The TV was on and I watched the episode but also had my back to the TV at times because I was using my desk top computer. (Everyone remember good old dialup? LOL) I had my back to the TV when he began to sing. I stopped what I was typing and literally froze in the chair as he began to sing. I turned towards to TV and as I listened to Josh, I got goosebumps. That was the very first time I ever got goosebumps hearing someone sing...25 years old and it was literally the first time. Pretty sure my mouth was flopped open the entire time he sang. lol. The very next day, I took my lunch break from work at 10:00 a.m. so I could be at the mall when it opened. And when it did, I went to the record store and bought his CD. Not sure why I'm telling you this 11 years after this video was posted lol.

I had tears rolling down my face and knew immediately he was about to become a huge star. That episode was the best way to introduce him to millions of people across the country at once. He is possessed of one of the most beautiful and pure voices of his generation - an absolute pleasure to experience his musical gift and talent.
Josh Groban has always been the most wonderful singer, actor, and all around warm and wonderful young man. Here he was, TOTALLY bound for stardom! So very young here and yet so obviously gifted. Josh is forever. 🥰

My fiance died in 2007 of a drug addiction, she was only 38 years old. She battled the drugs the whole time we were together. I tried to help her yet never judged her. The words to this song touches me to my very soul.

It was captivating, mesmerizing. This was 2001, I think. Immediately thereafter, millions ran to their computers to use whatever search engine at the time to search for "Josh Groban" (including me) -- and we "broke the Internet." Service was slowed for hours afterwards. At work the next day, Josh's performance was all anyone could talk about. I've heard recordings of Josh performing this song. But nothing tops hearing and watching it in the context of this scene. All these years later, it never fails to move you. The scene where the camera pulls back showing Ally alone in the ballroom (in her imagination) -- as though he were singing only to her -- is fantastic cinematography and is how so many people felt watching Josh sing. This scene is a TV legend. Be sure to search out and watch the other "Ally McBeal" episode that Josh appears in later on, where Ally encourages him to sing a song at his mother's funeral. Equally captivating.
