I find it so weird to see comments like "Poor Oliver didn't sell any umbrellas" or "Oliver goes from door to door"...when Oliver is not the Umbrella Salesman lol he's the narrator of the story, not the character.
+Bobby Arias What do you mean? he's not portrayed as the umbrella salesman. First of all, he's narrating in the third person, not in the first person. Second, in the art here, the Oliver is clearly shown sitting on clouds and playing an instrument and he and the Umbrella Salesman look nothing alike. They are two separate characters
I was yelling things like "DON'T BE OUT IN THE RAIN HERE COME IN TO MY HOUSE", "ILL BUY ALL YOUR UMBRELLAS", and "YOU'RE NOT ALONE IM HERE COME HERE MY BOY LET ME HUG U U SWEET CHILD" and my dad thought I was crazy
This song reminds me about this guy in France that wanted to test out a parachute suit or something. No body believed him, so to prove his invention would work, he jumped off of the Eiffel Tower...it didn't work...
Theory time: the salesman was on hallucinogens (suggested by the mushrooms in the first long instrumental) and was convinced the umbrellas could fly. Oliver was the first to buy one of these umbrellas and believed the salesman about the magic. He jumped off a building with it believing he would fly, therefore dying. That's why he was sitting on the cloud. The people all witnessed it which is why they didn't buy any umbrellas. For the lyrics "but the salesman did in fact touch the ground and felt the sky" he hit the ground and went to heaven. Ok I'm done thnx for reading this rant lol
at time 6:51 a tiny bit of text flickered above someone's head for just a frame when the lyrics says "everyone was lost for words." i clicked pause and play really fast and saw that it reads "except for this guy" oh my gosh
I JUST DID THAT I thought it'd be something like, meaningful for the story and then it was just like "nah this is not important,I just wanted to say that this guy was the only one who wasn't lost for words, you can continue to watch the video"
Alright, so... I heard this for the first time last night. But I couldn't think of a comment to post then; I was literally still, silent, and lost for words. Now that I'm right again, I just have to say... this is beyond gorgeous. The vocals, melody, story, and art make this a masterpiece. The change at around 4 minutes itself nearly wrenched at my heart, since it went from something bright, hopeful, and dreamy, and quickly spiraled into something ominous and depressing. Then it builds back up and becomes a sort of mix of both; dark yet, you can somehow still feel the dreamy determination and faith the salesman had behind his pitch. I'd like to think that he both fell, and flew. After he jumps, he knows what the ethereal fields are like. The umbrella leads him to seeing the greatest sights, and experiencing the greatest magic when he reaches heaven. However, he doesn't really die, as his memory lives with everyone that took an umbrella, and to them, the salesman's undying belief in the umbrellas is the true magic they carry. Agh, as I thought, it's really impossible to put my love for this video into words, and I don't even think I properly expressed my entire thoughts on it, but I tried. I'm still a mess from this, it's probably the first song that's made me tear up since I was a teenager. First you give me eerie feels with Wysteria and Flue Faker, then this one just goes straight into the heart. You guys are absolutely amazing. Bravo.
Hehe, I really didn't mean for it to be a review, but it just ended up making such an impact; I felt like it would be rude to not say anything. But it turned up being a lot longer than I thought. xD; Really wonderful work though. By the way, out of curiosity, will there be any videos coming up for the other songs on your EP? I'm especially interested in the glorious goodies morb could make on a video for The Botanist.
Ryu Tama Took the words right out of my mouth about how I feel about this song. I loved this song sooo much ever since I first heard it and went like "GET A HUNDRED THOUSAND VIEWS ALREADY!!" It had 2,000 of them at the time first I saw it.
+Rainbow Dipped Ah. Thanks. So they weren't magic so when he jumped he died (unless your theory is correct). This just got 10x sadder. Umbrella Salesman commits suicide in plea for someone to buy his umbrellas. This is sadder than Doctor Who, and there people die like every episode.
EDIT June 22 2014: The Next time I will not be giving away the off vocal or vsqx (or mp3 if ever) By number of views instead i will post a riddle or question which you must answer and the answer will serve as the password that will unlock the RAR File containing either the vsqx, off-vocal, and possibly the mp3. Lets have fun
I love the ending. Because it's fully up to interpretation. "Did the Umbrella work?" Could be. The text could both mean it _has_ worked, or it hasn't, and he died from jumping off that place. My first interpretation was that he died. But later on I realized, that is not necessarily the only possibility. It's all up to you. Do you believe in Magic? Or do you not?
