    About Springburn:
Situated to the north of the city, Springburn grew and declined as the railways, and in particular the Cowlairs depot, grew and declined. In its heyday, Springburn employed over 8,000 men in locomotive building and exported to over 60 countries and was Britain's major railway centre. However with the onset of diesel and electric trains, and an inability to move with the times, the first of the builders, the North British Locomotive Co., closed and within 20 years, locomotives were no longer part of the industrial base of Springburn. The last of the works at St Rollox closed in 1988.
Demolition of tenement flats has left Springburn with few areas of housing, with the result that most of the resident population has moved to the high-rise flats of nearby Balornock.
In nearby Sighthill cemetery is a monument to John Baird and Andrew Hardie who were involved in the so-called Radical Rising of 1820.

This is certainly NOT the Burgh I was born in grew up. Schooled and left
Its a completely ghost town to me now. Its as if I've NEVER entered this place in my whole life. Such a pitiful place now, to what it once was. The flyover in Springburn Road does absolutely nothing for the Burgh . The place was once bursting with shops excitement and happiness. Now it looks like a sad place, certainly NOT the little Burgh I was born and raised in all those years ago. All the memories of my birthplace have now disappeared since my dear hometown had changed its welcoming feeling. We all.go back once in a lifetime to.see our place of birth. Well!! its certainly a different place for me.

stuart rusk:- that’s exactly how I remember it, before the shopping centre was built there used to be a bike shop on the corner of wellfield and (the auld)springburn Road. Grew up in barmulloch, but went to the old Albert secondary an spent many a dinner time at santi’s chippy, and the auld springburn cross in Woolworths . I left 30yr ago, an ive only returned a few times since, and aye it’s changed to unrecognisable in places .

Albert Primary :) I went there 1974-79. Now all shops are gone, demolished, where the statue is now. I used to buy my crisps there, 4 1/2p or 5p each. Cameron's I think the shop was called and a there was a Woolworths. They sold toys in Cameron's, a plastic boat for 50p. I went to my Ganny's up on Balgrayhill high flats after school and Grandad would drive me down in his taxi and my mum met me there after work, she worked in Teachers whiskey for 15 years! That's gone as well. Boo HOo HOoo....

Is it true that there's one washing machine to service the whole community and the library just dishes out Johnny bags and unemployment claiming advice ?

@@TheFergie23 I grew up in Springburn (42 Millarbank Street) in the 1950s. It was never the best of times (including the incessant paedophilia and heavy domestic violence et al.).
Nowadays, in my humble opinion, Springburn is even more of a rotting corpse of its previous self ... malevolent undercurrents notwithstanding.
I hope that answers your question, viz.: 'R F What ?'
