I really appreciate you going in depth with Sweet Tooth being Joker's best opponent for Death Battle when it comes to surviving some of his one shot moves. As unconventional as that matchup is, it really was a stroke of genius and didn't rely on popular requests. Also damn, going out of your way to find and interview Don to clear up one of the biggest urban legends of the show's history, now THAT is dedication to research!
In terms of "canon episode to Red vs. Blue", it's a yes... and a no. Let me explain. The Meta vs. Carolina took place during Season 14 of Red vs. Blue... which was a nothing season; it was just a compilation of skits made by various people, almost none of it being canon to the overall story. So yes, Meta vs. Carolina is an episode of the show... while not being canon at the same time.
It’s a 50/50 on that canonicity from what I’ve seen Really, the only parts of season 14 that feel 100% canon to me is the backstory for the blood gulch crew, like how they arrived before the show’s pilot.
I feel Tracer vs Scout heavily nerfs Scout and buffs Tracer. why do they use so many ingame feats for Scout and so little for Tracer? why does Scout only have the mischaracterized Bonk other than his stock loadout? why does he die to an explosion despite surviving three explosives launched directly at his face while he's injured? overall it kinda just put a bad taste in my mouth
I am so glad Rachet and Clank vs Jak and Daxter is getting more appreciation, the episode is just so fun to me, even if I got no connection to any of the characters. And hearing all the background stuff with the animation for Mewtwo vs Shadow is really insightful, it's a shame the animator was dealt a tough hand for arguably one of my favorite match ups, or at least one with one of my favorite characters
I feel that the main reason people give extra praise to the sound design and impact in Hulk vs Broly is because the sound design and impact are consistently felt in EVERY...SINGLE...HIT. The other examples of impactful sound design in previous episodes of the show which you showed are indeed, well, impactful, but they are also intented stand-out moments. In most episodes prior to Hulk vs Doomsday, there were usually 2 or 3 moments like these (some of them weren't even relying on sound design to be impactful), even Goku vs Superman 1, which technically had a looooot of stand-out impactful moments, also had lots of more ordinary, for a lack of a better term, choreography in between them. That's not a bad thing, a fight is not just a bunch of moments slapped together and thr stand-out moments require a form of established structure for the rest of the fight in order to...well,...stand out, but in Hulk vs Doomsday EVERY...SINGLE...HIT feels impactful, which fits the theme of the matchup, that being raging destruction. In terms of the episode's popularity and praise of the highly impactful action, this could be partially caused by Hulk vs Broly and its significantly less impactful sound design (and yes, perhaps Nem's and Biff's reviews as well). In terms of Hulk vs Broly when compared to Hulk vs Doomsday, the sound design comparison makes sense, but you gould argue that due to the different natures of both matchups, impact is more important in Hulk vs Doomsday than in Hulk vs Broly, which is characterised more by scale. The way the two matchups differentiate is even more apparent when we look at the tracks of the two episodes. Hulk vs Doomsday has a track that feels powerful, destructive and energetic because the thematoc connections between Hulk and Doomsday are about raging power and destruction. Hulk vs Broly has Ikari, a track that means both "anger" and "anchor" and it combines lyrics that represent the rage and power both characters possess with a soft melody that represents them suppressing their uncontrollable rage and hiding it from a world that despises them. In other words, despite what some people might try to argue, no, the two tracks should not just be compared simply based on how impactful they are. I have a similar argument agaibst people who compare the destruction in Wonder Woman vs She-Ra to the one in Wonder Womsn vs Thor. The matchups are not similar. Wonder Woman vs Thor is a battle of god-like beings, Wonder Woman vs She-Ra is a battle of powerful sword-wielding warrior princesses. The difference in scale between the two matchups should be a bit obvious in my opinion. I'm curious what you'll bring up about those 2 episodes in your future season 7 video. If this comment right here inspires or impacts any of your takes in that video, feel free to credit me if you wish. Interestingly enough, considering the difference in rubble between the Hulk's two episodes and how Hulk vs Broly was clearly trying to match a DBS-like style, this could be involved in an interesting discussion about how a lot of modern media are trying to be both bigger and "cleaner" than what came before. In terms of the bus dropkick, although your critisism is understandable, I'd argue that since Hulk's arms were already positioned in front of him holding the bus, both Hulk's arms and the bus would realiatically lessen the impact of Doomsday's dropkick. Admittedly enough, logical sense doesn't automatically make the scene better, but we do actually see the Hulk getting a bit taken back by the dropkick in the exact next shot, whereas the previous kick caight the Hulk off-guard. Hey, if you are going to bring up Tails being barely visible as an argument for Luigi's punch having any effect on him, I believe that the Hulk very clearly reacting to Doomsday's dropkick can be used as a counterargument as well. Also, did you just disrespect the mighty PUUUUUUUSH KICK!?! Did you just descride it as "a little kick"? We who watch Godzillarex approve of that NOT! How dare you. If we were in the same room, you would see me pointing angrily and disappointingingly at you. Shame. Shame! Am I the only one not bothered by the ordinary human models? It feels like a stylistic choice similar to Balrog vs Tj Combo.
Big DC and Danganronpa fan here Junko could definitely work off Joker’s arsenal through the final punishment and that she can use Monokuma units as little minions for Joker to use his one-shot type weapons against Also yes it’s a very good MU, personally my favorite ever.