I personally believe in magic, and there's maybe magical girls fighting for us, against unknown enemies, and maybe some girl of your class is/was one (My biggest dream is to become a magical girl)
I see the umbrellas as a symbolism for insanity and he tries to get people to see from his point of veiw but no one wants to live that life. In the second verse the umbrella now symbolizes his brain with holes in it based on his lack of sanity and being left out in the cold because no one knows how he feels. When the salesman finds a plan to get the people to "buy his umbrellas" he thinks that be killing himself he will cause others to feel the pain he did ending with them giving him money for his umbrellas of insanity
It seems like Steampianist makes songs that have a "secret meaning" or even more than one and that's amazing, I think that the music itself is there to "smooth" the story behind the lyrics
1:01: when the demand curve for magic umbrellas shifts to the left the supply shifts right. the solution is to lower the price and increase the quantity in demand i think. 1:13: tummy is such a good song. 1:34: There may be something but I tried 30 times and all I saw was white if I paused at that moment 6:13: what do you think happened? x3 6:14: what happened? 6:51: except for this guy 7:37: farwell!
0:47: I have lead a life of only looking above 1:14: marine life in the philippines is bombarded with problems like oil spills, pollution, illegal fishing, climate change among many others most of those problems are caused by humans and their greed and apathy towards the problems the country is facing. we have realized that manufacturing companies exist to satisfy some of our wants and needs but in the process, manufacturing companies may be forced to dump their wastes in lakes or rivers, polluting it and causing sickness to nearby people and life in the body of water. it seems like an indirect fault of our wants and needs but we may also argue that the company should have been responsible in getting rid of wastes, humans conduct illegal fishing and it inflicts severe damage to coral reefs and its destruction leads to even more problems like soil erosion and landslides when a typhoon hits the country. global warming affects the marine ecosystem. when there are abnormal rise of temperature in coastal areas, it cause coral bleaching which is in danger when therestorm surges.. the economy of the phillippines is also being damaged because the country is one of the biggest fish consumers but fish production is reducing due to the damages inflicted to our marine resources. 1:34: Yes it's just white.
I just had a little bit of a theory. Everyone already guessed he died. But... There is a chance his umbrellas were magic. Remember how after the first drop(?) the man uses an umbrella. But it had some holes in it. Think about this for a second. He used the one with holes. The broken umbrella. The umbrella without magic. ...Just an idea. He used a broken umbrella, with no magic, that resulted in his death...
The mushrooms totally changed my perspective. Mushrooms.. are shaped like umbrellas... Oliver was tripping, jumped off of a building, and died. He went to heaven and the people each bought an umbrella out of respect. People already said this, didn't they?
While re-listening to this without watching the PV and I found that you made Oliver clear enough to understand while still maintaining his very smooth voice which very few songs do. I also commend you for not shortening the song simply because it is too long - It's horrible to see things cut down simply to make them a standard length so thanks for the song ^^
I....I want to think this is a happy song and story....but I have a terribly feeling that there's some sort of dark undertone...that I'm not getting...
***** I suppose one way to see it is literally, in a lighter tone, where his umbrella s actually were magic. Or you could view it as he actually did jump off and he died, and the people only "bought" the umbrella's after that. T.T (I'm paraphrasing from what I remember) I need to look into it a bit more. XD its discreet if it has a meaning but its a beautiful and light song.

this is interesting, thanks for writing it down, fascinating how a political message about water pollution in the Philippines was incorporated in this...
I first discovered this in grade school. I thought it was beautiful. I’m almost college now. And I never noticed this as a kid. I never realized how long this song was XD
Even though I have listened to this song numerous times... I still like to think he really did fly. It gets to me everytime because regardless of the somewhat ambiguous ending/tone, I feel like this song shows the saleman's determination and dedication.
I...I literally have no words for this. It's beautiful, and... haunting, for lack of better words. Somehow, the ending actually filled me with dread. Either way, bravo on this song to the both of you, this was a masterpiece.
