye eat ground-types for lunch. Zygarde punked Flygon as well.), THE ENTIRE FREAKING ELITE 4 (Especially Olivia), GUZMA (Toucannon says "yippie-ki-yay, Team Skull Motherf***er!") Tough to Judge: Nanu (Hariyama laid waste to most of the team, but Sableye was a YUGE pain in the ass), Totem Salazzle (Slowpoke and Hariyama took FOREVER to beat that f***ing lizard, but it wasn't too hard in the end). Lusamine (Mismagius, Bewear, and Liligant fell in one swoop. Milotic took more hits, but still went down easily. Clefable, on the other hand.....-_-).
For my battle he used stealth Rock and switched his Pokemon two or three times, but other than that I had zero problems beating him. So I hardly noticed any spike in this battles difficulty.
Dreamer X86 I agree. For me, the theme was absolutely awesome as I lost to him after beating the elite 4 the first time, in the process of my final battle with the final member of the elite 4- my game crashed (I think I dropped my DS) but finally beat the 4 and Kukui on my 3rd attempt
seriouslly the chills are too much (was first french horn in highschool) 😭😭😭 tbh tho the precussion section didnt need yo go dat hard but they dif and i love em for it
"The most important move is the ones you and your pokémon choose in the heat of battle" meanwhile Kukui spammed Thunderbolt at my Alolan Marowak with Lightning Rod... great AI Game Freak xD
Yeah, AI seems kinda messed up in certain scenarios, had pokemon pain split me at full hp GIVING me health, had pokemon spamming priority moves on queenly majesty Tsareena over and over. Even had a trainer spam fake out the entire battle in the battle tree on a porygon Z that had converted to ghost X(
When you battle the champion, you're supposed to feel like this TRUELY is the greatest accomplishment you've achieved the entire game. You're on top of the world but you still have one last fight to win. The most hardest battle you'll ever face in the game and the feeling of winning over powers the fear of losing. Hands down one of the best champion themes in a long time and one of the most challenging champions since Cynthia. You don't get to battle many Pokémon professors and Kukui has to be one of the best in-game professors and just one of the best characters in general. It truly was a well deserved win. (I had to battle him twice and I hadn't done that since Cynthia)
Kukui is pretty mean, man. >Kukui sent out Snorlax >Tsareena uses High Jump Kick, reducing it to the red >Kukui withdrew Snorlax >Kukui sent out Decidueye >Tsareena used High Jump Kick >It doesn't affect Decidueye... >Tsareena kept going and crashed >Decidueye used Brave Bird!
I like to think this is a reference to the scrapped Prof. Oak battle in Red and Blue. I mean, you fight against the professor, he chooses the starter you and your rival didn't choose, etc.
And the battle is still in the data. Plus a while back it was revealed at one point Brock wasn't the first gym leader in Kanto. It was this evil looking kid. And the outline to his sprite is the exact same as Giovanni's in the game. There's lots of hidden stuff in the data of Red & Blue. The 190 pokemon rumor. Crobat's cry in the data? And how when they where working on Gold & Sliver in japan back in 1997? it got delayed a year for some weird reason too.
I always seem to struggle in finding out who the champion is, since you always meet them through the game, but I definitely wasn't expecting the FUCKING PROFESSOR TO SHOW UP AND KILL EVERYTHING
I thought that Sun and Moon was a brilliant change of pace. Something that the series really needed. How many Pokémon games can you battle the professor in? How many Pokémon games can you see the Pokémon league literally be built from the ground up in? How many main series Pokémon games haven't used the gym leader system? These were honestly really good games.
And, lets be honest, how many Pokemon games have it so, after you become champion, you STAY champion and rebattling the elite 4 to go back has you defending YOUR title?
I mean I didn’t like the trials at all, but seeing the pokemon league being literally created as you go was cool and also battling the professor 👌 so many things in SM and USUM could’ve been executed better thi
***** I actually had Emerald so Wallace was my champion still...when I found out I kind of imagined it. He's a rich pretty boy, is written all over his face 😂
It’s really been 6 years since Sun and Moon came out? Time sure does fly. This game reignited my love for Pokemon, and for that I respect it a ton. Love the region, love the pokemon, love the characters. I love Sun and Moon. They are my personal 3rd favorite Pokémon games
@@5ashll303 Sword and Shield happened, and while it sold well, it was only because the covid-19 pandemic sparked sales for it. Pokémon just doesn't feel right on the Switch.
He almost kicked my ass. I almost lost. I haven't had that happen since Cynthia. Can we take a moment to appreciate that this game is actually pretty challenging at points?
Haley Paige Sedai oh yeah, this game doesn't care about levels, its enemies will drag you down to heir level and beat you there if your aren't on your guard I actually lost to Lusamine because of how I underestimated this game (ima go blame my cockiness on Kalos)
Haley Paige Sedai Yep, even using the still really powerful exp share (Which thankfully isn't broken anymore, I quite like its current state) it still is a decent challenge, but totally doable without. I beat this fight in the mid 40s.
I gotta say, this makes complete sense, and it's something that they've built up since Gen I! In Gen III, Steven tells you that only recognized champions are allowed into the Hall of Fame registry room, yet multiple professors across the series seem to have immunity to this rule (Cynthia straight up invites Rowan into the registry room like we're just hanging out), and I'm sure a bunch of people know about the Professor Oak battle that was never implemented in Gen I wherein he uses the starter that was never chosen by Red/Blue, and again, Oak inducts you into the Hall of Fame in those games (Blue just sits in the Champion's room to... sulk, I guess). So to finally have a game where they finally explain what happens when there IS no established league and someone is becoming champion for the first time... Well, the responsibility of the final challenge in place of the champion should logically fall to that region's professor!
No, it doesn't make any sense. Blue never fought his old man to be aknowledged as champion. Even if we suppose that he was aknowledged then Red has never overtaken the previous champion (since Blue wasn't the official champion) and he didn't fight Oak after defeating Blue in order to access the HoF. It's at best, maybe, a tradition in Ahola region, but it feels quite rude more like a salty troll
I don't think that overthrows Linneus' theory. Even if it's true and the Professor starts the league as a placeholder champion, Gary still wouldn't have had to beat Oak for the title because the Kanto League was already well-established with Lance as Champion. Upon losing to Red Lance tells him he would have been Champion if Gary hadn't gotten there first, therefore, he must have previously held the title and a battle against Oak is not neccessary. Both Blue and then Red went on to defeat him so in either scenario regarding the legitimacy of Blue's reign (though since Lance recognized Blue as Champion, that's good enough for me), the outcome for Red remains the same since he defeated both. It is also possible that the Kanto Pokemon League is so established that Blue was probably not born yet. Blue is still a young child and Oak has decades of life experience.
In Gen I and Gen III remake games, Lance isn't the "Champion" (who, by definition, stand above the Elite 4) even before being crushed by Blue, but the strongest Elite 4 member. Just like Blue in R/B/Y, You become the Champion without defeating the previous Champion then you the professor comes a challenger just to annoy you. The last battle in S&M is a title defense match meaning you are already considered as the official Champion.
So disregarding the actual revelation of the professor being the one you have to take down as Champion, can we talk about how *brilliant* the reveal was that his last Pokemon was the fully evolved starter that's strong against yours? My jaw dropped. As soon as I saw he was throwing out his Decidueye, I had to end things with my Primarina. Battle of the Starters, man. One Ice Beam was all it took, but damn, the tension was high.
The Gr8estB8M8 but he's still not the champion...that's like saying a Togedemaru functions as a Pikachu therefore it's a Pikachu... no it's still togedemaru.
The Gr8estB8M8 Except Kuki doesn't function exactly like a champion. A champion defends their title wheras Kukui was a challenger. Also, even if two things function the exact same way that doesn't mean they are the same, they each have their own classification. The player is the champion and Kukui is not lol it's really up for discussion.
@@gamesnig luckily I caught Solagleo with an ultra ball, so Tapu Koko battle was a one second battle using the master ball because my main weakness was fairy/electric. It felt awkward when Lillie praised the main character after such an anticlimatic battle.
unless you chose Popplio.. Then you just need to wait till he sends out Decidueye, send out Primarina, use it's Z-Move (probably Oceanic Opretta) and you got a REAL ghost type.
I kept one shotting the Magnezone and having it live with Sturdy, only for him to heal it to full again. This happened like 3 times in a row before he finally let it die.
That opening portion makes this feel like it was the final battle of the series, paying tribute to everything that came before in one last grand finale for the fans