To be fair, Monokuma kinda stomps Joker, so I think if they did Junko vs. Joker, it would need to be without Monokuma. Which imo is fine because the Danganronpa 3 anime and Danganronpa Zero gave Junko enough to show how she could be on her own. Joker has the gadgets and the cunning, while Junko has the intelligence and speed. It's a really hard matchup to analyse, because of their different specialties, but that's also why I love it. It's moreso a battle of the brains, of the two regular people who singlehandedly can bring down society as we know, and whose views on the world are so incredibly twisted that the fight dynamic would be incredible. If they wanted to give Joker Monokumas to destroy during the fight, give him UDG Monokuma units, as they're way more manageable
Honestly, even if Shadow does get his memories erased, it still shouldn't stop him from fighting. In Sonic Heroes (a game where he has amnesia) the first thing he does when Rouge finds him is protect her from Omega's shooting.
if you want my personally assumption on why People believe Hulk VS Doomsday is the most destructive and impactful episode, I think its because the city destruction felt more standout during its time??? Since the destruction interacting with the setting lasts for most of the entire episode, While other episodes mainly build up to that destruction until the final act. Like Goku VS Superman, He-Man VS Lion-O, Chuck VS Segata, Ken VS Terry, and others. Tho I would prefer the Destruction slowly builds up and not just thrown in the first and then *Beeg Explosion with even more meatier Punches.* But Honestly, I honestly really like Hulk VS Doomsday. Not just because of *Beeg Explosions and Meatier Punches,* but also how creative they interact with the setting. Hulk using the Police Car as Boxing Gloves, Doomsday throwing the Bus and Foot Diving through it, The Fight is Pure Eye Candy with all the rubble, and the Building getting destroyed are what sell its destructive aspect, and the Death is also really good. I don't think Hulk VS Doomsday is overrated, but I don't think its peak. I just find it really fun to watch *Muscle Men just destroying everything with adrenaline music.*
I'm honestly really enjoying your reviews of this show I enjoy so much! Looking forward to your reviews for the remaining seasons in the coming months, especially the modern punching bag that is Season 7 and how you think of the highly-praised Seasons of 6, 8, and 9.
This is a great video! I do wanna say though that towards why Ramona was deemed the aggressor and why Sonic was there was because he's actually the reason why that Scott and Ramona get knocked off stage since he bursts through the room which leads Ramona to believe that Amy attacked her. I also disagree a little bit here and there on some episodes but i can always enjoy hearing other people's takes Thank you for the reviews! Can't wait to watch more!
1:13:27 I feel absolutely no shame in finding Ragna's analysis funny after you pretty much called me a moron for loving one of my all-time favorite Death Battles that I have a stronger personal connection with than any others in the series aside from Goku vs Superman 3. I scored Stitch vs Rocket pretty much the same as what you gave Hulk vs Doomsday and you don't see me screaming at people for giving it 9's and 10's out of ten. Bullying an episode that everyone else loves doesn't make you gangsta, they're just opinions.
34:13 Junko should be durable enough to survive the acid and buzzer but not the Joker venom. I believe that Junko vs Joker is a good matchup because its actually close and has decent connections.
@jackhamilton9604 For how close it is both should get from city block to town and around light speed so stats are equal, both have ways to end the fight instantly, Joker has the Joker Venom while Junko has a Monokuma army of 10^60 which could just crush Joker instantly. For the connections, I don't know every single one but the main ones are psychotic murders who are master manipulators that have a detective as a rival and cause mass destruction.
Danganronpa fan here: Honestly Junko Enoshima doesn't seem like she'd do well in Death Battle in general unless she has her Monokumas by her side. Her biggest feats in terms of combat potential is mass brainwashing and some pretty high resistance for a teenage girl, though even the latter is debatable as the feat is her surviving getting crushed by a fire truck, but in the same cutscene she gets crushed to death by a crusher. So if it's just Junko it's a easy stomp on Joker's part, but if she has her Monokumas it's a lot closer
@@JonathanFrostathan Potentially, as the weaker ones made en masse have been shown to have a particular weakness to electricity, so his hand buzzer is a good weapon against them (also the thought of him high-fiving or slapping on in the face and them just exploding is pretty funny.) Other then that, I'm not thinking of anything else. Outside of combat potential I do think Junko and Joker would have a fun dynamic though, with the two making quippy jokes and trying to out-manipulate the other.
Tf2's scaling is kinda insane for a fps. There is a cloud creation feat that is calced at large town lvl. There are particle weapons wich all the mercs can react to wich puts them at Relativistic speeds, Scout with bonk can dodge one point blank range wich is FTL+ Yeah tf2 scaling is way higher than even i thought.
Honestly Junko might be able to survive Joker’s stuff. She’s survived punishments she used to execute others before so I wouldn’t completely discount it. Not saying she does definitely, just it could be worth looking into.