*_i hav e a t h e o r y_* _so_ *_the umbrella salesman was selling his magic umbrellas, but nobody believed in them. the umbrellas were actually magic umbrellas, but since the salesman became depressed and lost his belief in them, they started losing their power. he wanted to prove the people that they were magical, but he couldn't even believe it at this point. but the people were begging and begging to him to prove it. the man was so stressed, he couldn't think of anything besides his umbrellas. were they really magical? the man decided to jump off a building to test them. at first, he was confident. but when he jumped, and saw the crowd, and realized what is he actually doing, he got reminded of the people's words. "magic isn't real." he lost his belief. he fell, and hit the ground._*
Let me take your hand and fly Through the blue sky No matter where i go I will hold your hand and fly Ill make you smile Forever in time I WONT LET YOU CRY
I declare myself a total fan of yours and Morb's work. This song is not only a perfect usage of Oliver's library, but a great production, the sounds, the contrast of the melody... Excellent work. Total like, subscribe and, if you release an album one day, be sure I'll buy it.
You really deserve it. I love steampunk music, as much as pretty well programmed Vocaloids. And you combine both perfectly. I'll be waiting for your next production! (^^)/
video means a lot to me ♥️ thank you for making it so much. i have a close friend who pasted away only two days ago, and she showed me this video. this is the only thing that helps me calm down and stop crying at the thought of her. the more i watch this, the more beautiful it becomes. thank you.

I almost thought the umbrellas were magic but "the boy touched the ground" fell and died "and felt the sky" it's either he felt the sky from falling or he's going to the sky 'caause he died. And the people bought his umbrelly from pity I guess.
This is a lot different than your other songs w/ oliver. All the others are dark and sad. I'm not saying I don't like the other songs, but this one is so incredibly written and the animation to go with it makes it one of the best. All I can say is you are amazing
This is one of the greatest songs I’ve ever heard in my life. It gave me chills multiple times, and of course I’ve cried. The art is stunning, the music is unique, and the story is one of the best stories behind a song I’ve ever heard. I don’t understand how talent like this is overlooked and people like Cardi B get famous for twerking and singing about money. This is amazing. Thank you for this masterpiece.
The sound at the end sounds more like the sound of someone instantly about to hit the ground rather than the sound of a UFO if that's what it's supposed to sound like at all.
The song tells the story of a umbrella salesman who attempts to sell magic umbrellas. However, he faces constant shunning for his outrageous claims about the umbrellas "magic". In the end, in an attempt to prove they are magical, he climbs a 40 foot building and shouts out to the people below him his sales pitch. Upon which he leaps into the sky while holding an umbrella. Afterwards, his umbrellas are left scattered on the ground, to which the people of the city finally buy them.
// beautifully written, it certainly is added to my UA-cam playlist Oliver's Greatest Hits! The ending to this song made me cry so wonderfully written!
i absolutely love this song also, as with legit every steampianist song, *theory time* it could mean many different things and i think all of them are valid but what i think immediately is that the umbrella salesman symbolizes an examplel of a person who gave in to himself. i see him most of the time as a person who committed suicide, perhaps not necessarily in a public setting [assuming that the umbrella part is metaphorical] but what we see here is that all his umbrellas are very eye-catching and colorful, and so was his style of death. this could mean one of two things or both simultaneously. he could have been a person in the public eye because he was famous, popular, or insane. which is probably why his death was so surprising and attention-gaining. we also see that his death method in this metaphor is dramatic, which could mean he did something horrific, shocking, or otherwise unconventional to end his life. he was incredibly hyped to escape existing in general, but whenever he tried to communicate his emotions to other people they were weirded out and probably pitied him, looked down on him, or dismissed him. this left him even more sad because nobody listened to him or made an effort to understand him. as for the day it rained, that must have been a significantly bad day in the man's life, and therefore he used his umbrella [or fantasizing about/planning to die] to escape either the bad feelings he had on that day or whatever traumatic event triggered his intense depressive episode. when his umbrellas had some holes, this could signify that upon second thought his idea of dying felt incomplete to him. he realized that a lot of his problems might not be solved by ceasing to live, or perhaps he was scared of letting someone down/the possibility of an afterlife where he would be shamed and looked down on for the negative feelings he had in this life. the discontentedness began to sink in once the idea of death stopped being stable and he reached an incredibly low point. no one wants his umbrellas because they're worried he might become a bad example to society or they don't feel like it's worth the time or effort of listening to his feelings or ideas. there's no such thing as magic in his life because even though death might seem like magic to him at times, it always comes at a cost and living itself is difficult. he realizes that for death to exist, life must also exist, and neither of them is really 'magic.' finally, he made a legitimate plan he would follow through on. the thing about his plan of death is, it got him what he thought he wanted as well as what he didn't realize he wanted. on the surface level, he wanted to die, and that was what he'd thought of all along. he also wanted to feel validated by other people, however; and so by making such a bold move [either by killing himself in the social position he was in, having a shocking death or both] he gained their attention and got validated. i'm not saying that all his problems came from wanting attention and validation, but that was the one problem besides his dysphoria around existence in general that was not so obvious to him. it was a real bird's eye view because while dying he finally got to see his life from a perspective outside his own head. but from there, all of his emotions became a blur and it was too late before he could think about whether or not his death was at that point a good thing or a bad thing. before he could have a single regret, he thought that dying itself [not deciding how, when, or if to die though] was the easiest thing in the world and that everyone would be put out of their misery if they died. when the people took the umbrellas, they either started to understand him and even possibly thought in the way he did for themselves [heance taking the physical umbrellas] and left their payment in the street, they payment, in this case, being the validation he got only after he was no longer alive. okay this comment is long as heck and i'm sorry if someone else had a similar theory, this is also probably very repetitive. there are other theories with equal validity and those are great too. this is just the first one i thought of.