This was legitimately the first time I smiled during the final match of the Pokemon League. The music, the atmosphere, and the circumstances surrounding the league. You really made a man's dream come true; not just challenge the league like any other trainer from different regions. You walked through a relatively empty mountain which will be victory road in the future and truly tested by peers (and golfer) if you're truly worthy of sitting on that throne. And the first true challenger, a person who never had the chance to face a champion before just happened to be the one who started it all for you. I literally had to put down my 3ds and take in that this was a real title defense; not some same old league from the last region. Bravo GameFreak! You really know where to stick your surprises ☺
My favorite battle in the entire series. Kukui was absolutely the perfect battle for that role, not only because you wouldn't see it coming but because of the huge and meaningful role he played - he's not just the professor who starts you off, he's practically stride for stride with you most of the game. He aids you, nurtures you, watches you grow...he's a great deal more involved than any previous professor, and probably the most important professor of any of the regions so far. I love Sun and Moon for a lot of reasons, but one of its greatest feats is its characters. It does a fantastic job of making it a story about you and yet not all about you at the same time, and it does this on the strength of the characters it puts around you. I never felt so closely connected with the characters in a Pokémon game before - Black and White did better than the others, but not even close to this. I really hope that GameFreak makes this a trend, because it make the game experience so much more than past gens, and considering I already got a great experience from past gens, that's saying something huge.
I agree, I always see people saying that gen 5 is one of the most underrated generations but I almost never see the same thing about gen 7. this generation came with some pretty cool concepts that I hope will be worked on a lot more in future games
for gameplay yes but MY GOD how muny times did the game force you into an unwanted cutscene? It was just insane, i wanted to PLAY the game not read a buttload of text.
You misunderstood them. They said that GF will most likely reboot the franchise with whole new ideas given how the company is taking new directions. Pokemon is not ending even after an apocalypse.
So true. I ran out of revives because the elite four made me waste them, and then this is what I fight, my whole team was weak to fairy (freaking Primarina) and that freaking Primarina made me soft reset 4 times... But I eventually got lucky and crit her :D
Picked Rowlet here. Fcker used the Fire Z-move on me (Incineroar) So it killed my Crabominable. Good thing I have a Dugtrio to Dig the sht out of that one.
Ayo if I played sun instead of ultra he’d have incineroar I had poliwrath tho so didn’t matter Even though my poliwrath back then didn’t have the best moveset
I can honestly say that this was the best experience I got out of a Pokemon game since beating Red again in Heart Gold. And I know there are people who have mixed feelings regarding this music, but for me, this music perfectly expresses how I feel about this game overall. The journey and friends I made from this will hold a special place in my heart.
benji000 Kukui says it himself; this is one final hurrah for finishing your island challenge. Not a battle that intimidates you, that makes you feel like you're being tested, but just one you can enjoy as one final treat before being a champion, and having your island challenge come to an end. This certainly is a one-of-a-kind end-game battle.
funny you should say that. Of all the pokemon games i liked sun and moon the least but i liked the champion fight in sun the most of all the previous games... weird.
I can guarantee you that Pokémon is going nowhere, though. Way too much of a mammoth of a franchise for Nintendo to drop right now. A fact I'm rather glad for.
***** I believe it's the hardcore audience that stuck with the series through the generations the most, and it's mostly the casual audience that quit playing early, mostly after gen 1. But more on topic and for the sake of discussion, how would you envision a Pokémon reboot?
***** Sounds to me like you're just looking for a Pokémon spin-off game. I really don't see how attempting to replace the core series with that could possibly benefit the core series (which is arguably at an all-time high right now).
And his snorlax was pretty annyoing too. Its sad to hear that his starter that counters yours is strong no matter who you choose :(. At least incineroar has weak defenses, primarina is just...
Lol. He had a Deciduye (or however it's spelled) for me cause I chose Popplio. I one-shot it with a Brave Bird from my Crobat. But it took me 5 minutes to beat his Snorlax alone. Wore it down with my Lilligant's Leech Seed but he had all of his Full Restores still.
I think it was because i didn't have a fighting type. The problem with primarina was, it one shot my raichu, and 2 shot my oricorio. And obviously destroyed my inceniroar, and mudsdale. And Lycanroc got demolished too, as well as my evolved form of cutiefly(i don't remember the name, lol)
Jan Rasmussen I didn't take the fight seriously the first time around, and I ended up losing. I did better the second time around while playing seriously, but it was still a difficult battle. I felt like this "champion" battle was one of the more difficult ones in the series.
If you go back and watch the 'hype season' reveal adverts for sun and moon, they use this music as well our theme played us into sun and moon and here at the end it played us out
He's quite goofy, says cant beat first kahuna in a serious battle, sex simbol for some woman, is the masked trainer and second kahuna's crush... to top it off is the last boss in the first run. LOL
I loved kukui already from the games, hes honestly such a lovable character. The anime? Made me love him 10x more because of the kind of father figure he is for ash
Yeah. Kukui is the best pokemon professor, like, he's legit famous because he's the masked royale, and he also created the pokemon league in Alola. Plus his team is T O U G H
This is the greatest final Pokémon league theme ever! It truly sounds like a champion theme should. Haters can give crap to gen 7 all they want, but these were some of the greatest Pokémon games ever!
@@purpleheart9160 I like the story of the ultra games, but I prefer sumo's story solely because lusamine is such an amazingly written character, and you don't get so much of that un usum
@@lacytheespeon517 Exactly. The ending is also sad, how Lillie leaves and you don't get to see her post-game. The ultra games butchered that so much by sidelining Lusamine and removing the rainbow/shooting star scene I admit Rainbow Rocket was pretty cool though.
Seeing how this is the 20th anniversary and that nostalgia is in the air, I feel like this is a nod to the Generation I glitch where the player can battle the region Professor (in this case, Oak). So, now we can officially battle the region Professor.
"but this is the CHAMPION of the Alola region." No it's not. Did you not pay attention at all? YOU are the first Alola Champion. After the HoF registry, it puts that up on the fucking screen in big sparkly letters. You can't miss it. He just wanted to battle you to mark the moment and prove your worth.
I think it's more that the first proof for the Pokémon League is to compose the Elite Four with the four of the most prominent figures in the region and the headmaster of Pokémon Investigation in the region, which in this case is Prof. Kukui. Or it could be that by being the leading corps in building the Pokémon League, are such entitled of the responsibility of facing the first challengers of the Pokémon League as Founders. Whoever wins the Pokémon League for the first time will be crowned League Champion, and the Founders will be tiered down the Elite Four. Either Kukui dropped from the Pokémon League, or was demoted to the Elite Four, in this last case, Hala has been demoted off, unless he asks for a rematch to claim a place in the Elite Four against Olivia.
It's a refreshing change. The trainers you battle at the end aren't the Champion (you are), but challengers, and it's your job to defend your title. None of that bullshit from the other generations where you beat the Champions, but then have to defeat them again and again to regain what was already yours.
Just to clear this up for everyone commenting, this is not Kukui's theme. Kukui is not the champion, you are the champion. Kukui is the one challenging you, testing you.
No that's not precise. You are not the champion at this point. Kukui says, "Congrats you're the champion...well not yet anyway. You can't just waltz in here without having one last challenge."
What I like about this is that, 20 years ago, they intended for Professor Oak to be the final boss of Red and Blue (you can hack the games to access the battle and he even has the final form of the leftover starter) fast forward 20 years later, and who's the final boss of Sun and Moon? The professor alongside the final form of the leftover starter.
nothing will kill out hoenn for me so i'm still partial to oras the one place where everone got to see the rival that was always my favorite as actually viable for a bit XD however, I think sun and moon are my second favorites of all time and... honestly? my favorite in game legendary will forever go to lunala now. Literally my favorite thing ever for a legendary a giant glorious adorable majestic af bat with space for a face! :D
Hot take: Sun and Moon were the last good Pokémon games, while being bogged down by cutscenes and some shallow route design, you’ve gotta admit these games had a great story and were very fun to beat.
@@MariOmor1 BDSP? Hell nah. But I do have a little faith in Legends, but with the only trailer already having low quality textures and the very early release date is a tad bit concerning.