Ok so, season 3. I have various complicated feelings towards this season, a lot of them coming from nostalgia. The way a lot of people, even Frostathon himself, see season 1, I see season 3. To elaborate, I will talk about all the episodes that give me things to say, both good and the opposite of good. -Dante vs Bayonetta. First of all, Dante wins GRAAAAHHhHhHH!!! (Me just joking) Second of all, hoo boy is this episode special. Starting off with my personal attachment, this was the first episode where I caught it on its premiere date. Up until that, I watched a couple episodes such as DK Vs Knuckles, Kirby Vs Buu and the Pokémon Battle Royale, but this is the first time I was waiting for an episode and watched it the day it came out. And it was glorious. To this day I consider this to be the best thing Torrian ever animated. Not just for Death Battle. But in his entire career. Yeah. But there is one thing you didn’t talk about that I felt like talking about. The new “FIGHT” logo. When Bayo and Dante were fighting before the logo dropped, I was confused, but then that sick redesigned logo with the more realistic design and metallic sound effects, and the better vocal delivery, came in and my 9 year old ass popped off. God I love this episode. Second favorite of the show. Now onto an episode I have a much less favorable opinion of. -Bowser vs Ganon Yeahhh. This comes as a surprise to absolutely nobody. Anyone who has talked to me in this space knows how salty I am over this episode. Even if I have mellowed out quite a bit, yeah I am still salty as hell. Bowser is my favorite villain in all of fiction, and next to SpongeBob SquarePants and Shovel Knight (who I will talk about in the NEXT retrospective because DEAR GOD, do I have words to say on him), my favorite characters Death Battle has ever used (as a side note, if you could name drop every member of the Order of No Quarter in the Shovel Knight vs Scrooge section of the Season 4 vid that would be pepega). So imagine how I feel when my boy gets shit on as hard as he does. Admittedly his analysis is good, and the end clip is perfect, but the fight? HOOOO BOY. The pacing is garbage. Bowser doesn’t get to use any of his cool abilities. Just smash moves, the clown car, hammers and big. Where are his troops? Where is his cool magic? Where is his boisterousness? Where is my boy Bowser? And Ganon is also not great. Only using smash moves and a Jojo pose is not a good look. And the death sucks, with it being NOT HOW THE CURSES OR DRY BOWSER WORK AT ALL GRAAAAHHH!!! And the conclusion just hurts. The curse from Ganon doesn’t work like that. The Black Hole and Lava are not equivalent. The fucking Holy Weapons AAAAAAAAA! God I hate this episode more the more I talk about it. It honestly might be one of my least favorites of the show for entirely personal and petty reasons. Pleeeeeeease give me Bowser Vs Eggman this season. PLEEEEAAASE! Now onto an episode that I have similar feelings towards but so much less to say. -Mewtwo Vs Shadow Ugggggggggghhhhhhhh. This matchup is so good. It deserved so much better. I admit that hearing Don’s personal account makes me fell a little bit less hatred for this episode (to the point where I might honestly say that Bowser Vs Ganon is worse) but yeah it still sucks ass. The analyses are mid, the fight has broken pacing, Shadow’s characterization hurts me, and the goddamn spoon. On a somewhat related note, Me and me buddies are making our own versus show where one of the episodes is a remake of this travesty to hopefully make it not suck. It’s called Death Battle Infinity and you should totally check it out when it begins later this year (if you can be shameless with promotions than so can I!). So yeah this episode sucks. -Meta vs Carolina This episode is so good. It makes Red vs Blue look so fun and unique. My talking about this is almost entirely saying how Slingshot slaps and the time stop scene is one of my favorite of the show. The line reads from Church and Carolina as the latter rockets forward with everything she has, the stopping of the music, it swelling as Meta’s super impactful hit is landed. Gives me chills every time. -The Joker vs Sweet Tooth I have big Nostalgia for this episode. I get all of its problems but I just do not care. The analyses are honestly some of my favorites ever. Joker is so fun throughout. Sweet Tooth is also really fun. And the ending is so good. Lucas Schuneman really gets to shine as he revels in the slime of every word he says. It’s so good you guys. -Deadpool vs Pinkie Pie I just feel bad for this one. I want to like it so bad because parts of it are good. I like Pinkie’s analysis a good amount (slur notwithstanding). But everything about it is just so rushed. DP and Pinkie Pie becoming friends happens way too fast, and they spend way too little time in the other episodes. God I want another episode to do what this did only better. Pleeeeease And that’s all I have to say about this season. While I personally like it a lot, as a whole it’s not great. I prefer it to season 1 and even 7, but I understand all of its flaws. If you are reading the far in, thanks for staying for my inane ramblings. See you in the next retrospective where I complain about Scrooge McDuck vs Shovel Knight way too much because I am petty.
1:00:07 No lie when I saw one of my most wanted (being Ken vs Terry) I was so fricking happy with the episode and still are. Death battle has only done 2 (three at the moment with Chosen Undead vs LDB) And seeing Ken vs Terry a fight with so much personality and charm to it now getting more love then when it came out made me so much more happy to be an original adore of it
This was a weird season in retrospect. I wouldn’t say it is the “worst” season but I think I have similar feelings towards Season 2 though the lowest of the lows weren’t as low as Season 2 and the highest of the highs wasn’t as high as Season 2. Now here is one point that I am surprised that I didn’t brought up earlier and that is the fact that a lot of the underwhelming matches in this season are actual match ups I really do like, but that isn’t the fault of the match up but how it is presented. I think a Bowser vs Ganon or a Shadow vs Mewtwo would be amazing episodes with the right hands or time or direction. As is, Bowser vs Ganon was underwhelming and Shadow vs Mewtwo is just… bad. Not saying I want a rematch of these fights, I would much prefer a rematch with Sol and Ragna before those but I already made that rant, and I would prefer other match ups for these characters like Mewtwo vs Magneto, Shadow vs Bass.EXE (Battle Network), and of course, the inevitable Bowser vs Eggman, which isn’t a match up I am a big fan of but I dig it for the legacy aspect. Though Sonya vs Cammy does suck. I never got the appeal of an MK vs SF besides “popular fighting game series” that, in my opinion, have nothing in common, completely different tones and philosophies, and are just not compatible at all. And as a huge Twisted Metal fan, I did always found Sweet Tooth vs Joker to be an odd match but I feel like Joker can only have odd match ups thanks to his nature, even Green Goblin, who was my wanted match up for Joker, is kind of a weird match up in retrospect thanks to all the things you pointed out in the video, but regardless of all of that, yea, looking back, I think I like the episode more then I did before, which was “meh” but not I can appreciate the episode more.