To me it feels like this song is about the disenchantment of the world: when the Umbrella Salesman is younger he believes in the beauty of the world (the magic umbrellas) and the kindness of people, but as he gets older he realizes "there's no such thing as magic": the people won't buy his umbrellas, they're too busy with their own lives to care about him. To me the umbrella salesman represents all the people who are not heard in this world and who suffer in silence. Unable to cope with the disenchantment of the world the Umbrella Salesman commits suicide, and it's only after this happened that the people are willing to look at him. That is, until they are over the shock and move on with their lives.
When the demand curve for Magic umbrellas Shifts to the left the supply Shifts right. The solution Is to lower the price and increase The quantity of demand. I think
OML WHEN HE SAID HIS UMBREALLAS WERE MAGIC AND THEN SAID HIS SALES PTITCH WHICH IS "FLOAT UP TO THE SKY ABOVE YOU," HE MAY HAVE MEANT THAT IT WORKED BUT NOT IN THEY WAY THAT YOU WOULD THINK. THE WHOLE POINT WAS IT TO HAVE YOU DIE THEN "FLOAT UP" TO HAVEN SO HE WAS RIGHT JUST PEOPLE WEREN'T UNDERSTANDING WHAT HE MEANT ABT MAGIC.
Lyrics cuz I'm bored: A busy young salesman Goes from door to door Selling magic umbrellas See such wonderous sights But no one believed him Not a single word he said He knocked on all the doors But no one answered him This left the man depressed For no one bought an umbrella from him 🎶 🎶 Then one day it rained So the man used his umbrellas But oh it had some holes And rain water poured over him This left the man in the cold He's all alone in this world And people doubt his umbrellas They doubt its magic 🎶 🎶 No one wants his umbrellas Theres no such thing as magic 🎶 🎶 So the man found his way to the top Of a forty foot building As he gazed upon the city The people looked to him Hes determined to show them all He will prove his umbrellas are magic With a firm resolve And a strong clear voice He shouted out his sales pitch: 🎶 4:57 Float up to the skys above you It's a real birds eye view See comets and shooting stars Come and lay in the silver clouds Come with me let us bask in the great suns Radiant light that warms our souls Take my hands we shall reach for the heavens Let us walk the ethereal fields 🎶 🎶 Everything stood still.... The city was silent... Did the umbrellas work? Everyone was lost for words But the salesman did in fact... Touch the ground and felt the sky Then the people took each an umbrella And left the money on the ground
“When the demand curve for magic umbrellas shifts to the left the supply shifts right. The solution is to lower the price and increase the quantity of demand....i think” idk what this means I just happened to stop on the frame on 1:01
I love this song, Oliver is such a great storyteller, and no other voice can come to even compare to this vocaloid. This is beautiful, and it's the best price of music I have ever heard in this day in age. So many ups and downs, but I still cried in the end. I had no idea what to think. "Did he die? Did they work? What happened?" But, I'm sure he's still smiling wherever he is.
If you pause at the right moment where the UFO is flying. You'll see a text that says farewell. Just put the playback speed to the slowest speed and you'll be able to pause at the right moment.
When the demand curve for magic umbrellas shifts to the left, the supply shifts right. The solution is to lower the price and increase the quantity of demand. i think.
