    I'd like to know how successful he is fishing, in general. It seems like he is pushing for some sort of perfection in appearance, weight, size of the guides....what!? Some people like heavier rods, bigger guides, or different materials on the grip. I agree with some of you guys, ugly stick is a very nice rod model.

    • @PhilosophyDaily
      @PhilosophyDaily  2 роки тому +4

      Large guides aren’t bad if you’re strictly power fishing, but overall, small guides are more ideal. The difference in catching or not catching can be simply in the accuracy of a cast. This holds true at any body of water, but at ponds, being able to control your cast makes all the difference. I need to be able to tread my lure into a small spot. Sometimes that’s under an overhang, through two reeds, around an obstruction, and so on. The small guides provide that extra piece of accuracy and control that I need to accomplish just that. Now, I get it; I seem extremely nit-picky about a simple pole, but it really does make all the difference. Thanks for watching.

      Ugly stik doesn't make a GREAT rod but they make a good product at a fair price. For some rods, you can't beat it. Honestly I switched over to ugly stick back when they came out with the original bendy boy.
      Now ive been fishing commercially and running charters (bass, inshore and offshore) for over 6 years and seen a ton of people miss fish because ugly stiks arent very sensitive. And out of over 50 rods, I only have 2 ugly sticks left and they're the tiger lite series for saltwater with Penn 7500ss on them for dolphin when they come up behind the boat.
      As far as duckett rods, they can be great...if you take care of them. They can break if they get chips in the coating (as any rod will) and are super sensitive. The microguide series sucks and guides pop all the time. The blank itself is great.

The most recent one was even lost by USPS on the way in, and they sent me the replacement rod anyways. They didn't even ask me for the money to pay return shipping, since that was in the lost package. I will say that the rods need a more durable tip. I've noticed grooves quickly developing in the tip of my silverado rods(I have 2 I got on sale for 27$ each). But yeah, Missy at Duckett warranty is an angel. They have incredible service.

    Just used my GX2 setup for the first time today. In my opinion, it's a great rod, and was dead accurate. What I'm surprised about is the fact that they were charging $40 for just the rod. Wal-Mart sells the rod and reel for $17 and some change. Line isn't included, but that wasn't a problem as I could throw on my preferred 20 lb test braided line. Pulled in a few large small mouth before moving onto bait and catching a few large channel cats. Seems to hold up pretty well under stress, and I was quite comfortable casting lures all day. To each their own though.

    As a teenage bass fisher let’s get some things straight.
    1. He’s freaking holding 40 dollar rods that are meant for beginner fisherman(except the ducketts)
    2. Duckett rods are more prone to breaking but I’m willing to sacrifice that for more sensitivity, the lighter weight, and overall better casting distance. Plus you can send them back in the first year of warranty for 25 bucks and they’ll replace it.
    3. Ugly sticks are amazing catfish rods and they might be heavier compared to most bass rods but they can stand up to some monster fish.
    4. Back to the ducketts, the ducketts will also break if your using a heavier lure rating or if your overall just careless with the rod.
    5. Your getting all this advice based on some random person’s opinion so I would suggest you try out some of these rods yourself and then decide if you like it or not

    I've got robs from 400 to 20 and the lightning rod is one of my favorites, Bionic Blades from bass pro are a go to for me also. One is 40 the other is 80, the medium action rods have great feel and the rubberized cork on the Berkeley maintains good grip when it's wet and cold. I feel like you haven't fished before in actual real world conditions, my expensive rods 150+ are boat babies, when I'm on my kayak or hiking through woods to a fishing spot I useI use less expensive rods. Ugly Sticks are bar none one of the most popular and successful rods used for bank fishing carp and catfish. Everything has its place, your opinions are un nuanced.

    The reel seat on the Berkley Lightening Rod is the Alien Seaguide XCSS double nut. It does allow a lot of contact to the blank and it's more ridgid than a split reel seat. The cork is nothing more than a veneer. Mine started to come off soon after I bought it. There's EBA underneath the cork. I simply took it completely off and put the Winn grip wrap in its place, and it works like a charm. The guides are known as as conventional guides. You surely don't want to use micro guides in extreme cold weather when ice forms up on the guides. It is a lower budget priced rod. Though I have more expensive rods, I use this rod more often than the others. Also, the static deflection ( rod builder term) is good for a cheaper priced rod too. I personally would recommend it to a person first starting out fishing.

      Berkley and Shakespeare make rods that are great for certain types of fishing. Like live bait fishing. As far As duckett rods yes they're trash considering their price. They'd be good rods for $40 or $50 but that's it. And about twenty years ago I had a Berkley lighting rod that I caught hundreds of hybrid stripers in the 10 to 20lb range and it held up fine. More than I can say for most other rods that have been put through fishing that hard. If you want the lightest most sensitive rod yes you have to pay up because those qualities aren't cheap. But for general fishing or techniques with moving baits there's many great $50 rods. Like the Abu Garcia vengeance rods. I have a 7'6" heavy that I use for huge swimbaits, a rigs and musky or stripers. I have it paired with an Abu Garcia toro beast. Can't skimp on reels. No such thing as a good $50 reel. But rods are different.
