This scene actually makes me tear up a bit, it's just such a beautiful piece of animation, and completely captures the imagination. It also establishes the majesty and affection of Marahute. The way she is constantly catching Cody, keeping an eye on him and playfully nudging him; even before you see the eggs you can tell that she is a mother.
Apollomasque this scene affects me the same. I’m 31 and I get all misty eyed when I see this beautiful chemistry and trust that’s established between this eagle and this boy. It’s just so touching. Once she realizes he’s saving her, she entrusts him with her most precious possession. Her young. Fills my heart with happiness
The sheer wonder in this scene is beautiful. Everything already mentioned is a part of why this scene is one of my favorite memories. The music, the events, the emotions, the wonder, this scene is beautiful, that is all I can say.
That is a great scene of a boy and a majestic mother eagle,Marahute, such a gorgeous friendship. It's fun her catching Cody, but the really fun part is when she makes her thrilling noise, the body makes his almost close to it,she tickles him with one of her talons,I like his laugh,Was it special effects because all the talons were to keep him from falling? The odd thing is I had no idea Cody was extremely 💙 ticklish.
pon33villin and I don't know why. I love this movie. After all those years, I still feel a lot emotion :) Old Disney still better than recents according to me
Apparently so. I also heard that McLeach (voiced by George C. Scott) silently influenced some villains in the later Disney movies, including Gaston in Beauty & the Beast and Clayton in Tarzan.
I remember holding my breath when she knocks him off accidently then saves him at last second from ground. Like scene where she catches him at end waterfall
They weren't nearly as big as Marahute, though. Marahute looks like she could pass for a teratorn (which was a different bird more closely related to vultures than eagles, though they didn't live in Australia).
I've heard people argue about which is a better movie, The Rescuers or The Rescuers Down Under. This scene illustrates why I think Down Under is so much better and more memorable. Besides beautiful music and animation that has aged better, plus a despicable and scary Disney villain as opposed to comic relief villains, Down Under has a far superior kid character. This scene before we even see the mice, establishes Cody as a proactive character with a mission, if not particularly bright. He actively fights and tries to escape the villain, versus just waiting for someone to come rescue him. The film also develops Bernard and Bianca better and puts them & their relationship in real peril.
I. Thorberg Even so, you know how naive kids are. They speak blatant truths and cover-ups us adults try to slip by them. Kids are notorious for pointing out stuff you don't want known. lol
i realize this is 2 yrs old but ; he was caught right away? he did try to get away and do something about it. and often kids aren't always the brightest despite their age. Is he really 12? he seems younger than that to me but maybe where i'm from people be on too many steroids cuz they all look and act more like teens at 12 here. I would have thought he was 10 yrs at most (max) and when he's freed he's worried about the eggs, one track mind. its not really being smart or not smart at that point, its what his "priorities" is. and thats the eggs. eggs can get cold and die quicker than one would think, not always, maybe rarely, but it -can- happen,s o u cant blame him there. plus in seconds something could come along and eat them like oh joanna xD ? i agree they could have made him lie though. instead of saying "its a secret" and all that. He could have said "My father gave it to me, ive always had it. " or "idk i found it laying in the woods what is it mister? :o" granted kids are blunt, and they needed plot they could have added it in to "brighten" his mindset , while the hunter could have still said, well, i don't believe you right joanna? >:D toss into the cage , or something like" im going back there then and your gonna help me. Thats what bugs me and had to tell someone who understands x'D
This movie is hands down better than the first. I actually saw this movie first and thought this was the first movie. When I saw The Rescuers, I thought it was crap compared to this.
I like to think Marahute can speak, she just chooses not to. I mean, all the other animals except Joanna seem to be able to (Joanna probably doesn't because McLeach beat all the desire to say anything out of her).
Being 32 now and still watching these, I just noticed that when Cody laughs, it sounds like Littlefoots laugh in the popping bubbles scene in the first Land Before Time. Googling now!
This movie, and specially the moment at 3:00, is one of the strongest memories I have from my childhood, such an magnificent and transcendent piece of animation. Everything is pitch perfect, including the amazing score.
A lot of people say this film's underrated, but they're wrong - It's gathered SUCH a following, and so many reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. It IS being spoken about and has been a long while now. It's right up with the other Disney renaissance films where it belongs.
I probably sound like a broken-record, but this is one of the most underrated Disney films ever made. It's interesting that it doesn't get that much recognition.
course, realistically to just "tickle" him, she'd've had to angle her talon so it's not digging into his ribs. gotta remember the claws on Birds of prey are specifially designed to be lethal weapons.
That bird is extraterrestrial… It comes from outer space… From some god-forsaken antimatter galaxy, millions and millions of lightyears from the earth!
I remember going to see this movie in the theater when I was just 8 years old. I wasn't expecting much and BAM this scene came on with the music and absolutely blew me away! The music in the scene with Cody in the nest just after this is extremely moving as well. I remember getting tears in my eyes as a kid.
I don't care what CGI animation they use, 28 years later this is still the most majestic scene of animation Disney has ever done. The color, the music and synchronization makes it all spectacular.
Cody: Penny, you don't want to go for a ride, do you? We can see all over Australia. Penny: Is Marahute safe to ride on? Cody: Sure. Do you trust me, mate? Penny: (confused) What? Cody: (holds his hand out to her) Do you trust me? Penny:(thinks about it for a second) Yes. (Takes Cody's hand and climbs on Marahute's back) Marahute: (Takes off and starts flying in the sky with the kids on her feathered back. Flew all over Australia.) Penny: (amazed) All right. This is pretty cool. That was great. She's amazing. (Strokes Marahute's neck)
I'm 30 and this scene still makes me cry. I'm a grown man but I grew up with all these old school Disney movies, so did my older sister. Simpler times. We used to have all these classics on vhs. They should do a live action remake of this, if they did it right and with respect to the original storyline and plot.
This is my favourite Disney Movie. 1. It was the first movie I watched at my grandmother's house as a young boy. 2. I love the storytelling of how even if you're a kid you can be determined to do anything a d be brave.
Actually, Marahute is said to be based on the recently extinct Haast's Eagle that is estimated to have had an eight to ten foot wingspan and weighing thirty pounds. That may not seem too big, but look up the size comparisons to a human. Yeah. That thing existed and it attacked and ate people.
I didn't watch this until about 2 or 3 years ago and I was impressed. What I like is that so little is said during this scene. It's all just watching this amazing spectacle play out. Like I wish Disney would remember that sometimes less is more when it comes to talking. You don't always need someone shouting about how "awesome" something is while it's happening. Anyway, I think in some way it harkened back to the original movie where they would play a song and show Bernard and Bianca traveling without any real words or sounds besides. They still do it sometimes but it never seems to hold up to moments like this one.
Colleen Marsh it’s just a powerful and emotionally moving scene. The fact it’s animated is a moot point. It’s what its depicting that tugs at the heart. The way this gorgeous eagle who initially is terrified of the boy realizes he’s saving her, she then develops a bond and comes to trust him enough she’s willing to show him her eggs. And how she puffs up when he comments on them being warm. Just. Beautiful.
Alllll the memories. A nostalgia punch in the chest! I LOVED this movie when I was four, five years old. I had the VHS and can't tell you how many times the thing was played. This is why I love UA-cam. :)
This movie came out in 1990. All right Disney, It's time to do another Rescuers, both were really good. Do a third one that is good and you'll have one of the best trilogy in animation !