This song is so... perfect for the situation, honestly. It has the seriousness necessary to convey that this is your final trial, but at the same time... It feels like a celebration in so many ways. A celebration of Alola's Pokemon League being created. A celebration of YOU becoming its first champion. But most of all... A celebration of 20 years of Pokemon.
Battled him today and was constantly surprised with how the AI was handling the battle, it was legitimately tough with all of the switches and god combo's Kukui was making.
What's even better is his Stealth Rock + Tailwind strategy. If you don't pay attention, he'll suddenly be continuously Tailwinding your team and slamming them onto the rocks below.
I cant believe this game was made 6 YEARS ago? I remember playing with my friends during history in 5th grade. Best moments of my childhood. Also Professor Kukui goated.
I was in like 7th grade when this game came out and I kind of missed out on it because I wasn't that interested in Pokémon at the time but in 2018, I got Pokémon Ultra Moon and it was one of the best games I ever played.
This is the grand conclusion to an adventure I will always cherish. I'm one of the biggedt gen 7 supporters I know, and I'll always be in love with this region and these games.
Actually Kukui is not the Champion, The protagonist is the First Champion of the Alola Region. Kukui is however the final boss. You are defending your position as League Champion! It actually makes it a lot more special!
Story wise, this will be my favorite generation. It already is in music. I'm absolutely blown away by how beautiful this game is. Ohmori. You need to direct every Pokemon game just like this one, because this is awesome. Keep THIS up.
LordODaRings noooo I don't like the gen 7 music that much...they should hire the music director of Pokemon Diamond and Pearl, because those games still have the best soundtrack so far. :)
Yuck. The DP soundtrack was really bad in my opinion. May that never happen again. DP in general was bad. The game was slow, the music was bad, mechanics were bad, easily the worst generation basically in every department for me.
Whenever you listen to this theme's intro, does anybody else instantly remember all the past Pokemon games you've played flashing before your eyes? Cause I do😁
That's the idea, if you ask me! That's one thing I love about this theme- it's not kukui's theme, it's your theme. You are the champion, and kukui is your first challenger. The moment those first notes hit brings you back to the moment you opened your first game, be it way back in red and blue or maybe this very game. The start of your journey.
That moment you realize Sun and Moon was the last DS main series game and that the champion theme may have been a tribute to all the years on the platform...
I miss gen 7 and the previous gens
Im gonna cry oh no
3DS and DS are completely different hardware
Oh no, it’s more than that. It’s their last game on the GAMEBOY line. The last Pokémon game for Nintendo handhelds. They moved to the switch after this,(I consider the switch a console) so this is the end of the handheld Pokémon games.

