My SB200 is an old friend, tough as a brick outhouse, solid, reliable. Compared to a new-fangled, bells and whistles amp? So you have to spend a few seconds tuning it up, I can live with that. Actually that's a part of operating I enjoy. We hams are supposed to tweak and twiddle. Nice upgrade.
I picked up a dirty and dead SB201. Added the Harbach power supply board, and the low voltage keying board from Harbach. I also installed a meter protection circuit as recommended by many. Fine amp, and hard to beat for the price! Provides 400 watts out with about 45 to 50 Watts of drive.
I have 2 of them. 200 and 201. 1 is routh shape but works. noisy fan. rebuilding the outher one sb200. I found most parts on eBay. I need to re paint case. trying to match heath kit green. They still make 572/B tubes. I put them in my collins 30L1 instead of 811A. There is a 12V mobile version of this amp the HA 14.I have it with both AC/DC power supplies. Ineed HV caps for the AC. one project at a time. I hope to have SB200 working in the next few months. Thank you for video. I am fixing the very same amp.
Where would I find the solid wire used for the RF chokes to the tubes" I have one that broke off at the end of the resistor and need to either replace the entire item or I would prefer to repair the existing resistor wire. Please advise.
An excellent video with some superb detail. I have just aquired a SB-200 from a Silent Key sale and hopefully will bring it into service with my IC-756Pro, once I've done a full inspection of the internals, I only picked it up last night. Regards Nidge (G0NIG) IO93dv
Question I am going to replace the 572 tubes. Do I just plug them in or do I need to neutralize them or tune them somehow? If so, what do I need to do? Thanks
The fan sounds Very Loud? Lots of Quiet options available Today but you didn’t use one of them? The SB-200 is an OK mid power amplifier just like the FL-2100 but they were under built if you use the parts that HeathKit supplied for the kit.The SB-220 is and was a much better choice and far more reliable as well.👍🎙
This video is ~ 12 years old. I moved on to a solid state amp a number of years ago. It is really quiet. Plus puts out 3X the power. Kept the SB200 in the antiquities collection on display.
@@RGsedona I have never heard a 7300 sound bad but I can’t make myself trust a touch screen radio. We actually have one in the box from a friend’s Estate that I purchased my 7700 from. He only used the 7300 at 75 watts on 50.313 on FT8. Also I here wonderful things about that Amplifier and I believe they are built here in Florida? Lots of demand from what I here and a waiting list. de W4KVW 👍🎙
@@1OFGODSOWN In the beginning he only offered kits. I did a build video on it. Now he only offers factory built. The amp works great. I know what you mean about touch screens but I have adapted....for now.....ua-cam.com/video/zI4qMCKebgg/v-deo.html

Problem is that so many do it On the Air and not into a Dummy Load.

Tuning these are way too confusing. I've never found a simple, strait procedure to tune these into a dummy then into an antenna...
@@solarflare8905🤣😂 It only has a Tune and Load knob and tunes like most manual tune amplifiers? Very Simple! You must have been over thinking it? 👍🎙
Very Nice Job, thanks

@@RGsedona I have been using a No Tune Solid State Amplifier for 10 years so far and I love how it follows the ICOM 7700 without touching it.👍🎙
@@1OFGODSOWN The 7700 is quite the unit. Love it. I am using an early KM3KM Mercury 3S with my Icom 7300.

Nice meter, my Eagle 515 does 1400W with 20W in, 120VAC.
I'd like to see a SB220 with the LP100A
iVE GOT ONE OF THESE AMPLIFIERS COMING (WHAT PARTS DID YOU HAVE TO REPLACE) OR WOULD YOU RECOMEND???
Sorry for the late reply. All electrolytics. Band switch if it is toast. Relay if required. Anything else that is toasted. Tubes if Pout is low.
Congratulations!
Wonderful video.