the score is by Bruce Brighton if you think this scores good check out the scores he did for the opening it some up adventure perfectly , A very unrated and one of the more unknown film composers but by far a brilliant one on par with goldsmith or Williams
well said!!! i believe just like underrated composers of the past were only appreciated many years later, the same thing will happen to bruce and scores in general-as this whole genre is very underrated in our time....
I have forgotten how this Movie makes me feel. I hope one Day Disney will Remake this amazing Movie like thay are with the others, Thank You Walt Disney for what you have done to my heart by making this beautiful movie. I love it all
This kid's parents raised him right. Climbs a cliff to rescue a bird.
What a heart this kid's got.
yeah until he almost got a heart attack at 1:00
Bravery too
This kid looks cool in his shorts
One of the most under-rated Disney movies ever.
For real! I used to watch this every day but few have heard of it.
What if disney did a live action movie of this, I think it could never compare to the animated one
Agreed entirely.
why on earth is it underrated?
cody chill im not going to hurt you
This scene actually makes me tear up a bit, it's just such a beautiful piece of animation, and completely captures the imagination.

I just turned thirty tonight and I roaming UA-cam watching Disney videos ;)
BlinkinFirefly Our Generation, the Golden Years of Animation =')
Be-lated Happy Birthday =)
+Scott Cameron I am almost 35 and still like this movie.
+dvferyance The memories, the adventure, such a legendary classic & have been a part of my childhood
@Curtis Rupp I'm 30 to and my older sis and I grew up with these movies. Us 90s kids had it the best.
Such an underrated movie.

