All-New 2024 Toyota Tacoma hybrid // i-FORCE MAX is wow, so is the price!

- This is a Motormouth couple car review of the all-new 2024 Toyota Tacoma i-FORCE MAX hybrid pickup truck. The 2024 Toyota Tacoma i-FORCE MAX is designed, engineered and assembled in North America. The i-Force Max Hybrid powertrain is a 2.4L turbocharged 4-cylinder, 326 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque. This nearly doubles the torque of the outgoing V6 model. It has a 48-horsepower electric motor integrated into the 8-speed transmission with a 1.87 kWh battery pack.
In Canada, the 2024 Toyota Tacoma i-FORCE MAX powertrain is standard on Limited, Trailhunter and TRD Pro models, it’s optional on TRD Off-road Premium. In the US, the hybrid powertrain is standard on Trailhunter and TRD Pro, optional on TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road and Limited models.
The 2024 Toyota Tacoma i-FORCE MAX interior gets significant upgrades compared to the previous model. Larger screens, better technology, the comfort level has improved drastically, and it has more features. TRD Pro models have isodynamic performance front seats to help reduce body movement, the are available in black or red. Push button start is standard on all grades and USB-C charging ports are standard in the front row, available in the rear. There’s a parcel shelf for passengers to put their phone or other small items,
Toyota says, the primary goal for the all-new 2024 Toyota Tacoma i-FORCE MAX was to be authentic to the way their customers use their trucks for rugged outdoor fun. It has a high lift, slim body and an athletic stance. Toyota wants all their trucks to have a family resemblance yet be unique in their own way.

LOL those prices omg. What is actually happening to our world. This is insane.
This truck is meant for those that want it. They are cheaper Toyotas out there, corollas are a good example for those that want cheaper transportation
@@alvinsimba734 Obviously. That's not the point though.

The point is cars have gone up an absolutely RIDICULOUS amount. In 2019 I bought a 2020 RAV4 XLE AWD for $38k incl. dealer fees, destination, taxes, and everything else. Negotiated it to $36k at the end. 60 months, 4.99% APR. In 2024, my boss is looking at the same car, $43k and god damn 6.49% APR.
@@MrBobbyBrown2006 Was going say, wth?
@@Lucky8s Greed at all levels. Every segment wanting theirs, taking advantage of well known worldwide challenges. It's beyond what ever increases due to "legitimate" inflation (from a variety of world conditions) and regulations...but those are (largely) used as"what could we do?..." misdirection smokescreen for additional increases.
My jaw hit the ground when I saw the pricing.
And that's before any fees in Canada which add another $3500 and are mandatory here.
Insane truly freek8n diesel and Denali prices 😳
Wow!! Finally a Tacoma Hybrid!! I was wondering when they are going to release this since the Tundra Hybrid is already out. Yikes!! I almost had a heart attack looking at the prices and also the competitor's prices!!
"You're rich, you drive a Tesla"
"Well, I couldn't afford a Tacoma"
The current sticker price for a Tesla 2022 is below $28,000😅
I am out of the Tacoma market now with no 6' bed in hybrid unless you get the 86K trailhunter with destination and dealer fee's.
Trailhunter CAD price = Lexus GX. I'll overland in a Lexus thanks. 🤣
Agree. Prices are getting stupid at Toyota. I’ll take the Lexus GX as well
except the PRO CAD price is much cheapter than US Counterparts lol
so I can't afford one but a guy in the office already has one and Ill be the first to say it looks lovely. Really nice. He did say, however, he thinks he is getting about 15 mpg. The Lexus, that is
I'd rather go for a lexus now toyota's pricing Is way too similar than of lexus itself.
Waaay out of my price range and I bet for a lot of other folks but, a fantastic vehicle.
You guys are great!! I enjoy all of your reviews!
Got to admit...it's pretty sweet looking and has great mechanical features. Awesome review from Canada's First Couple of Automotive News!
Cheers
Ready! Sure am ready for this video 📸🎉
Great review. I’m enjoying my 24 TRD Sport Premium more than I did my last two 3rd gen Tacoma Limited models.
Great video thanks
Fun, as always. Thanks!
Glad they added this
Great review
Awesome truck! I want a 1794 version though with black instead of chrome & saddle brown leather seats! 🔥
Wow !!, Nice looking Tacoma and the power, that what we want power on a truck, Thank You Guys for the videos have a great day.

Great video. It's wonderful that you brought back your discussions with the engineer in this context. The limited is very appealing and yes expensive, but for us, it would be this or the LC LC which is s8gnificantly more expensive or the 4Runner platinum with price TBD. Great time to be aToyota fan.
