This happened to ME not because of a bad manicure but growing up i would rip the cuticle area, much more than cuticle and nail fold until it would bleed. I didn't know that was what was causing the damage but it was really bad. I stopped doing that years ago, my thumbnails are better now but they are still extremely sensitive there. I only gently push the cuticles back, not even all the way because i dont need that type of trouble anymore. I'm glad this video shows this! I searched for years to find an answer for the cause but was left without any hope.

These are called Beau lines. I was able to find this. Any type of crushing injury such as hitting it with a blunt instrument, like a hammer or dropping a book on your nails, might produce horizontal ridges. Chemical substances, such as nail polish or a particularly harsh nail polish remover, when used regularly over long periods might be a cause. Sometimes, repeated exposure to trauma, such as a bad running shoe creating friction in the same spot, might be the culprit. Arsenic and silver are two poisons that, when ingested, might lead to horizontal ridges forming on your nails. Bacterial infections, such as yeast or other fungal infections, have also been known to create horizontal ridges on nails but we cannot ever completely discount a serious illness as an underlying condition. If you are not sure and suspect that the cause to horizontal ridges might be serious, the best course to follow is to talk to your doctor.
These aren't Beau's lines, I have the same issue and couldn't figure it out for years. Look up habit tic, I was a classic picker of my cuticles and had no idea it was causing the same damage.. Cuticle cleaning can do this too. Once that area is healed, the nail heals. I had doctor's tell me they were so many things. Low iron.. Thyroid.. Psoriasis.. Turns out is was just me doing it to me by picking at my cuticle.
I've heard and watched so many horror stories that I ended up buying my own polygel and learning how to do my own nails :'( This transformation has restored some of my faith in humanity
All of my nails did that about 3 months ago, And my nails are still healing without product on them. The damage that caused my nails to do that was from lupus. My fingers were so damaged that my finger tips were inflamed and bleeding daily. Now my nails are a lot better but I still have a few more months before I can apply any kind of product. And I can't wait to have pretty nails again.

I made a mistake like what was made with her nails but on my own the solution you used is the same I used on my own nails and it worked really well, I am much much more careful with a nail drill btw I am not a nail tech or anything I just love to do my own nails and these type of videos are the way I learned how to do it thanks for making these I learn a lot this way

Thats what my thumbnails look like. After severe damage to my thumbnails years ago from getting acrylics, they just continue to grow in all lumpy now. IDK if its repairable. But pressure on my right thumb nail can be painful near my cuticle. Now im just scared to get my nails done anywhere. :( I regret getting my nails done.
There's two reasons for this: you have permanent damage to the nail bed, in which case, the bumps are permanent or they're infected. Permanent nail damage would show by your nails being thicker as well as being lumpy, but no pain at the cuticle. If you have pain, puffiness and redness at the cuticle, I'd hedge on a long-term infection and see a doctor. You may have to get the thumbnails ripped off and start fresh, but it's literally better than infected ones. (Been there, it sucks.)

Just curious, for the nails to get into that condition, does that mean that she would have peeled her nail/ cuticle from the nail bed down to the tip of the finger? I picked at my nails for over a decade but they never changed the way this person's did.

Very common for the thumbs to look like that. it's when you're picking on or touching your cuticles, pushing them away from the nail. That's all it takes. Hope this explains it, otherwise there's plenty online if you search for habit tick nail deformity :)
The initial damage I received was from a past nail tech that never got better because I started to do exactly that! My nails have been like this for years
I have this exact damage on all but 4 of my nails. It started with an allergic reaction to gel nail products. It cause my nails to detach from the base and when the nail broke off and the bed looks like this. I have no idea what to do about it or if it requires medical attention.
Im a 70 yr. old guy , I have construction worker hands , but I've had that same damage to my thumbnails and I finaly figured out it was because I was always picking at the cuticles ,,instead of chewing at my nails , Im glad I saw this , it confirms what I was guessing , Im glad to see that the nails will fix if I leave them alone !
When you have a hangnail or loose skin around your hands, you'll want to pick at them even more. If you notice that, you could clip it or file it, so that you notice it less and when you need to pick at your nails, you can chew gum or play with fidget toy :) i hope this cap help at least a little bit.. it did help me ♥️

I'm sorry this is bad but the health of the nails relies on the client as it hers own nails. The one nail looks like it was lost and is regrouping that's why it looks like that. When your nails regrow from completely falling off you must let it happen and apply nothing on it. Unless it's a fungus that was not treated and progressed like this. But to my knowledge you cannot create this type of damage in one nail appointment with a nail file it doesn't look over filed. I would not give this type of client services because the health of the nails are more important than enhancment
My nail grew out like that on my big toe after I lost it when I wore too small shoes for 12h one time... and the nail fell off!!! 😵but then it looked normal again after a few months when all the damaged parts grew out
This actually can happen as it's happened to me. I had a pony bite my nail plate off, and it regrew looking exactly like that. You can't tell today aside from the faint indent in my nail as my nail bed is permanently damaged on my right thumb. I'm lucky it's not worse, but it does go to show that trauma does freaky things to nails. I have the same issue on my left thumb from when a nail technician drilled to the nail bed and permanently damaged my thumb nail bed. It was excruciating.

