    Did you buy any cable for the ssd or did you use the cd player ones? (Because i don't use it so might as well use the cables)

    • @optimallyobscureperformanc6264

      If you do not need the CD player, you can leave it unplugged, then there is no need for the USB adapters i installed for it. I used the CD player cables for the SSD, but as the CD player uses Slimline SATA, you still need a Slimline SATA to regular SATA adapter.

    I understand the addition of the internal USB 2.0 card, but, then I guess you are reconnecting the existing DVD drive with a USB 2.0 to mini-Sata cable? How well will the DVD drive then perform? Since adding a GPU card didn't help much, what about a HD controller in the PCI slot?

    • @optimallyobscureperformanc6264
      @optimallyobscureperformanc6264  2 роки тому

      To be honest i just tested that the DVD drive worked by reading a random old driver cd and i think running some program off of it, and at least that worked. I never had any use for a DVD drive myself. There are many USB2 external DVD drives so i thought speed shouldn't be a problem. Good point, you probably could (haven't tested) add a PCIE to SATA card to get more SATA connectors, and that would be simpler and preferable way to add SATA connectors if that PCIE slot is available.

      Well, since the CPU was a bottleneck in many games i realized that this isn't a sensible/balanced build and the GT1030 would be way better used with another PC. So i sold this PC without the graphics card pretty much immediately after this video, didn't really use it for anything else. I later installed that card in another cheap PC with 6th gen i3: ua-cam.com/video/Qj4nZWVYTVw/v-deo.html

      You can buy any SATA 2.5inch SSD. Then follow this video but put the SSD in instead of HDD. It will use different threaded screws than the HDD. Just attach it somewhere where it will stay secure. Then you need to install windows again from USB drive. ua-cam.com/video/QD1g8JzYb9I/v-deo.html

    Hello I finally got all the parts from AliExpress that you led me to and installed them. Everything was good until I connected the hard drive. For some reason Acer is booting from the hard drive first instead of the SSD. The SSD boots fine on its own without the HD connected.

      I would first just try swapping the sata cables for hdd and ssd around on the motherboard side. If that wont work, then bios options should provide a way to rearrange boot device order. If that wont work either, i would get rid of any bootable os/bootloader on the hdd by erasing it (if it had one in the first place).

      The reason there are 9-pin and 5-pin (or 4-pin, because one hole has no pin) headers, is that former ones are for 2 ports, latter ones for 1 port (row of 4 pins for each port). I put the HUB on the 4-pin one because the hub only has 4 pins, so uses only 1 port anyway. When you connect stuff to the 5 (or 4) pin headers you need to be careful that it is the right way around and on the correct pins, since it is not as obvious as the 9-pin ones (not keyed and thus can be inserted wrong, and cause damage).

My PC had 65w power brick, if you have the same that is not enough for most low profile GPUs. I think the GPU must have TDP under 25w to be safe to use with the pc, for example 1050ti has 75w TDP. • @optimallyobscureperformanc6264
      @optimallyobscureperformanc6264  2 роки тому

      Yes i did use too much as the CPU is just the bare die on this PC and doesn't have a large IHS like normal socketed CPU, but it was sort of a test/benchmark situation and with bare die it's more critical (compared to a CPU with IHS) that the entire surface area is covered, so my thinking was i'll rather put too much than too little. I think i checked that the thermal paste i used was non-conductive and it didn't cause me problems despite a lot of it getting on the motherboard PCB.

      @@NoOneAlive_ I don't know what that uses, probably different versions of that have different bricks like with this one. You can look at the brick to find out its wattage. My brick was 65w, it did not tell the wattage, only volts and amps from which i calculated the 65w.

      @@optimallyobscureperformanc6264 my pc also said the power is 65 w. Which made me worry because graphics card usually used 300w. Is it okay just to put in the gpu?

      @@NoOneAlive_ No, you can't use most GPUs with that power brick. The one i was using in this video is GT1030 DDR4 version, which has only 20w tdp. I'm not aware of any other GPUs that have this low power consumption and are still better than the integrated graphics.

      I think some people have tried, it works but is not better than integrated graphics really. And CPU is very bad for gaming too.

      Do you mean how much did this cost? PC i got for 60€, GPU i took from another PC, but GT 1030 costs around 70-90€. Extra 4gb RAM maybe 10€. I do not recommend to build this PC, CPU too weak, GPU too expensive, so bad price-to-performance. Only if you already have this PC and get a REALLY good deal or have unused GT 1030. Otherwise way better option is Dell Optiplex or HP ProDesk, i have made videos about those too.

      Hello, I have a question, can I install an SSD card in tandem with my current 1 tb HDD, where my SSD will be the main while the HDD is for storage only or will it conflict with each other