Do you know when the Tacoma Hybrid models will be available in Canada. There is no mention of Hybrid on the Toyota Canada web site.
This is a spec heavy episode. Would be helpful to put all the stats on the screen as txt.
Love the review as always, you two are the best! I'm curious though, why the GM twins, and exclude the Frontier? I would honestly consider buying the Tacoma or the Frontier, none of the others.
I don’t understand why people are so up in arms over the price of these trucks. You don’t need a TRD Pro or Trailhunter. The SR5 trim is more than enough for most people since most of these trucks don’t touch dirt anyway.
Agreed
But even an SR5 is @ $42-45K. And they’re made in Mexico with an unproven drivetrain and cheaper materials.
Turbo,I’m not sure about the added complication of the turbo, love the hybrid add, lighter trucks are a good idea .
$60K (US) for a Taco? And you don’t even get extra sauce!
Pricing is a joke. Toyota has lost its mind lol
At that price you can keep it.
Toyota company thinks we the consumers shit money 💰 prices are so out control, we all need 40% increase to pay for this kind of prices
Right
I just wish you could get the hybrid with rear coil over shocks and the big screen in a 2 door model.
And here I am struggling to pay off 20k used car load.
The Tacoma Limited does not come standard with the Adaptive Suspension as you state at about 5:55. It's an option.
Love your vehicle reviews. However we all know that if you order one of these that the wait period is usually 18 to 30 months. It is a great truck but you ,know the cost at the time of order will be very different than the cost once it finally arrives. In your stats you can add the wait time.
how come in the US 2 yr free maintenance is included and none is offered in Canada?
Too cold to do maintenance there 1/2 the time 🥶 😂
It's expensive to do business in a socialist country 😅
@@pinkisforpimpsand the US is not? 😂
@@deplorablechump8758 not as much as Canada
@@deplorablechump8758 tell me you don't know what socialism is without telling me you don't know what socialism is.
Local dealer has 3 SR5 Tacomas , $49k, $50k , $50k
after their mark ups
I prefer hybrid powered cars more than full electric powered
Will the XTRA Cab be coming to Canada? Any word? These prices are very high.
I like it. My concern is I need a mid size truck for towing a trailer. These Tacoma s are very light duty. I need at least 1200 payload capacity based on my trailer hitch weight. Just wondering what the actual payload is for this particular truck??????
Was just recently in Canada (Vancouver) and I noticed that the vast majority of Tacomas I saw there had 6 ft beds. Here in Seattle, WA it's the opposite, and I'm curious why we have more of a bias for the short bed here.
That's what Toyota USA and Canada decided. You couldn't even get the short bed sport in Canada even if you wanted with automatic
was waiting for a new hybrid Taco, but the price convinced me to keep my 2018. Will upgrade my family car instead - probably a Lexus RX350
Good review! I'm very curious how towing with hybrid powertrains will work out as I imagine this is the way forward for pickups and larger SUVs.
Can't believe the prices though, wow. Buying a pickup truck today is a massive overspend.
Middle class being priced out of market!
LOL! It's that the price for 2 trucks?
😂
2 things I would like to see improved, price and discounts.
I don't have one yet, but I really like the concept that Toyota is pursuing with their hybrid system. It makes sense to me.
NOT !!! Hybrids are supposed to get good Fuel Economy...This thing doesn't ! One more MPG over the non hybrid.. FAIL !
Like any electronic capacitance device their is a chances for a runaway thermal event especially in a concusive collision with those lithium ion batteries when they release energy all @ once keep vehicle outside away from house
NOT lithium!!
What colour are the seats
It’s a nice truck but with Greedflation out of control this truck is too much money
The age old question of buying the truck for the 345 days a year you don’t tow or are you buying for the 20 days a year you might be towing… I am leaning towards stepping down to a mid sized. However i do wonder about hauling through the Rockies or over the Coquihalla as an example…
The taco is in the full sized price range now
Look at a frontier for cheaper options or wait until Kias truck comes to the US
Get the Highlander you don't even need the Tacoma to tow or haul stuff Highlander gas version can take it on easy but better to get the V6 version!
Too bad the Access Cab went away. I liked the proportions with the 6’ bed.
Bingo!
They still have the extra cab, just no door access, which might be ok, it goes back to 90's
The extra cab without a door access sounds uncomfortable and archaic.
@@josephpanozzo4815 not sure there's any seats, it's really just for extra storage space
Tacoma is my dream.