Nail and skin biting *can* also cause this… but considering the rest of her nails, I doubt she does this 🤔🤓 Nail and cuticle biters do have a “preferred nail(s)” to bite, but when that gets sore, they nibble the others 😂🤦🏼♀️ It’s very rare for nail biters to have 8 perfect nails and only two nibbled thumbs. Because her other fingers are perfect, it suggests to me that the nail tech was too hard on the cuticles at the first appointment and she pushed them too far back (which opens the “seal”). Our body protects itself by closing it with thicker skin. At her next appointment, the nail tech would think that thickened cuticle was dead, and nipped it away again and AGAIN pushed too hard. After a few appointments, the nail would be growing out and showing the damage from each appointment. At that point, the client would notice the damage (and would go elsewhere!) 🤓 I must admit, I’ve never seen a case THIS bad… but that’s what happens when you consistently make the same mistake

Wow. That was some bad looking nail. I hope we can see some more follow up videos of this client. I work at a training academy that teachs nail techs, beauty techs and hair dressers. The teachers make sure to highlight the potential injuries that could be done. Some people think its an easy industry but there are some dangerous chemicals and tools involved.

I betcha her nails are feeling sooo relieved to be finally getting worked on by somebody who actually not only knows what she is doing, but actually cares about how nails should be treated as well as the most important part is the health of her clients nails. I find the transformation work done by Tatyana to be just so awe-inspiring. A true knowledgeable, caring and gifted talent she has, which is often rare to come by as most nail technicians these days seem to be more into the designing aspect then taking the wholistic approach when it comes to doing a client’s nails. I mean it is even rare to have a nail technician actually do a follow up call just to see how a client’s nails are going, after having to work their magic on them just to rectify another’s mistakes. Most would leave it up to the client to contact them if any further issues should develop. All I can say is that Tatyana’s work is beyond amazing 🤩👏👏👏👏💕💕💕
My husbands thumb nail looks like this too. He smashed his finger in a door I think or something at work. But his whole nail was gone at the time and he continued working like that for years. I honestly don't know how to fix it or help it to make it look better 🤷🏾♀️🤷🏾♀️ until now lol but this helps. Edit: it's not necessarily different colors,just feels and looks so rough and bumpy.
Can the deformed nail be fixed by filing the lump on it ? Mine grew back after I smashed it with my car door but it’s a bit deformed with the same lump this video has.
I have hypothyroidism/Hashimotos And my nails deteriorate and look very similar to hers. Except my nail beds get very receded and the crumbling nails catch on everything.

Did the other nail tech gave her all that injury to her nails? Or she had an injury and the nail tech made it worse?
She said that a nail tech did that to the client. So no it wasn't injured before the other nail tech did her nails.

I'm appalled that someone who calls himself or herself a nail technician is responsible for cracking a client's nail due to negligence. Wtf, who gave them their licence?
I’m guessing they didn’t have a license , it’s common around where I live

Wow. That was some bad looking nail. I hope we can see some more follow up videos of this client. I work at a training academy that teachs nail techs, beauty techs and hair dressers. The teachers make sure to highlight the potential injuries that could be done. Some people think its an easy industry but there are some dangerous chemicals and tools involved.

I do my own nails and even when I have started I have never caused my nails so much damage! How can a nail tech does that! She must have felt so much pain and discomfort, poor thing!!
I betcha her nails are feeling sooo relieved to be finally getting worked on by somebody who actually not only knows what she is doing, but actually cares about how nails should be treated as well as the most important part is the health of her clients nails. I find the transformation work done by Tatyana to be just so awe-inspiring. A true knowledgeable, caring and gifted talent she has, which is often rare to come by as most nail technicians these days seem to be more into the designing aspect then taking the wholistic approach when it comes to doing a client’s nails. I mean it is even rare to have a nail technician actually do a follow up call just to see how a client’s nails are going, after having to work their magic on them just to rectify another’s mistakes. Most would leave it up to the client to contact them if any further issues should develop. All I can say is that Tatyana’s work is beyond amazing 🤩👏👏👏👏💕💕💕

My husbands thumb nail looks like this too. He smashed his finger in a door I think or something at work. But his whole nail was gone at the time and he continued working like that for years. I honestly don't know how to fix it or help it to make it look better 🤷🏾♀️🤷🏾♀️ until now lol but this helps.
Edit: it's not necessarily different colors,just feels and looks so rough and bumpy.

Can the deformed nail be fixed by filing the lump on it ? Mine grew back after I smashed it with my car door but it’s a bit deformed with the same lump this video has.
I have hypothyroidism/Hashimotos And my nails deteriorate and look very similar to hers. Except my nail beds get very receded and the crumbling nails catch on everything.
I think that thumbnail looks like that because of fungus after bad application of acrylic, I have the same issue since I was 22 years old and i am 35 years old now , and my nail never was the same , and I had spend a lot of money on medication, after the nails was damage , and I am cosmetology student and nail tech and I have see acouple of those cases , sadly!!
I can’t imagine how sensitive and painful her thumbnail beds must have felt after having so much nail filed off - poor woman! 😩

Even though I leave my nails be I'd be pissed if of all things my fingernails were damaged.
One nail technician been watching TV and hurted me bad. Not as bad as here we see, but my nail never grow nicely anymore
