- Hindu refugees from Myanmar living in a camp in Bangladesh celebrate festival of Durga Puja for the first time since fleeing violence in northern Rakhine state last year.

I'm an agnostic from bangladesh. I was born in 1998.
Althogh I was born in hindu family, I'm not religious.Last time i went to a temple was back in 2013.
I live in a town which is probably only town in bangladesh with 30% hindu population.And this district where this town is, its around 15% hindu. It used to be all hindu before 1971's hindu exodus from bangladesh. My family(from both mother and fathers side) went to india in 1970 during war but they came back in 1972. We were a family of Zamindars. When they came back from to BD after war, 90% of their land was grabbed by local muslims, but still btoh side of my family stayed here
Here's my experience about being born and living here.
Nevertheless, I had very few problems from muslim people here. I used to get called derogetary names like "malaun" when i used to live in village by some muslim kids in village when i was a kid. After i moved to a slightly urban area, i really didnt had any problem with muslim people at all, apart from getting harassed and being called malaun and kafir by some mulim goons in college. But 99% people are good.I never really felt like i live in a muslim dominated area. Most muslim womens dont wear burkha or hijab here, they wear traditional bengali dress same goes for mens. I can even go to mosques, hangout with my muslim friends in mosques etc and they wont do anything even if i enter into praying room. Every school and college here celebrates Saraswati Puja, Eid.In this town of approx 200k people we have like over 100 places where durga puja happens. And also during Jagannath yatra procession trafic here stops during daytime for 4-5 hours. This district is mostly uneffected from all hindu persecution that goes thought most of bangladesh. Here in this town I'd say muslims are better than even india and farr better than pakistan and other extemist countries.Muslims here don't pray in road or in open space, they only pray inside house or mosques, they dont harass people for eating in public during ramzan, dont impose burkha, hijab on womens. I've never ever experienced or heard of any incident where muslims atacked hindus, grabbed land, destroyed temples, force convert people. There's only one problem, and that is people can't stand atheism/agnosticism at all. They are very strickly against disbelievers. Hindus and muslims alike, all hate atheists here, any religion is fine for them but not atheism. Oh and another thing theres no inter-religious marraige, here everything inter-religious happens except marraige.
When i went to dhaka, sylhet(cities) i felt like im in a whole different country, because i hardly ever saw any girl in traditional bengali saree and muslim mens with punjabi and long beards were everywhere.
