Thank you very much for sharing this information. I know it took you a whole lot of time to do all the research. I look forward to your report on filters for ditch water. In a catastrophic situation, we’ll be as concerned about filtering out germs and parasites as filtering out nasty chemicals.

So glad your video on the berkey popped up on my You Tube. You also mention ditch or pond water, For emergencies, I have made sure my family and I have the Life Straw or Sawyer brand water filters. I sure hope these are legit on their claims in case crap ever hits the fan. Scary to think these water filter companies can legally get away with printing lies. Thanks for sharing your work with us!

What a treasure you are . It's great to have someone who is so interested and passionate to go as far as you have to help us better understand one of earths most precious gifts, the water our bodies need. Getting to the point of knowing just how clean our water source is extremely important and integrity is absolutely vital. Exposing Berkey is critical in order to stop them and the only way to do that is to expose them for who they are. I look forward to the day Berkey files for bankruptcy.

For rocks, low flying birds, and microbes and other pathogens get a backcountry filter. Katadyn, MSR, Sawyer, and Platypus have a long history in the lab and the field. They're not going to take out the chemicals (and may need chlorine or UV backup in some areas because those filters can only take out so much) but they're going to make your water safe from infection. Most, if not all, their filter elements can be used in a gravity feed system as well.

Thank you for sharing your research! I was contemplating buying a Berkey when your video popped up in my feed. I'm having a really hard time finding a filter that fits our needs, any advice you may have would be greatly appreciated!! We live totally off-grid near the top of a mountain in the forest, the only thing for miles around us is uninhabited wilderness, no other houses, no infrastructure, and the nearest town is 10 miles away below us...so chemicals/pesticides/industrial runoff/etc are of no concern to us. Our water comes from a natural spring at the top of the mountain that runs into our creek. We have Culligan filters under the house for sand/silt/debris, but we need something else for drinking water, either countertop or under sink. Our huge concerns are giardia/bacteria/parasites. There are beavers in the creek, and all the forest critters wade in and drink from our weir...occasionally, the bears bathe in it...there's always the chance of animal feces or a dead animal in the creek above us, so I'd say we're definitely in the category of "ditch" water. We've been stuck buying bottled watered until we can find a solution...I HATE buying water! Do you know of a proven filter system that would work for our situation? TIA!!

sounds like a good filter. I would still test TDS after even one week, though - learned the hard way (pun intended).
when i was desperate 3 years ago, i would re-pour higher TDS filtered water back into the pitcher and each time the TDS would halve; i think i did this for 50+ gallons (a LOT of work!).
just bought a 4-pack of ZW filters and they now have a scale of TDS per how many gallons per filter : 0-250 ppm = 40 gallons.
the interesting part : 0-1 ppm (i.e. what you might get after distillation) : "N/A" ! I think in math that means "infinite"!

I'm glad you changed your mind. Carbon is really great at a few things, improving the look of water, improving the taste of water and improving the smell. And it can remove some things from water. But removing micro-organisms, heavy metals and bacteria from water is not among the things it does well. And in fact studies have shown that if you're not very careful and clean your filters constantly. your activated carbon can become the perfect surface for pathogens to populate on.

Thank you for this video series. I am a long time Berkey user but this year switched to distilled to get the flouride out of city water. As for getting rid of bacteria in ditch water, Sodium Chlorite (NaCLO2) 22% solution and Hydro Chloric Acid (HCI) 5% does the trick, 3 drops of each in a gallon of water kills everything in 10 minutes.

You want a good filter then do this:
    1. Get the actual lab report from the company you are looking at buying from. If they don't have one or wont give it to you then don't buy the filter.
    2. Contact the lab and ask if they actually did the test. I have seen fake reports and still have emails from at least one lab that stated the reports had been faked. (Berkey)
    3. Have someone from the lab explain which chemicals the filters were tested for. It's in the report but sometimes had to read.
    4. The lab report should be several pages long. If it's just one page then don't buy the filter.
    5. Understand what you are wanting to filter out. Some filters, if not cleaned properly will actually 'allow live bacteria to grow inside them'.
    6. Understand that there is massive differences between filtering water from your faucet or well, vs filtering for a shtf, pond, or lake.

If you do future uploads, can you please try to make your sound/audio ‘volume’ levels, louder. because, for me, I watch tons of youtube, and I can hear almost everyone, except on rare occasions, and for some reason, your volume, even when I turn ‘up’ as loud as possible on my end, I can barely hear you. So if you can record a cpl/few notches louder, that’d be great. We can alway turn ‘quieter’ on our end, If is too, loud. I think you may be talking quiet, so as not to disturb hose around you, or perhaps you’re just a “softer, quieter” speaker, idk. But, I wouldn’t ask, but I’m struggling to be able to hear. Thanks for all. Always! 🙏☮️☝️🌎☀️🕊🌎💫 - I Posted this again..just in case you didn’t have time to read other comments, from previous video.

I’m also one that when I do something, I need to feel I’ve covered all bases, take no short cuts, and need to feel I’ve ‘done my work’, with a fine tooth comb. So, I completely understand the blessing and the curse of being type of person who needs to do a thorough and complete job, otherwise, what’s the point. So, once again, you are much appreciated for all your precious time and diligence, thank you, sincerely. ..and Blessings on the soon arrival of your baby. • @marzsit9833

none. no filter will remove dissolved chemicals. activated charcoal/carbon is not a filter, it is an absorber and will absorb fluoride and chlorine but only to the point where the charcoal/carbon has absorbed as much as it can, from that unknown point onward the water is questionable. there is no inexpensive solution to purifying contaminated water, there are only 2 choices: distillation or reverse osmosis. both are expensive, that's just the way it is. deal with it.

glad you figure out that carbon filters are horrible for ponds, you have to use a sawyer or something when it comes to that kind of thing. I mean another thing those are good for IS removing the microplastics from water. A distiller would also work well for pond water of coarse as the heat would kill anything living. Also there is importance to STRUCTURE and well as mineral content. THE CONTAINER, temperature, darkness (as well as perhaps specific EMF phenomena) are supposed to be THE ULTIMATE way to preserve/store such structured water. So again all of those magnetic sellers, with magnetic stirrers and stuff like that LIE just as much as the berkley people seem to. This has been known since ancient times, and I believe it's an intuitive LUCID dreaming kind of deal with that...after all without our tech they would of had to rely on other methods to figure this stuff out...in fact we seem to do a bit worse in some of these areas compared to the ancients and their more rudimentary/foundational methods.

    University of North Carolina
    Duke
    University of Michigan
ALL have done tests on countertop water filters
Being tested to NSF standards does NOT mean it filters out all chemicals, or even most.
The NSF standard is a test protocol. But the filter has to be tested for every chemical you want tested for. Because my wife works for a certified lab, just know these tests are thousands of dollars EACH. So no individual person is having their water or their filters tested for everything.
