Honestly, the 540i is quite refined for a BMW. Obviously, the E-Class looks better interior wise, but you have to hand it over to BMW for their simple yet refined approach to its aesthetics. BMW exteriors don't change much over the recent gens, but they do get better and better. Interior too, it got better without doing a huge jump. Overall, I will probably opt for a 540i than an E-Class UNLESS it is an E43 AMG, but then I would go for the 550i.
Just got this beauty same color model but the mocha napa leather seats. I love love this car!!!!!!
How has it performed a year later?
@Pod :(
Pod lies
Im buying this CAR in 4 months cant wait🤭
Great review! very informative. You got me in the market for a BMW 5 series.
im sorry but there is a V8 model the m550i and even tho it has a M i its name it doesnt make it a full on M car. The 540i g30 replace the 535i nomenclature but the 550i remains and still the V8 option of the 5 series.
James Goussanou there will be an m5 soon
James Goussanou the last 540 which was an e39 was an v8
Yes bmw!!!!!!
Why doesn't the American model have the LCD display? This car can get to the $80K mark in a matter of minutes and the instrument cluster resembles that of a Honda. Other countries, including Canada, have a fully digital instrument cluster standard. That's very strange and no one seems bothered.
Malcolm G because everything’s better in terms of cars in Canada
That's a nice thorough review. The interior of this car looks like a nice place to be.
I heard you say it can do remote control parking. Can you do a follow up showing this please?
Also, it's a 540i, so can you bring it on the road and give it some hard right foot too?😀
BMW doesn't really do redesigns, its more refinements. Except for the chassis, updated tech, its almost the last gen 5 series.
theRealicon well except for when the 2004-2010 generation first came out that was a full redesign from the previous generation.
Camerons Car Reviews is it possible to change mph to kph on the digital cluster? thanks
Anton Evangelista Hi, it used to be possible in Europe because we have both systems over here. Is like to know the answer as well. I'm guessing it does both.
Nice car and review, but really BMW? Cloth inserts?
Look, this is a mid-sized luxury sedan. You can expect cloth headliners. Suede headliners belongs to more expensive luxury cars.
D.J. Wheaton well and for $71 k, IDGAF what they call it, it should have a suede headliner and a panoramic sunroof.
Gas Pedal Totally Agree!!!
the performance makes up for it
D.J. Wheaton There are no cloth inserts. That's all leather, quilted, ventilated dakota (real leather) and not mb tex (fake leather/vinyl.). It also has an alcantara healiner depending on the upholstery selected, otherwise it's the same material as all the other german cars, a close to polyester weave type hesdliner if it's not ordered with an alcantara headliner.
This car has no rear legroom at all....
Dedrick Love I'm well over 6'1 ans with the driver seat far back I have PLENTY of room. Theres another inch of legroom compared to last generation which was big enough then, and even bigger now.
JBags1230 I will go and see for myself . The Avalon has plenty of legroom .
The 540i actually replaces the 535i not the V8 550i option. Just as the 530i is replacing the 528i
Thanks for correcting me Lukas, sorry for the mistake.
BMW should make a V8 model of the 5 Series.
They do it's called M550i, available in EU currently, I think
The older 540i was a V8.
It seems like you didn't even drive it cause you're completely wrong about its power, ride and handling.
It's all about personal preference. I personally prefer previous E class interior, over new one. If you want car that still looks sporty with feeling for you as driver, then 5 series all the way. New E is more opulent, but almost like small Rolls in feel. You really don't feel like in sporty car. It's almost too much for certain drivers. Porsche and BMW does design oriented for luxury, but still more sportiness and classical looks.
Everyone is different, to me great example of sportiness in high class car is about 2012 A8.
I like nice hardware buttons in car, not this huge touch screen like new E, for everything.
Have this car and do not regret it! Same color dark interior tinted windows. So happy with it. This car has balls and goes up to 60 mph in 4 seconds. Read it, tested it. This car is fast and solid.
Can't believe they went with the nav stuck on dash design. Like in most cars it looks like a tacky aftermarket add on. I doubt they have a mute button this time around....hopefully a repeat song function. Also would be nice if it played blu rays instead of just dvds
But the built quality and the quality of materials used in this car is better than in the e class where in that car there is a cheap plastic surrounding the rear air vents
"Blind spot protection" is looking to your right or left like you've been doing. Love the car. Also, are you the salesperson talking about the damn E-class? Yikes.
this is not a replacement for the 8 cylinder 550 from the last generation. its the 535 replacement
I thought this is not a FULL M car. But really love it. Lexus IS the only one I think that needs to up their game. Benz upped their tech. Bmw upped luxury. And Audi upped drive and a bit of the tech. I always thought bmw was ahead of every brand in terms of tech. Obviously Benz and Audi has always been ahead of luxury but bmw finally made competition for that.
This is how good this car is- i chose this over the 7 series. The extra inch of room in the 7 is not worth it because imho the 5 does everything just a little bit better.
Thank you Cameron for this review!
Looks so beautiful😍
The map lights look like a Hyundai Sonata on steroids
You’re definitely not mistaking this for the out going model
Crazy how in the e39 series a 540 was the V8 model....how time changes
Do you know if that's the Gray Poplar Wood Trim in the one you tested? Looks very sharp
adaptive cruise control is not standard. you just have a normal cruise control which doesnt adapt to the car infront. it just keeps your speed you set. you must pay extra for the adaptive cruise control.
On the new 5 series, Dynamic Cruise Control is standard. It will adapt to the car in front of you from speeds ranging from 20mph-120mph. The optional feature is the ACC Stop & Go which is in the Driver Assistance Package II and will adapt all the way to a full stop and resume. The standard version turns off when the vehicle drops below 20mph.
