  • If like me you're bored of waiting for OTG USB storage to come to the Oculus Go. Using a wireless hotspot device you can create a personal 5Ghz private network and connect your USB storage.
    You can share the network with multiple Go's or other devices like tablets, PC's and smart TV's. Improve your Virtual Desktop connection if you only have a 2.4Ghz connection. Free up your USB port for charging so you can stay in VR for longer and still watch your movies on the "go". Never stop!
    SET THE SWITCH ON THE SIDE OF THE TPLINK TO THE MIDDLE OPTION. SHARE HOTSPOT.

    I’ve been using my home network (VRPC) and have a share folder on there together with another one for my 3D movies and all that good stuff.
    But this could be handy for travel use.
    You could also use an external drive that has a built in WiFi, I have one for my media server which is funky and about 2TB with a card slot also.
    Good video btw! You should be able to use that to copy the films or pics to the Go quickly also to stop loading times and lag

      True, I have a drive just plugged into my router but I hardly add anything to it. This is going to be useful on car journeys with the kids and avoiding the silly high hotel WiFi costs if i share my 4G or even the single connection! 👍

    Good call on the TPlink. Handy for pretty much any device that you can't connect storage to via USB. I've just grabbed one as it'll be perfect for letting the wife watch stuff on her iPad when we're away from home.

      The wife has one with 128gb but it's a pain in the butt having to connect it up to the PC and then load iTunes to put content on it. Much easier if I can just copy all the content to a USB hard disk and then share it between her iPad and all the other mobile devices we have. Good call!!

    Don't ignore the warning at 9:00 regarding ensuring that your USB stick is formatted with FAT32 or NTFS. A lot of USB sticks come with ExFAT on them. I just glossed over that warning in the TP-Link manual and it cost me by way of unnecessary frustration. As soon as I realized what I had done, I formatted the USB stick with NTFS and all of the USB issues went away.

    TP-Links are genius stuff and really provide great solutions for many reasons. Better performance than Linksys. Love it... I will however add clarification for the 2.4 up conversion. You can connect to the different 5.0 network, but only for intranet and not internet. Internet is still being pipped out from your ISP’s modem/router at the same speeds it is limited to for anything connected to it despite what the end device is capable of receiving.

    • @RaMarcus
      @RaMarcus  5 років тому +2

      True, if you don't already have 5ghz this will only give you that speed between devices on the same network not with the Internet. But it's ideal for Virtual Desktop or ALVR to improve quality if you only have 2.4ghz.👌

    Works great - thank you much for the video! I have three HDD's and add/delete content on a regular basis. SkyBox often lists wrong video names and thumbs (usually of previously deleted files). Using Skybox's refresh and resort options do not help. There is no option to clear SKybox data history/cache I can find. I do a windows error check on the HDD's and no errors found. Any ideas?
    PS: Any remaining faith OGO will ever support USB file access? It's been sooo long.

    Hi Marcus, great video as usual. I have a different set up that also works. I use a Seagate Wireless 500GB Drive, Model 1AYBA5 currently £60 on Amazon. This drive is completely portable and creates its own Seagate Wireless Network. Which allows wi-fi streaming to 3 users at a range of 45 mtrs. Allowing you to connect anywhere around the home or outside in the garden when weather permits. Format is NTFS it is Windows or Mac compatible ( i'm a Mac OS User ) which can give you problems trying to find a streaming solution to my Oculus Go. The MAC OS drivers are pre installed so it works out of the Box although its only partly charged you need to fully charge the drive.
    You can then either connect it via the included micro usb cable to your desktop or turn on its Seagate Wireless Network and connect it via wireless. The drive is compatible with all popular formats. You can create folders directly on the drive and add content or you can Drag and Drop its up to you. I have folders for MP4 Movies, SBS-3D, Samsung 360 Videos, Photo's and My Parrot BeBop Drone Clips Etc Etc. I had tried most Apps available that you had suggested to view this varied content. Some played some but not all. Thats until you shared your Pigasus Review, I purchased this and ever since WALLAH it all works brilliantly.
    You just connect Your Oculus GO to the Seagate Wireless Network open PIGASUS the drive appears on the Pigasus Screen, open it and theirs all your Folders. Select and play.
    So for £60 you have the portability as it has its own internal battery giving 8hrs of streaming or 20hrs Standby, up to3 users at any one time and 500GB to play with. They are relatively cheap now as they have been around about 5 Years I Paid £100 at the time. they are USB2 for connection purposes when using a wired connection to your Desktop. However Seagate are still selling these and the firmware is updated as and when required. Apologies for the long description but you did ask. Kind Regards NigelG

I think I'll grab one of those as I watch many 3D movies via SkyBox on my Go and it would be handy to have this as a tiny media server with an SSD plugged in hiding away in the corner of a room. There maybe external issues affecting the speed as well, other WiFi networks can degrade performance. I would say 5.7k footage is pushing it but it will depend on the bitrate as it streams, can you recode at a lower rate as that may help.

