I love this band so much - 1st saw them live in 2007 & when I was walking to the venue I saw them walking down the street with their luggage going to a pizza parlor a few block away - I immediately knew who they were & joined them & paid for their pizzas - They let me in the show for free & gave me a ton of merch. They are hands down my favorite band that no one knows about! 💯♥️
I first saw them in Hamden, CT in 2009 - I'd only been a noise rock fan for a few years and I absolutely loved them, so of course I had to see them again at the same venue in 2011. Sadly they apparently haven't played in Connecticut since, but I've seen them in New York in 2016 and 2023. I also saw them at the Oblivion Access Festival in Austin, TX in 2022: as I crossed a street I happened to spot them and I said "it's Melt-Banana!" which got their attention and Yasuko flashed a friendly peace-sign.
When I first discovered Melt Banana, I didn't know what to think. In some ways, I still don't. However, what I love about Japanese culture is they do what they do regardless if it makes sense to us or anyone else. They do what they do and we have to deal with it. I've only seen MB live once, but it was amazing and it's because they just did what they do and let it happen organically. I smiled like a madman and loved the whole thing and I didn't understand a word or note. MB is king.