Absolutely
This is one of my favourites Disney Movies
Amen
+pon33villin Agreed. This film is criminally under appreciated
pon33villin and I don't know why. I love this movie. After all those years, I still feel a lot emotion :) Old Disney still better than recents according to me
pon33villin CAUS IT SUCKS ASS
Rescuers did this before How To Train Your Dragon
Chris Sanders, who co-directed HTTYD, was one of the lead animators on this.
Do I smell homage?
Apparently so. I also heard that McLeach (voiced by George C. Scott) silently influenced some villains in the later Disney movies, including Gaston in Beauty & the Beast and Clayton in Tarzan.
YES !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes this is the very first flying sequence in a 2-D animated film when how to train your dragon didn't exist yet but this one is lot better !
I didn't realize a teardrop was rolling down my cheek until I was done watching. Nostalgia is beautiful.
I remember being blown away by this scene as a kid
Same!
The devilstar13
:O?
I remember holding my breath when she knocks him off accidently then saves him at last second from ground.
Like scene where she catches him at end waterfall
devilstar13 g
FUN FACT: The animator on Marahute (Glen Keane) stated that the films of Hayao Miyazaki were a major influence on this scene.
I believe it.
This movie made me believe giant eagles were real.
These giant eagles really did exist. Marahute was inspired by an extinct species called golden eagle. :)
Yeah but not to that size lol but you're right she was inspired by them for sure :)
Maybe it was not all that size. But certainly they were huge. They were the largest species of eagle ever known.
likely. damn things hunted Moas.
They weren't nearly as big as Marahute, though. Marahute looks like she could pass for a teratorn (which was a different bird more closely related to vultures than eagles, though they didn't live in Australia).

Yeah, one made in 77 and the other in 90... If they had 2 or 3 years apart maybe but they're 13 years apart...
Not really fair to compare them...

Rather ”How could you say ”No” to flight like this?
are you a furry?
2:52-3:06 a tear came out my eye with that build-up and tremendous payoff with the waterfall and the kid's reaction is "Yeah, I'm jumping for it!"
Even after all these years, this scene _still_ gives me goosebumps!
Shame she can't speak, I'd imagine she'd have a angelic voice
Which angelic voice actress could have been on it back in the early 90s?
I really don't know... I wasn't as familiar with them all back then...
How about Jennifer Beals or Nicole Kidman?
I like to think Marahute can speak, she just chooses not to. I mean, all the other animals except Joanna seem to be able to (Joanna probably doesn't because McLeach beat all the desire to say anything out of her).
DakariKingMykan yeah
One of the best scenes in animation, and one of the greatest sequels ever made. Love this movie so much.

This movie was my childhood
Marahute is just so majestic
One of the few good Disney Sequels
agreed better than the original
This one went to movie theaters ;)
PyroGothNerd Agreed this one and the Lion King 2
Simply put, this is the single best piece of traditional animation ever produced.
WHEN SHE TICKLED HIM OMG ❤😭
one of the best disney movies ever in my mind
I'm with you there. Definitely the #1 most underrated Disney film.
yep i think 1 one overrated is Frozen
I Have yet to see Frozen. I heard it was really good though.
i am not going to see it i hate princess movies (except for Princess Bride)
Jeez. Lol. I like a few of them. Beauty and the Beast is absolutely fantastic.
A lot of people say this film's underrated, but they're wrong - It's gathered SUCH a following, and so many reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. It IS being spoken about and has been a long while now. It's right up with the other Disney renaissance films where it belongs.
I think what makes this scene so great is the music gets the heart pumping and the build up at 2:53 is incredible!
this is the best scene of the whole movie. just breath-taking =)
I probably sound like a broken-record, but this is one of the most underrated Disney films ever made. It's interesting that it doesn't get that much recognition.
I know right?! At 2:13 realistically Cody should have been impaled by Marahute's talon. Wow, he's tough!
So cute when Marahute tickles Cody.
yeah it is. :)
course, realistically to just "tickle" him, she'd've had to angle her talon so it's not digging into his ribs. gotta remember the claws on Birds of prey are specifially designed to be lethal weapons.
Still, I Love it when she tickles him since he's nice and helpless.
^^

I'M NOT CRYING YOU'RE CRYING.
3:03 I get chills each time. FLY!!!
It still gives me goosebumps
If only Disney could have lived to see this scene. "Dancing in the clouds" ❤
One of the best scenes in any animated film, ever. Hands down!
I loved this movie as a child!
This remains, 30+ years later, my all time favourite animated sequence in any English movie. You can tell they really loved the art. ❤
1:00 imagine watching this on a big IMAX 3D screen.
JTV YTP Now THAT would be epic!!!
There goes my stomach lol 😨
0:59 -- I tell you, one of the most intense moments in Disney history ever. They *almost* had a kid die on screen here.
*****
Aussie kids are ordinary kids too.
That bird is like a flying battleship!
That bird is extraterrestrial… It comes from outer space… From some god-forsaken antimatter galaxy, millions and millions of lightyears from the earth!
nice Giant Claw reference.