Yeah, Junko got launched into space and smashed into the ground with likely the same amount of force that reduced a guy to nothing but a skeleton, got bludgeoned by rapid fire baseballs striking her all over her body at a machine gun pace, getting ran through a motorcycle wheel at a speed that turned a larger boy into literal butter, had a firetruck dropped on her head, and was repeatedly struck upside the head by an excavator at rapid speed, and didn't die until she got splattered into mush by a massive crusher. She could tank most of Joker's gear no sweat, though the venom would probably do the trick, even if she'd probably kill him while laughing to death.
Personally, I feel like Hulk vs. Doomsday should've been the season Finale. With the way their schedule was set up they probably would've known about the delays with their other videos in time to shuffle their fights around. Pushing Zoro/Erza and Deadpool/P.Pie ahead would've given HvD some more time in the oven to iron out more of it's issues and it would've made for a solid Finale
Junko is surprisingly durable being able to survive being crushed by a fire truck and bulldozer and was able to survive something that completely liquefied someone with more body mass then her she's also incredibly smart and qrafty but I still think Joker stomps because DC go brrrrr
Really good video with takes I mostly agree with (minus the one I had an info dump on, but it’s basically a nonissue and I’m also rethinking a lot of what I said so shhhh) Yeah Season 3 was… rough, and I really liked how the video had the overall theme of painting this as sort of a transitional season Can’t wait for season 4!
29:35 His best matchup is Junko Enoshima fight me Edit: oh ya actually brought it up lmao. Well anyways, it's a fantastic matchup banter and characterisation wise, they have many parallels and rivalling aspects (insanity and manipulativeness on the highest degree, but while one's insanity is derived from chaos and its joys, the other strives on despair.);etc etc. that's the short end of it. As for whether she could survive the Joker's tricks. She could definitely survive the two things sweeth tooth did. Her endurance is shown to be superhuman repeatedly, she does survive fatal electricity AND extreme pressure are the same time, along with fire, being hit on the head by an excavator, being belted by a baseball machine at extreme speeds all within a short span of time before or after the earlier mentioned feat. Whether she could survive Joker Venom tho... That's debatable. She'd probably have access to a single Monokuma unit and some of her execution tech to make this more interesting because otherwise she's just a really fucken strong and smart psycho so there is a chance she could just outrange, but also considering some of the mind fuckery that happens in the DR series there is a non zero chance she'd be immune to it. After all she did manufacture a set of videos that managed to turn entire classrooms of the smartest, strongest, most talented and mystical students in the world into psychos who worshipped her. Hell her phone has some of those videos. That being said... It's still not the best matchup ever cause as you said, it's hard to work in characters like Junko and The Joker into death battle
Yeah Junko is a really good opponent for Joker her Durabilty Likely at least Large Town level, possibly far higher (Took "The Ultimate Punishment", which involved feats such as being electrocuted with enough force to liquefy, being hit by speeding trucks while being burned alive, getting hit by countless baseballs at machine-gun fire rate, pounded by an excavator, sent into space and forcefully brought down all before dying under a crusher. Just one of them was enough to easily kill the likes of Mondo Owada) | At least Large Town level | At least Multi-City Block level+ as Virus Monokuma (has also near infinite replacements), Unknown as Alter Ego Junko and with all of Junko’s abilities she can prob win but Joker has a lot of stuff to so ima say Neither Extreme diff the winner would be bloody/Beaten up
This was a great video. I'm currently binging all of your Death Battle season videos so far and they're really good. BTW I believe in Amy Rose vs Ramona Flowers during the scene where Amy destroys all the Ramona clones off-screen I think was a reference to Scott Pilgrim, where Scott takes down a bunch of stunt doubles of Romana's 2nd Evil Ex, Lucas Lee, off screen while the camera is focusing on Lucas walking away.
I feel like Shadow vs Mewtwo is like a prime candidate for a remade down the line, probably after characters like Blaze and Chaos get an episode and after others get a rerun like Sonic, Knux, and Eggman. Cause honestly this is one of my favorite mu, Sonic and Pokémon are my top 2 series', and both Shadow and Mewtwo are amongst my favorites of their Series. Honestly im loving this retrospective series
Sonic has had three episodes (2 game and one Archie), so idk about him needing a runback, but Eggman's return should be happening soon if it's not gonna be in this season, and Blaze and Chaos would be very cool to see.
@Jonathan Frostathan honestly with the Cypher wheel Chaos and Eggman are likely, Chaos more so, maybe Chaos vs Kyogre can give an actually good Sonic vs Pokémon episode
@@JonathanFrostathan hey, if batman can be brought back four fucking times (and lets face it, they're going to bring him back again, whether we want them to or not) so can Shadow
The crew THEMSELVES seem reluctant to do stomp matches when they see them on the Ballot Banter. Despite the fact that... y'know... Korra vs Storm, Omni-Man vs Homelander and SpongeBob vs Aquaman exist.
@JonathanFrostathan another argument for the stomp complaint is that if the episode wasn't that memorable in the first place and they make it seem that the loser had a chance when they were (by their own logic) massively weak it sours an already mid experience
As a Cammy player in Street Fighter, I am a little more biased against Cammy vs Sonya. Why did they have to rub in her death, it dragged on for too long and was painful to watch Cammy vs Leona when? Also, when’s the next TF2 episode? Spy vs Agent 47 when?
I did the same for Dante vs Bayonetta watching it like a million times, and Ratchet and Clank vs Jack and Daxter got me to retake interest in Ratchet n clank since i was a kid.
