I'm a bit disappointed that Fumi didn't get to tell Akira how she felt about her on the night they visited their old elementary school. Even if Akira didn't reciprocate her feelings, at least Fumi would have been able to move on knowing that she at least told Akira instead of keeping them to herself. Oh well, at least the manga continued the story for 2 more volumes, so maybe these two started dating before the manga's end.
Yeah, they do start to date, but then Akira feels that maybe she rushed into things and that what she felt for Fumi wasn’t romantic love, so she breaks up with Fumi. Years later, at a reunion, as Fumi and Akira are alone, Akira confesses to Fumi that she does love her and that she just had more growing up to do before she could realize that and the series ends with them finally in a fully committed relationship. Such a rough journey for poor Fumi, but at least it ended on a happy note! 😊
I was confused since I thought this was a shoujo ai yuri at first then thought the cover was just the best friends and thought this was some normal school romance of young girls finding first love and then when I looked it up I realized this was actually a shoujo ai.