I only found "When the demand curve for magic umbrellas shifts to the left the supply shifts right. The solution is to lower the price and increase the quantity of demand I think" and "Crypte"
A few sentences in the sales pitch I got a slight ominous feeling... it sounds suspiciously like Paradise/Heaven... then immediately after that thought the part where the salesman had that grin came and it turned to dread. Um, I thought that this could be Death who was trying to convince people the umbrellas are magic so they'll jump off a building and die... *embarrassed cough* but that doesn't explain why he would jump off a building himself. So he was probably delusional, and believed the umbrellas are magic. "The salesman did in fact, touch the ground and felt the sky" Made me think he fell to his death and really went to that fantastical land he said in his salespitch(heaven). The people was shocked into silence, took the umbrellas that had fallen from his hands, and left money on the ground in respect. Poor guy... I really really like this. The drawings had a story book feel that matches the story. The tune really made me feel it, specially at the part of the salespitch, it left me a little in wonder and awe(except for that feeling of dread when I thought of that 'Death' theory haha) as the salesman decribed that land.
1:01 When the demand curve for magic umbrellas shifts to the left the supply shifts right. The solution is to lower the price and increase the quantity of demand. I think. 1:13 tummy is such a good song 1:14 .... (I think Steam is talking about something in Philipines, too long btw :V) I have no idea what the heck is this :V
I think the story is, a young boy would advertise that he was selling magic umbrellas. No one believed him, and they told him magic doesn't exist. To prove they were magic, he set to jump off a building. It didn't work, he died. But they left umbrellas with money as a memorial to him. Just how I interpreted it... Could be wrong.
I find it so weird to see comments like "Poor Oliver didn't sell any umbrellas" or "Oliver goes from door to door"...when Oliver is not the Umbrella Salesman lol he's the narrator of the story, not the character.
Then why is oliver portrayed as such?
+Bobby Arias What do you mean? he's not portrayed as the umbrella salesman. First of all, he's narrating in the third person, not in the first person. +MrMrMrprofessor good point.
Hey, I’m not dead! >:o
I mean shit, for a little boy he knows too many fucked up and depressed stories
"Touched the ground and felt the sky"
He fell to his death and wen to heaven basically
No
Not really
I mean he died but we don't know where he went exactly
U N K N O W N He went into the skyyyyyyyyyy!!
Or, he touched the ground (Was made fun of by everyone) and felt the sky (proved the magic of his Umbrellas and flew~)

How cute but incredibly morbid.
Me at the beginning of the song: Aww, I'd buy an umbrella from himMe at the end of the song: AwW i'D bUy an UmbrElLa frOm hIM *gross sobbing*

And yes, this was extremely sad.

It make me think more of Franz Richelts death in 1912
But is it real some say it fake
Maybe an inspriration?
Not to mention at the end of the song you can hear the sound of someone about to hit the ground from a really high place.

Kits, Oliver couldn't of possibly buy an umbrella, since he's not a character in the story but instead, he's the narrator.
@@natashahillocks-chambers4912 Little late to the discussion but pretty sure Oliver's narrating the story after he has died.
You could be right
but is this a real story?

The Umbrella Salesman is so deep and beautiful. I'm just sitting here admiring it, replaying it over and over
easy on the replay
^^' Of course
I love the ending. Because it's fully up to interpretation. "Did the Umbrella work?" Could be. The text could both mean it _has_ worked, or it hasn't, and he died from jumping off that place. My first interpretation was that he died. But later on I realized, that is not necessarily the only possibility. It's all up to you.
Do you believe in Magic? Or do you not?
I personally believe in magic, and there's maybe magical girls fighting for us, against unknown enemies, and maybe some girl of your class is/was one
(My biggest dream is to become a magical girl)
How is this not more popular?
I know right!
+roxiegal123 Like this has become one of my fav songs ever
Ikr
Gangsta rap is more popular apperantly.
I see the umbrellas as a symbolism for insanity and he tries to get people to see from his point of veiw but no one wants to live that life. In the second verse the umbrella now symbolizes his brain with holes in it based on his lack of sanity and being left out in the cold because no one knows how he feels. When the salesman finds a plan to get the people to "buy his umbrellas" he thinks that be killing himself he will cause others to feel the pain he did ending with them giving him money for his umbrellas of insanity
wow...
MissMajora255 That’s pretty deep...
...
