There would be a lot more variables, like obstacles and texture of the bouncing surface, but if you do it multiple times and average it out, I bet it’d be more accurate. There’s a lot more to bounciness level and quality than only the first bounce.

Air resistance is a big factor, so I feel this bounciness test isn’t very accurate because golf balls are made with aerodynamics in mind. You should do another test but use a photo gate or velocity measuring device.
It could also be affected by the amount of force that is put into it in order for it to go up high. For example, someone with bigger arms could slam it harder on the floor than say someone who is skinny and slender. So there are many factors but it depends.
You need a fixed constant to measure the variables. Doing a free drop of the balls from the same height and then measuring the maximum height when it bounces up or time taken between two touches will be more accurate. You need to also consider whether the size or circumference of the ball would also play a part in its bounciness./ elasticity. Edit: I'm just trying to guide the boy in easy simple to understand steps.