30mm is 1.25" not 2.5
Actually it's 1.18"
@@adams5202 Yes but I didn't want to be too picky!
Can the makers of this video tell me what the payload rating of this Hybrid truck? Just look inside the doorframe. I’ve hear 1200lbs to 1700lbs. Want to get this resolved once and for all.
Likely 1200-1400 on the Limited hybrid
well done and Toyota quality...but pay for it too $$$...holy moly..would love to see a budget friendly mini truck like the old style Courier or the like come back..but alas no money to be made on them...
That’s a tough looking pick up truck. I find interior design are a very square. I like some of the exterior colours. Great show Andrea! 👏🏻👏🏻☕️☕️ 😃
Zack and Andrea, great review..... and spot on regarding the concluding rear seat and bed length comments. Also, if I recall, no rear seat AC vents--for this money? Bad especially for those of us with two or four legged kids in the US sunbelt or anywhere else with hot/muggy summers (just about anywhere).
At least it has a built-in plastic snow plow.
What do we put it into Andrea? You gotta put it in B for broke, which is exactly what you'll be when you buy a Tacoma!
Nobel prize goes to the dude who designed that from air dam. 😅😂😅😂
At this price point, the Cybertruck is a bargain
Outrageous prices. Vehicle are now for the rich and wealthy! Most of us can not afford half a hundred thousand dollars for a disposable vehicle. What happen to the $21,000 trucks, and most could afford a truck! Not anymore 😮😢
Zack, did you say Zee R2. WTH.
Did I see a hand brake? Things are looking up.
Why do all these reviews do the same thing, read the spec sheet. I can listen to the salesperson or read the spec sheet myself. The unique thing reviewers can do is provide hands on impressions and insights. What is the day-to-day difference with the Limited's All Time 4WD vs. the off-road models' part time 4WD? How would this impact snow driving? How does the ride of the AVS on the Limited compare to the various off-road suspensions in highway? Side roads? ... Can the Trail Hunter have a tonneau cover or does that rollbar thing conflict? Is the snorkle on the Trail Hunter make loud noises in the truck? Are the Limited's tires quieter that the Trail Hunter? Are the TRD Pro seats worth the extra cost? ...
Very limited time with these trucks, but when they are available for week-long test drives, we can provide more info
Minor detail but why on earth for that price wasn’t a rear armrest included? No way you’re getting three people back there anyway so middle seat comfort shouldn’t be a concern. Others have one.
Yes, this new truck is mainly to park at dealer parking lots or showroom. Not for any buyer anymore. It consider high end / Luxury truck compare to other brands. 😊
For that price just get a Frontier. Cheaper, NA proven V6 engine, reliable, and personally I think it looks better than this.
Trail Hunter with tax? $98900. TRD PRO with tax? $93,000. Ever thought you'd see the day a Toyota Tacoma cost $100,000 dollars?
The Trail Hunter is the same price as a new 2024 C8 LT1 Corvette.
I have been waiting for the new Tacoma, but Toyota has lost their mind with the pricing. Love the new truck, but it can rust on the lot, before I pay those prices. I have been a Toyota owner since 2006.
or GX?
In a weird sort of way, car dealers are forcing people to assess their needs versus wants.
This is so close for me, but not having memory seats is a deal breaker. Toyota, you added virtually every other luxury feature you could to this. Why not something as basic as memory seats? Litterally every other competitor has it now. Also, no rear vents seems like a BIG miss too. Power folding mirrors and power steering wheel adjust would have been a nice to have.
The most complicated engine ever in a Tacoma. This is flat out crazy.
The prices on these Toyota Tacoma's are insane! Add in current interest rates and I'm a big No!
I guess the car companies forgot what pretty much killed the small truck market...they got too close to the price of full size trucks. Only thing helping this time is the truly massive size of full size trucks now.
In honor of your Flag I'll quote a great Canadian Mike Myers regarding the pricing.... " Ummm Exsqueeze Me ??.... Baking Powder??? 😳
What an affordable vehicle
Have you people checked out the latest Maverick hybrid price? Remember the OG launch price of $27k? Now the bloody thing is over $35k start! WTF. If a when small Toyota truck is released… by than price could be so high. OG maverick price+size+hybrid “was” perfect. Damn. As time goes everything becoming further out of reach faster
I love Toyotas, it might be nice Toyota you built an affordable pickup? Because all I can afford is a Ford Maverick.
The new taco TRD Pro is a few grand more than the 2022 TRD Tundra which was the first year of the Tundras redesign to this platform...