It seems like Steampianist makes songs that have a "secret meaning" or even more than one and that's amazing, I think that the music itself is there to "smooth" the story behind the lyrics
Salesman I will take an umbrella. Even if they are not magic they look much nicer than ones you can buy in shops.
I know, right?

I love the watercolor themed art it's so beautiful.
I have a feeling that you were somehow involved in the art for Madoka Magica.
right!?!
I thought i was alone :') (sorry for my English ^^')
I just had a little bit of a theory.
Everyone already guessed he died. But...
There is a chance his umbrellas were magic.
Remember how after the first drop(?) the man uses an umbrella. But it had some holes in it.
Think about this for a second.
He used the one with holes.
The broken umbrella. The umbrella without magic.
...Just an idea.
He used a broken umbrella, with no magic, that resulted in his death...
Moral of the story...
This man is most likely dead.
Y e s
The mushrooms totally changed my perspective.
Mushrooms.. are shaped like umbrellas...
Oliver was tripping, jumped off of a building, and died. He went to heaven and the people each bought an umbrella out of respect.
People already said this, didn't they?
me with you Oliver isn’t the salesman, though
Yea, I think he died and they got umbrellas in memory of him. That ending sound scared the hell out of me, not gonna lie.
I was ready to cry at the end. Congratulations for making such a beautiful and meaningful song :3
He cant sell any umbrellas because he was knocking on doors with nothing behind them..

true dat
I REFUSE TO BELIEVE THAT HE KILLED HIMSELF
NO
HE FLEW AWAY FROM THE CITY WITH HIS MAGIC UMBRELLAS
I DON'T WANT HIM TO DIE ;-;
POV: Oliver is reading you his favorite bedtime story as you question his sanity
Yes
I'd so buy an umbrella for this guy
This is so beautiful!
thank you
This song deserves much more recognition, I mean, the feels are real here
Am I the only one who gets a 'Le Petit Prince' vibe from this?
Holy fish I see what you mean!
No but twaddles of a flue faker reminds of oliver twist if thi is somehow related
It's gentle and calm, lovely, beautiful ballad!!
"Please look up"
All i see is the sky bro i'm at a field what are you trying to make me see-
I....I want to think this is a happy song and story....but I have a terribly feeling that there's some sort of dark undertone...that I'm not getting...
it depends on how you see it
***** I suppose one way to see it is literally, in a lighter tone, where his umbrella s actually were magic. Or you could view it as he actually did jump off and he died, and the people only "bought" the umbrella's after that. T.T (I'm paraphrasing from what I remember) I need to look into it a bit more. XD its discreet if it has a meaning but its a beautiful and light song.
I think that what he meant by magic was not litteral, but metaphorical.
***** I was thinking of something along those lines as well. Regardless its a beautiful song. XD

I first discovered this in grade school. I thought it was beautiful.
I’m almost college now. And I never noticed this as a kid.
I never realized how long this song was XD
Lmao
i don't know exactly why but this made me cry. Awesome song that I'll probably replay for the rest of my life
Even though I have listened to this song numerous times...

*_the umbrella salesman was selling his magic umbrellas, but nobody believed in them. the umbrellas were actually magic umbrellas, but since the salesman became depressed and lost his belief in them, they started losing their power. he wanted to prove the people that they were magical, but he couldn't even believe it at this point. but the people were begging and begging to him to prove it. the man was so stressed, he couldn't think of anything besides his umbrellas. were they really magical? the man decided to jump off a building to test them. at first, he was confident. but when he jumped, and saw the crowd, and realized what is he actually doing, he got reminded of the people's words. "magic isn't real." he lost his belief. he fell, and hit the ground._*
Reminds Me Of The Happy Mask Salesman....The Song Is Nice And Creepyish But I Love It. So Beautiful And The Sound Of it, The Melody And Lyrics..

Steampianist I love that song.
I declare myself a total fan of yours and Morb's work.
This song is not only a perfect usage of Oliver's library, but a great production, the sounds, the contrast of the melody... Excellent work.
Total like, subscribe and, if you release an album one day, be sure I'll buy it.
And I greatly appreciate your support
You really deserve it. I love steampunk music, as much as pretty well programmed Vocaloids.
And you combine both perfectly. I'll be waiting for your next production! (^^)/
He's got everything he needs to make an album - I mean that sales pitch...
