  • thanks to some excellent content I watched on UA-cam I decided to have a go at the Lidl glider conversion, as it was on sale the last week.
    I opted for pitcheron and the ambition was to also pack it back into the original box for ease of transportation.
    This is my take on it, now waiting for the windy day.
    Comments are welcome , as we are all continuously learning.
    Thanks for watching!

    Late to the party, but getting ready to do a similar conversion. It looks like you did some clever things with the wings and the horizontal stabilizer. A build video would have been of interest. Nice job!

      Hi, and thanks. Haven't flown that bird in a while now.
      It's nothing fancy, the stabilizer is fixed, the wing mix does all the control.

      @@saxxonian Ahhh, may have been 'nothing fancy', but I was interested in your horizontal stab attach (magnet?) and your wing joint/pivot. I liked the portable idea, as I'll build it in Missouri, but fly it in SoCal.

    How does it fly, no flying video? Great simple approach to rc conversion. Thanks for the video.

      Hi RedJohn! 😉
      Unfortunately I never filmed a flight, couldn't hold a phone AND fly.
      The plane has been retired after a mishap in sea water. 😆
      Would I build it again? Definitely.
      There are some great videos our there with the exact same config.

    Nice job ! How did you proceed for the axis of the wing without making a cut but keeping the alignment? T.Y.

    • @saxxonian
      @saxxonian  2 роки тому +1

      Thank you!
      When I cut the wing into it's three sections i made sure those cuts were absolutely perpendicular to the wing's main axis. Then i used that as a reference to perpendicularly drill the holes. I used a properly sized carbon fiber tube with a jagged end to do the drilling.

    Nice detailed build. Regarding the elastic band attaching to the white fixture on the wings - which white fixture did you use and how did you attach the white fixture to the wings?

      Thanks. It was good fun modding it.
      Those are some mushroom shaped plastic bits, from some discarded furniture, could be they covered some screws or bolts. You could also use some kind of light weight hook of sorts, I just happened to have those. They are just glued in place in a hole.

    How do you set up the transmitter? I am building something similar and i don't know how to set up my transmitter. Thanks!

      @saxxonian  2 роки тому +1

      Hi, haven't bothered filming it.
      There's plenty of clips showing tem flying.
      Remember, this wasn't my idea at all, I just applied what I learned.

    Nice quick build. What size CF did you use...? Will a 3mm work?

    • @saxxonian

      I wouldn't know, all you want is as little flex as possible.
      Personally I used a plastic knitting needle that I picked up in a charity shop. A whole bunch, actually, for less than a Pound. (UK)

    The pivot point from leading edge?

    • @saxxonian
      @saxxonian  3 місяці тому

      @@Sandokans ideally you want it to be at the CG. I'd say about 1/3 in from the leading edge. I decided mine after mounting all servos and battery and receiver, etc.

  • @paulsharpe3794
    @paulsharpe3794 6 років тому +2

    Great video just one thing when powering the receiver the transmitter should be on first this is so there is a control signal to stop the servos randomly moving and possibly damaging themselves or the model

    My guess is everything would have to be slotted and glued in place because you can't drill a straight line at least I wouldn't want to try it .....besides mine has to be fiberglass Epp taped and ready for dynamic soaring ... mine's going to be a strong build

    • @saxxonian
      @saxxonian  2 роки тому

      The drilling I did with a carbon fibre spar, slotted on one end.
      The method I learned from Andrew Newton's channel, works like a charm.

  • @novatriio

    Superb work, just what I'm thinking of doing with mine. Could you give a little more detail on what you used for the wing spar/pitcheron tubes? Do the wire pushrods go straight in to the EPP of the wing or in to something that stops the EPP enlarging through use? And are you using a 5v regulator or putting the lipo (1s/2s?) straight in to the receiver? Many thanks!

    • @saxxonian
      @saxxonian  6 років тому +1

      Andrew Hi, thank you! I will have to build another one, so I might film the process.
      Till then, browsing charity shops I bought a handful of aluminium knitting pins of different diameters. One of them fitted snug into a plastic straw, it became the spar, the straws are inserted into the wing halves. The piano wire pushrods go into an inch of tube from a WD40 can.
      The battery is a 750mAh 1S I bought for a small quad, goes directly into the receiver. No idea yet about flight time on a charge.

      mountaindewdude76 Hi, thank you, it's only my take on it, not sure who came up with the idea first. It's sold by Lidl, a German chain of supermarkets, available in some parts of Europe, and they don't stock it. When it's in the store, it's there for a week even if they didn't sell, I don't think one can order them before or after.
      You can check here: www.lidl.co.uk
