Still one of the greatest Sonics ever, in my book. The S3&K saga is the one I would replay the most, by far.

Also here's a tip from my childhood that I learned. If you get all the chaos emeralds before the end of act 2 of Hydrocity while turning SS on Eggman the stage end title card will flash Yellow with Sonic. Weird easter egg but maybe a reward for breaking the game only by stage 3.

A Sonic game this massive, it's recommended to fully experience both Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles game cartridges together.
As for the soundtrack, Balloon Park, Chrome Gadget, Desert Palace, and Endless Mine are very underrated.
Poor, neglected Azure Lake.

90s goodness, my bros would spend hours with sonic 3, I was the first beat all 4 classics and got super and hyper on sonic and knuckles, glorious memories and classic tunes 😁😁😁

The 1st game of the series I actually owned was Sonic & Knuckles, it came with the Mega Drive system like the previous Sonic games.
GREAT game. Best music on the genesis too. I like the beta music for this game a lot as well.
Nobody could figure out the barrel puzzle. Nobody.
Could it have killed them to at least put in 2 arrows in the back, 1 pointing up, other down, lighting up like a neon sign??
You could bypass it from another route I think.
All they had to do was use the up and down arrows on the keypad and it would move up and down faster and faster to allow you to move through the passage, my brother got stuck there as well 😂😂😂
So they glitched their way through. All Sonic games are broken, glitchy messes. Just use glitches and you'll beat the game in no time flat.

For Sonic 2 and 3 you still had to work your way to do glitches (most in Sonic 3 involved Hyper Sonic, Tails carrying you and rarely screen wrapping).
It was with some of the 3D games that they started to be broken but games like Generations or Mania weren't.

I wish you could get the option in later Sonic re-releases to have the MEGA jingle. I know SEGA makes more sense, but it is very nostalgic.

This was always my favorite Sonic game. In my opinion, it was the best Sonic game and had the best music.
Mind you, I haven't played a Sonic game after Mania.
Sonic 3 and Knuckles is technically my favorite, but I think they override the music in some areas.
I need the new remakes they changed the carnival, launch base and my favorite ice cap zone, those 3 are my favorite tracks, that new music doesn't hold a candle to the original tracks in the video here, happy I still have my gamecube and ds collection 🎉🎉🎉

I've got to point out a few factors about this game:
1. Last year was this game's 30TH anniversary & introduced KNUCKLES onto the scene.
2. Knuckles actually supposed to be a playable character in this but had to be left out due to time constraints at SEGA itself.
3. The music for CARNIVAL NIGHT, ICE CAP, & LAUNCH BASE were actually supposed to be composed by Michael Jackson but were changed before released.
4. The left out zones of AZURE LAKE, BALLON PARK, CHROME GADGET, DESERT PALACE, & ENDLESS MINE look like they were supposed to be NEW levels to be added in the main game itself but for some reason were not.
5. For the record, TAILS'S ability to FLY was SUPPOSED to be a playable featured in SONIC 2 but for some reason was held until this game. Although I do wish the game programmers at SEGA gave him the ability to utilize the power of the CHAOS EMERALDS as well so that fans could see what kind of abilities he'd have when combined with the SUPER EMERALDS later on.
6. Something, I've always been curious about, when playing as either SONIC or TAILS, how is it that KNUCKLES is able to be at one spot then suddenly at another that quickly? Could it be the power of the SUPER EMERALDS that allows him to go that fast or is their a few EXTRA shortcuts he uses that aren't featured in this or the complete game itself?
1) Shame that Shadow stole his spotlight.
2) It was because of the McDonald's toy campaign but this is just a theory.
3) Not Brad Buxer?
4) Maybe there were more than one lap layout but they couldn't fit more.
5) Sonic 2 was extremely rushed and I agree, Tails is pretty much useless in 2 because of his lack of Super Form and Flight.
6) Suspension of disbelief and cartoon logic.

3. Was those zones music suppose to be composed by him? I found out in a video that M.J. was supposed to help compose music for this game but due to issues he was having at the time someone else had to takeover instead.
4. Makes sense to me.
5. If only time constraints didn't get in the way then maybe TAILS could've been introduced better in his debut game.
