- The Shin Megami Tensei series has some of the most deep gameplay mechanics of any RPG. However while scrolling on UA-cam, I haven't really seen a video that goes over what combat is like for new players. So today, I'm going to use my knowledge of the series to explain just that. I hope you all enjoy!

One tip for the viewers, please DO NOT sleep on physical. Yes, HP loss is scary but those attacks can make some fights utter jokes. I've been recently playing Devil Survivor 2 on the hardest route and Hinako made a joke out of every non phys repel boss with Multi Strike

abyssal mask, critical zealot, murderous glee, critical aura, impaler's glory and phys pleromas for true phys fiends
Must say SMT5V got the move variety going crazy good... even the inherent abilities are balanced and unique to each character...
( i mean... country maker izanagi no okami would be a true menace in SMT5 (especially with critical aura and impaler's glory), but would have stiff competition (masakado, Nahobino, Shiva, Agrat, odin, beelzebub, zeus, just to name a few)
also masakado's recal execution goes HARD

Great video, one thing i would correct is that megaten is trying to stray away from using HP for Phys damage. Ever since SMT 4, all the mainline games have been using MP for both Phys/Gun. Same is true for Soul Hackers 2 as well. Persona however is staying with HP consumption for Phys/Gun attacks. Also now that i mention it, you didn't cover SH2 combat mechanics which are really different from typical Megaten lol.
@@DebeshMishra03 believe me I am aware of the differences between SH2 and everything else (check out my retrospective on it). However it is a Megaten game and shares a lot of the same DNA. Even though there are differences.
Also yup, Atlus are indeed straying away from Phys costing HP. However, P3R also brought it back for the sake of authenticity so I didn’t want to mention it because it seems like they go back and forth on it
@@jaffinator2166 Yeah like I mentioned Persona doesn't seem to be following that HP quirk. It's just everything other than persona lol. Let's see how Metaphor will handle it which idk is even going to be part of megaten or not.

Mana aid in DDS is pretty good since you get a lot of MP back it allows you to spam funny bs Almighty like Death Flies and Revelation which are too expensive to be spammed reliably but with chakra walk as well you get practically infinite MP
I’ve also found it handy for grinding with Trumpeter in Godborn… until I found out about the Matador-Loa Yabusame Shot wombo combo