At the time of Bayo vs Dante, we only had Bayo 2 and DMC4. Which pushes Dante to victory overall by giving him another person to scale against besides the grunts and Vergil: Nero. DMC4 shows that the two are relatively equal in power in base, but that Dante's larger arsenal and fighting styles gives the edge. DMC5 adds a lot more to this even while Nero himself gets some new toys there too. Bayo 3 gives her new tricks too, and scaling to Viola, but neither really help much? Especially not with the absurd power spike in DMC5 with Sin DT, Devil Sword Dante, Cavaliere, and so on. Sure, he loses Quicksilver, but in a DB scenario he'd still have it. I don't agree with him having Yamato in that fight looking back, considering that in DMC4 it ends up in Nero's possession, which sets up DMC5. I wouldn't consider it standard arsenal for Dante, or Dark Slayer style for that matter. Overall, Dante wins more than not because of stronger feats and higher durability and regen. Nothing Bayo has can really bypass the latter, even if they can go blow for blow. Even her largest summons in Bayo 3 aren't anything Dante hasn't seen. And yes, Dante would look for the Left Eye to try keeping it safe
Im sorry but correct me if im wrong but wasn't another reason why people didn't like scout vs tracer was cause how tracers blink was not shown to cooldown like how it is within the game. Also, i think others have shown the in a consistent race the scout actually outpaces tracer even in a long run cause tracers base speed is slower then scouts base let alone top speed with bonk
K I’m not done with the video yet but like I did with the ragsol segment last time, I want to ramble a bit about a part in this I take issue with, and that’s your implied distain of the “edgy” criticism, again I don’t intend to change your mind, and I haven’t watched the video you made about it so maybe what I’m about to say is addressed there (still hesitant to watch it as I have a gut feeling I’d be unreasonably annoyed with it) but here goes While I agree that it gets thrown around too often and has kinda lost meaning, I take major issue with the idea that it “fails as a criticism” because I do believe there is a place for it One, as I said before everyone’s tastes are different and some people aren’t as patient as others Two, when people use it, I think they’re criticizing stuff like tonal issues or something taking itself too seriously and whether or not it comes off as genuine emotions (like Linkin Park) or as a desperate attempt at looking cool (like Shadow the Edgehog when written by a lazy writer) to add to my shadow example, I think what ticks people off about him in particular is that he’s in an otherwise colourful and fun series (yes I know sonic CAN be serious, but that’s not what anybody’s gonna think when you say sonic, and even then Shadow is a level above even serious sonic) and as dismissive as what I’m about to say is….. Shadow’s still a cartoon hedgehog, there’s only so seriously I can take that, my suspension of disbelief can’t work miracles three, to help paint a picture on why Jak 2’s edge is disliked by many (including myself), I’m going to ape and rephrase a point from ToddInTheShadows talking about falsetto, Edge only works when it’s done at least 90% correctly (Ragna the bloodedge or sol badguy for example, are 110%) all in, almost self aware of how ridiculous and over the top it is, and Jak 2 is a good…… idk….. 75%…. so yeah And fourth, as an autistic person, edge can be very overstimulating and overwhelming, it comes off as very hoakey and tryhard ish and it can take me out of a piece of media very easily especially if i can’t tell if it is self aware of it and with the exception of Blazblue Guilty Gear and maybe Jojo, I don’t think any of the the examples in the thumbnail are aware of it, and I think they’re genuinely trying to be cool, and that’s the problem, if you are actively trying to be cool, chances are that you’re very much not cool, sorry but that’s just how being cool works, that’s what separates a Stone Cold Steve Austin to most wrestlers trying to be him, they’re trying to be cool, and Austin… just is… it’s like it’s second nature, it’s effortless, he has a certain swagger about him that you just can’t teach, you either have it or you don’t, thems the brakes I don’t mean this as an insult, but going off the series and character you tend to show fondness for, and how you talk about them, it doesn’t surprise me at all why you dislike this criticism, like “of course a fan of this would be this combative of it” Maybe I’m just too jaded and dismissive of things, I have the mindset of “a lot of my favourite things are probably very lame and dumb and don’t hold up to scrutiny” I’m a wrestling fan for gods sake, you kinda have to be ready and willing to make fun of it to like it that much Idk I’ve always kinda hated phrases like “if you don’t like ____ or think ____ is cool, you have no taste” or any sort of combative quips like it, yeah I know they’re probably jokes but it always came off to me as condescending and lacking in empathy and self awareness (not saying you in particular are, I’m just saying how I generally feel) And maybe that has influenced how I look at and evaluate things, but I feel it’s also an important thing to acknowledge, I feel the best way to sell someone on something is to acknowledge both its strengths and weaknesses, probably even more so with its weaknesses, it’s honest, I think it speaks volumes when you ask “what doesn’t work about this?” Or “what about this would turn people off?” and then proceed to say you had a positive experience with it regardless of those things, as someone who had a very negative experience with Kingdom Hearts and with people trying to get me into it, I would’ve appreciated if instead of blindly praising it and saying it’s a work of art, instead saying “heads up, KH is dumb, very VERY dumb, but I think it’s worth it” Hope you understand whatever this word salad is and not take it too seriously, I’m basically nitpicking, Im enjoying what I’ve seen the video so far along with the previous three
Some clarification I think Sega are NOW aware of how dumb shadow is and have played into it as they should, he’s not a comic relief but its done a way where he doesn’t really feel out of place anymore, I was more referring to peak edgy shadow like in his game I know inadvertently comparing Linkin Park to the fictional edgy stuff isn’t really fair, but it was the best example I can think of that I do think is genuine, and one that too many are hard on Even if people did warn me about KH being dumb, I’d still dislike it… like a lot, maybe not quite as viscerally as I do now but I just genuinely think it’s corny and full of itself and it could do with some self awareness, also I think I dislike it from a conceptual level
This season was iiiiiiiiiiiiight, I guess. As usual, the highs are pretty high, but seeing as how I completely forgot about the actually bad episodes that this season contained, they REALLY are cringe-inducing to me nowadays, especially with a more critical lens to analyze these episodes. Weaker than Season 2 overall, but luckily the next season I remember fondly for being MUCH better and with cooler matchups they provide. Also, EXTRA BRAGGING RIGHTS!!! I found your channel through your Smash videos, especially since I was a Pit main at one point (once I improve as a player fundamentally I might switch back to him but he is still a cool winged boy), but I have seen some other stuff like the edgy characters video essay, as well as the "compelling Nintendo character personalities" one. You have a great channel, and I hope that others who come from your DB videos stick around to see your other videos, from then or the later "now".
