What do you think about Rengoku?
Every time I think about his death I just shout out loud KYOJIROOOO
He's the best.
He reminds me of a Buddy of mine that didn't make it back from Afghanistan (I'm an OEF Vet). So Rengoku's speech hit me incredibly hard, but it didn't make me Sad in the way it did others. It made me think of my Buddy, and it almost feels like it's him saying this to me and not Rengoku.
I know it's silly, but it hurts a little less when I watch this scene.

I met Mark Whitten (Eng VA) and i asked if this scene was hard for him to record.. he said it definitely made him incredibly emotional and you can certainly hear it. He said he was sad but had to place himself into his character and instead feel grateful as rengoku does when talking to his mom
I can understand that. Who WOULDN’T be emotional about Rengoku’s fate. Mark’s a pretty awesome dude.

We only got to see Rengoku in the movie, yet he was and still is my favorite character. No matter how many times I listen to his last words or see his death scene, I cry every time
No, the movie was simply a shortened version of a entire arch. We actually see just as much of Rengoku that we do of Uzui

Before this scene, I had never cried for any show. I may have gotten close, but never shed a single tear. So when he was on his last legs, telling the trio to fight on, I started getting teary eyed for the first time. And then when he saw his mom right before he died, he said the one sentence that made me cry hard:
“Mother…Did I do well?”
This was when I realized this show was one of my favorite of all time, for making me cry for the first time for ANY show I have ever watched before. Your flame burns hot in our hearts, Rengoku.
The way he said too,”set your heart ablaze” and “go beyond your limits”, everything he said to the upper three demon reminded me of Might Guy from Naruto when he unleashed the final gate of death too fight Madara. How Rengoku had his heart emanating fire to his extremities was too similar to when Might Guy used his chakra to flow through his channels to unlock the final death gate towards his heart. His final fight and how he was always so charismatically upbeat and positive was also on point with how Might Guy acts as well, so I would feel amiss if I didn’t mention the similarities between Kyojuro Rengoku from Demon Slayer & Might Guy from Naruto. It has to be an homage to Guy because it was too similar to be a coincidence I think.

The thing with characters like him in really good animes, with no room to grow and immediately loved, developed early on, they're almost always going to be killed in the most heartbreaking circumstances as a plot device. Everyone with room for character development will become better for them, which will carry a depth of emotions upon success from joy and freedom, to longing and grief. And after learning that upper rank demons have not changed in over a century, my heart sank the second I saw Akaza. The perfect time to pull on our heartstrings, and the perfect thread with which to weave a net of revenge. Brilliant storytelling.
