I can't stop laughing at, "Oh there's a Tarmogoyf! That's an easy first pick." Pascal is such a legend and I loved seeing him as a guest! (57:40 timestamp for anyone who wants to see it). Also, I guess I'll explain the reference for newer players. Pascal Maynard was in the Top 8 of a Grand Prix and had the choice between a foil Tarmogoyf (worth around $400 at the time) and Burst Lightning (a worthless Common that was strong in Draft and would have made his deck better). He took the Tarmogoyf and it caused an uproar because people thought it was crazy to see someone money drafting in a high level event.
@@Takermania70Should check the prize winning for the GP. The burst lightning would have been *insanely* good for this deck, and ironically made him lose later in the actual games.
@@donb7519 Plus he gave a lot of the money away to charity (if not all of the money.) So it ended up being much better for the world that he took the Goyf overall.
It makes me smile the more I see Wheeler and Serge get to be outside of LRR. North 100 showdown has legitimately become one of my favorite gameplay shows and I really would love the chance to try the format some day. Thank you for showing it off here, Prof.
when the universe came into existence, wheeler was there to thank it for having him. when the last star blinks out of the sky, he will be there to say it's great to be here.
1:16:42 is perfection! Pascal not knowing the card, Ben and Prof leaning in to help, and then both of them realizing at the same time that the card is in English! I love it!
Applying such a point system to Commander is intriguing to me. It will probably open up a lot of variety in cEDH without actually banning anything. In casual, it can be translated into some sort of salt score that can do much to ease the need of a Rule 0 talk.
Omg I just finished the LRR 10 hour canlander 2023 championship yesterday. This video came out at the perfect time! I’m so excited Canadian Highlander is my favorite format.
"and my biggest opponent... Prof on my team," is such a hilarious closing one liner in an episode filled with great one liners. Even funnier with the absolute contrast of Prof gushing about having Pascal on his team! I loved this episode! Thanks for assembling these great guests and and making another excellent video Prof!
it's really unfortunate that these videos don't get as many views as the commander videos. These are my absolute favourite and it's how I usually learn about new formats. This episode was absolutely amazing!
To begin I love Serge, and am so hyped to see him on this channel. Candian Highlander is what brought me back into Magic and its allure is constant. I hope that we see more support of the format from game stores because competitive Canlander is a dream of mine.
I don't watch LRR, but I feel I should start, because I was impressed with Serge's commentary during the first match. Plus, I'm Canadian too, so gotta support the countrymen. 8)
So this is something: Serge reminds me SO MUCH of Tao Nick from the Play On Tabletop youtube channel with how he speaks and his enthusiasm and everything. Absolutely a compliment, both guys seem to love their games to death and are very good as well. Also I guess just shoutout to Play On, that channel is really great for Warhammer 40k content (and other tabletop wargames) for people who are interested!
57:27 Prof: *Looks at the top five cards of his library and casually reveals a Black Lotus* "Is this a land? Or this going on the bottom of my library?" The sass in his voice there had me cracking up 😂

This is perhaps the funniest episode of Shuffle Up and Play I've watched, I'm consistently laughing my *ULAMOG* off. Would love to see this group again!
Great gameplay and banter 😆 wheelers delivery of "that has no abilities" when the baloth came down was perfect. Also the prof's 'oh becuz he delves' was an amazing save
I am team Serge (lol) To be honest, I never understood Canadian Highlander by just looking at it for 30 seconds before, and Prof you did it in a single sentence with "Canadian Commander 1v1 without commanders". Hi from France, have a nice day
Been waiting for this since the second it was announced! The perfect guests for Canadian Highlander, especially since I’ve been on a LRR binge as of late! EDIT: Yay, another misplay episode!
Serge and the Prof both seem to play very similarly in style, like from the heart and emotionally led as opposed to hyper-vigilant. Their game was a fun watch :) edit: all games were a fun watch
Go Team Serge! Like the Professor, I also learned through you and how thoughtfully you explain your turns. Unfortunately I don't beat "my Wheeler" often.
Leatherback Baloth is my all-time favourite magic card and I'm extremely pleased to see it in this video. Black Lotus into Baloth absolutely makes me want to play Canlander
LOVE the video! Serge and Wheeler are two great canadian boys (as is our Kebecois friend), and bringing attention to such a great format with your channel is highly appreciated! Great episode thankls so much!