@@JonathanFrostathan And I’ll continue being an OG before I stop becoming one and then remind everyone that I am one when I remember that I’m an OG. OG!!!
This season does have its good points for sure. Just unfortunately kind of messy in the long run. Side note, and more just sharing my own thoughts I suppose, but man, Cammy VS Sonya gives me strong feelings. Poor matchup, analyses, and animation quality aside, the content just isn't good to me either. Am I the only one who thinks the fight spends way too much time on the kill? It feels like shortly after Cammy gets, like, one instance of having the upper hand, the fight spends the rest of the time pretty much setting up her death, and then killing her in a drawn out way after the fact? I guess it technically makes for a good kill, though a bit unfitting for an SF character that isn't Akuma (which is still kind of debatable IMO). I guess that's hard to address when the tones of both franchises clash as much as they do. I guess the episode just feels like Cammy does way too little in the fight to justify spending as much time as it does killing her, if that makes sense. At least Ken VS Terry was a major improvement, and only two episodes later to boot.
That's actually a pretty interesting point on Cammy vs Sonya. Not one that I agree with, but I do see where you're coming from with it showing how hard the two series clash. I think that, on paper, Ryu vs Scorpion was a better way of including a fatality kill on a Street Fighter character since it had a more distinct tone that, in spite of how anticlimactic the kill ended up being, was a better way of going about it.
1:12:27 I agree since as someone who loves the hulk especially his model looks like play dough and the models of link vs cloud look better but move worse
I always loved Joker vs Sweetooth. I think there was a bit of controversy because Joker's win was based on something you can't really quantify, thus making the results more subjective, but truth is, Joker knows how to play someone like Sweet Tooth. Hell, he has had people like him in his gang at various points. He ultimately uses psychological trickery to "cheat" his way to victory, but that is completely accurate to the character. Batman regularly beats him because Batman is one of the few people he can't psychologically mess with through mere words. Joker knows what Sweet Tooth wants, and thus convinces him that his quick kill with the machete would not provide him with what he wants, this causes Sweet Tooth to get up close and personal so he can feel Joker's life leave his body, which lures him into Joker's trap.
I still think dante wins against bayonetta. DMC 5 gave him a massive boost, namely because with his sin devil trigger, dante could easily beat Urizen who could easily beat dante previously.
My review of Amy VS Ramona, because talking about this kinda broke me, and I'm the guy who gets brainrot at Blakasa If I can describe Amy VS Ramona, it would be that it's a music video using Touhou music, seriously, this is amazing to listen to. But this episode has the same problems I smite Beast VS Goliath (and Blake VS Mikasa to a degree) with, except maybe a little worse. Where are the voices? Where are those entertaining voice clips that make these battles fun to watch? It just makes the battle boring to watch, but how can that be? I've seen silent fights in the versus community here and there, and I didn't complain much. Well, I think it's all in the biggest problem with the animation. The pacing. This battle is PAINFUL to sit though. Every. Single. Thing. That happens here. Feels like it takes. An eternity. The fight is 3 minutes, and it feels like it's 6. I am convinced that if they didn't do these obnoxious pandering shots of characters being in shock or just dramatically moving, the fight would be cut in half. And it honestly kinda makes the fast and almost frantic music worse, because it does NOT fit with the pacing of the battle. You just gotta sit though things like Amy slooooowly spin dashing and bouncing off a wall, Amy slooooowly running to attack Ramona and get sucked in the bag, Amy slooooooowly seeing the Ramona clones, then sloooooowly breaking Ramona's hammer in one of the most confusing moments in the sprite battles, then sloooooowly destroys the bag, then slooooowly makes a tornado that sucks up the arcades at an equal speed, then slooooowly jump in the tornado to bounce off the arcades, to sloooowly knock Ramona out and slooooowly hit an arcade at Ramona's body. ARE WE SURE THIS IS A SONIC CHARACTER THAT CAN RUN OVER 765 MPH- You know, at least Beast VS Goliath was over with quickly. At least with Mewtwo VS Shadow there's some personality and humor in the fight, good or bad. At least with Blake VS Mikasa it was fast paced and not a bore to sit though. I have never felt, such pain watching a Death Battle, since when I first watched Deadpool VS Pinkie Pie and cringed at the not so good jokes. But, you know, I learned to warm up to that one. I know it's silly I'm this annoyed by the slow bits, but this sh*t piles up! Beast VS Goliath may be worse as a spit in the face to those who like or know the characters, but this one is a spit in the face to my patience! And on top of all that, there's nothing for me to make fun of like Mewtwo VS Shadow or Blake VS Mikasa! Hell, screw the general opinion, Mewtwo VS Shadow blows this one out of the water! At least I laughed at that one! This one? It's worthless, and to be honest, there can be days where I consider this the absolute worst Death Battle I've ever had the honor to sit though. But at least it had good music and, like Beast VS Goliath, had decent analysis! CONGLATURATION, AMY VS RAMONA!