This isn't Kukui's theme. This is YOUR theme.
Anita Paulita true, i am the same opinion that it would rather sound like that for Kukui when he's getting his ass wrecked by the most powerful champion to have ever existed
Anita Paulita my champion music would be Final Countdown by Europe
*megalovania flashbacks
Hey, Megalovania was pretty dang good so that's not a bad thing at all.
Should have been renamed “your” theme
Aww, I wish I could have Blue’s!
@@einMK I'd rather have N's-
Undertale vibes
Since we're the first champion of Alola, this technically makes it our theme.
shiiiitttt...
It does. You, the protagonist, already became the Champion of Alola the moment you defeated the Elite Four. Kukui was the first person to challenge you for the title, that's why in-game he was still referred to Professor Kukui, and not Champion Kukui.
Imagining you could make your own Champion battle themes and then streetpass others to fight each other's champion thrones
I mean it does sound like the main characters theme cause it sounds like a pokémon title screen theme.
I always thought this was our theme...
Kukui: here a level 5 pokemon now gtfo
Kukui 2 days later: oh fu
Lol
Its true though😂😂😂
Some dude commenting Like i don't upload anymore soo true lmfaoo
Why does Kukui's chin look like the tip of a pencil?
That's Leon bc kukui wasn't actually the champion, he wanted someone to beat him to become the champion
This whole piece sounded like a tribute and a thank you to all the fans. That’s what made it special to me
Mindy Auron so right bro
Mindy Auron yeah especially since this was the Pokémon theme
It was they they were saying thank you for all those years and that’s what motivated me to actually try and beat
It reminds me of how much I love this game
Dude, you're close to making me cry with that comment and hearing the music at the same time. STOP. JUST STOP.
Considering Sun and Moon were made during the 20th anniversary of Pokemon. This theme hits so fucking hard. 20 years of Pokemon and you're the champion defending the title. Takes you back to your first pokemon game ever and you challenge your very first champion. Roles reversed is really something!
And now we can spam the full restores. Like the saying goes “You can’t be a champion without knowing how to spam full restores” -Lance 2015 Golder

