    HI everyone. Melissa here from CloudMom! So excited to be talking about my favorite topic today, babies. I'm going to be showing you guys step-by-step how to prepare a bottle for your baby. Don't worry -- soon this will be second nature for you.
    First, a brief note on water. Talk to your pediatrician and see whether he recommends that you boil the water for your formula or whether tap water in your area is safe for your baby. Your pediatrician also might recommend that you do not use filtered or bottled water for your formula. Finally, he might recommend that you boil the bottle, nipple, and ring so that all that stuff stays super clean. Check with him and see what he thinks. I did do this by setting up a little "boiling station" where I boiled all my stuff at the end of each day. Make this part of your routine.
    Ok, so for today, I am using boiled water. Water should be brought to a full boil for one minute, and then turned off to cool.
    Before your prepare your bottle, wash your hands thoroughly. Then, check to make sure there is no loose dirt on the top of your formula container, since that can get in the formula. Also check the expiration date on the formula to make sure it is nice and fresh.
    Once my water has cooled, I pour it into my bottle. I am using four ounces today. For every two ounces of water, I am going to use one un-packed scoopful of formula. Remember, DO NOT skimp on the amount of the formula since this is crucial nutrition for your baby.
    With the water and the power in there in the right amounts, close the bottle tightly and shake. Try twisting your wrist as you shake. If you are using prepared formula, you should still shake but you can shake a bit less.
    Your bottle is ready to go!
    So that about wraps it up. I hope this video has answered your questions! Feel free to comment below if you have other questions and I'll do my best to answer them. Thank you so much for watching and see you next time!

    i appreciate you making a video like this, without any mention of how "breast milk is best!" of course, as a new mom i desperately wanted to exclusively nurse, but after lots of issues - one definitely being PPD! - i made peace with needing to formula feed (my daughter was not gaining weight sufficiently on breastmilk due to a number of reasons), and while there is still guilt associated with it, she is a thriving, healthy, smart girl. all thanks to formula :) for any moms on a budget, don't be afraid of store brand formula! i have been feeding my daughter the target brand for many months without an issue.

      rebeccaelda I am in the same boat. Started crying today because she is not latching well and I need her to grow... I believe formula is in our future. I will look into the target brand. Is there a particular name?

      rebeccaelda exactly. Not all moms can breast feed for any number of reasons and that is no one’s business. As long as baby is getting what he or she needs to be healthy and happy.

    My daughter is 2 weeks and she was born with some thing that she was the clothing size of a 0to3 months and she had to gain weight and so now I'm feeding her about 4 to 5 bottles which are each 4 ounces so now she weighs around 7 pounds but when she was born she weighed around 4 and a half pound but she was born at 34 Weeks. But she eats for 3 to 4 minutes each bottle so the doctor says that we can just keep this schedule. So it's fine 😊

    I know the tap water in my area is not good. I was using a water that we get from a water store to mix the formula but cause it takes 15mins to cool down. My sister said to use baby water. It's made for baby and it's always in a room temperature. What do you think of this? I have not found anywhere about this?

    This was a great video. My little guy is 6 weeks and was premature. Now he is getting bigger wooohoooo.
    I never made formula in my life. Neither has my wife. Would shaking make air bubbles? Or after you shake it do you wait a few mins before giving it to baby
    We were spoiled my little guy is still on neo sure which is pre made bottles. It costs a small fortune but I don’t care bc he is growing 😀

    Hello Melissa,
    My baby likes a little warm milk or formula. She either rejects or take reluctantly if it's not warm to her choice. So, I guessed all babies are different !! Shall be I abide by her choice or should I give her body temperature milk/formula and let her adjust.
    Secondly, I always wanted to ask, what do you mean by hot spots in the bottle?? Is it areas of hotter and cooler fluid?? Can't we just shake the bottle and they would just mix up ? Am I getting it wrong??
    Thank you for all these videos. I adore and admire you a lot. How do you do it with 5 kids??? You're an inspiration!
    Lots of love.

    Once you mix the formula to the water, the volume increases. So if you use 4oz of water and 2 scoops of formula, then check to see the oz in the bottle, it's always more (about 4.25-4.5oz). Would you still consider that 4 oz?

    • @naaalla
      @naaalla 8 років тому

      I'm asking bc my baby's doctor said to give 4oz per feeding and to make sure of the amount, I always toss out the excess amount.

    • @BeaVaneX
      @BeaVaneX 8 років тому +1

      +Naaalla I don't think that's necessary
      precisely because of what she mentioned about the amount of formula per oz of water the baby is receiving. The increase in volume is accounted for (and it's mostly foam anyway, right?) and if u throw away the excess then the baby is not really getting the full two scoops of formula that r supposed to be in 4 oz of milk u prepared.

    • @cloudmom
      @cloudmom  8 років тому +2

      +Beatriz Rodríguez de C. Hello. OK, so both of you guys are geniuses. This is a great question and I have to consult with a dr. I would think that you are supposed to mis the 4 ounces of water with the 2 ounces of formula and that is a 4 ounce bottle. I would not toss out the excess. And here is the thing, if your baby drinks it, your baby needs it. And after that baby downs the bottle if she still seems hungry, you have to prepare more anyway. So the exact quantity is not SO SO important unless there is a concern that your baby is not eating enough. If they baby is eating enough and gaining weight, which you doctor will tell you, then you will be guided by the baby rather than the amount in the bottle. When the baby is awake and full -- i.e. refusing more milk -- you stop giving the bottle. Let me know if this makes sense and thanks for commenting. Melissa

Send in enough milk either in bags or bottles in the black square case that comes with the pump or a similar case that can accommodate a frozen pack. Then, send in 4 bottles. Tell the day care people to put your milk in the fridge. 30 minutes before the baby is due to eat they take out the milk, put it in warm water until it is the right temperature, and then put it in a clean bottle. I recommend sending in the right amount of clean bottles b/c you want to make sure they are pristine. This is ALOT of work I know to prepare all this. I hope this advice will help. Love and best of luck with your baby, Melissa

    I'm from the uk! Drs have nothing to do with babies over here, from when you find out you're handed over to midwifery.. once your baby's born you're visited and welcome to visit health visitors :) they tell you everything you need to know. You're an amazing woman and I enjoy watching your vids (not pregnant) but I have to say It's scary how many people rely on you and UA-cam.. PICK UP A BOOK guys omg 😂😂😂

      After 6 months babies no longer need boiled water (depending on the quality of water where you live). That’s why you’d ask your doctor when they feel comfortable with you no longer boiling the water.

    • @amyblades3426

      Ems BrownEyes she’s teaching you how to work a steriliser... so therefor it’s clearly for before 6 months.

    I love your videos and am not trying to troll or be rude so I apologize if it comes across that way. I've found working in the healthcare profession doctors are often just referred to as "he". I understand it's carried over from years of most doctors being primarily male and almost subconscious at this point. I'm sure you were not even thinking about this when filming but wanted to make reference to it. I hope someday soon it will be normal to not place gender specific names to different roles. I do love your videos!

      +liz4921r Hello!!!! I totally agree!! In my videos, I mix it up. Babies are "he" and "she" and I do the same for doctors. In a lot of my videos, they are "she." Once I go for one, I tend to stick with it. It just gets hard to keeping saying "he or she". But I really appreciate the input and if you have a suggestion, I am all ears. Melissa