Not sure where you got that idea, but I hope that money wasn't from your life savings because if you actually bet that amount of money, you'd be screwed, my guy.
@@JonathanFrostathanDespite the fact that you gave it a similar placement and score as a lot of other people would do, that was probably the most positive review this episode received on UA-cam.
I didn't hate tracer vs scout bec scout lose I hate it bec scout never goddam run jump and treated like a dumb ass when I play as scout in tf2 I never stop run that the whole point why I play as scout the disrespect is more than shadow vs mew two while they make tracer look like a smart strong main character how did it get 39/100 it should be 27 or more.

It’s a 50/50 on that canonicity from what I’ve seen
Really, the only parts of season 14 that feel 100% canon to me is the backstory for the blood gulch crew, like how they arrived before the show’s pilot.
Big DC and Danganronpa fan here
Junko could definitely work off Joker’s arsenal through the final punishment and that she can use Monokuma units as little minions for Joker to use his one-shot type weapons against
Also yes it’s a very good MU, personally my favorite ever.
Tho I would prefer the Destruction slowly builds up and not just thrown in the first and then *Beeg Explosion with even more meatier Punches.*
But Honestly, I honestly really like Hulk VS Doomsday.
Yeah that makes sense. A lot of good points here.
I'm honestly really enjoying your reviews of this show I enjoy so much!
Looking forward to your reviews for the remaining seasons in the coming months, especially the modern punching bag that is Season 7 and how you think of the highly-praised Seasons of 6, 8, and 9.
I still hate the Scout vs Tracer, because Scout has more feats in the canon comics and the game's miscellaneous items for Scout.
Yeah, the Scott Pilgrim game has no voice acting because its based on River City Ransom, an old NES game that you can play on NSO.
This is a great video! I do wanna say though that towards why Ramona was deemed the aggressor and why Sonic was there was because he's actually the reason why that Scott and Ramona get knocked off stage since he bursts through the room which leads Ramona to believe that Amy attacked her. I also disagree a little bit here and there on some episodes but i can always enjoy hearing other people's takes
Thank you for the reviews!
The "ultimate baby" joke in Hulk VS Doomsday is a reference to Max Landis' video on The Death of Superman.
34:13 Junko should be durable enough to survive the acid and buzzer but not the Joker venom. I believe that Junko vs Joker is a good matchup because its actually close and has decent connections.
As a outsider how is it close and what are the connections ?
Could Joker at least play off of her Monokumas at all?
There are particle weapons wich all the mercs can react to wich puts them at Relativistic speeds, Scout with bonk can dodge one point blank range wich is FTL+
Yeah tf2 scaling is way higher than even i thought.
Bragging Rights! I enjoy your ranking so far! Can't wait for the rest of the seasons.
Ah man, I’ve been looking forward to more uploads, so nice to have more to watch from one of my favorite channels
I'm not Jacksepticeye tho.
Honestly Junko might be able to survive Joker’s stuff. She’s survived punishments she used to execute others before so I wouldn’t completely discount it. Not saying she does definitely, just it could be worth looking into.
44/100!?! You're being way to generous. It's more of a -10/10.
(Me just joking)
Second of all, hoo boy is this episode special.
-Bowser vs Ganon
Yeahhh.
-Mewtwo Vs Shadow
Ugggggggggghhhhhhhh.
-Meta vs Carolina
This episode is so good.
-The Joker vs Sweet Tooth
I have big Nostalgia for this episode.
-Deadpool vs Pinkie Pie
I just feel bad for this one. Pleeeeease
And that’s all I have to say about this season.
1:00:07
No lie when I saw one of my most wanted (being Ken vs Terry)
I was so fricking happy with the episode and still are. Death battle has only done 2 (three at the moment with Chosen Undead vs LDB)
And seeing Ken vs Terry a fight with so much personality and charm to it now getting more love then when it came out made me so much more happy to be an original adore of it
This was a weird season in retrospect.
That’s why Junko vs funni Aborigine man is better
Really good video with takes I mostly agree with (minus the one I had an info dump on, but it’s basically a nonissue and I’m also rethinking a lot of what I said so shhhh)
Yeah Season 3 was… rough, and I really liked how the video had the overall theme of painting this as sort of a transitional season
Can’t wait for season 4!
29:35 His best matchup is Junko Enoshima fight me
Edit: oh ya actually brought it up lmao.
28:35 I mean yeah, if anyone says Omni Man vs Homelander is bad because its a stomp, they had to have not seen that because that is my favorite DB
The better call Saul theme at the end of the video is amazing
Bragging rights for the win, BABY
I heard Deadpool and just went "TYLER!" because I just know Tyler's voice.
Spongebob vs Aquaman was a joke episode where the stomp was intentional, but I digress.
Why did they have to rub in her death, it dragged on for too long and was painful to watch
Cammy vs Leona when?
Also, when’s the next TF2 episode?
Spy vs Agent 47 when?