Wrong. At least in the US.
Thank you very much for your sincere honesty when informing the buyer (me) that the g30 [BMW 540i] is not as agile and as nimble when comparing to older generation of BMW 5 series sedan.Personally, the BMW 530d (only rear drive), code name E60, is one of my favorite model with the option of luxurious front seats from the (at that time) 7 series sedan.
Yes, BMW does manufacture very good cars, but it really is not my cup of tea to have a small engine (like the 4 cylinder BMW 530i) or adding 4 turbos to the good 6 cylinder diesel [like the new upcoming 550d Xdrive] just to lower my emissions.I am a customer that has the means to own an expensive car and enjoy its muscular power. So there is no reason to buy a crappy plastic car - like Corvette - just to have low kerb weight and an augment in torque with the means of turbochargers, because the emissions is too high.
I do not wish to own a "one-off" car produced in smaller series similar to the excellent Bugatti.I find it overpriced.
However, new Porsche Panamera, delivers a true marvel of sportiness and torque from the V8 Diesel with optional rear stearing (to help taking tight bends), is the right choice to go. VW has done it again.
That's my opinion :-)
Sorry, you cannot comment on the handling etc without the adaptive suspension. Sports mode etc in ANY car the doesn’t involve changing the suspension is handicapped and cannot be honestly judged as to how a car handles when being pushed.
Getting this car in 2 days😻
Is that a stock exahust?
next car hands down
Where do you get the Music in from the beginning Because I like it a lot
Do you have any opinions about their Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound System?
Amazing sound system!!!!
Looks actually the same as the 7 series missed opportunity
What is the name of the body color ? Looks nice !
Nice review...that new chime sound to it...magnificent...
Only smoke out of one side of exhaust ?
I just purchased the mineral white with cognac one I am getting used to it.
Considering the same soon (first time BMW owner). What has your experience been like?
F10 looks way too aggressive
pl song name melody name 00min ----
@3:30 interior styling very revolutionary? .. i am not thinking that this is a honest channel... ffs interior is almost the same with the older generation
E A I clearly said "evoloutionary". If you didn't hear that, then that's what i meant.
Camerons Car Reviews I heard evolutionary.
That car is so quiet just ticking over. It's running the whole time but I cannot hear it.
Hi, great video
+Camerons Car Reviews I picked up my 740 before this refreshed model came out. This would've been tempting had it come out when I was looking around, especially the price difference!!
PLEAS DO M4 GTS CAMERON
4:11
🙏
what the point of the 7 series?. more space?
King Reef yep more space. A lot of bank though for that extra space IMO.
King Reef That and having a mobile office/movie theater/recliner/massage chairs, etc. It's for captains of industry
Where is the manual transmission? Come on!
Juggernaut383 In a luxurious sedan? Why?
SPORT sedan. Some people love shifting manually. Automatics tend to be pretty boring to drive and take away the fun.
Juggernaut383 too bad
MIKE YOU ALWAYS BEAT ME lol
Capricorn 03 HA
+Camerons car reviews, YOU REPLIED, i'm so satisfied with my life now lol :)
@ 3:12 the seat controls should be on the doors like the e class. If you are paying that much money for a car like the 5 series why are you reaching down where it is hard to see when adjusting your seat. I know im picky
Pat Johnson hahahah
This review just confirms what I've been seeing; the E-Class is at the top of its game, and the competition isn't. You can top out the base model of the E-Class and get as good a car or even a better car than just about any variant of the 5 series, the GS or the A6, for less money. There's a lot to like about this 540, but I don't see it measuring up to the Benz, and I haven't even seen the higher-end E-Class models. And isn't there a V8 option for the E-Class? I thought I heard there was, if so then that's yet another way it 1-ups the competition.
bdoleza My thoughts exactly!
bdoleza Unfortunately you're wrong. There is as of yet no v8 version of the e class , just a 6 and that would be the E 43 AMG, must like the 540iM sport. I find the fact that the amount of recalls on the current e class reprehensible for such an expensive car. It doesn't drive as luxuriously or sporty as the BMW does. It is underpowered compared to the BMW when you compared the 4 cylinder models of each. I find the interior of the E class nice, but very tack with too many flashy plastics that reflect the sun into your eyes. If you look at edmunds owner reviews, you'll see these sentiments echoed with many wanting to turn their cars back in with the fact many have owned their cars but have had them in for service for problems yet unknown by mercedes to fix. There are many things that don't or until recently didnt come standard on MB as they did on BMW. For instance, until the current generation e class, there were no standard xenon headlights. There is still no standard keyless ignition. The autonomous emergency braking is also not as good as the BMW, where the mercedes tends to reduce speed rather than stop the car. The packages on the BMW is much more comprehensive. Also, for the same amount of money for a fully loaded 5 series with a 6 cylinder, you still pay almost $5k more for a fully loaded MB e class, which is unrefined and underpowered when you read and hear real world owner reviews. The glossy black interior surfaces on the center console scratches easily and like I said reflects everything, including the black moulding at the bottom of the front windshield near the defroster vents. That car is nice, but I find it needing too much improvement in too many ways. You even have to oay for the factory maintenance for MB where BMW is covered for 4 years, 50k. You even have to pay for real leather on a 70k car and about 7 k for the premium 3 package. Mercedes makes a nice machine, even if it soends half its time in service upon ownership. I'm sorry I ever tried mercedes again. Now I know why they're funneling money hand over fist while BMW hasnt had a loss in almost 30 years.....
You just don't know how terrible the assembling quality of E class is. And they look way too ordinary.
M550I is the g30 V8 model pls look it up
if you want to drive a big e series around go ahead