This made me cry. Literally.
video means a lot to me ♥️ thank you for making it so much. i have a close friend who pasted away only two days ago, and she showed me this video. this is the only thing that helps me calm down and stop crying at the thought of her. the more i watch this, the more beautiful it becomes. thank you.

Honesty one of my favorites
that UFO screech at the end scared me, I thought it was the guy falling downwards and
screaming
Jeez lol
I almost thought the umbrellas were magic but "the boy touched the ground" fell and died "and felt the sky" it's either he felt the sky from falling or he's going to the sky 'caause he died. And the people bought his umbrelly from pity I guess.
Why are all of your Oliver songs about death?
why not?
@@pogsex74 he is twelve years old
That Animation style tho.. Mesmerizing and very pretty.
morbid will be pleased
This is a lot different than your other songs w/ oliver. All the others are dark and sad. I'm not saying I don't like the other songs, but this one is so incredibly written and the animation to go with it makes it one of the best. All I can say is you are amazing
The is one of the best songs. It's so beautiful.
100% made me cry. Fantastic, a beautiful story and song.
Is there a meaning to this beautiful song?
+L Lawliet Probably
The umbrellas were actually shrooms that get you high and make you see things. He got high and jumped off a building.
That was bloody marvellous. Blown away.
Hey man! Thanks for giving it a listen
Hey guys. If this song ever makes you sad, just remember that everyone was lost for words...except for that guy.
The sound at the end sounds more like the sound of someone instantly about to hit the ground rather than the sound of a UFO if that's what it's supposed to sound like at all.
This is the anthem of every posthumously recognized artist who were not appreciated much during their lifetime.
And, yes, I'm looking at you, Vincent.
I like how this song suggests a happy tone, but the lyrics and meldy turn the BGM around into a sad turn.
THIS is my favorite song ever sang by Oliver.I'm in love with it!Awesome job!
// beautifully written, it certainly is added to my UA-cam playlist Oliver's Greatest Hits! The ending to this song made me cry so wonderfully written!
i absolutely love this song
also, as with legit every steampianist song, *theory time*
it could mean many different things and i think all of them are valid but what i think immediately is that the umbrella salesman symbolizes an examplel of a person who gave in to himself. i see him most of the time as a person who committed suicide, perhaps not necessarily in a public setting [assuming that the umbrella part is metaphorical] but what we see here is that all his umbrellas are very eye-catching and colorful, and so was his style of death. this could mean one of two things or both simultaneously.
he could have been a person in the public eye because he was famous, popular, or insane. which is probably why his death was so surprising and attention-gaining. we also see that his death method in this metaphor is dramatic, which could mean he did something horrific, shocking, or otherwise unconventional to end his life.
he was incredibly hyped to escape existing in general, but whenever he tried to communicate his emotions to other people they were weirded out and probably pitied him, looked down on him, or dismissed him. this left him even more sad because nobody listened to him or made an effort to understand him.
as for the day it rained, that must have been a significantly bad day in the man's life, and therefore he used his umbrella [or fantasizing about/planning to die] to escape either the bad feelings he had on that day or whatever traumatic event triggered his intense depressive episode.
when his umbrellas had some holes, this could signify that upon second thought his idea of dying felt incomplete to him. he realized that a lot of his problems might not be solved by ceasing to live, or perhaps he was scared of letting someone down/the possibility of an afterlife where he would be shamed and looked down on for the negative feelings he had in this life. the discontentedness began to sink in once the idea of death stopped being stable and he reached an incredibly low point.
no one wants his umbrellas because they're worried he might become a bad example to society or they don't feel like it's worth the time or effort of listening to his feelings or ideas.
there's no such thing as magic in his life because even though death might seem like magic to him at times, it always comes at a cost and living itself is difficult. he realizes that for death to exist, life must also exist, and neither of them is really 'magic.'
finally, he made a legitimate plan he would follow through on.
the thing about his plan of death is, it got him what he thought he wanted as well as what he didn't realize he wanted. on the surface level, he wanted to die, and that was what he'd thought of all along. he also wanted to feel validated by other people, however; and so by making such a bold move [either by killing himself in the social position he was in, having a shocking death or both] he gained their attention and got validated. i'm not saying that all his problems came from wanting attention and validation, but that was the one problem besides his dysphoria around existence in general that was not so obvious to him.
it was a real bird's eye view because while dying he finally got to see his life from a perspective outside his own head. but from there, all of his emotions became a blur and it was too late before he could think about whether or not his death was at that point a good thing or a bad thing. before he could have a single regret, he thought that dying itself [not deciding how, when, or if to die though] was the easiest thing in the world and that everyone would be put out of their misery if they died.
when the people took the umbrellas, they either started to understand him and even possibly thought in the way he did for themselves [heance taking the physical umbrellas] and left their payment in the street, they payment, in this case, being the validation he got only after he was no longer alive.
okay this comment is long as heck and i'm sorry if someone else had a similar theory, this is also probably very repetitive. there are other theories with equal validity and those are great too. this is just the first one i thought of.
