You should have had breakfast at La Mallorca. They have great coffee and you can't beat their breakfast. You could have also gotten coffee at La Plaza de Armas just a short walk from El Hotel Convento. The kiosk there have amazing coffee. El Convento is one of my favorite places to stay in Puerto Rico and my favorite place to stay and hang out in Old San Juan.

It's a convent and retirement home for the Servants of Mary religious order. La Fortaleza, which is the governor's official executive mansion, lies immediately behind that, and can be partially seen over your right shoulder.
