I have literally never seen your channel until this video which I just happened upon about an hour away from heading to TSC to purchase a fence stretcher to rerun woven fencing for the first time. Watching this again after a year has passed. Still haven’t finished the fence because the price keeps rising. But I have the corner posts in the ground, concreted in and now doing the cross bracing. I had forgotten some of the tips you provided. Notching the vertical posts for the cross braces is a big one because I can’t hold both ends up to level them. Then I’m drilling a hole through and hammering rebar in to keep them in place. On both sides of the driveway, I‘ve made grapevine trellises out of the 6’ tall fence posts. The Hügelkultur mound is just south of the fence, with a walkway between for planting and harvesting. Stacking functions as you have mentioned in another video. Gate is going up next.
Go ahead and make a clamp on board system. It will save you so much time and make a better install. Thanks for making these videos.
You guys are great! My family (including the little ones) loves the inside look at your homestead and the how-to’s. But probably more than that, we love how your family seems “whole.” We need more of that these days. You guys are quite a blessing altogether.

Well... Billy... that settles it. You’re my new favorite UA-cam permaculturist! You had my attention at “journeyman electrician”, but won me over with that IBEW bug. I should have known with that attention to knots! I also am a JW out of Local 317 in Huntington, WV and a beginner homesteader. As a young adult I walked away from farming, but I’m back. But I just wanted to write and say keep up the good work, brother! You’ve got a die hard follower here!

I have to do this by myself. Wish I knew how to make videos, it oughta be comical. I should be able to do it with a single roll. 3 sides are already in place. Just need to make 2 turns. Along the road in front, along the driveway, insert gate, then connect to the other side. Have 2-3 holes to mend on the sides, too. No way the post holes can be dug by hand due to gravel and clay. The landlord’s tractor can drill those. This video is a tremendous help to keep me from looking like a complete city slicker.

I love this video. I have a tractor but no come along and wondered how I could work it so I could tighten my fence with the tractor. I try not to splice fencing and just to end on a post of corner post but now I may be able to splice! Living alone and not so young anymore I have to figure ways to do things on my own. You have such good ideas and instructions!!!!

I made a fence post stretcher last year so I could do it myself with the help of the truck. But I like this too! Poor Michelle bahahaha! Keep these know how videos coming Billy!

Be sure to put oil on the threads so rust doesn't prevent you from tightening/loosening later. My wheel barrel bolts rusted by the time I had to replace the handles...had to cut them off!

Nice job! I prefer to run a tension wire top and bottom to nip the fence to it. Makes it more stable between the posts and helps prevent animals like goats or pigs from pushing under the wire on the bottom as you can stretch tension wire tighter then the fence wire.
That definitely makes it tougher fence!
Ohh, you notched 'em. that took you in past the Pressure treatment so your wood will rot. You could take 'em apart and apply heavy grease. .

If you don't have a come along you can use a ratcheting tie down.
I was using that very thing before we started taping.

14:00 What is that tool called that you used to wrap the wire around the other?
16:00 are the staples going to be the only thing holding the tension? Won't the wood let go of the staples?
It’s also stapled around the corner of that spot.
@@PermaPasturesFarm21 Why not use that tool to twist the wire around the post then onto itself?
@@TheRainHarvester I never thought of doing that. It seems like a good idea.
@@PermaPasturesFarm21 The trick will be tightening it so that when the wire slips around the post, it will still be tight. The slip might put the "knot" at a point which gives more wire slack, than where originally tensioned.
I hope that makes sense.
