  • The spiritual way brought by G. I. Gurdjieff has been recognised as one of the most original, enduring, and penetrating teachings of our time. While he used varied forms of transmission - such as group meetings, meditation, dance and music - Gurdjieff gave special importance to the publication of Beelzebub's Tales to His Grandson.
This allegory, majestic in argument and scale, ranges in scope from the genesis of the cosmos and the unfolding of life at all levels, through the history of mankind, to vividly detailed portraits that convey Gurdjieff's vision of human purpose in the vast cosmological scheme. It presents an incisive critique of the violence and misdirection in human culture, though it is always tempered by the authors compassionate humour and emphasis on the potential for evolution.
In this book, Gurdjieff speaks a patterned language, unlike that of any other writer, to dismay automatic thinking.

Very funny comment on quality not quantity of suffering by Graham :)
Would you not say intensity ?
If your parents die would you describe your suffering as quality ? Or rather experience it as intense ?
Constant is a word that might relate to both regardless.

I would say his comment regarding to quality would be related to conscious suffering compared to unconscious.

@@bookclub5291 hi. It was regarding the fragment of moon feeding process. Where Gurdjieff is writing about amount of suffering that have to be constant. Regardless if it's from intentional or unintentional. If there is not enough of unintentional ( or intentional) suffering the building up of hunger and the nature of man on this planet makes war as a constant food to the moon. Whole amount of suffering have to be constant and both intentional or unintentional . Making it intentional we might go outside the certain regulations that upply to automatons. But the quantity of all as a moon feeding sacrifice include any kind of suffering. Burning people and starving them to death in concentration camp might be some concentration of avoiding overall quantity of suffering durring lifetime or lifetimes.

As its almost impossible to place ourselves hard enough through intentional suffering to make the the process of unintentional suffering reverse. But we can try.
It helps understanding of 7 hermetic principles. It is going along with Gurdjieff teaching.

Suffering is food for the moon. At certain times its hunger intensifys and it requires better quality food. A quality of food only 3 brained beings can produce.
