  • This is an overview of The Blueprint for Ending Harm, a framework for addressing system violence and oppression.
I originally planned to publish this as a book, but I recently decided I shouldn't sit on information my community might find helpful or encouraging during these critical times. To anyone who watches this, I hope it provides some hope, clarity, and belief in your own ability to make a difference in the world. If you want a written version of this overview, please visit theendofharm.com/blueprint
If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask in the comments!
There are many beautiful and amazing people, books, movies, and shows that have inspired me and contributed to this Blueprint. In future videos, I'll examine each force, opposite, and resilience factor more thoroughly, and I'll share more about the many individuals who've influenced this framework. But until then, I want to give a few people/books a shoutout for their contributions:
When Helping Hurts-a book that helped me understand dignity as a core principle when I was new to humanitarian work.
The Locust Effect-a book that explored the legacy of colonialism in the courts of post-colonial countries and the systems that protect the forces and perpetuate poverty.
All the Shah’s Men-the first book I read on US Cold War foreign policy and how so many efforts to promote “Western Ideals” backfire.
Adrienne Maree Brown-helped me put into words the ways in which we can move into more transformative models of justice and move away from the punitive ones.
Nelson Mandela-helped me understand the necessity for the liberation of both the oppressor and the oppressed.
Cindy Ruakere-taught me about “opposite spirits,” which helped me understand the basics of neturalizing the forces.
Walter Wink-my first thorough intro Christian nonviolence and what the “third way” means, adding to my understanding of neutralizing the forces.
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.-taught me the difference between people who really want to change the world and those who want to feel comfortable, among so many other things.
Malcolm X-helped me understand education as liberation, among so many other things.
bell hooks-helped me understand the importance of a "love ethic."
Decolonizing Wealth-a book that helped me understand the limitations of my imagination in crafting a better future.
Blueprint for Revolution-helped me understand fear as a mechanism and how to face it head-on.
Together-a book that helped me understand the gravity of our current loneliness epidemic.
Again, that’s only to name a few. More to come.

Very well organized and argued. Wishing you all the best with this endeavor and getting this message out, as the world appears to be sliding in the wrong direction.
In addition to focusing on resistance and resilience to forces of harm, I wonder if there is space in this framework for using the incentive structures and economic organization of societies to nip those forces of harm in the bud. This might be as simple as steeply progressive taxation and wealth tax (making it less sexy to accumulate and hoarde wealth and power in ways that cause harm), money out of politics (making it less profitable to pull the strings of state power), strict antitrust (to limit the incentive to massively consolidate power). Basically we need a system of incentives that somehow channels the best of us into positions of power, not the worst (most selfish, greedy, narcisstic, sociopathic, exploitative).

This is amazing. I’ve been trying to figure out the best way to share the combination of philosophy, theory, historical context etc.. that informed my perspective/world view before oct 7th sparked my consciousness to as many people as possible who may not have the time or desire to engage with thousands of hours of content to connect the dots needed to see past the filtered reality. Keep going this is definitely the right direction.

Have you considered reading Carl Jun, Aristotle Plato, etc.? You will then have a better understanding of the self and why there is suffering.