The best part of this fight for me was the mid-way realisation of where I was standing in relation to Kukui. I every other Pokémon game you are always standing closest to the entrance of the room and facing the champion but this time you are standing on the opposite end of the room, facing the entrance. I picked this up in the beginning of 8th Grade and have now graduated.
Almost cried over the first memory I had of the friendship mechanic actually saving me. I had trained up a Rowlet the entire game and not once did it like me as much as I loved it. Not until I was out of Revives, out of Pokemon, and put against Kukui's Incineroar

Or...some little boy (who admittedly trained a helluva lot more than other little boys his age).
and as of USUM, It could also be ya boi, or even the president of a corporation seeking to help weak pokemon.
ITS YA BOI
Or....it could be a young boy with a Rattata that’s in the top percentage of Rattata.
Hau. Guzma. Kukui. Plumeria. Sophocles. Molayne. Hapu. Ryuki. Faba. Youngster (Oh god what was his name)? Tristan? Yes, I think Tristan.
I thought you meant Clemont when you said “electrifying young inventor”
This fight definately makes up for how easy Diantha (Pokemon X and Y's Champion) was.
Game Freak clearly realized that was a huge flaw with the last generation and rectified it with this one.
i one shot her team with 1 pokemon a mega alakazam with psychic, shadowball, focus blast, and dazzling gleam
Janet Howe And how did you manage that? You're not supposed to have a mega at that point in the game.
Dr.
Swedish X i felt like this was a callback to that as well