I love this movie
This scene is fantastic
I still get chills from this scene
To me, this is one of the very few exceptions where the second part of a movie series is better than the first one.
One of best suspense Disney scenes. Along with water fall clip too
Total nostalgia watching this.
3:02 ~ "....and after you synchronize. LEAP OF FAITH!!"
"Nod at the bird and PEOPLE DIE. Everywhere PEOPLE DIE."
I don't care what CGI animation they use, 28 years later this is still the most majestic scene of animation Disney has ever done. The color, the music and synchronization makes it all spectacular.
THE MOST UNDERRATED DISNEY MOVIE EVER!!!
(Takes Cody's hand and climbs on Marahute's back)
Marahute: (Takes off and starts flying in the sky with the kids on her feathered back. Flew all over Australia.)
Penny: (amazed) All right. This is pretty cool. That was great. She's amazing. (Strokes Marahute's neck)
I c what did you do here. ”Aladdin”, right?
Antti Nissinen 😉
And people actually hate this movie?!!!! Are you kidding me?!! This is beautiful!
Pure, lighthearted joy given life through incomparable animation and song; one of my favorite Disney sequences. 😃
this scene was heavily influenced by nausicaa of the valley of the wind !
That score is EPIC!
I'm 30 and this scene still makes me cry. I'm a grown man but I grew up with all these old school Disney movies, so did my older sister. Simpler times. We used to have all these classics on vhs. I can trace my love of pocket knives to this scene.
me too snd i trace my lust for skydiving to point break and power rangers the movie
Saw this in cinema when I was a little kid and still one of my favo disney scenes ever
This is my favourite Disney Movie.
1. It was the first movie I watched at my grandmother's house as a young boy.
2. I love the storytelling of how even if you're a kid you can be determined to do anything a d be brave.
Every time I see this scene it always makes me wish I could fly or even ride a giant eagle!!!!
Thank you so very much for downloading this scene! It's one of the best scenes and my favorite!:)
If y'all didn't know Marahute was inspired by Hiyao Miazaki. And it shows
What's even better, when this movie came out, this scene would have been technologically impossible to do in live action.
I haven't watched this since I was a kid, and now I'm crying.
Absolutely magical, I love this movie.
seeing this brought back a flood of memories from my childhood, I dreamed of flying with Marahute. And you did/will too I bet 😊
The first part reminds me of the scene with Toothless and hiccup from How to train you dragon ^^
correction: HTTYD copied their scene from this
i wouldnt say copied, more like they got inspiration from this.
the other way around
saquist you mean it as in "Hiccup and Toothless reminding you this scene" or "this scene being inspired by Hiccup and Toothless"?
This scene clearly was the inspiration of hiccup and Toothless. It was the first thing I thought about and I haven't seen Marahute in 5 years.
Wow!! Disney *actually* made a good sequel!
I get chills every time I watch this scene. Such a great movie!
my favorite movie as a kid! so many childhood memories, thanks for the upload!
Before there was Harry on Buckbeak..there was this.
Best scene of the movie by far.
Possibly the best scene of any Disney movie except maybe something from Fantasia.
Fantasia is my favorite Disney film ever, but if i have to choose one for its story and characters this is the one, so Rescuers down under would be #2
you sat up in bed cody minutes and yelled mom no no don't be afraid I won't hurt you do trust me mate you waht cody do trust me

Wow, this brought a tear to my eye. Epic memories.

They still do it sometimes but it never seems to hold up to moments like this one.
This scene makes me cry as an adult. I don't know why. Attachment? Nostalgia?
Colleen Marsh it’s just a powerful and emotionally moving scene. The fact it’s animated is a moot point. It’s what its depicting that tugs at the heart. Such a underrated Disney film

Also, Eva Gabor (Bianca) and John Candy (Wilbur) had both passed away. Disney felt it wouldn't be the same without them.
Good lord, that is awesome! This film needs more recognition.
In 1990 I was 5 years old when I saw this movie this is fav. Now I'm 30 stills I'm favorite. those were the good days.
My favorite song in any soundtrack of anything ever.....I honestly get chills EVERY SINGLE TIME I hear this!

beautiful use of classical instruments and very masterful the way it was composed around the aboriginal type music at it's base.
