    "She's the Darkest of Angels"
    "Do You Have it in you to make it Epic?"
    I've seen Furiosa in Dolby Cinema Twice Now.
    Anya Taylor Joy and Chris Hemsworth are So Good in This.
    1 to 1 Comparison of Fury Road & Furiosa Below.
    📜 Script Wise, Furiosa is Superior to Fury Road.
    1. Furiosa(The Movie) has the Build of a Young Furiosa all the way up to Adult Furiosa and it's Very Good. How She met Immortan Joe etc. It also Feels more Expansive, doing little Bits of Exploring of 3 Locations (Gastown, Bullet Farm & The Citadel).
    2. Fury Road is Furiosa Steals the 5 Wives, "Bumps" into Max, Tells Max that they're Heading to "The Green Place", Max Realises that "The Green Place" isn't there, and all of this is happening whilst Immortan Joe and his Army are Chasing Them across the Desert.
    🎨 Visuals, it's a Tie.
    1a. Both Fury Road and Furiosa have Some Stunning Visuals, Both have Amazing Colour Palettes. Both have the Light Blue Sky Coupling the Orange Sand Shots. The Sandstorm Scene in Fury Road and That Blue Scene in Fury Road Looked so Good.
    1b. The Very Ending of Furiosa when she is Beating Up Dementus and there is a Shot when her Neck was Amped Up with Veins Popping & Strong, Such a Breathtaking Shot.
    🎭 The Characters. It's Too Tough to Call. It's Another Tie.
    1a. Fury Road has the 5 Wives who Certainly Add much to the film both performance wise and plot wise, it has Of Course Max who is Definitely Missed in Furiosa, it has Charlize Therons' Furiosa, it has Nux, it has a More Significant Performance by Immortan Joe.
    1b. Furiosa has Furiosas' mother (Excellent Opening), it has Chris Hemsworth as Dementus who is Very Charismatic in this, it has Immortan Joe but he's not as Prominent in this, it Has Anya Taylor Joy as Furiosa (She's better than Charlize Therons' Furiosa in my opinion, "you fabulous thing" as Dementus Puts it). It has Immortan Joes 2 Sons. And it has Praetorian Jack.
    💥 The Action Scenes - Fury Road Wins. Furiosa has Spectacular Action Scenes too but Fury Road has More of them.
    Just to name a few.
    1. The Bike Jumping Scene in Fury Road, the Guitar Guy 🎸, the Pole Vaults in Fury Road, the Max Fighting Furiosa and the 5 Wives near the start of Fury Road.
    2. Furiosa does have some Amazing Action, The Parachute Scene, The Sniper Scene & Dementus on top of the Tower Scene.
    🎬 Bonus. I noticed that some of the Camera Work was Excellent in Furiosa. The Scene with Furiosas' Mother Captured and "The History Man" in the Foreground & Furiosas' Mother in the Background Tied Up, the Camera Does this Stunning Quick Change of Lens and i just thought it was Brilliant Camera work.
    ⌛ The Endings. Fury Road Wins. The Epic Ending in Fury Road when the Citadel realise that Immortan Joe is Dead and the "Let them up chant" & the Score in that moment. You just can't Beat that.
    If you've got Furiosa Over Fury Road, I'm not going to argue, and if you've got Fury Road over Furiosa, I'm also not going to argue. They're 2 Masterworks imo.
    Overall, They're 2 Outstanding Pieces of Artistry within Cinema. 1 tips the Scales in Story & 1 Tips the Scales in Action.

    My take on the underperformance of Furiosa is that this movie is the epic drum solo of cinema. Drums are absolutely integral to any piece of music, and there are many drummers and examples of percussion that are genius. Cannot be denied. But only a tiny subset of the world wants to endure epic drum solos. What I see on social media is a meltdown of people who adore epic drum solos and absolutely cannot understand how the rest of the world isn't as in love with epic drum solos as they are. "You people say you want great music! Why aren't you going to see this drum solo concert???"

    • @pureevilfnord
      @pureevilfnord 4 місяці тому +2

      I feel Fury Road was more of a drum solo. It was distilled down to the base whereas Furiosa hits a lot of different tones.

    • @theonlyever
      @theonlyever 4 місяці тому

      For this analogy to connect you’d need to identify what the drum is, and what instruments are missing. Right now it just sounds like you’re saying people who love Furiosa love it, and those who don’t love it don’t. Are you saying it does one thing really well, and is completely lacking other elements, not to mention cohesion as a whole?

    • @VictorDiGiovanni
      @VictorDiGiovanni 4 місяці тому

      I'm saying all of those things. Like a drum solo, it becomes monotonous and tedious after the first five to ten explosions and dozen cars tumbling across orange sand. After twenty or thirty, you decide it's an okay time to go take a bathroom break and not worry about hurrying back. Then you walk back in just in time to see "4 Lessons From the Wasteland" and your heart sinks because you know there's still also a part 5. But you stick out the next fifty explosions and smash zooms to a driver coming over a dune.
      I get it. Some people can't get enough of this stuff. It's indeed action at the highest peak of the craft. But, mercy. It's two hours of drum solos. "But it's not all the same! That second one was mostly hi hats! And the sixth one was all cymbals! There's never been a cymbal solo before! You just don't appreciate music! "
      I'm not saying anyone shouldn't enjoy the things they love. But Mad Max fans need to realize that what they love is a niche product. If you saw Fury Road, you knew if you'd enjoy Furiosa. You can dismiss my analogy all you want, but the audience spoke this weekend. It didn't want another epic drum solo.
      You aren't wrong for loving these movies. But the ones who stayed away aren't wrong either. People are allowed to have different tastes. We all love things others despise. Just check out any random Letterboxd member's top four films. People love the worst stuff.

