    Manuel Gardner Fernandez has been a serious force within the progressive instrumental guitar world but why is he so heavily compared to Tim Henson? Is he actually just an imitator of Tim and Polyphia's style or does he possess more individuality than what he's credited for?

    Manual, Ichaka, Marcin, Tim, Scotty and Charles are all THE new generation. They are all absolutely incredible guitarists. I know Marcin is predominantly acoustic and Charles is always using processing on his tracks they are every bit as talented as the rest so I include them in the new generation guitarist list. And all of the are definitely GOATED ❤

    So glad someone is speaking on Manuel Gardner, man deserves it! One of the things that I always see that disappoints me is the old heads always saying there's no feel or that it's fake. I don't understand why they hate it so much, when all they ever do is play classic rock songs and never really growing from there. I didn't really start getting into guitar until I saw Polyphia, Chon, Covet, and Unprocessed. Now it's all I listen to. They all have a unique sound while also pushing the bar on what you can play and make the guitar sound like. It's awesome and I'm glad to be part of this generation of progressive rock/guitar playing. Great vid btw!

    I would say Manuel is distinctly artistic with his style. It reflects in some of the music videos like with Deadrose and Snake, it feels very similar to what Yvette Young does with her music and videos. I think overall his sound has matured a lot as of recent with the most recent release of the album Gold and he implements a unique mix of some heavier sections like The Longing and The Game, some artistic songs like Rain and Dinner, and some flex/catchy songs like Portrait and Fabulist. Overall I would say his writing still needs some work, but technically he might be the strongest of the new age of electric guitarists.
    Also after seeing Unprocessed live opening for Polyphia recently I can say he has significantly improved live in both guitar and vocals. I honestly think Gold is almost their equivalent of The Most Hated where they have found a comfortable sound and I'm really looking forward to how they refine it with their next project.

    One of the best guitarist in the new generation of music and his technecs are so much fun to listen to, not to mention his voice really goes with the music they're putting out. Manuel Fernandez and Tim Henson are similar in ways but they both are on a completely different level and are extremely good at what they make. Yes Tim Henson has given Manuel a set up but Tim Henson didn't necessarily make him famous, his music did. W take on both guitarists.

    Yeah dude I fully agree with you here, I’ve honestly never understood anyone that says Manuel is just a wannabe Tim Henson. Like yeah sure some of the techniques they use may be similar but their songs sound sooooo much different, it just doesn’t make sense to me how people try to write him off as a Walmart Tim Henson. As a matter of fact, I’ve noticed that pretty much anyone that uses trap beats or those guitar techniques in their songs, regardless of what they actually sound like, automatically gets compared to polyphia. It really just doesn’t make sense to me why people are so quick to say “this sounds like polyphia” when there’s always very clear differences between what that person sounds like and what polyphia sounds like.

    When i watch Manu Gardner Fernandes pieces, they calming me. On other hand Unprocessed make me (with some exceptions) agitated in wrong way. Probably because i dont like (and dont understand) the hardest types of rock and metal music. Unprocessed is not Manu and three other guys. Lot of theirs songs was born with David John Levy as a main composer. BTW David is one of the greatest bassist of new generation musicians (look for Unprocessed clip taken for Ibanez headless guitars commercial - masterpiece).
    There is a lot highly skilled and talented musicians I love to hear daily. Ichika Nito, Seiji Igusa, ayumu, Charles Bertauld, Polyphia, Marcin, El Estepario Siberiano, Unprocessed and little less talented, but hardworking Mina or Sophie Burrell. And I think Manu Fernandes is one of best and most innovative and influential of them (even Tim Henson learn lot of guitar techniques from him). Personally for me, encouraging is they not fight each other. They rather helping centered bunch wide open to theirs fans. Yes, even Tim and Marcin are very kind and loving when they talking about everething but money and career.

  • @azerty1235931

    The point I'd love to hear more about is that the man just gained audience by being the best attention-whore and the biggest faking beetch out there (and making Jared Dines a total clown) : kinda manipulative but hey, as long as it works ! Even if he was a sh!tty guitarist, you just can't deny the master moves he did to make him and his band rise
    I don't think we can compare his riffs to Tim's because more than licks, I think Tim envisions licks like tools to get to a determined aesthetic, just classy and high-tailored ambiance (let's be honest, even his old solos/hooks on Renaissance, Muse, the guest on Liftoff... are not only great, but also fking stylish) and I think Manuel and so much more of the dozen of wannabes don't have that key factor, or at least waaaay below Tim's level.
    Really not dissing Manuel here, but Tim's note choice sounds more harmonious and more tailored to me (for a given context) than Manuel's, where to me it sounds a bit more like it is based on one of his chop that he just adds or substracts things (harmonics, strumming...), re-do the same thing but here we just sweep the inversed form for the transition, or maybe tap it, etc...
    But then again, I really liked your take on Manuel (and Ichika for the other one that gained fame at the same time) just developping his playstyle to make it original and more accessible over time : it works, it is distinctive, and it doesn't overlaps on Polyphia's territory like it is just the same thing but cheaper and wackier
    But yeah, really nice moves on the " guifakist " backlash he got on his debuts, man's gotta be a PR/HR if his guitar career gets to an end some day, because when I see the sponsors and the nice guitars he got from Ibanez since then, damn

    Honestly as someone who listens to both Tim and Manuel I 100% understand why people think their styles are very similar, but I also think they are very different; also with guitarists like Ichika who gets compared to Tim.
    If you're not a guitar player, yeah, the overly flashy, melodic, and technical playing that blend a variety of styles can all just sound similar. (imo what separates them is Tim plays more catchy and poppy hooks / Manuel is much more rhythmic and percussive / Ichika is more erratic than both of them.)
    Edit: Last point is it's like how people think all 80s shred guitarists sound the same. I can't blame them, you wouldn't get the nuances in styles if you're not an avid listener or guitar player.

I've been playing for a little longer than decade, but tbh it wasn't until maybe about 2 years ago or so when it finally clicked how entirely different all of them play. Prior to that if you blindfolded me I probably wouldn't have been able to guess who was who.
      And tbh even thought they have their own unique twists on how they play I still think they're very similar. Couldn't agree more! His playing makes you want to expand and try out new sounds. Based off of a lot of these comments it seems like Tim and Manuel inspire their audiences in different ways also. It's like people who listen to more Polyphia are the ones that play faster and are on the verge of over complicating their riffs while those who enjoy Unprocessed focus more on making stuff that just sounds good rhythmically
      Take that with a grain of salt as its just a surface level observation

      @wildpeasant4890 Рік тому

      @@monfloral yeah I agree when looking at it surface level, but I feel like a lot of more “niche” music uses rhythm almost as a key component of the melody, as it’s so ingrained into it, I feel like polyphia leans more into try to creating as full of a sound as possible on one guitar.

    Art is supposed to be challenging for the creator and the person experiencing it. Musically this has been a problem since like the 1600s, like damn Vivaldi that composition was absurd, intense, and gave me anxiety and a headache.

    • @monfloral
      @monfloral  Рік тому

      @Ron Hall You're speaking! I think there's a time and place for rhythmically challenging music but that "challenge" aspect shouldn't be taken literally. The issue comes into play when artists try to universally apply that concept to their work. Just because you can clash a bunch of sounds in 7/8 doesn't mean your music is "artistic"

There are channels with less than a thousand subscribers that io follow and love all their work just as much as when tim posts.