No thanks I'm gonna get a Silverado with a 3.0 diesel engine, double the tow capacity, more leg space, and real leather instead of fancy vinyl for 10k less
Let's not forget the greedy underhanded dealers $10K mark up!
Problem is no one can afford one
Despite Toyota's reputation for reliability, with a new and complex powertrain, I might wait a couple of years to let them shake out issues that may arise.
Ridiculously priced no Way
...."They raised the seat height by 30 mm ...that's just over 2 and 1/2 inches"....... Ummm is there a Canadian conversion for the metric system as well as the dollar?? 30mm is about an inch and 1/4 Friendo...
Hopefully they made the same mistake on quoting the pricing because it sure sounds like DOUBLE what it should be as well..
LOL those prices
A year of watching Tacoma videos and plans to purchase one in 24/25 washed away in 30 seconds after seeing one in person.
Love your videos, I do not love the new Tacoma. Toyota trying too hard, everything is over designed inside and out. 30 seconds sitting in this truck and we crossed it off our list.
And that’s before looking at the sticker.
All that money and short little rear doors!
Ah… 75% increase in torque. At least that matches the percent increase in price! Whew.
30 mm it's just a little bit more than an inch, in fact it's 1.18
This is nuts. I have owned two Tacomas in my life and Toyota has priced me out of them. What have they done to my favorite truck?
They have made a excellent class leading mid size truck with Great power performance torque mpg comfort tech off road ability and more. Something even car and driver ranked number one and two.above all of its rivals.
Yeah, but if we can't afford it, what the hell is the point??!
2018 Taco owner here and was looking forward to this release to upgrade because the non-existent torque is frustrating, even with throttle manipulator added on. The price they are asking for is angering. They made that mistake already with the new Supra and they are constantly trying to get them off the lot where I live. I guess greedy companies don't learn. I'll just have to give up on buying the new Hybrid Taco.
I love the updated looks. Their new power plant sounds promising. But… I think Toyota is getting a little ‘optimistic’ with their current prices. Toyota used to make an amazing and amazingly affordable practical little-to-mid sized pickup. But now they are asking for what I would have thought was Toyota TUNDRA ‘Capstone’-trim money! It might just end being the ‘most impressive’ mid-size pickup that … MOST people couldn’t ever imagine affording. Thanks for the video.
I honestly don't see any advantage of a hybrid in a truck except maybe for the extra torque when under a load. The cost savings isn't there, but that might depend on the state you live in too.
Why does the HVAC controls look like a 1960's push-button car radio, and the audio no doubt is controlled by the touch screen?
30 mm 21/2"? 2.54cm per inch. 3 cm equals 1.18 or about 1 1/4"
Our bad
@@Motormouth... O verall, you did good thanks!!!
What I want to know is what is the average household income of the people buying these things. Responsible financial numbers say your vehicle shouldn't be worth more than 35% of your gross annual - there can't be that many people making $200,000 a year.
I sold my Taco to buy a Maverick and I assure you, the Mav is a superior vehicle in almost every way.
Can it go rock crawling?
@@beexiong2995 absolutely not... but neither can the Taco. Rock crawling is a way for children to break their toys.
Completely apples and oranges vehicles though (from any of these body on frame types). Depends on needs and purpose.
Different tool for a different job. The Mav is a decent truck, but it's very different from a Taco. It sounds like you bought the wrong tool for what you needed, which is why you sold one and bought a different one.
@@jeffer1101 They are both small pickup trucks, not exactly different tools. I almost exclusively drove Toyota products and liked the Taco. It just isn't as good as the Mav.
So pickup truck is no longer sensible option and something you can actually use for hauling stuff and get it dirty. Its for people looking for shiny toys.
They should make 2 door trucks again instead of these "soccer mom" models.
Cheap car sells at premium price 😂
30mm... 2 1/2 inches.... Hmm.... I think someone was still thinking about slim bodies LOL
Man, this sucks. Have a $500 deposit for a limited hybrid...ugh no thanks. For those prices I will look for a used 22 tundra hybrid. Ouch
For that price I'll buy a super duty! Too much for a toy.
The moment it said "assembled in North America" it went off my list. Burned once, I will not be buying another UAW product.
By virtue of the asking price I do believe that’s going to be a low production truck.
Tfl was not impressed with this truck. The acceleration in it was unremarkable and the truck gained so much weight from the new motor and the battery it bogged down the 😮 bhp upgrade. And it's only 2mpg better then previous year. 65k before markups and tax and destination fees.