Gave me goosebumps :D Amazing work as always
Such a wonderful story. Beautiful music video and lyrics.
Thank you.
Truly fantastic! Steampiants and Morbid-Morsel you have done it again! Every time I listen to this song I am breath-taken! Thank You.
When the demand curve for
Magic umbrellas
Shifts to the left the supply
Shifts right. The solution
Is to lower the price and increase
The quantity of demand.
I think
Steam why would you do this I'm _cRYING_
I always come back to this song, i do believe it is one of my favorite ones by you and is a definite gem!
Nuuuu umbrella salesman I'll take them all ;n;
*sobbing is heard coming from the corner of the room*
Ok that will be 20$ plus tax and hidden charges and that would be a total of over 9000$ please
Steampianist TAKE MY MONEY *shoves money in general direction*
The fact that this was released on my birthday makes this even better
Lyrics cuz I'm bored:
A busy young salesman
Goes from door to door
Selling magic umbrellas
See such wonderous sights
But no one believed him
Not a single word he said
He knocked on all the doors
But no one answered him
This left the man depressed
For no one bought an umbrella from him
🎶
🎶
Then one day it rained
So the man used his umbrellas
But oh it had some holes
And rain water poured over him
This left the man in the cold
He's all alone in this world
And people doubt his umbrellas
They doubt its magic
🎶
🎶
No one wants his umbrellas
Theres no such thing as magic
🎶
🎶
So the man found his way to the top
Of a forty foot building
As he gazed upon the city
The people looked to him
Hes determined to show them all
He will prove his umbrellas are magic
With a firm resolve
And a strong clear voice
He shouted out his sales pitch:
🎶
4:57
Float up to the skys above you
It's a real birds eye view
See comets and shooting stars
Come and lay in the silver clouds
Come with me
let us bask in the great suns
Radiant light that warms our souls
Take my hands we shall reach for the heavens
Let us walk the ethereal fields
🎶
🎶
Everything stood still....
The city was silent...
Did the umbrellas work?
Everyone was lost for words
But the salesman did in fact...
Touch the ground and felt the sky
Then the people took each an umbrella
And left the money on the ground
The nostalgia
This song is truly amazing! I've shared it with a bunch of my friends and everyone loves your work!
thank you very much for sharing the song :D
Oh my god songs that tell stories are the best things. I have a new favorite song.
What happened?" But, I'm sure he's still smiling wherever he is.
you must really love collages, it's in almost every single one of your videos
steampianist and kikuo are my favorite composers i love listening to their songs when i draw. :3
If you pause at the right moment where the UFO is flying. You'll see a text that says farewell.
Just put the playback speed to the slowest speed and you'll be able to pause at the right moment.
This is beautiful.
This is so cuuuuute! Steampianist has so much talent and so does Morb!
When the demand curve for magic umbrellas shifts to the left, the supply shifts right. The solution is to lower the price and increase the quantity of demand.
i think.
I only found
"When the demand curve for magic umbrellas shifts to the left the supply shifts right. The solution is to lower the price and increase the quantity of demand
I think" and
"Crypte"
random morb stuff
This will always be my favorite Steampanist song.
Never fails to make me tear up. It's so **chokes on tears** beautiful.
Still waiting to see a re-mastered of this beautiful PV
1:01 When the demand curve for magic umbrellas shifts to the left the supply shifts right. The solution is to lower the price and increase the quantity of demand. I think.
1:13 tummy is such a good song
1:14 .... (I think Steam is talking about something in Philipines, too long btw :V)
I have no idea what the heck is this :V
oooo tysm
I think the story is, a young boy would advertise that he was selling magic umbrellas. No one believed him, and they told him magic doesn't exist. To prove they were magic, he set to jump off a building. It didn't work, he died. But they left umbrellas with money as a memorial to him. Just how I interpreted it... Could be wrong.
