For the stream advice, do note that 1) you are Code Monkey with an existing audience, which can be responsible for the UA-cam numbers and 2) Steam numbers are very likely inflated by the fact that when visiting certain pages, the stream is autoplaying on top of the page.
When Code Monkey said that with the tutorial, the median time of his game increased from 9 to 13 minutes, the first thing I thought was that users were reading the tutorial for 4 minutes :)
I've watched/subbed for years. I think this is one of your best videos. It has direct and actionable information, based upon real-world data. Good stuff!
Invaluable! Thanks so much! I see you have a video about how to implement analytics which is something I've never done before so I'll definitely check it out.
Hey, I was browsing through your upcoming games on steam and I noticed that you don't have a developer page linked to those games (Not either Endless Loop nor Code Monkey), I would recommend to link them ASAP
Hmm that's very strange, I do have a page set up but apparently the link it not working on Dinky Guardians, I'll look into it thanks! store.steampowered.com/developer/EndlessLoopStudios
Thank you for a great overview of the issues. Good actionable advice here. Though at every point in your presentation i can't help thinking "yes, that is the way if you already have 478K subscribers on UA-cam." Obviously you have worked hard on this and deserve it, but given your issues with DG I can't help thinking that it takes a miracle for those of us with 0 reach on social media to get any attention on Steam or Itch.
Obviously having a large social media following helps although in my case the audience for this channel is more game developers rather than game players so it doesn't matter as much as you think. My advice is try to build a following, marketing is the most important thing nowadays if you want to find success so regardless if you're starting from 0 or not I encourage you to try that. At one point this channel did have 0 subs, and I also made games for 8 years before this channel existed, it all depends on how many sales you need to make a living.
I’ve followed most of the advice I could find online as well as paying for Facebook, insta and google ads, and still only have 47 wishlists after two weeks :/
If no matter what you do you can't seem to get wishlists that might be an indicator that either the games presentation (Steam capsule, name) isn't captivating people or maybe it's the game concept itself Sometimes no matter what you do some game ideas+execution just don't end up appealing to people, if that's the case it might be wise to complete the project and take what you learned to make the next one even better
@@CodeMonkeyUnity That makes sense. It is definitely unfortunate given the amount of time and effort that went into making this one. I even went as far as to get blessing from the creator of the original DOS game mine was inspired by, which I don't think I'll be able to pull off again for my next release. I'll try to get involved in the Next Fests next time, I think that would have been helpful. The cutoff is already past for the February 2024 one.
I'm considering being part of a steam festival with my minimalistic medieval city builder. Just gotta figure out what the best approach would be for a demo. Also, what is that game that kinda looks like Don't Starve? Thanks!
Demo design is definitely tricky, I don't remember if Townscaper had a demo but it could be wise to look into those chill city builders and see how they did it That's Wizard with a Gun, one of the most successful demos of the festival, looks really interesting!
I did cover analytics but I think the tool has changed quite a bit since then so that video might be outdated. Cloud Diagnostic doesn't really need anything, you just enable it and that's it
I definitely would like to do some game analysis videos, I used to do some reacting to a trailer but those videos didn't do very well, maybe I can try that format again

Code Monkey do you work out? Those arms are looking good
Hehe yup! Going to the gym every day is what gives me the energy to put out so much content without burning out!
nice stuff as usual.
Do you have any tutorials about analytics/ cloud diagnostic?
my bad, didnt do a research on your channel:
analytics: ua-cam.com/video/3jDD-E1OUkc/v-deo.html
I did cover analytics but I think the tool has changed quite a bit since then so that video might be outdated.
Cloud Diagnostic doesn't really need anything, you just enable it and that's it
My dad and I made a horror game called Outlive

What is the games playing in the background names?
Most of it is my own game Dinky Guardians