      @hannsrhinesdale9769 4 місяці тому +1

      I see what you mean but I have to disagree because to me Furiosa is epic and a very well crafted piece of art, in my opinion. It works for me on every single level.
      When speaking in music analogies, I'd rather compare it to a sprawling opening overture of a concept album, haha. Followed by a more focused banger as the second song but each has its merrits and they work together beautifully.
      As with everyrhing it's not for everone and the franchise may not hit the Zeitgeist of the masses but that was never ever a seal of quality. Quite the contrary, imo.

    • @VictorDiGiovanni
      @VictorDiGiovanni 4 місяці тому

      @@hannsrhinesdale9769 I'm open to any analogy that properly evokes "droning and monotonous after the first 30 minutes". Like I said, for what they are intending, Fury Road and Furiosa are masterpieces, or at least the apex of the genre. The craft cannot be denied, and for fans of this genre, these movies are 10/10. My contention is that the reason for the huge underperformance is that to the rest of the world, these action movies are drum solos or concept album overtures. The outrage against the stupid movie-goers who aren't turning out in blockbuster numbers is massively misplaced. There's actually no outrage that should be sent anywhere. The filmmakers made exactly the movie they wanted to make. The fans of that type of movie came out in full capacity on opening weekend. It's just that the full capacity for the long haul is going to be about $200 million less than is needed to break even after marketing. Fury Road FAR exceeded its ceiling. Furiosa is exactly what the market for this film looks like. Sorry, drum solo aficionados, but your ascension to mainstream popularity isn't going to happen.

    Hemsworth's character was not just another guy. His failures were based around the idea that a charismatic leader will only be successful for so long. That was the point. It all fell apart around him simply because he was all talk. His opening loss ( at the citadel ) is hilarious and also indicative of just how ineffective his rule would be

      I think his character is also very reflective of a marauding, Viking-type leader giving up raiding and trying to govern and ultimately failing at it. I instinctively feel Jeff is 100% correct in his saga confusion. However, let's see what the internet says:
    Saga:
    a long, involved story, account, or series of incidents.
    any narrative or legend of heroic exploits.
    a form of the novel in which the members or generations of a family or social group are chronicled in a long and leisurely narrative.
    a dramatic history of a group, place, industry, etc.:
    any very long story with dramatic events or parts:
    I don't like it, but I guess "A Mad Max Saga" is technically correct-ish.

    One other comment. 90% of the outrage at the underperformance takes the tone of "This is a great movie! What more do people want???" with the implication that people went to see this movie, then retroactively also are responsible for the LACK of ticket sales. The people who wanted to see this film DID go see it. I was ultimately totally bored, but I went and saw it. I'm $10 of the $31 million. The giant box office crater where the Furiosa audience should be was from people deciding ahead of time they weren't interested. So you can't blame people for not going to see a movie they didn't think they were going to like. Every week there are a dozen movies at the theater or streaming, and dozens of TV shows that I don't watch because I don't want to, for any of the hundred reasons I might have. Clearly, a lot of people saw Fury Road eight years ago. Also clearly, a large chunk of those people said, "Yeah, nah, I'm good," when the prospect of more of it was offered to them. That's not a lack of discernment or lack of taste. That's an audience indicating they've seen all they need to see. "It's like Mad Max" is a selling point that has hit its ceiling. We're also clearly at the end of "It's like John Wick" era. We're at the end of "Wow! another interconnected MCU film!" era. We've all got lots and lots and lots of all of it at home. It's like the 1000 prepper meals in my backyard shed at 10am on Jan 1, 2000. I've got piles and piles of movies and TV shows that I won't ever get to, so you have to really convince me why I'm going to go see another Mad Max film in a theater.

    Agree mostly. The young Furiosa casting was brilliant, but i felt Anya Taylor Joy didn't quite nail it for me. I think it's because I couldn't help but keep thinking about this character becoming the Charlize Theron version and that performance was just so badass, she comes across as feeble in comparison. She just doesn't have that swagger and physicality. And yes the vfx reallly took me out, the Fury Road effects were seriously seamless and there are shots which still linger in my mind. And Chris Hemsworth was miscast tbh I'd much prefer a lesser known actor in this role. I think the high camp is ok just not evil Thor, with the hair and cape and all. And it was way too long, could've been tighter, it felt a bit overblown whereas Fury Road was just a ride. It just made me want to watch it again. Actually for me the best part was probably the ending, visceral and poignant. I hope there's a part 3 and with a grizzled Charlize or an older actor like a Carrie-Ann Moss would be awesome.
