When we first learn to play bridge we are taught that 12 points is enough to open. But you do not have to open the bidding and sometimes it is better to pass.

Here in Germany we play with 5-card majors, so I have to remember to to remember....

In NZ it seems by far most clubs play Acol with 4 card majors..however. sometimes players blend in Standard American with 5 cards and a diff 1NT opening count.