    Im planning to do something like this,but i need this tplink right? So my question is: If i connect on this tplink to PC on same wi-fi , Will It stream much from my internet? Because using remote link via PC to smartphone many times heavy much and lag much my internet.
    Also can i connect my PC via cable to this tplink device?
    Its awersome because It has an "private" lan network so i can connect onto my PC and stream vídeos without worry about other people making some trouble...but again thats my 1st question issue, if i have this and example my brother going to watch something on router or download, Will It heavy my conection? I want something like an AD HOC to oculus Go...It could be more safe,right? Imagine when my internet Go down...i cannot play on my VR linked to PC?
    Do you know If today (2020) oculus Go support play vídeo directly from USB?

I submitted an idea to Seagate to look at integrating their Bluetooth external hard drive into the oculus go platform. this, in my opinion, would solve a lot of the media access problems associated with storage limitations. This could be a brilliant solution for me. My current setup is a combination wired/wifi network in the house with 5Ghz wifi. I store media on a fast media optimised Synology NAS which goes through a heavily used Gigabit 1000 network switch which connects to the 5G wifi. VR media still stutters when streamed to the Oculus Go from the NAS. The only solution so far has been to download from the NAS to a Macbook and then side load onto the Go. I am hoping the TP Link will give a wired network connection direct into the second ethernet port on the NAS and wifi connect 5G into the Go bypassing the existing burdened network. Thats if the 5G networks are happy to coexist and not interfere with each other.
    Even if that doesn't work, I can revert to plan B using it exactly as described in the video transferring to a memory stick etc. I'll find out when it arrives tomorrow.

      @@RaMarcus I managed to get hold of a AC750 this afternoon at a local Curry's. I had ordered one from Amazon at the same price and was in time to cancel. It's not cured the stuttering I was getting streaming video to the Go. These are VR180 videos from the Vuze XR. I have taken them at the highest resolution of course but anything streamed from external to the Go stutters using Skybox and even worse with Pigasaurus.
      If I sideload the files to the Go they play perfect . I have tried a Sandisk USB 3 pendrive which should be fast enough. Other than digging out an alternative to the Sandisk not sure what to try next. Have you tried this method with any 180 Vuze XR files yet?

    • @RaMarcus
      @RaMarcus  5 років тому

      Vuze files will be almost 6k so that's going to be a challenge for most wifi steaming solutions. I tried some 4k videos earlier and they played fine for the most part, seemed to pause for the first minute a bit but I guess it buffered and I was fine. But I guess on the Go you only really need 1080p footage, what res were you streaming? Could maybe be interference maybe? 🤔

    • @wrongway2001
      @wrongway2001 5 років тому +1

      @@RaMarcus I was streaming the 180 stuff from the Vuze in default res which I believe is 5.7k resolution. The Go seems to handle it sideloaded so it looks like the interface cant cope. I wonder if this is why they haven't enabled the USB port for OTG streaming.

    How do I make this connect to my Xbox one

    • @RaMarcus
      @RaMarcus  5 років тому

      You should be able to connect it to the WiFi just like you normally with an Xbox.

    The same usb stick that I'm using on my Go..

      It's a great little stick, I have a few and find them useful for connecting and transfering files all over the place. 👍

      How do you use the usb stick with your Go. I thought we were still waiting for Oculus to enable that function on the Go. I have to sideload using a PC.

    • @RaMarcus
      @RaMarcus  5 років тому +3

      You can sideload Kodi (or a few other media) to access files on USB sticks. Not everyone is comfortable with sideloading.

    Fuck the sticks off mate with the router you can get one of those 2 TB portable SSD's so the router is the superior option, also you're gonna want to reformat it to NTFS as FAT32 has a max file size of 4 GB

    The Oculus Quest couldn’t get here fast enough.

      @RaMarcus  5 років тому

      It's still a few months off, at least, should be a great device. I imagine it'll be able to access files from this as well. 👍

      Agreed. For those who haven't got a GO, it might be wise to wait a bit for the Quest.
      I like my GO though. It's been a ton of fun so far.