I feel like Sarge VS Soldier is more likely to happen
Also one last comment. No. Junko cannot survive the Joker Venom. Still a funny and cool matchup tho
Caught up on your DB rankings today and i owe you a sub good sir 👍
Getting another TF2 episode would be nice

53:16 Now I have many more reasons to be your SIMP Jonathan
Oh yeah! Amazing ranking!
I’m holding on to these Bragging rights with my LIFE
As you should. Especially if you want more. ;)
K I’m not done with the video yet but like I did with the ragsol segment last time, I want to ramble a bit about a part in this I take issue with, and that’s your implied distain of the “edgy” criticism, again I don’t intend to change your mind, and I haven’t watched the video you made about it so maybe what I’m about to say is addressed there (still hesitant to watch it as I have a gut feeling I’d be unreasonably annoyed with it) but here goes
While I agree that it gets thrown around too often and has kinda lost meaning, I take major issue with the idea that it “fails as a criticism” because I do believe there is a place for it
One, as I said before everyone’s tastes are different and some people aren’t as patient as others
Two, when people use it, I think they’re criticizing stuff like tonal issues or something taking itself too seriously and whether or not it comes off as genuine emotions (like Linkin Park) or as a desperate attempt at looking cool (like Shadow the Edgehog when written by a lazy writer) to add to my shadow example, I think what ticks people off about him in particular is that he’s in an otherwise colourful and fun series (yes I know sonic CAN be serious, but that’s not what anybody’s gonna think when you say sonic, and even then Shadow is a level above even serious sonic) and as dismissive as what I’m about to say is….. Shadow’s still a cartoon hedgehog, there’s only so seriously I can take that, my suspension of disbelief can’t work miracles
three, to help paint a picture on why Jak 2’s edge is disliked by many (including myself), I’m going to ape and rephrase a point from ToddInTheShadows talking about falsetto, Edge only works when it’s done at least 90% correctly (Ragna the bloodedge or sol badguy for example, are 110%) all in, almost self aware of how ridiculous and over the top it is, and Jak 2 is a good…… idk….. 75%…. so yeah
And fourth, as an autistic person, edge can be very overstimulating and overwhelming, it comes off as very hoakey and tryhard ish and it can take me out of a piece of media very easily especially if i can’t tell if it is self aware of it and with the exception of Blazblue Guilty Gear and maybe Jojo, I don’t think any of the the examples in the thumbnail are aware of it, and I think they’re genuinely trying to be cool, and that’s the problem, if you are actively trying to be cool, chances are that you’re very much not cool, sorry but that’s just how being cool works, that’s what separates a Stone Cold Steve Austin to most wrestlers trying to be him, they’re trying to be cool, and Austin… just is… it’s like it’s second nature, it’s effortless, he has a certain swagger about him that you just can’t teach, you either have it or you don’t, thems the brakes
I don’t mean this as an insult, but going off the series and character you tend to show fondness for, and how you talk about them, it doesn’t surprise me at all why you dislike this criticism, like “of course a fan of this would be this combative of it”
Maybe I’m just too jaded and dismissive of things, I have the mindset of “a lot of my favourite things are probably very lame and dumb and don’t hold up to scrutiny” I’m a wrestling fan for gods sake, you kinda have to be ready and willing to make fun of it to like it that much
Idk I’ve always kinda hated phrases like “if you don’t like ____ or think ____ is cool, you have no taste” or any sort of combative quips like it, yeah I know they’re probably jokes but it always came off to me as condescending and lacking in empathy and self awareness (not saying you in particular are, I’m just saying how I generally feel)
And maybe that has influenced how I look at and evaluate things, but I feel it’s also an important thing to acknowledge, I feel the best way to sell someone on something is to acknowledge both its strengths and weaknesses, probably even more so with its weaknesses, it’s honest, I think it speaks volumes when you ask “what doesn’t work about this?” Or “what about this would turn people off?” and then proceed to say you had a positive experience with it regardless of those things, as someone who had a very negative experience with Kingdom Hearts and with people trying to get me into it, I would’ve appreciated if instead of blindly praising it and saying it’s a work of art, instead saying “heads up, KH is dumb, very VERY dumb, but I think it’s worth it”
Hope you understand whatever this word salad is and not take it too seriously, I’m basically nitpicking, Im enjoying what I’ve seen the video so far along with the previous three
Some clarification
I think Sega are NOW aware of how dumb shadow is and have played into it as they should, he’s not a comic relief but its done a way where he doesn’t really feel out of place anymore, I was more referring to peak edgy shadow like in his game
I know inadvertently comparing Linkin Park to the fictional edgy stuff isn’t really fair, but it was the best example I can think of that I do think is genuine, and one that too many are hard on
Even if people did warn me about KH being dumb, I’d still dislike it… like a lot, maybe not quite as viscerally as I do now but I just genuinely think it’s corny and full of itself and it could do with some self awareness, also I think I dislike it from a conceptual level

Thank you for finally validating me. I’ve always been so confused when people say Hulk Vs Doomsday looks amazing. It’s like… no…? I don’t get it.
1:12:27 I agree since as someone who loves the hulk especially his model looks like play dough and the models of link vs cloud look better but move worse
Bragging rights for me, baby! Yoohoo!
0:07 me binge watching these one after another 💃
I always loved Joker vs Sweetooth.

The answer to both is no.

My review of Amy VS Ramona, because talking about this kinda broke me, and I'm the guy who gets brainrot at Blakasa
If I can describe Amy VS Ramona, it would be that it's a music video using Touhou music, seriously, this is amazing to listen to.
ARE WE SURE THIS IS A SONIC CHARACTER THAT CAN RUN OVER 765 MPH-
You know, at least Beast VS Goliath was over with quickly.