Is it just me or is the AI for this battle MUCH more intelligent than anywhere else in the game? I remember he made a lot of strategic switches (like switching out Snorlax for Ninetales against my Kommo-o), leading with Stealth Rock, and so forth. I still found Totem Lurantis and Mimikyu harder though...
Joseph Frombaugh yeah i feel the same, but its not just kukui most of the kahunas were smarter or at least in my run
considering my team was full of rather slow pokemon i relied heaps on Toxic stalling to make my battles easier. Boy i never expected the full heals whenever they came up from the AI and it turned it into a nightmare.
For me:
Hardest: Kukui (Dude made me use up almost all my healing items. Motherf***ing Snorlax and Magnezone...), Totem Lurantis (Motherf***er nearly made me run out of revives. And that f***ing Castform was a PAIN), Totem Vikavolt (Paralysis is NOT FUN)
Easiest: Totem Kommo-o (Toucannon+Zygarde=2HKOed that fool), Totem Raticate (Makuhita was a boss), Totem Wishiwashi (Eat my Razor Leaf), Totem Mimikyu (Magneton and Decidueye, Baby!), Hala (Say hello to my little Trumbeak), Olivia (Slowpoke+Dartrix+Hariyama+Magneton=Sayonara, Rock types!), Hapu (Slowbro and Decidueye eat ground-types for lunch. Zygarde punked Flygon as well.), THE ENTIRE FREAKING ELITE 4 (Especially Olivia), GUZMA (Toucannon says "yippie-ki-yay, Team Skull Motherf***er!")
Tough to Judge: Nanu (Hariyama laid waste to most of the team, but Sableye was a YUGE pain in the ass), Totem Salazzle (Slowpoke and Hariyama took FOREVER to beat that f***ing lizard, but it wasn't too hard in the end). Lusamine (Mismagius, Bewear, and Liligant fell in one swoop. Milotic took more hits, but still went down easily. Clefable, on the other hand.....-_-).
For my battle at least, he was an idiot. His magnezone only used thunder wave and thunderbolt on my marowak. Kinda anticlimactic in my opinion.
For my battle he used stealth Rock and switched his Pokemon two or three times, but other than that I had zero problems beating him. So I hardly noticed any spike in this battles difficulty.
I freaking screamed when I found out that I had to fight the professor first. And then I screamed some more because this theme is AWESOME!!!

And the battle is still in the data. Plus a while back it was revealed at one point Brock wasn't the first gym leader in Kanto. It was this evil looking kid. And the outline to his sprite is the exact same as Giovanni's in the game.
There's lots of hidden stuff in the data of Red & Blue. The 190 pokemon rumor. Crobat's cry in the data? And how when they where working on Gold & Sliver in japan back in 1997? it got delayed a year for some weird reason too.

It’s really been 6 years since Sun and Moon came out? Time sure does fly. This game reignited my love for Pokemon, and for that I respect it a ton. Love the region, love the pokemon, love the characters. I love Sun and Moon. They are my personal 3rd favorite Pokémon games
Same but after that it didn't go well with the series

Pokémon just doesn't feel right on the Switch.
He almost kicked my ass.
I almost lost.
I haven't had that happen since Cynthia.
Can we take a moment to appreciate that this game is actually pretty challenging at points?
Haley Paige Sedai oh yeah, this game doesn't care about levels, its enemies will drag you down to heir level and beat you there if your aren't on your guard
I actually lost to Lusamine because of how I underestimated this game (ima go blame my cockiness on Kalos)
Haley Paige Sedai his incineroar sweeped my team
I almost cried. I never thought I'd see the day, when pokemon was once again "difficult".
Zjura Unyielding I know right i burst into tears of nostalgia remebering Cynthia and i love it. Game Freak is the best. no questions there
Haley Paige Sedai Yep, even using the still really powerful exp share (Which thankfully isn't broken anymore, I quite like its current state) it still is a decent challenge, but totally doable without.
Linneus In platinum I always liked to imagine Rowan being the actual champion before Cynthia who the retired as a professor.
No, its he who makes the league who has to be the first champion
So disregarding the actual revelation of the professor being the one you have to take down as Champion, can we talk about how *brilliant* the reveal was that his last Pokemon was the fully evolved starter that's strong against yours? My jaw dropped. As soon as I saw he was throwing out his Decidueye, I had to end things with my Primarina. Battle of the Starters, man. One Ice Beam was all it took, but damn, the tension was high.
Oh. You're lucky.... I had to fight Kukui's Incineroar with a Decidueye. Although i just clapped him with Pelipper.

The Gr8estB8M8 but he's still not the champion...that's like saying a Togedemaru functions as a Pikachu therefore it's a Pikachu... no it's still togedemaru.
Difference is togedemaru isn't exactly like pikachu, whereas kukui functions exactly the same as a champion.
The Gr8estB8M8 Except Kuki doesn't function exactly like a champion. A champion defends their title wheras Kukui was a challenger. Also, even if two things function the exact same way that doesn't mean they are the same, they each have their own classification. My Umbreon, Salazle and Ninetails say hi.

This certainly is a one-of-a-kind end-game battle.

But more on topic and for the sake of discussion, how would you envision a Pokémon reboot?

And his snorlax was pretty annyoing too. Its sad to hear that his starter that counters yours is strong no matter who you choose :(. At least incineroar has weak defenses, primarina is just...
Lol. He had a Deciduye (or however it's spelled) for me cause I chose Popplio. I one-shot it with a Brave Bird from my Crobat. But it took me 5 minutes to beat his Snorlax alone. Wore it down with my Lilligant's Leech Seed but he had all of his Full Restores still.
My Hariyama had some difficulty defeating Inceniroar, but I had no problems with his Snorlax.

Seeing how this is the 20th anniversary and that nostalgia is in the air, I feel like this is a nod to the Generation I glitch where the player can battle the region Professor (in this case, Oak). So, now we can officially battle the region Professor.
Yeah, but this is a more serious battle. In xy, Sycamore was pretty easy, but this is the CHAMPION of the Alola region.

No it's not.
Kukui is the one challenging you, testing you.
well it's more of a who gets the honor of being the first champion of alola

ronger97 same. used to be ss & hg but not anymore
seriously, is this the first time in the series you honestly fight a professor at his full strength?
What I like about this is that, 20 years ago, they intended for Professor Oak to be the final boss of Red and Blue (you can hack the games to access the battle and he even has the final form of the leftover starter) fast forward 20 years later, and who's the final boss of Sun and Moon? The professor alongside the final form of the leftover starter.
